160 million dollars for this thing? I think a lot of politicians pockets got rich out of it.

Good place for walking out with the family or friends! There is a small bridge west of the bridge, which has food trucks, pretty flowers, retro lawn chairs, and a geometric playground. The best time to go is after sunset (although the sun setting isn’t on the same side of the bridge). I recommend visiting the bridge while the water in the Trinity River is up (due to a record-​breaking rainfall in May). Overall, go there! It is now a landmark of the Dallas skyline!
Just a note: This bridge is designed by the Spanish architect, Calatrava!

Love it and I agree a nice addition to the Dallas skyline. We needed something to add to it a bit and spruce it up! I enjoy driving over it and bringing out of towners to check it out. For you runners, a few of the Dallas races in the area will include it in the course so you can run it and admire the view. It’s one of the main reasons I love running the Dallas Marathon nowadays! I think it is a great investment to the city.

Nice place to run or walk or just stand and watch the city go about its business. Went there one evening and got some cool pictures of the bridge. Parking was easy and the place was well lit. Got hassled by a panhandler, but overall good experience.

A pretty cool addition to Dallas landmark! We are still a tad bit lacking in that department but this is pretty cool. FYI, Dallas skyline is number one in the world!!! (
) take that other cities!!! The use for this bridge is for you to drive through it and feel as happy as I do when I’m driving through it! Definitely feels different driving through this bridge than any other ones. This bridge reminds me of a harp and I want to play with the strings. Giant waste of money so the Hunts could have anoyher landmark. It goes nowhere (Ray’s Sporting Goods). Is the only thing in west Dallas worth it. Lots of backdoor deals for developers and contractors. Tore down a perfectly good bridge for this. What a waste considering what could have been done with those millions of dollars. Maybe fix these terrible roads in Dallas.

After 13 years I still get lost in Dallas and during a few occasions I’ve found myself driving across the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge marveling at the architecture details.
It’s a beautiful bridge that adds another layer of interest to the already beautiful Dallas skyline.

Dallas is a city of nooks and crannies. This bridge just made some of those gems more accessible to everyone. On the other side and around the corner, you’ll find The Foundry at night (an Expo area style open air venue for live music) is Chicken Scratch Restaurant (a family friendly fun meal stop) by day. Stuck on 30 traffic? Exit Beckley and cut across MHH for traffic free entry into the city or onto 75.
I love this bridge for what she has already done for the city of Dallas, but more so for what she has yet to achieve.

Currently of course, many are quick to point out the bridge dumps into a transformer station on the west side. What people need to do (as of this writing) is to take a Sunday afternoon trip across the bridge, hang the first right off Beckley, park the car, & walk up the berm & just soak it in. Right now it is an often stinky floodplain. But look at the bridge, look at all the lovely old bridges beyond it, & the vision of Mrs. Hill all comes to life. In due course, it shall become the showpiece of the state of Texas. With the floodplain sub-​structured & managed, the area will become a shallow lake/​large river very similar to what Austin has long since done. 4 story multi-​family dwellings, a few hotels, tree-​lined jogging-​cycling trails, light commercial food & entertainment, the whole nine. As you point out the area’s racy past, is it not easy to see much of that in due course re-​animated in a light-​hearted way in the spirit of fun?
Plug in all these features & imagine for example the old-​style streetlamps sure to be in place on the trail, benches, et. al., & then plug in the night skyline view… It will be spectacular. I have to admit I was one to complain loudly about taxes put in place by Mrs. Miller to help finance the construction.
Now that this first huge step has been taken, I concede my lack of vision & inspiration at the time. The river areas of Dallas & Ft. Worth were an historic screw-​up for lack of reasonable forethought a century ago. In installing this magnificent bridge, a vital step has finally been taken to transform blight into beauty. To me it’s obvious that the area will develop out quite de rigueur… Can’t wait to see it. :)

The bridge that will help change a small portion of West Dallas. Yes, the bridge is aesthetically appealing and that signature icon Dallas can hang their hat on. The bridge is awesome even if it is the shortest signature bridge around. The area has definitely changed the area and gentrification is going on right now in that area. The city has built what they hoped would help stimulate business to a downtrodden area and it has worked. This is the same things this city has fought for in south Dallas but has yet to find anything to trigger this type of development in that area. The bridge kicks ass and leads to some even better cold craft beer. Be wary of the speed traps and crazy drivers trying to cross three lanes to take a left on singleton. Stay hard Dallas

We did our engagement photos here. We haven’t gotten them back yet, but I have seen photos here before and loved them. Such a gorgeous bridge, and you get a shot of the lovely Dallas skyline in the background. Traffic wasn’t terrible and we were able to find parking close by. Also, the American Heart Association walk went over this bridge, which was amazing!

Bridging History
The Margaret Hunt Hill bridge is often called, the bridge to nowhere by people who have that knowing smug attitude that is all too common in Dallas. They have no idea what used to lie in what is now the remnants of a once hidden red light district.
The Devil’s Back Porch (now just referred to as West Dallas) was once the den of vice and immorality. Bonnie and Clyde would race up Eagle Ford Road (now Singleton) on their way out of Dallas Police jurisdiction and into the safety of Irving in their stolen black Ford V8. Stopping from time to time at Clyde Burrow’s family gas station at the corner of Eagle Ford Road and Borger St. (it’s still there). The whole street used to be filled with saloons, brothels, and a movie theater among other less nefarious businesses.
The red light district was slowly killed off when Dallas officially annexed the area as part of the city, few improvements were made, instead a lead smelter plant rose. In the 50s it became the site of a huge section 8 housing projects complex, something that defines the area to present day. Still a few business and communities of working class families live there.
While «bridge to nowhere» might be a catchy phrase, the authors of such phrases forget the true meaning of a bridge. It is a structure built to span physical obstacles such as a body of water, valley, or road, for the purpose of providing passage over the obstacle. In this case the obstacle is intangible, it is the years of neglect and dilapidation. So it is the hope that just as the rail road made a small town called Dallas into a thriving city, this bridge will bring a new breath of air to the Devil’s Back Porch.
Bridge to the Future

It took years, but the MHH bridge is complete, in use, and beautiful! I loved the Dallas skyline before, and I love it even more now!
I watched this bridge being built as I drove into downtown every morning for work. I loved seeing the progress, it really made its opening super exciting for me.
I think all visitors should take a detour and drive across this beautiful bridge.

This bridge did its job in a friendly and efficient manner. We are very pleased with this bridge.

I laugh at all these «This bridge leads to nowhere» comments because I live on the other side of the MHH bridge. So… this bridge leads me straight home.
What, you didn’t think people on the other side of the bridge can Unilocal?
This bridge is spectacular. It’s awesome driving over it and seeing the skyline as I drive into Dallas everyday. Especially on a clear day. The view at night is just as spectacular, where you can view the skyline lit up, including a portion of the Omni Hotel.
A+++, will drive on again… and again… and again.

I had heard about this bridge before visiting Dallas and being the type of photographer who does almost anything to get a good shot, decided to make this my main subject and was the first place I visited this time around. It’s a nice looking bridge but south of the bridge is a scary area. They have old houses along with warehouses and such and absolutely no parking.
At night, the place is even scarier but the damn thing does look majestic as hell with the skyline in the backdrop so it might be worth the risk of getting carjacked or murdered to come and visit. I certainly did enjoy taking pictures of it and am still here to talk about it.
As for the purpose of the bridge? I’m not from around here so you tell me.

OK, I’ve been calling this thing the «bridge to nowhere“‘ not just because it goes to a part of town bereft of interesting destinations but because it cost a zillion dollars and goes to a part of town bereft of interesting destinations. In other words, in a few short minutes you can go from the museum/​arts district to warehouses and light industry. After all, it was a zillion dollars I felt could be better spent on potholes and our struggling school system.
But, I have to admit that the bridge is growing on me. For one thing it does seem to be generating some positive growth on a side of the Trinity that can use it – Four Corners Brewery and Hoffman Hots for starters. For another, it is connecting a long forgotten and neglected part of town to the rest of Big D. And maybe both Dallas and West Dallas will benefit. I can hope.
But in the meantime, do yourself a favor. Grab a meal at Smoke. Then drive back across the bridge after dark. You’ll be treated to probably the best view of the Dallas skyline around. Spectacular.

Ok, so in all fairness the bridge does look pretty sweet. On the flip-​side, I’m still waiting to discover a use for this thing. I guess it gave a decent paycheck to a few dozen construction workers and other assorted craftsmen for a while, but that’s about it.
I used it a few weeks ago to try Odom’s BBQ, but it was a complete bust. I’m planning on trying out Babb Bros. BBQ sometime soon, so we’ll see how that turns out.

OK, since I reviewed a bridge (
) on a recent trip to Florida, it seems only fitting that I should give a nod to something a little closer to home.
It’s a very pretty bridge, but it’s best appreciated at night. It rather disappears in the sunshine, but whenever I’m heading to Oak Cliff, I always plan to drive over the MHHB on the way home. It’s especially cool with the sunroof open and looking up (of course when I’m not driving).
Heading east, it’s got some crazy off ramps… Slow down. Heading west, well were was this bridge going anyways? It has massive infrastructure dumping a lot of traffic into seemingly nowhere. Is driving on IH30 that bad?
Three stars because I think there’s room for improvement.
Can you walk over the MHHB? It’s hard to tell, but zooming in on the satellite photo I don’t see sidewalks. Where does that sidewalk go on the SE corner (by the right turn lane)? It looks like nowhere. Maybe if you are walking, you need to use the bridge to the north. I’ll bet there are some good views.
Can you walk under the MHHB? I’d love to see those main supports up close and personal. I’ll bet they are massive.
If I get these questions sorted out, look for a review update.

What a glorious new addition to the Dallas Skyline! I am so happy to have this Calatrava bridge symbolizing a fresh, new direction for Dallas. And can’t wait for it’s purpose of uniting Dallas to take form.
The arch looming over I-​35 demands such a presence that you can’t take your eye of the beauty. The meticulously placed cables intertwining to create an optical illusion of sorts denotes a playfulness in appropriate opposition to the stark white hue and industrial piping that constitutes the arch. I love it and I am proud to call it ours.
