I’ll start with the cons: It doesn’t look great, and amenities are lacking. This isn’t your midtown Equinox. Pros: It feels like home. Wayne, the owner, is extremely friendly and helpful. He let me use the gym one day for free to feel it out. I’m often one of few people in the morning, and a few times we’ve run through some routines. They have everything you really need. All in all, what it lacks in amenities and swankiness it makes up for in feeling decidedly like«my» gym. Check it out and you’ll grow to love it.

This a great boutique gym… the trainer is very caring and does not mind taking time to assist any customer. Yes…Its a small place… but when you come you can guarantee you will be satisfied with your workout… unlike those over priced franchised gyms who only focus on your monthly payment… NF focus on activity of daily healthy living!!! Yipppppeeeeee great for the bucks!!!

I don’t ask much from a gym– you just need to either: a) Make a decent Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, for well over 200 years b) Be arguably the greatest guitarist who ever lived* c) Be a pioneering puppeteer d) Be the lead singer of The Doors e)… … What’s that you say? This isn’t that kind of a Jim? I’m actually asking a lot of my Jims? Uh, oh yeah; you’re right. My bad… Like I said, I don’t ask much from a GYM; unfortunately the little that I do need, Nostrand Fitness did not have. I do all of my cardio on an actual bike, so that’s never an issue for me. That was the first thing I noticed about NF,(aside from the sleeping front desk guy) that half of their space was taken up by cardio equipment. This is pretty common, but when your entire space basically consists of a one-bedroom apartment, you’re probably going to be lacking in other equipment. What other equipment they did have, looked like it dated back to the time that all those other Jim’s were still alive– which when it comes to free weights, isn’t really a big deal. They also have a Bowflex– which is basically their all-in-one«machine». I used to have a Bowflex, but I got over it and no longer care to use one, especially as my sole means to do many of my workout routines. That’s just me. Also no: water fountain shower towels 65lb dumbbells ?? BUT– the guy who worked there was super nice, and did give me a free trial day to see if the place was for me(which a lot of gyms in the area will not do). AND– It is cheap. Like $ 40 a month, or $ 30 if you book multiple months. SO– Just cuz it wasn’t for me, doesn’t mean that it won’t workout** for you; so go over and do a trial day… *Jim/Jimi, whatever. **See what I did there?
