First of all, the atmosphere is ideal. Relaxing, cool, and friendly. Secondly, these stylist are great. Lupe is now my go-​to girl for all my future hair needs. I trust her completely. This is a great salon, in a great neighborhood, with great people. Will be back all the time!

I was really disappointed with my experience here. I
My colorist recommended that I do foil highlights and some balayage. I was smart enough to ask how much extra that was going to cost, and once she went to check with the receptionist she let me know it was an extra $ 25. I’m a sucker so I went for it, and I’m not sure why it cost extra money when it really just meant that she used less foil by applying the color directly onto the top part of my hair for the balayage. Color turned out fine, nothing exceptional that I would rave to my friends about.
My hair stylist was kind, but was constantly pushing products on me even after I told her I don’t like using products other than shampoo and conditioner. It just felt like I was in a sales pitch the whole time. And she talked me into cutting an extra inch off on top of the first two inches and I’m curious if she did that just to be able to charge me the highest cost for a cut. It’s a blunt cut and I look like a soccer mom now.
Also, the cut and color took three hours! I got a partial blonde highlight and a cut, there was no reason for me to be sitting around for that long. Once I finally paid $ 265 (the most I’ve ever paid in my life) I then had to fight the receptionist to let me leave without rescheduling another appointment. Sorry but I knew within the first 2 hours & 5^th sales pitch for a $ 60 hair mask that I wouldn’t be returning.

I’ve been coming to MBird ever since it opened and have only had wonderful experiences every time I go in for a cut. I actually have been seeing Jen for 8 years, since her days at Ohm Salon in Venice, and HAD to follow her to MBird; she’s really that good! I’m a white guy with short hair, so I even go in for clean ups (no charge!) in between haircuts to keep it fresh.
Everyone in the salon is friendly and accommodating; there’s always cool new art on the walls and sometimes they even have their adorable dogs there too! Susannah at the front desk is awesome (ask her about her nail painting skills) and they are always fully stocked with beverages and snacks… definitely more saloon than salon as they say.
I would HIGHLY recommend MBird to anyone looking for a casual place for a haircut with top notch stylists. I even have a friend who lives on the east coast and makes an appt with Jen whenever she comes to LA for a visit.

Benedict Cumberbatch once said, «Pull the hair on my head the wrong way, and I would be on my knees begging for mercy. I have very sensitive follicles.» As someone who suffers from the same delicacy, I am happy to report to Benedict and all of you readers that this is the place for you.
Jen? Sarah? Lupe? TAKE YOUR PICK! A wash from ANY ONE of these ladies will transport you to another dimension! Nothing like coming in after a long day of work and traffic and having the hands of angels working shampoo and conditioner into your scalp. I once woke up two days later with the craziest chapped lips after a wash session it felt so good.
You want to talk about cut quality? How about showing Jen a picture of the Justin Bieber haircut you want, and leaving an hour later only to have paparazzi waiting for you. Amazing talent — and no it isn’t due to the $ 500 «clippers,» that’s just a bonus.
This «business» isn’t a business to me, it’s an extension of my living room with strangers hair on the ground. Ever since the first time I stepped foot inside M Bird I was greeted with kindness, attention, and care. Einstein the dog is my spirit animal, and Jen is my spirit human.
Oh, and don’t leave without booking your next appointment with Susannah — you can appreciate her always amazing nails while she does it!

Love this place! I’ve been coming here for over a year, I started coming because they use Davines products (amazing product line!!!), and started seeing Sarah and Lupe. Sarah is a genius with blondes and nails my color every time. Lupe is a great listener and my haircuts are always relaxing and awesome. The salon itself is soo cute and being greeted by Einstein the dog is always a bonus too, along with the beer and wine :)

The attention to customers is 5*, as you walk in, you are greeted kindly and with such care. The hair washing is done with love and tenderness, allowing you to relax before styling.
Staff are friendly, inviting and really listen to needs and requests. Having terribly long hair and a fear of cutting it short, managed to keep my unruly mane without losing length. Super happy with the cut and blow-​dry… Will be going again and again.
Thank you to the team and can’t wait for my next visit.

So sad, my favorite colorist and stylist Allison moved to The Compound a few blocks away. M bird was rude when I called and told me they wouldn’t say where she was. The only reason I went there was for her. The other people were not as nice or as good.

I have super curly hair and I went to Jen Bender last night for the first time. She is AMAZING! I was really nervous because there are a lot of stylists out there who totally eff it up when it comes to curly hair. Not Jen. She is awesome and knows exactly what she is doing. This place is great.

Great first visit! Jill at the front desk was friendly and helped me with product info at the end. Stephanie washed and deep conditioned my hair. She was very sweet and gives an amazing head massage! Jen was my stylist and she did a great job helping me figure out a plan for meeting my hair goals! Thanks ladies, I’ll be back for color next week with Sarah!

Jen’s cuts are wonderful and her blowouts last 6 days. Sarah is a MASTER of color. I go in every four weeks for roots and have had some fancy flamboyage highlights done as well. Her color is stunning, she’s meticulous. People can’t tell that I color my hair. It’s sort of amazing. I have really sensitive skin and both Sarah and Jen do too. They have good products that don’t irritate.

From the second I walked in the door I fell in love with M. Bird Studio. The staff is cute, fun, personable, and professional at the same time. When you walk in, you have this «awe» moment. The décor is straight out of a magazine, and from what I am told the art is always changing. This location is definitely on point. I have been getting my hair styled for years, but I can easily say Sarah is the best stylist I’ve ever encountered. I have extremely thick hair, and trusting a stylist for the first time is really difficult. Meeting Sarah was a breath of fresh air. She was confident and made sure we had the same vision before she even began mixing. My entire visit felt like I was in a 5 star spa, with a seasoned colorist. No one has ever gotten my color just right, but Sarah definitely did! I trusted my instinct with Sarah, and am happy to say that it was right. I will definitely be back to M. Bird Studios and I will no doubt have Sarah color my hair again!

I got my first haircut from Lupe way back when she was in hair school. I followed her to M Bird because she is awesome! I have curly/​wavy hair and a lot of it. Lupe does a wonderful job walking the line between the dreaded curly-​triangle and the dreaded too-​many-​layer cuts. She really listens to what I want and takes time to make it happen, plus she learns about my hair from cut to cut. My hair looks great every time I walk out of M Bird and lasts for months.
Free bang trims, cute doggies, and a beer during my cut sweeten the deal!!! Check it out!

The salon was very accommodating since I called the same day and was able to make an appointment!
I just got my haircut here yesterday with Lupe! She’s so freaking nice and I really liked that she was patient with me and walked me through my decisions (I wasn’t 100% sure what i wanted but i did bring in pictures and she nailed it!) She did a great job and I love my haircut! I would definitely recommend coming here.
I am only giving 4 stars because I was late by max of 10 minutes (I know that was my fault) but i called them and let them know. I was kinda bummed that the receptionist made it sound like it was impossible to take me on as a client if I was going to be any minute later since they had someone after me. I made it in time but I felt like I wasn’t that important. I just wish they wouldn’t make appointments so close together since my haircut appointment was running over so it felt a little rushed at the end. I’m a patient person so it wasn’t that big of a deal but thought it should be mentioned. :D

Technically slightly outside my budget, but I splurge on coming here, and it’s worth it. It’s important to me to have a great haircut/​color in a nice atmosphere, and M Bird gives me both.
The studio is beautiful, clean, and relaxing, and they change the art and furniture around regularly, so each time I go, the place feels fresh.
The staff and stylists are all friendly and sweet. I always get a cup of tea and play with Einstein the dog while I wait for my appointment to start, and it’s great.
I highly recommend M Bird!

I moved to LA three years ago and for the first year and a half, I’d wait to get a haircut until I could visit my old salon in Boston. Letting go is apparently not my thing. A coworker recommended M Bird Studio and I couldn’t be more pleased. I’ve been growing out my hair for a year and my cleanup trims have left my heat-​stressed tresses in great shape. Jen does a great job of understanding what my hair goals are and helps me get there!
I also had my hair with Jen and and makeup trial with Susannah Kent for my wedding here and got the princess treatment. I was so impressed that I schedule appointments for me and my MOH for the wedding day. We had such a great experience. The salon was really calm for a Saturday, which I appreciated-​I have never felt rushed through an appointment, and we got exactly what we wanted. The photos came out so beautiful. I can’t thank Jen and Susannah enough for their time, attention, and skills.

I love this place for color! Sarah is great at what she does; she knew exactly what to do despite my hair being challenging with color! Lupe and Sarah and the rest of the staff is also amazing and fun!

I came to this salon last week for a haircut on the recommendation of a friend and after seeing the glowing reviews here, I gave it a try.
The salon is extremely clean, there is ample street parking around the building, the décor was an eclectic mix of knick-​knacks considered «vintage,» and it’s brightly lit. They offer complimentary tea, coffee, and even cupcakes in pretty china as you wait for your appointment to begin. The front-​staff were pleasant, efficient, and friendly. There is a gentle dog by the name of Einstein owned by one of the staff who is very quiet and has a mild disposition; he seems to like to sit near the chairs or brush past you as you are sitting in the lounge area.
My stylist was reasonably competent, professional, and courteous. She did take the time to talk about my hair but I felt she did not pay attention when I directly asked her for the cut I wanted and pointed out photographs for reference. In the end, I thought my haircut was more than satisfactory but the styling component was flat, certainly not worth the price I paid. I honestly thought my hair looked identical to any other cut I could have gotten at Aveda or a comparable salon.
The major issue I had that dampened my experience was that my stylist employed a lot of passive-​aggressive sales tactics to persuade me to purchase their product line (Davines) that the salon endorses. Every so often, I would ask her a question about my hair and her replies would ALWAYS involve an advertisement.
For example:
Me: «Sometimes when I style my hair, it doesn’t always hold.»
Stylist: «Well it’s dependent on weather and temperature so the best thing you can do is putting the right products in your hair. My hair is very thick so I use Davine’s XYZ mist and hairspray… it’s amazing stuff. You should try it!»
I understand that it’s common for hair salons to advertise their products but I didn’t come here for an hour-​long session on how wonderful Davine is, I wanted a haircut and a blowout. Even when I wasn’t talking, she still would throw in a few lines about the product, which by the way, did very little.
Another issue is that this salon insists on taking your credit card to hold your reservation which I find unnecessary and pointless. For a high-​end restaurant or venue, I can understand, but a hair salon?
Clearly, I am in the minority of the reviewers for this salon and perhaps if I had a different stylist, I may have been happier with my experience but by and large, it was underwhelming. I was not won over but I was not horrified either.

I consider myself a pretty articulate person, but when I’m seated in a swivel chair at the hair salon: I’m often at a total loss for words. Despite my inability to communicate what I wanted, both Jen (the cut specialist) and Sarah (the color specialist) seemed to read my mind.
They delivered high quality results in a warm, friendly environment – the support staff is incredible: long head massages, tea, brownies, you name it.
Jen, Sarah, and Lupe have won me over!

Say they don’t get your message when you
call and cancel. Then when you call again for the fourth time to follow up they tell you that they are going to charge you the amount of your last appointment and that they have your card saved on file. My last hair experience there was awful even though the stylist is very nice which is why I wanted to cancel my appointment in the first place. Jen is the name of the woman who called me she kept telling me I sounded upset when I sounded the same the entire conversation; surprised. Very very very bad experience.
