Dallas Services For Visually Impaired Children

The teachers at Dallas Day School love and care for their little students! Regardless of age, all kids are on a structured schedule. The Pre-​K kids receive Spanish lessons, have pull-​out sessions for certain content areas (ie, literacy), and a curriculum that covers diverse weekly topics, such as feelings, plants, occupations, and space. The Parent Teacher Organization is awesome, and sets up events such as book fairs and fundraising dinners.
The Pre-​K kids have alot of fun together, and most, if not all, have established great friendships that extend outside of school. This school has been a blessing.

Like Shaurica, I also worked for a brief stint at Dallas Day School. Though the teachers are trying their best, upper management makes promises that the teachers can’t possibly keep. Children are often pushed around for hours at a time in strollers by volunteers in order to maintain government regulations of teacher to children ratios. If you’re looking for quality childcare in Dallas, I would look elsewhere.

As a former teacher here, I can tell you that the price you pay for care here is not what you’re thinking it is. The school is horribly understaffed, and there is no sense of permanence because teachers switch classrooms like crazy due to lack of efficient staff, and personal drama/​drama with other teachers.
There are some nice teachers at the school, but most teachers here do not have a formal education (education beyond high school). Which is fine if it were advertised as some run-​of-​the-​mill daycare center, and not charging people as much as it is. The head person in charge of the school, Dr. Turnage hangs out and smokes cigarettes right by the entrance to the school, where coincidentally, there is a no smoking sign. I often smelled the smoke as I returned from lunch breaks on a daily basis.
I left my position here over a month ago due to certain situations I didn’t agree with, but the main issue that prompted me to post a review today is that I still have not received my final check from this school. I have contacted the director as well as Dr. Turnage on separate occasions over the past month, and still haven’t received my final pay. Dr. Turnage never even took the time to return my call. I’m not sure how any of this is even an issue to begin with since I had direct deposit with them, and my check should have just gone directly into my bank like every other normal job.

Dallas Day School is a good school for non-​special needs children. If your child has a special need, specifically Autism, this school is not the best place for them. According to their website they specialize in special needs with Autism being one of the areas. Well this is totally false. They don’t have any teachers there that are specifically trained with special needs. They stick the special needs child in with the other children. Inclusion is good for special needs children, but you shouldn’t put them in a class with non-​special needs children and think they will perform the same. The teachers there had no idea what to do with my 3 year old daughter that had Autism. More than a few occasions I came to pick her up and she was strapped into a chair. They finally put her into the pre-​k class with 4 and 5 year olds, with a class size of 12 – 15 and 1 teacher, and expected her to follow instructions. Well if you know anything about Autism, that’s not happening. Children with Autism need small groups or multiple teachers within a class. After, that class didn’t’ work out, they asked my daughter to leave the school. How can a school that supposes to specialize in Autism ask the 1 child in the school with Autism to leave. I’m sure they get grants and donations from people thinking that is it’s going towards children with Autism, well it’s not. I wonder if the boards of directors know what’s going on at this school.

My child has been enrolled for 4 months now and he loves going to school every day. His teachers are amazing with him. The name is misleading, they accept children into their daycare program that are not visually impaired.

The name of this company is a little misleading because they do more than help the visually impaired. That is how they were started in the 1950’s but they do a poor job at advertising their daycare services.
This is a wonderful daycare for kids. My daughter went here for 3 years prior to starting kindergarten and we were really happy with them. The staff is caring about your child, they actually teach your child. They have a very structured schedule with the kids including learning, play time outside, nap time, etc. I feel like my daughter really blossomed under their care and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for childcare in that area (lemmon and haskell).
