BIG FUN utilizes a skilled pediatric occupational therapist team to create specialized activities for autistic children. Many of the programs are designed to provide social skills training for autism using recreational and therapeutic activities.

History

Established in 2001.

In 1999, Occupational Therapist Gene Hurwin combined his knowledge of pediatric development and 20 years of coaching expertise to create BIG FUN. Gymnastics was the unique tool Gene used to reach out to the special needs community, whose enthusiastic response led him to dedicate himself to expanding BIG FUN into a nationally recognized organization.

The aspiration of BIG FUN Therapy and Recreational Services is to use the gymnastics and pool environments as a tool to increase an individual’s potential to function at higher levels in their everyday lives. BIG FUN created a cutting edge method, which addresses sensory processing, motor planning, and organization of behavior as the means through which special needs children can feel competent and develop a sense of self-​esteem and achievement.
