I opened Chris Murphy’s Automotive in August 1992.

My mechanical career began with the United States Army where I maintained and repaired wheel and track vehicles from Jeeps up to and including 60 ton track recovery vehicles. Upon leaving the Army, I was hired by an independent automotive garage/​gas station where I worked for four years. Leaving there, I went to a family owned independent business and worked with them for an additional eight years.

Summer of 1992, I made the decision to open my own automotive repair and maintenance facility on Garland Road at Lochwood. While at Chris Murphy’s Automotive, I have evolved from the mechanic to the business owner, where I still to this day work on my customers vehicles.

I’ve been going to Chris’s since 2011 when I bought a hunk of metal with everything wrong with it. Not only did they keep me on the road, but when the transmission needed replacing they were able to refer me to another trusted source. They also influenced my decision to buy a new prius, as Chris and his crew have extensive training and knowledge on the subject. In fact Chris and Wendy and the team not only service my vehicle, but educate me on the inner workings. It seems counter intuitive to say that this is an honest mechanic, but the fact is they are. I trust them with my vehicle, they work with my budget which is why I send all of my friends and family here as well.

I really like taking my car to Chris Murphy’s. I know that I’m not being charged for things I don’t need. They have looked over my car when doing an oil change just because I mentioned that I was going on a road trip. They are wonderful and their office manager, Wendy, is the best! She will work you in for an appointment and do research on things that need to be taken care of for your next visit. I highly recommend Murphy’s Automotive. They’re the BEST!

I had a brake job done and redone by another Dallas mechanic that I thought looked competent. They had been around a while and had a Mercedes in the parking lot. Silly me, that was the owner’s.
When the brakes still made noise after the re-​do, I looked around and found Chris Murphy’s. I asked them to take a look at it. They fixed it, though it wasn’t an easy fix, and took pictures along the way that they showed me later, so I could see what had gone wrong and what they did. They also didn’t rush me when I asked about more details, and had a book of car diagrams below the counter that they took out and used to show me what was up. I thought that was neat.
That was a couple years ago, and whenever an insta-​lube place tells me i need something besides just an oil change done, I say thanks, and then ask Chris Murphy’s to take a look.
They give you realistic timelines for getting your car back, even if it’s more than a few hours, but I’d prefer that over shops that promise you a couple hours and keep you in their waiting room for half a day. I don’t know if they’re reasonable or not reasonable; I don’t know the going rate for diagnosing and replacing spark plug coils and driveshaft seal thingies. I do know that I trust them, which is important to me. They’ll recommend all the recommended service maintenance stuff, so it helps to know your car’s history, i.e. if you’ve just had the transmission replaced, you may not need a transmission fluid flush… since it was all replaced anyway. But I’ve also had the actual price be less than the estimate once.
Also, like other said, they remember your name and your car and they’re friendly.

First time customer. Welcomed upon entry. Nice people/​employees. Clean waiting area. Was able to get a ride home while they worked on my car — I live close by. I explained the situation with my car and they were very understanding. Called to let me know all the issues found and provided advice as to what should be fixed and monitored. Typically you are charged a minimum of $ 75 — $ 100 to look at the car, they only charged what was done, less than $ 50. I highly recommend this business and will share with family and friends.

I have been using Chris Murphy’s Automotive for several years, initially finding them through AAA when needing to be towed. Since that time I have had numerous issues with two different cars… from oil changes, to struts, to batteries, to radiators.
The entire staff is great… they know me by name at this point and I know that I can trust them to give me an honest opinion and a fair price. Wendy, the service manager, is excellent to work with and is wonderful about explaining problems and presenting options/​prices for repairs. As a female, I always felt like car shops were trying to scam me for more money — but not Chris Murphy Automotive.
They are always able to look at and repair my car in a timely manner, while keeping me updated with progress calls. They offer a AAA discount as well.

C.M. Auto is *truly* a family business, complete w/​a shop-​dog. :P And Chris is the real deal; a determined mechanical problem solver. I’ve had rather poor serivice with my first generation Honda Insight hybrid at Honda’s service department, a major body shop, and another small shop (I will not mention who). Chris though, has a very honest and comprehensive approach to sharing the information he knows and discovers with customers. And his pricing is more than fair — it’s unmateched.
I came in frustrated, uneducated, and desperate to get my car repaired after a rearending that ultimately disabled the hybrid function. Chris Murphy investigated, diagnosed, and repaired my car’s IMA electric 144 volt and the coresponding wiring issues. He also taught me a TON about these complex cars.
I now get my 50+ MPG’s again! Thanks Chris & crew!
