This place is closed! New restaurant, new owner! Thai Opal moved in after and did a complete renovation to the space.

I have been eating Thai Food my entire life. I wish I could give this place a good rating but sadly, I can’t. Mainly first reason number 1 on went on a cold day to purchase some take out. I was charged dinner prices instead of lunch prices, although I went lunch hours… go figure. I had asked for one to be made with tofu and they DID not make it with tofu it was made with meat. Sadly the meal was not consumed by the person it was purchased for since they are a vegetarian. I called them up and told them of the issue and they said oh I am sorry just let us know the next time that you come in and we will take care of it. I had purchased my food with a credit card, so IF they were customer savvy they should have just refunded me for the meal that was not made correctly. Next time we were in we stood at the door waiting for a table, they were so busy that they don’t even know the basic courtesy 101 of saying hello and letting someone know that you will be with them. AFTER we waited for a table and we, were sat at it and it was dirty! :(We waited a long time for our appetizer, the calamari, it was overcooked. way to chewy. Our man entrees came out… it was OK, just basic very watery and the rice lacked that moisture. I have eaten rice for a long time and can tell you the difference between jasmine, broken and Korean… etc… the rice SUCKED, the food sucked and we were so annoyed at the horrible service, that we just paid and left. Mind you we didn’t even bother to notify them of the previous mess up they had made a while back to credit us for a meal. Why? because it was a while ago since the incident had happened to when we came into dine… and their operations seem so prehistoric… You can get better Thai food at Tukta Thai, the service is spot on and they are pleasant. They may not be spot on all the time with the consistency of the curry but at least they know how to treat people. Sometimes giving someone good service a clean table and mediocre food can do wonders for your rating. but I will only give this place 2 stars since it seems the service and food have been lacking…

Decided to try a new Thai place as my boyfriend and I wanted to expand beyond our favorite Bangkok City and were totally disappointed. The green papaya salad was small and lacked complexity in flavor. Iceberg lettuce underneath to give it a larger appearance. The lime juice tasted artificial. I ordered the tofu mushroom soup as I thought it would be vegetarian given the tofu, but it was all set in chicken broth. It appeared that iceberg lettuce was also added to this soup. I asked the guy behind the counter if the Thai ice tea had milk in it and he said«Oh, I don’t know.» This was my first question to him and my first red flag. I left disappointed and hungry, and I wish I would have gone to Bangkok instead. Given the fact that no one else was in there, I assume this type of experience has been had by others. Basically, it was like the hospital I work for’s cafeteria tried to make Thai. Oh, and got to hear great stories on TMZ about abortions, drug use, and other stupid celebrity nonsense. BOOO!

I had been meaning to try this place, as I hadn’t had a bad experience with Thai food before. The drink machine was broken and TMZ was blaring. The dishes I would usually order looked lacking, so I tried to order a «safe» entrée. It was lunch-sized but dinner-priced. It was Thai herb basil and in the picture, it showed lightly fried chicken smothered in fresh herbs. When it arrived at the counter, it looked like overcooked, batter-dipped sweet and sour chicken. The cashier/cook/waiter explained that the herbs were in the batter, but it didn’t taste like it. It tasted like it looked– a plate of plain and overcooked batter dipped chicken. No vegetables, herbs or anything. It did come with a scoop of white rice on a side plate. This is probably the worst, most boring and bland Asian food of any kind I have ever eaten. It would have almost been inedible if it weren’t for the cup of hot sauce on the side. It seemed like Sriracha mixed with orange marmalade or something. Anyway, for $ 26 for two people, I could have had much better if I had gone anywhere else. I almost felt a moral obligation to warn the two unsuspecting customers who came in just before I left. The décor was OK, but I felt puzzled by the large dead plant in the center of the place. After getting my food, it made more sense; it symbolized the place.

The food is good, just not enough. I am so accustomed to having my plate filled and having leftovers. The place is more of a to go establishment. Dont look for ambiance here because you will not find it. It is clean though. Not sure about service as I did not dine in.

Wasn’t sure it was even open on the Saturday night Gal Pal and I entered, as there was noone visible in the place as we entered. After a few seconds, a gal slowly made her way out from the kitchen. I asked her what was the best thing on the menu and took her advice of panang curry, while Gal Pal ordered a Pad Thai. We also got a chicken satay for a starter. As it was a to-go order, the hospital cafeteria — like dining area wasn’t an issue. The food was pretty good and, if you are local like we are, it is definitely worth getting. We’ll be back, but only for take-away.

My go to place for a carry out Pad Thai. Has that sweet/salty/spicy thing going on that makes Thai food so addictive. Really good. Recommended! Edit: had to dock a star because today I ordered Pad Thai with chicken(dinner portion). Was starving, got it home, NOCHICKEN. Called them back, they said they’d make me another. So I had to go back out in the cold, re-park in the janky shopping center, etc… all because the cook«forgot.» Place was empty, so it’s not like they were so swamped it got overlooked. BOO!

It was close, never been… hell, lets give it a try. Dined in… not very many people to warm the seats. Observed more orders being picked-up and delivered. The waitress with a solemn face and monotone voice took our order and all that could be said at the table was, «Red Bull gives you wings, but how about personality?» Ordered corn patties and beef spicy noodles with basil(spicy level of 5, the hottest). Corn patties were small and a tad chewy, but by golly it had corn kernels in it that I knew would see light the next day. Sauce was good, overall pretty mediocre. Spicy noodles were spicy, but not as spicy as I would have liked. Sirracha & sambal are hotter just to give a comparison. Overall the dish was okay, but I was not served my bowl of accompanying rice. SO… I was still hungry when I was done. Boo!

If money is tight, then it’s thai food tonight! When you’re on a budget and want some tasty thai food, then give this place a try. It’s empty the majority of the time, but I’m not sure why. The food here is pretty tasty and the price is just about right. I’ve tried the pad thai, the spicy noodles, the curry fried rice, and panang curry with chicken. My favorite would be the spicy noodles with beef. I just love the white flat rice noodles. They don’t tend to make your food spicy so you have to request it. Give this place a try and you might be pleasantly surprised to find some decently good thai food for less.

Thai food, nothing special, I’ve certainly had better. Nothing much to complain about, but nothing to note as being very good.

I picked up dinner for six here last night and it was quite good. We all tried something different — spicy fried rice, panang curry with tofu, pad kee mao with chicken, crab noodles, pad thai, tofu with peanut sauce — and everyone was delighted. I do hope this place has a lot of deliveries and take out orders because there was not a single diner in there at 6:15 p.m. Speaking of delivery, I have ordered delivery from here also and compared to its sister station on Mockingbird(just«Ginger Thai») the food is simply better. The menu is the same but the flavors are more balanced and the dishes are carried out with more detail(read: not as heavy on the oils). To be perfectly honest I much prefer this over Royal Thai, which seems to be the favorite of East Dallasites. BUT, and an important but, they are not open on Sundays any more so if you are craving this particular Thai restaurant’s food, the Mockingbird location is the one that’s open.

Pay up front, sit down dining. Prices reasonable. I didn’t realize that when I ordered curry it would come with a soup up front. Beware vegetarians: The soup was not vegetarian!

Decided to check out a new thai place today. and so I called and tried to see if they made pad kra pow pork –thai style w/ground meat. well first off the person who answered the phone didn’t even know what that was, and let me know that they didn’t serve pork at that location. That tells me something right there haha. But that didn’t dissuade me from at least trying it out. I love thai food(if i’m ordering out, its 85% of the time thai food), and am willing to take a gamble to find a great tasting thai place for lunch. Ordered a safe dish, pad kee mao chicken(spicy flat noodles with chicken) 4 out of 5 spicy. Seemed to be missing some particular flavor i’m used to getting at real thai joints. dunno if its missing more basil in it or what. I ordered during lunch time and they didn’t give me a free egg roll or iced tea either :(, the guy up front didn’t even tell me about it. Their ad in their to-go menu says that they offer it. course i didn’t find out until after I got back to work though. The interior décor looks very nice and well thought out. The dish I got that day just didn’t work for me personally. Might go back to try some curries, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to do it when I have more solid choices to pick from.

Any place that has telenovelas and pop music playing at the same time, serves up delicious food and isn’t completely obnoxious is A-OK in my book. Super fast, moderately priced and clean, Ginger Thai is my new go-to place in this part of town. I’ve never waited more than 5 minutes for food on the go, partly because I haven’t ever seen it crowded and partly because they’re hustling back in the kitchen. Panang curry, mossaman curry, pad thai, tom kha gai soup, crab fried magical things all = delish. I need to branch out and try more of their noodle offerings(have you been touched by his noodly appendage?) Is it the best Thai in town? No. But it’s a solid contender for take out and delivery in the northeast Dallas area. Plus, if you’re feeling super multicultural, stop by the Fiesta next door and getchoo some groceries.

Support this place, please! This Thai restaurant took over a space that used to be a chicken & rice place, and man, was it bad. It’s not a great location, but easy to find if you’re familiar with Mariano’s(and you should be). When I went in for lunch my brother and I were the only ones there, but the food was good! I had the panang curry and chicken spring rolls, it was delicious. My brother had the chicken pad thai and was equally pleased. Aside from Royal Thai, which is more expensive and a longer wait, I can’t think of a better Thai place in the area. Also, FYI, this is not their first location. I’ve eaten at Ginger Thai across town(sort of over by Sam Moon’s), and this place is just as good.

This small place is easy to miss. It is in the strip shopping center next to the Fiesta grocery store and across the parking lot from Mariano’s. We ordered out Panang Curry(very good), Pineapple Fried Rice with tofu(great), Thai Samosas(very good, never had these before), and the chicken Satay(very good– the chicken was basted in yellow curry spice, delicious). The Fresh Salad Rolls were the only thing we ordered that was just OK. We were the only ones there on a quiet Sunday night. There are nice tables to eat in the restaurant but I think many of their customers order out. Based on our first visit, we will be back to order more well prepared Thai food.

If you live in this little part of town, you know it’s hard to find take-out thai food without having to drive down to Greenville Avenue or University Park. This place is in a really unassuming location and you’ll pass by it 99 times out of a 100 without knowing it’s there. Considering the shops that are nextdoor to it, it’s actually pretty nice on the inside. It’s like someone actually took the time to consider wall colors and décor. I stopped by today for lunch since I was craving pad thai. It was around 11:45 and the place was dead… only one other person there having lunch. But like I mentioned, the interior is much cleaner and nicer than you would expect by looking at it from the outside and it’s location… I instantly recognized the curtains hanging in the glass exterior from Ikea. The menu has less than 20 items on which makes ordering pretty simple. I got the pad thai, and it looked really good. It tasted pretty good as well… I think I’ve had better, but for a $ 7 it was nice and filling. This is a great place to get a quick-fix of thai food.
