Received these cookies as a gift. They were very delicious! Loved the snicker doodle… the chocolate chip were a bit too sweet for my taste but overall very delicious! They’re very soft but not crumbly, buttery but not greasy overall they were the perfect medium of everything!

I went to JD’s based on a recommendation from a friend and was seriously impressed! I would definitely recommend going if you find yourself in the area. Unless you consider yourself a cookie connoisseur or have serious cookie cravings, I would probably not go out of my way to come here. That said, I was pretty thrilled that I found myself in the neighborhood. I had a milk chocolate chip cookie, a macadamia coconut cookie and a semi sweet chocolate chip cookie with nuts. The milk chocolate chip cookie was fresh out of the oven and was still super soft… just perfect. (+) fresh, buttery, delicious cookies (-) seating(not an issue because I wanted my cookies to go)

I would consider a trip to McDonalds or your local DMV an upgrade in customer service over this place. Before today, we raved about this bakery. But, beneath it’s sugar coating, this place is beyond unfriendly. We’re glad their staff helped us see this today before we gave them any more of our business. On our way to pick up our order of 6 dozen cookies, traffic came to a halt. Our ETA then ran past their closing time. Disappointed, we called the store, informed them we’d be late, but were over-the-moon happy when they said they’d stay open for us. Over 20 miles down the road(and within one mile of the store) their staff called back with a different tone. A woman abruptly told us «they’d decided to go home because they were tired and had been working all day.» When we pleaded, saying we’d just drove all that way and were within sight of their location, she literally mocked us and laughed unsympathetically. She ended the call with«I hope you’ll come back to get your order, or not… bye.» It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say it was the worst customer service any of us had ever experienced.

Tucked away within more or less a single square mile of the Highland Park area are three bakeries that are known either in part or by definition for their cookies. As per usual, I wanted to find out which were the best, and decided to do so via a head’s up competition: Crème de la Cookie: JD’s Chippery: Great One Cookie Company: Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? While closely located to one another, each of these three cookie shops has a totally different vibe. Known for their award winning Chocolate Chip cookies, Toni Rivard’s Crème de la Cookie is a more comprehensive bakery, and I imagine they even do far more business on cake balls, cupcakes and other delicacies than they do on cookies. CC definitely aims for the more gourmet atmosphere that I have no doubt brings in the Highland Park moms and Louie V yielding SMU students by the droves, but I won’t say for a second that it’s a bad thing. JD’s Chippery and Great One Cookie Co on the other hand are strictly cookie spots, although even between the two there’s a different vibe. JD’s has been here for more than 30 years, and in every way they’ve become part of the community as a mom and pop cookie shop. Great One Cookie Co on the other hand is more of a newcomer, and Pam Denesuk’s small but modern storefront will have you feeling like you’ve truly found a hidden gem in the city with the names of cookies simply displayed with the actual wares hidden in the back. Single Star /Single Star /Single Star Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Another point of diversity amongst these three cookie shops related to both price and portion size. Here’s a breakdown — Crème de la Cookie: Average price of $ 1.20 per cookie JD’s Chippery: Average price of $ 0.75 per cookie Great One Cookie Company: Average price of $ 2.00 per cookie You can browse my pictures if you like to get a sense for the size of each shop’s cookie, and depending on which review you’re reading you’ll see one grouping of the three depicted below, but for reference Crème de la Cookie and Great One Cookie Company both had what I would call standard sized cookies whereas JD’s had slightly smaller cookies. The portion size between JD’s and the others is reflected in the price, but Great One Cookie Company was a real outlier with prices that were nearly twice that of portion similar Crème de la Cookie. Worth it? I suppose that depends, but it’s certainly worth pointing out. Single Star /Single Star /Single Star Stars 3 and 4: How was the food(or in this case, the cookies)? Let’s not kid ourselves here: The Chocolate Chip Cookie is the rightful benchmark for how all cookies should be measured, so for this dual star category I decided to dish out one star for the Chocolate Chip cookie alone and a second based on the others. With respect to the first star, this was essentially a runaway victory for JD’s Chippery for two reasons. First and foremost, call me crazy, but I like my cookies to have a slightly crunchy outside and a soft inside, and that’s exactly what JD’s Chocolate Chip cookies had. My Crème de la Chocolate Chip Cookie was soft with the upside of having the chocolate chips essentially melted into the rest of the cookie, but the lack of a crunch left me a tad bit unsatisfied. Great One’s chocolate chip cookie was soft to the point of having me wondering whether or not it was cooked all the way through, but this was made up for by having a seriously absurd quantity of chocolate chips. The second reason behind my thinking that JD’s Chocolate Chip cookies claimed the category came down to the cookie ex-Chocolate Chips, where JD’s had an absolutely delicious unique flavor that I can’t quite place whereas CC and GO were more plain if you go a bite without any chocolate chips. With the second star in mind, JD’s once again claimed a crown of sorts thanks to their cinnamon packed Snickerdoodle that also packed a crunch when compared to the softer and more mildly flavored doodles from Crème and Great One. One thing I will point out is that the Ginger Snap at Crème de la Cookie was fantastic, and the Peanut Butter Pretzel Chocolate Chip offering at Great One should be sampled by all cookie enthusiasts. Single Star /Dual Stars /Single Star Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? So there you have it folks. Again, everyone has their preferences when it comes to cookies, and my preferences line up best with JD’s for the reasons I’ve stated above. 5 Stars to JD’s Chippery, 3 stars to the rest. Better than home cooking! These cookies are right out of the oven, warm and comforting. The one thing the customer needs to know is no credit cards. No cash, no cookies. The times I have stopped by the lines have been two to three people deep. The staff is obviously college students or generation X. The location is convenient to SMU, parking is a problem. Give it a try, bring cash.

WARM&DELICIOUSCHOCOLATECHIPCOOKIES– what’s not to like? After seeing their award for Best Chocolate Chip Cookies in Dallas(even though its from a while ago), I knew I had to stop by here at some point. I came in on a Saturday around 1pm, and the store wasn’t busy at that time but had a steady stream of customers coming in and out. Although they were sold out of most of their muffins at that time, they still had almost all the cookie flavors available. I tried: –From L to R: M&M, Semi-Sweet Chocolate, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, Milk Chocolate, Peanut Butter($ 9.80/dz, ): My favorite was the chocolate chip, then peanut butter, M&M, peanut butter chocolate chip, then semi-sweet chocolate. I had a few bites of the chocolate chip while it was still warm and it was SOGOOD. Soft and fluffy, with a tiny bit of chew to it, and not too sweet. Highly, highly recommended! The peanut butter was also good, and the M&M(although the hard candy shell kept throwing me off, so I probably wouldn’t get this again). I didn’t like the pb chocolate chip or the semi-sweet chocolate much, so I wouldn’t get those again either. I really regret not trying the sugar or the white chocolate, so I’ll definitely have to come back for those. And the muffins– I really regret not trying a muffin! The staff here are really sweet and friendly. Parking is difficult though– there are a few spots right in front if you’re planning on being there for 15 minutes or less. There is also parking for the strip mall type area a little past the store, but that also looked pretty busy.

Ok, before you get mad, hear me out. I really, really want to love this place. This morning I stopped in here and got a muffin which was really pretty good, but this place is known for their cookies. I went with the good old fashion chocolate chip. If you are a cookie place, this should be your claim to fame, but I was not feelin’ it. It was extra sweet. When I eat a chocolate chip cookie, I want crispy edges, a hint of salt, and a chewy center, oh and I want to taste the butter. All I could taste in this cookie was the sugar. =(My husband had a peanut butter chocolate and a coconut. The coconut was my favorite, but I was really hoping for a great chocolate chip cookie.

The peanut butter chocolate chip is amazing, but any of the cookies are to die for! I would also recommend a cherry limeade, not exactly healthy but also very good and refreshing! If you want breakfast, their muffins are really good as well, tons of yummy flavors.

I don’t like to write bad reviews BUT… the show must go on. I had a craving for sweets that just wouldn’t quit. My heart yearned for tiff treats but it was rush hour so I decided to try something new & I stumbled across this place which wasn’t too far from me. With my mouth watering I floored it over to this bakery to get what I felt I deserved(amazing cookies) after a long, hard week on the job. What I got was far from amazing. :’( Upon walked in I was greeted with terrific 5 star service from the friendly cashier. I opted for the cookies fresh from the oven: snikerdoodle, chocolate chip, sugar & oatmeal raisin. As I walked to the car I could barely contain myself so I ripped into the bag and had 4 of the most subpar, raw in the middle, flavor lacking cookies I could ever imagine :(. Bite after bite my heart sank until it hit the floor. I can see that I’m an exception to the rule here but with it being so close to a college campus I’m wondering if the reviewers are primarily hungover college students(ouch that was harsh… sorry).

Out of this world. This place has been here forever. It is almost as good as their neighbor Bubba’s. It is really good and soft always. How do they make them so soft even hours after you take it home? Probably all the butter and it is delicious. If you go past this place, grab at least one. It is less than a dollar. I recommend the chocolate chip or snickerdoodle. The M&M cookie is also amazing. Notice how dense they look but how fluffy they truly are.

A lot of folks are into this Highland Park staple, but to me they are just«ok», or by Unilocal’s rating system, «Meh, I’ve experienced better.» I really have no complaints about any of my JD’s Chippery experiences other than the lack of parking, but that is a Snider Plaza problem in general. The staff is is friendly and efficient, the prices are ‘ok”, the the smells coming out of this place are wonderful… all making for a setting that you feel like you are going to get a great cookie, and then it is just ok. My favorite, and what i will still come here for is the Snickerdoodle cookie. They are really good. I have tried others at many places that do not measure up, but I honestly believe most people will like these. What may not far as well on the comparison chart however is the standard Chocolate Chip cookie and Oatmeal cookies. Those were nothing to write home about.

JD’s Chippery is a bakery in the University Parks area that specializes in cookies, muffins, and… cherry limeade. Yes, I love ordering a big cherry limeade along with my cookies. It’s what makes a visit to JD’s Chippery so unique. Oh, their cookies are pretty darn good too. My Overall Rating — 4 Stars(Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere — JD’s Chippery is pretty small with hardly enough room for more than 10 people. Inside you’ll find rows of cookies/muffins lined up and ready to be taken home. It smells like a bakery(good) and makes you want to buy the store. Beware though, parking can be quite limited along with the tight spaces. But other than that it has the makings of a great, local bakery. ½ Star. Service — The staff is great and helpful. You may need to jockey for position against some of the local high school kids that like to show up after school for a snack. But once you are helped, your order is promptly boxed and you are rung up. They used to be cash only but accept CC’s over a certain amount. ½ Star. Food — The cookies here are fantastic. They are about 3 inches in diameter, nice and soft in the middle, and best when served warm. I think JD’s Chippery has the best snicker doodle cookies in all of Dallas, and their chocolate chip cookies are a close second. But it’s also hard to ignore their muffins. They are also very big, are nice and soft in the middle as well, and they carry seasonal flavors. If you’re lucky enough to visit in the fall, you must get some pumpkin muffin which is made to be eaten with a nice, hot cup of coffee. Finally, I know this sounds strange but I love ordering a cherry limeade every time I come here. I don’t order to drink with my cookies, I ordered because I can and JD’s Chippery uses«Sonic ice». It comes in a Styrofoam cup, which may be bad for the environment, but it’s great for keeping your drink cool. 2 Stars. Will I Return? — Yes. As long as JD’s Chippery continues to make the best snicker doodle in town, I will continue to visit. And like I said, for whatever reason it helps that I can order must cherry limeade drink too. Yes it’s weird and yes, I’ll be back. 1 Star. My Unilocal Rating Scale(Sum of all parts): 1 Star — Atmosphere — Is it a cool dive? Perhaps an upscale place? No matter the type, atmosphere plays a big part and I’ll give a star if I like it or thinks it has great charm. 1 Star — Service — You can have a great meal with bad service. But that’s also what can make a five star joint drop to four. It’s important to the dining experience that service is great and on point. 2 Stars — Food — I’ll award up to two stars for the food, since this is the main reason we dine out. Sometimes the extra star is given for value, but it’s really all about the food. 1 Star — Will I come back? — If I know for a fact I’ll return, I’ll give this a star. A place has to make an impression for me to return. Each Category can be given up to 1 star except food(2 stars) because I consider all these categories important to the overall dining experience. I will sum them up to provide my final Unilocal score.

How many of you know what Heaven tastes like? Am I talking about Tiff Treats? NO! Am I talking about Crème De La Cookie? Not even close! Ladies and Gentlemen, if you want the best cookies that Dallas has to offer, you MUST make your way to JD’s Chippery. Oh my goodness, the best cookies I have ever had in my 26 years of being on planet Earth. I couldn’t help but notice that a gentleman below me stated that the«cookies were undercooked.» –_– Basically, if you like hard, throw-on-the-ground-doesn’t-break type cookies then this place ISNOT the place for you. However for all my people that like a little crunch on the outside and gooey ooey goodness on the inside —yes I’m still talking about the cookies— then go ahead and stop on by. The line is generally pretty long but it’s worth it. Try the cherry lemonade as well. Cash only!

Undercooked… Every time I have these I think the same… These cookies are terribly undercooked. Appears that some people like them this way. Could just be a preference difference as I prefer cookies with a little crunch.

JD’s is a classic in the Park Cities. Warm gooey soft cookies that come in a array of flavors from Snickerdoodle to white chocolate; a delicious treat for any day. They also have great muffins like Double Chocolate and Banana Nut. Everything is made fresh, and they often will do a «day-old» sale of the previous days supply(though they often sell out!)

Holy cow, these cookies are amazing! I am quite the cookie connoisseur, and these cookies get 5+ stars! All the flavors are fantastic, but the classic semi-sweet chocolate chip is wonderful. These cookies don’t look that impressive but don’t let looks deceive you – they are INCREDIBLE!(I’m running out of laudatory words to describe how good these cookies are.) In comparison with Tiff’s Treats, JD’s are great freshly baked AND a day later. Tiff’s Treats are delicious, but they are a little blah a day later.
