Tallywackers

This was hands down the most disappointing dining experience I’ve had in recent memory.
My volleyball team and I were in town for a big tournament. I had heard about this venue via the media buzz a while back and thought it would be a great way to celebrate all being in town together. I made a reservation for 8pm on a Friday easily enough via SeatMe, and then was charged a $ 10 «table set-​up fee» … okay, fair enough (I guess?) for a party of 9.
We arrived at around 7:55, and I was informed our table wouldn’t be ready for 15 minutes but that we should get a drink at the bar. Very disappointing given how starving we were and there was no offer for a round of drinks on the house for having to wait. My first three drink orders (common beers they had listed in their menu) were met with «Sorry, out of that» replies. Hm, I guess that happens.
Fast forward to 8:35 when we were finally seated, and not only was no sincere apology given for the delay, despite the table set-​up fee and our confirmed reservation, but I was not refunded the fee and the host/​manager was snarky when we expressed our dissatisfaction. We were seated to no silverware, which came after we asked about it, nor were there plates for our appetizers. Our server was the only waiter not shirtless — which is supposedly part of the «experience» you come here for — but was nice enough, if a bit slow service-​wise. But there was no engagement with our table as far as creating a fun atmosphere, which again, is apparently all that this venue supposedly has going for it.
The food itself was laughable — we all ordered a variety of sandwiches/​burgers/​entrees and each dish was it’s own particular brand of mediocre-​to-​awful. I have had Lean Cuisines with more flavor and freshness than our meals. But of course, the reviews on here make it clear that the food is not what you come here for… but the experience sucked as well, so what does this place have to offer?
If I were to do it again, I would find an attractive guy off the street and pay him to serve me Taco Bell shirtless and I guarantee it would be a better experience than Tallywackers.

First experience ordering from here. Ordered the fried chicken salad which was supposed to have tomatoes, cheese, cucumbers, onions, etc. and honey mustard. What arrived was a slab of chicken, some greens, and ranch– not to mention I had to pay 3 $ extra to get chicken on it– should have been called the lettuce salad. My fiancé ordered the spinach and chicken — taste was okay, but again had to pay 3 $ extra for the chicken which did not actually end up on the pasta when we got it. We paid over 40 $ for some lettuce and noodles. Will definitely not be ordering from here ever again.

Service was impeccable. Food could have been better. One thing don’t put gravy on a steak ask first. But we were nuts for the tallywackers. Eye candies galore and the bar is beautiful. Friday nights it’s lots of fun.

I think this is a really cool concept but everyone needs to be let go and this place needs a re-​do. Your experience starts when you walk in the door and the host was definitely not the first face you want to see when your being seated. Our service was awkward and terrible all at the same time. I ordered the s&m burger and it came out with lettuce and tomato instead of mushrooms. The table next to us had 4 plates returned… Just a terrible experience from top to bottom… The owner should really get involved and help this place out!

I’m WOW by them. And not just bcz of the nuts… lol. My waitress was very meticulous. The staff was very friendly and all help each other out. The food was what got me. I can’t believe the food was good. I was prepared to be disappointed. But they made me proud. Good food, food service, and a good time. The drag queen show was hilarious. We just happen be there same night as Wicked cast members.

I am only giving this one star because you have to. My friends and I decided to try this place out for lunch during the work week. We arrived and were seated right away, and given menus. That was the last interaction with anyone from the restaurant. We waited 15 minutes and never had our drink or food order taken. We finally got up and left. They were not busy. There was only one other table and they had already been served. There were 3 staff members, including the bartender who walked by. No one offered any service. I will definitely never come back to this place and will be sure to tell everyone who recommends eating here my experience. Still thinking about today has me at a loss. I’m not sure how you can be so oblivious to the only table in the place.

Only go for the drinks and ambience… fun place for a girl’s night out or bachelorette party!!! Everyone was nice!

Don’t waste your time making a reservation. I made a reservation for a bachelorette party when we got there they told us it would still be an 1.5 wait even though we had a reservation. Spoke to the manager and he didn’t seem to care and just said we would have to wait. I can’t speak for the food, but the bartenders seemed overwhelmed and were rude when we tried to order a drink. Decide to leave and we went to whataburger instead, got superior service at whataburger and they give you a free meal of its your birthday or some sort of special event. So don’t waste your time with tallywackers you will get better service at a fast food joint.

You definitely aren’t, or shouldn’t, be coming to Tallywackers for their food, but rather the experience. My coworkers and I came on a Tuesday night, which happened to be a Drag night! I forgot the drag queens name, but she was AMAZING– a comedienne, singer, and all around diva. The only reason we left is because we actually wanted a decent meal, although we enjoyed the appetizers we got for what they were worth (greasy pub style food). Tallywackers was only half full when we got there so we were seated right away. We tried:
–Fried Pickles (w/​Sweet Dill Sauce, $ 6.99), Mini Corn Dogs (Served w/​Yellow Mustard, Tomato Aioli, $ 6.99), Sweet Potato Fries ($ 7.99) [
: The sweet potato fries were the best, then the mini corn dogs, then fried pickles. The sweet potato fries had good flavor and weren’t super greasy, and the corn dog had a good batter to dog ratio. The fried pickles were just ok, but I’m not a huge fried pickles fan to start off with. I would get the sweet potato fries and mini corn dogs again, but not the fried pickles.
Our server was really buff, but also really nice and attentive. The drinks here are ok, but they could definitely use improvements on the cocktails (haha!) and the food. I just got a beer so no complaints from me. I’m glad they don’t force you to do Valet during the weekdays, since it’s a waste of money– the lot is right in front of the entrance! I would consider coming back just for drinks (especially if there is a Drag show), but hope they work on improving their food. This is a really fun concept, and it’s about time!

As others have mentioned, this is a good concept in theory, a bit of a «turnabout is fair play» twist on Hooters, or as one of my dining partners put it, a «testosteraunt». Unfortunately, the execution leaves a lot to be desired.
Since I focus on the food in my reviews, let’s talk about that first. We ordered an appetizer of fried Brussels sprouts along with the requisite chips and queso. The former were sliced, battered and fried and served with Ranch dressing. They were actually quite pleasant, some of the best food at our table. The chips were crispy and darker brown than the norm, a nice touch, but the queso was fairly standard fare.
Moving on to the main courses, I shared two with a fellow diner. An order of wings split between two flavors (peanut butter mango and soy honey with cilantro) yielded decent chicken, but not much flavor. Neither really had a good flavor «punch». The mac and cheese dog fared a little better, featuring a foot long wiener (snicker) with mac and cheese, chili and bacon (although the chili and bacon were in very short supply). We added some serrano peppers for extra heat. This dish was OK; the wiener was fairly standard food service grade, not overwhelming in flavor (possibly boiled a bit too long), and the mac and cheese was average.
Of course, a word must be said about the «scenery». Yes, there were «hunky» guys serving up the food and drinks (and ours did a pretty good job); if they were hairy chested, tank tops were required, but if you prefer smooth, topless was the word. All of them wore pretty skimpy and tight shorts. Myself, I got more enjoyment from watching all of the «tourist ladies» (as someone on Facebook put it), but most women and some men would probably enjoy the servers as well.
Bottom line: this place has promise, but some work needs to be done.

Unfortunately Tallywhackers is way overrated. Stopped by here Thursday for a bachelorette weekend and considering all the hype I’ve heard surrounding this place, our visit was a let down. I read the reviews before I visited.
The ‘valet’ is pointless even though it’s only $ 5. It’s stupid for them to have ‘valet’. Their parking lot is a hop, skip, and a jump big! We actually forgot we paid for valet and started walking to our car that was only 10ft in front of us! Then we remembered, walked an additional 10ft back to the door. They weren’t even there when we walked out which is why we forgot. He walked the 10ft distance to our car, and reversed 5ft, making it a whopping 25ft of us walking in their parking lot. When all we could’ve done was just walk right up to the car and start it and left! But no, it has to be more complicated than that!
At the time we arrived there was no entertainment, 30 minutes before our departure karaōke started. We sand 2 songs then dipped. So the only factor I can go by is the food. Our waiter was nice, he had his shirt on though. I asked, «Why do you have your shirt on?» He says, «I have love handles.» Haha. Oh, ok. The ladies room had no soap so I had to ask our waiter if he could bring some, and they brought the pump you buy at Walmart for 98 cents with the fish on it. Hahahaha. Somewhat tacky, but at least I had soap.
PEOPLE no matter what stay true to the reviews they are not lying! We were supposed to stop by the Galleria before going to Tallywhackers because most IF NOT ALL the reviews state the food is bland and tasteless; IT IS TRUE! I was the ONLY one out of 6 of us who read the reviews so when we stopped at the mall I was going to eat there. WELLLL, we didn’t have time to make that mall stop; so I ate at Tallywhackers. I was hoping and praying to God that the 189 reviews that stated the food was bland and overly priced were lying, but no, no they were not! I have NEVER eaten food that had no taste whatsoever! You can’t even call it gross because it taste like nothing! The fries were cold and had some type of bread crumbs on them– whoever is doing that needs to stop immediately! Gordon Ramsey needs to take a visit to that place!
I would call first to see what type of entertainment they’re hosting around the time you want to visit. I would also eat before coming.

What a FUN concept for a restaurant, right? Before Tallywackers opened, there was a hell of a lot of buzz about the place. My husband and I checked out the restaurant’s opening day, and although there was some TERRIBLE food, we cut them some slack for being brand new. When we went back a couple months later, it was only worse.
Not only does the food and beverage service take a bit too long, but the food is hardly edible. My flatbread pizza had oddly been pulled apart before being plated, and was tossed in a messy pile on the plate. Still, it somehow tasted worse than it looked. The salad was plain and small, but I can’t say there was anything tragic to note. Cocktails seemed to lack alcohol, though the price said otherwise.
Unfortunately, the owner of the restaurant had a great idea, but lacked follow through. The environment screams «We bought a used space!», and you can immediately feel that nothing comes together. Not only does the place feel like an old sushi house, with nothing designed to fit the current tenant, but the tacky/​tiny stage in the corner is out of place, poorly built, and leaves the impression that you’re sitting on the stage of a cheap community theatre. This is likely the only change from whomever previously filled the space, but that’s really just a guess. Instead of creating a strong brand image, the Tallywakers Big Wigs have ordered all street signage in the style of «Hey, this is the cheapest option!», and they’ve chosen to become an eyesore rather than an attraction. Attention to detail is not their strength. A little work could make a large impact, but they don’t seem to understand their faults.
The servers are mostly friendly, and they’re appropriately hired for their good looks and gym bodies. Occasionally, they’ll head over to the «stage» to take their shirts off and uncomfortably pose for a photo of two. This isn’t their fault, but somehow it just falls flat. There’s also a bit of an identity crisis, as the target audience is single women or gay men (they’re located a stone’s throw away from the Dallas Gayborhood).
The below-​average experience starts and ends in the parking lot, where you’re forced to valet in their tiny lot. The lot doesn’t have enough spaces to accommodate a full house, but even if the night is slow, you’ll have to turn over your keys for someone to relocate your car 10 feet. Make sure to have cash for a tip, or better yet, stay home.

First time here and it was great! Loved the décor and ambience. Our server Derrick was awesome (and pretty hot)! He was funny, informative and very attentive. I got the macaroni dog per Derrick’s recommendation. It was juicy, cheesy, and absolutely delicious! Didn’t know hot dogs could come that long (hehe). I wasn’t a fan of the fries so I’d probably get a different side next time. I came on a Wednesday night so can’t speak of how service/​food quality is during peak times, but I look forward to coming back for more yummy food and eye candy ;)

We were instantly seated when we walked in by Derrick. Let me just say that say that the atmosphere was not what I expected. The décor was very nice and the music playing in the background was a nice touch. Derrick ended up being our waiter and he did a phenomenal job!!! I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries… yum!!! I highly recommend it, you won’t be disappointed.

This was a surprise — I was expecting mediocre service and lousy food but I experienced the opposite.
Granted, the food menu is not very well-​inspired as its mostly burgers and hot dogs, with some few exceptions. And in our large table, this is what we discovered:
+ Mac and cheese dog is much better than the off-​tasting chili dog
+ Burgers are good but not great (buns could be better), but the Chicken BLT is a better choice, but at least the seasoned fries are good as they’re not greasy at all
+ The Dr. Pepper short ribs was nice and more «gourmet» of the options, and even noticeably so with better plating. This comes with cheese grits. I had asked out waiter for his recommendations and this was his favorite. And after tasting it, I could see why. It was brought out lukewarm but I enjoyed it even though I normally don’t like braised short ribs.
But I do foresee some problems:
— the pricing is a bit high so this is where the «entertainment» and service needs to make up for it (and luckily for us, our waiter Kimo who works during the day on Saturday was more than awesome!)
— there’s a noticeable lack of vegetarian options
— other waiters in the room did not seem to be as engaging as Kimo did, so the experience can be quite uneven. We saw other workers come in at the start of the night shift and can see the difference in personalities. Had I had worse service or entertainment than Kimo, I probably would give this place less star (s).
So what I would suggest is to just follow the Unilocal suggestions and find out the schedule of great employees such as Kimo to visit when they are working there to maximize a good experience at Tallywackers.
A note about the ambience — I was surprised that it has more of a strip club feel than a sports bar feel. But it was still elegant enough with large booths and tablecloth dining tables. And as for the workers, there were three waiters and they all stayed shirtless and were good-​looking throughout our time there.
And of the drinks, they do have a special cocktail menu although it’s unfortunately just all vodka-​based cocktails. Kind of stereotypical of the gay bars and leaves me wanting for more. There’s also margaritas, and no mojitos.

I had stopped by here on a Sunday after already having a late lunch at Gloria’s. We sat at the bar and ordered calamari and a Margarita flat bread. Both were well executed. The best part was the service. Alex, our bartender, was excellent. These guys are real attentive and all about showing you a good time. I would definitely come back during lunch just for food and the fabulous service.

Pros: what is with these bad reviews? The food was good. Got the fried Brussels sprouts. My sister doesn’t even like Brussels sprouts, but she liked the way these tempura catered ones were prepared. Fried calamari tossed with salt, pepper, and mango on a bed of arugula. Teri and I got the omelette. My sisters shared a monster hot dog. We all had mango or passion fruit mimosas. Great attentive service.
Cons: we arrived right when they opened so we didn’t have to deal with valet. However, I can see where parking would be a huge hassle.

Get there at 12a and told only the after hours appetizers…4 options. Saw a waiter take a full menu to someone and a table had food… couldn’t be hours old.
Then sit there for a bit and no one came to say hello, can I get you a drink nothing.
Yes hot guys but Service? IDK sit at the bar?
Bummer, really wanted it to be a great time… Would not recommend

If all you are interested in is eye candy and nothing else, then this is the place for you!
I know what you’re thinking: why did I even bother going. I promise you, my friend, whose birthday we were celebrating, thought it would be a hilarious thing to look back on.
The food was very mediocre. Nothing great, and by no means, was I expecting a 5-​Star meal. I just thought for the hype of the place, their menu would actually taste decent. Ehhh. You’re better off drinking your dinner lol.
Our service was S-​L-​O-​W! Granted it was a Friday night, and I know we went while there was the typical weekend crowd, but I was not pleased. Our waiter took forever to grab ketchup for our table, my girlfriends practically inhaled all of their French fries. We asked another server (the bearded one lol) and he got it for them in less than 2 minutes. Ridiculous!
It’s true, these servers have absolutely no problem taking off their shirts for a photo-​op. But when that’s all said and done, there’s food that’s only okay with slow service to top that.
Glad I went and saw it for myself!

One of my girlfriends wanted to try out the new restaurant with hunky hotties in tiny tight shorty shorts that was causing a stir in the national news. Having just moved to Dallas from exceptionally liberal Seattle, my expectations were in a completely different playing field than my cohorts. Surprise Dallas, you’ve got some gays and many of them can be found at Tallywackers, working the tables and working the room. Did we really expect a Hooters style restaurant geared toward the ladies? If so, sorry for the disappointment. Scantily clad boys in tiny ill fitting shorts who tear off their shirts at the slighted provocation while serving mediocre bar food. Sorry sweetheart, the ladies are not the target audience.
During our visit, the majority of the tables were parties comprised of all men or all women, all celebrating GNO. The guest ratio of men to women was about 50%. The visible staff at the time of our visit was 100% men, mostly gay and most appeared to be inexperienced waiters. The service wasn’t terrible, they were trying, in between shirtless photo ops. Many shirtless photo ops.
The food was ok, but not a reason to make Tallywackers a destination restaurant. You go to Tallywackers because you are in a wedding party and the comedy club scene is played out, and taking photos with almost naked hot gay boys seems like a fabulous fun night out. You go Tallywackers because you live in the gayborhood and want to eat up some eye candy along with your unexceptional burger. Go ahead, say the food is great, maybe your mother will believe you.
