Ray’s Donuts

Stopped here again for a quick dozen to take into a meeting… it’s such a delight to have friendly, smiling service! Donuts here are fresh and tasty and ALWAYS a big hit with my clients. Love coming here and I’ll be back again soon.

Found this place on my route to work. Wanted to pick up a couple dozen to bring in. I initially, the woman at the counter was incredibly friendly and helpful. I got 2 dozen of the Managers Special (6 specialty donuts and 6 regular), and told her I trusted her judgment on the selection. They were about $ 32 for the 2 dozen. A little on the pricey side, but not horrible.
I love donuts, and wow, were these phenomenal! Very soft and doughy. Almost undercooked, which is perfect in my opinion. Cannot wait for another excuse to come back!

Best donut shop around. I’ve been here about a dozen times. Employees — especially Felicia– always upbeat and friendly. Donuts are huge, fresh and not too sweet. No trendy stuff, just good basic donuts and coffee. Great selection and shop is always clean.

The doughnuts might be ok if they weren’t a few days old. These were extremely stale, I don’t even know how you keep these in the case. I would have asked for new ones if I stayed there to eat them. On top of that, she put 2 of the wrong ones in the bag. I don’t even know how that mix up happens. Maybe there were different ones at the back of the tray? Either way I didn’t catch it until we were home. Never going back, that’s for sure. Plenty of other much better places to choose from. I don’t know how anyone could go higher than 3 stars. (The Brentwood location is not much better).

Just went today at 6am and donuts were great. Not the cheapest donuts in the world but definitely reasonable.
Someone complaining about the shape of the donuts not all being identical. Are you kidding me? So they aren’t made by a machine… Didn’t know hand made was a bad thing. I had a chocolate long john and an apple fritter. Large donuts. Not quite too large but close.
People giving a one star because they looked bad because shapes were uneven or throw them out after one bite because they don’t want to waste their calories. What donut snobs, go to Starbucks and get one of your 600 calorie mocha lattes because you normally don’t eat breakfast because your on a diet all the time.
I’ll eat these donuts when I’m in the area. Then, I can outwork my guilt in the gym later. Keep up the good work!
Anyone giving these a one star are obviously miserable people or friends and family of a competitor.

Great assortment available and the little ones will be happy with this fancy box. I had samples in the store of blueberry and pumpkin that were excellent. Service was fast & friendly too. Great experience.

Well, I’m at Ray’s again today. The donuts look horrible. I’m not sure how they taste but the way they look, I definitely wouldn’t try them. They are inconsistently shaped and the frosting is awful. Some of the rings have no holes or are totally closed by the sprinkles or the frosting. The shape of the rings is not round. I was told the donuts are hard. The owner needs to fire the bakers and the general manager. It is obvious the GM doesn’t know what she is doing since she doesn’t manage the bakers, which is evidenced by the quality of the donuts. The Olive Blvd location is a great place and Felicia does an outstanding job. The owner needs to hold her other employees accountable for their work so that she can once again give her customers a quality and consistent product.

Love this place. The service is so cheery for six in the morning. The chocolate glazed old fashions are my favorite. And with a travel mug, coffee is only .89!

Ridiculously great service, tasty cherry cake donuts and maple glazed bars. Mmmmmmmmm. Coffee amazing too.

Ok so here’s the deal these are the best doughnuts you will ever eat in your life. When these meet your taste buds and they do the taste tango your life will forever be changed, for the better. Until you move like I did and you still miss the things a year later.

Just around town in the morning and decided to get some donuts. Nice staff and the donuts were pretty good.

Not a fan, Sorry Ray. ANY donut when compared to Tony’s Donuts IS going to fall short… but these are just a flat out pass. On top of it I have also had Donut Drive In donuts in the past few weeks so my donut bar is set very high.
I ordered three donuts and dislike them all. I had to taste each one because they were not good. (I had planned in freezing one or two– instead threw them all out).
In my order I had a maple long john, chocolate long john with white icing inside, and a cake donut with sprinkles. I took two bites of the Maple Long John-​nope– not gonna waste another calorie on that…
Tried a bite of the other two, NOT GOOD.
If I am gonna use up calories on donuts they better be SOFT and FRESH, these were anything but.
I suppose the cake donut was the «best» of the worst…
This makes me want a salad.

Rays is one of my favorite trad donut spots in Saint Louis. Always great donuts, convenient bright clean location, and friendly service are a great combination but there’s one flaw in this equation, their prices are too high and are the sole reason for the 4, and not 5 star review.
I’m not generally one to gripe about prices, I’m a believer that when patronizing a business (unless it’s a bargaining approved setting) it costs what it costs. I’m well aware that there are some places in this world that are just out of my budget feasibility scale, and I’m ok with that!
Donuts however, especially standard, non-​specialty, dare I say run of the mill donuts (as admittedly tasty and great as Ray’s are) should be set below a certain «everyman» sort of price. Now I have no idea what the various ingredients/​prices in donut making might be but the $ 26 I just spent on 14 donuts is a little excessive. I suspect their location and associated leasing expense have a lot to do with Rays pricing. I just hope this otherwise solid, dependable, local shop doesn’t price themselves out of competitiveness.
If things remain the same in the pricing at Ray’s, I’ll be back because I like them and what they do, but it’ll definitely be relegated to only occasional treats for co-​workers, etc.

Went this morning and had an odd experience. There was a huge selection of donuts and they are always fresh and delicious. The donuts were good. I ordered 7 and it was $ 10. One of the donuts was the wrong one. I ordered chocolate with chocolate iced and got the chocolate glazed.
The have a chocolate long john with custard filing that is awesome and I haven’t seen that anywhere else.
This morning I was the only one in the shop with the employee. He was filling my order when someone walks in and says something and puts money on the counter. The someone was wearing a button down long sleeved shirt and looked like a professional. Note I was also wearing a button down long sleeved shirt so I wasn’t wearing my normal shorts and tshirt. The employee immediately stopped working on my order and moved to ring up other guy. Maybe he was in a hurry. Maybe he was late for work. But maybe I was too. Then when employee returned to me he forgot what I requested and I had to repeat. I don’t know if this is typical customer service but I found it weird and a bit rude/​disrespectful. The employee didn’t even explain why he bumped me down the priority line when the other person entered and he didn’t greet the person by name so not sure if he was a regular customer or not.
While I like this place and have been many times, I think I may just pass and go to another place for donuts.

Everytime I come to visit I always get greeted with a smile and recieve friendly service. The donuts are delicious everytime I go. The prices are not bad either. ¹⁰⁄₁₀

These people are not playin’!!! The donuts are ginormous, and they are so fresh and tasty!!! They had a great selection, also. We ordered a Chocolate long John, a vanilla long John, a pumpkin spice cake donut, and donut holes. I am picky when it comes to donuts and I was impressed! Not to mention, all the employees there were super polite, friendly, and pleasant! We will definitely be coming back here soon!!!

Exceptional donuts, relatively convenient location and friendly service. All of that does come at a price though — they are expensive…
The chocolate long john I ate was one of the best I’ve ever had. The icing was perfect: rich, creamy and devoid of the graininess seen in lesser places. The manager’s assorted dozens that I bought were very well received by my customers.
Note: they appear to only have one person working at a time so you may wind up waiting a bit for your yummies if there is a line when you walk in.

Boyfriend bought home a dozen donuts last weekend when some family was in town. I loooooove cake donuts. Their blueberry cake donut was my favorite although I loved the sprinkle donut too.
We went again today to grab a donut this morning. I got a chocolate long john which was just delicious. BF had a cinnamon sugar donut OMG delicious! I hope next time they have the apple fritter donuts because that sounds amazing.
I heard the lady working the register say that they bake everything fresh each AM so when a donut runs out, it’s out for the day. Definitely appreciate the freshness!

As stated in my previous review, I got to stop by Ray’s for a treat today after my Shelby had her Senior Wellness appointment at the vet. Today the place was hustling and bustling with blue collar workers, west county ladies and medical office personnel and only one worker. However, everyone was patient and courteous, because the lady working was working as fast as she could and was charming everyone with bubbly personality.
Today I was thrilled to see a tray half full of my favorite, The Donut Hole. No waste here, if Ray’s holes taste this yummy and sweet I can only imagine how fantastic his glazed donuts are. Shelby enjoyed a couple of the holes, since she was a good girl at the vet.
The BF likes Apple Fritters and the ones on display were HUGE, so I had to get one to take home. When I got home, I tasted a small piece of the Apple Fritter and said the classic words out loud, «Oh, my God». I have tasted many a apple fritters in the city, but this county fritter was the best of the lot. It was filled with large pieces of diced apple, deep fried the glazed with sweetness. If I were judging at the state or county fair and it was an entry, it definitely would win the blue ribbon.
With three dogs, I am looking forward to the next vet appointment so I can stop by Ray’s again.

Sometimes you just want to have a donut. Forget the bagel or the pastry or the pop tart. Lucky for me I saw this store front wedged in between a massage place and a Coldstone Creamery.
Stopping in served as a perfect pick me up for an anticipated long boring morning. They also have decent coffee to boot! The selection was actually very good and the price was what you would expect from a donut shop. The more you order the cheaper it gets. My favorite was the Maple flavored donut. You have to try this one!
They do have a frequent buyer’s program for both their coffee and their donuts so remember to ask about it when you stop in.
This place just opened up recently, but I know there are other Ray’s locations in the city.
I didn’t notice any ovens in the store so I suspect the make their donuts at a central location and then ship them out to their stores to sell. The person working the counter was very pleasant and chatty.
Overall I had a very enjoyable experience and will stop in again when I get the craving. With the recent health kick sweeping the nation I hope they still do well.
