KNON Community Radio

Listening to KNON is like taking a musical trip through Dallas. It truly lives up to its motto as «the voice of the people.» I remember waking up to the unwavering faith and energy of South Dallas gospel, cruising through the barrio with Latin NRG, contemplating the endless Texas landscape with Americana, and welcoming the dark night with metal and punk. Obscure music genres like zydeco, tejano, Ethiopian, and even Native American are well represented here in a way unlike any other station I have ever heard. There isn’t another station on the planet you’ll hear James McMurtry, Little Joe y La Familia, Clarence Carter, Gossaye Tesfaye, Cradle of Filth, Sonic Youth, and Café Tacuba in the same day, or ever.

There was a point in my life where I gave up on radio in its entirity… then I heard about KNON 89.3…I use to love listening to the Greyzone on Saturday nights. In fact if it were a coin toss between Edge Club and Greyzone… well 89.3 it’d be. I’ve even been into the studio when my friend’s band, The Mind Theory, we’re invited to play that particular show. It also happend to be the very last one hosted by the deejay (his name escapes me now). Nevertheless give’em a listen. You won’t be disappointed.

I love this radio station. The most variety of any FM radio station I’ve ever experienced. I love the Zydeco on Mondays

This station is permanently programmed into the memory of my truck’s radio: 89.3 KNON. It’s brilliant.
They have different programs on throughout the week of a unique and wide variety. My personal favorites are «Beyond Bows and Arrows» the Native American Music Show on every Sunday from 6 –8 pm, and «The Cajun Hour» on Mondays at 8 pm. They also have a great Blues shows, Reggie shows, and a fabulous Electronica show.
During pledge week, the DJ can get a bit annoying asking for donations, but hey, it’s public radio with no commercials, so it balances out.
Next time you can’t find anything decent to listen to on the radio, flip to 89.3 and see what they’ve got going on.

Love their freestyle format. Friday nights there is electronic music starting around midnight. Sometime in the afternoon they play Texas country or americana. Sunday nights they have a punk music show. They even play Indian music on Sundays-​in the early afternoon.
