Puckett Shell

I started to hear a loud thumping noise as I drove and stopped by Puckett Shell to get my car looked at. I had come to this place many times in the past and was always happy with the quick and affordable service. This one day I stopped I noticed that the guys who normally worked on my car were quiet and were sitting frozen almost as if they were afraid. There was another man there who must have been either the general manager or the owner. He immediately came up to me and told me he would «take care of it». He was a bit pushy and I didn’t get a good feeling from him but I said ok.
He took my car in and lifted it. After about 30 minutes he came out with a sheet of paper he had scribbled numbers on. He told me I needed $ 400.00 worth of work on my wheel bearings and that my car wasn’t safe to drive. He also had prices for lug nuts he said I needed and they he wanted about $ 9.00 a piece for these. Not knowing anything about cars, I asked him if these prices were comparable to the prices I would get if I bought the parts. Auto Zone was right down the road. He told me yes.
He was speaking so fast and running through the numbers so fast, I felt something wasn’t right. I told him «Sir, let me step to the side and call my husband». I excused myself from him momentarily and started to call other shops and each one told me what he had said and the price he had given for the problem I described didn’t sound right. So I told him I would have to come back. He then looked at me and said «ma’am, you are endangering your life by driving this car». I said ok.
On my way to another shop I passed a small Mexican owned shop and I stopped my car. The guys looked at my tires and immediately said it would be $ 20.00 in labor and all I needed to change was three lug nuts on one of my tires. I went and bought each lug nut for $ 1.99 a piece from Auto Zone and came back and in 15 minutes I was rolling again. I was so happy at the price these guys gave me I tipped them an extra $ 20.00. Just for their Honesty. My car has driven very smooth for the past four months so I know that they fixed the issue.
This guy from Puckett Shell was trying to rip me off.
