The Sunflower

We had lunch here. They serve breakfast all day and they have a nice patio out back that was shaded. We had the reuben and the pot pie. Both were excellent. When we came here at around noon, they were all out of croissants, so to me that says their crossants must be really good even though I did not have any.

We used to love this place and their food. It’s been a couple years since we’ve been back and we were disappointed. The food quality wasn’t as good as we remembered. The first day they were out of everything I wanted, second day the chicken was really tough. The chicken and dill sandwich tastes nothing like dill. The side salad is an upgrade (extra fee) and it was just lettuce with dressing. The hummus plate looked promising but the hummus was really dry and had no flavor. And to top it all off the food was really overpriced. $ 25 at lunch for a sandwich, salad & hummus is ridiculous. There were 2 – 3 wait staff there but I had to hunt down the waitress every time. It also took so long to get the check and pay we ended up taking it to the front ourselves.

Based on the reviews, the menu, and the focus on locally sourced food, I was pretty excited to try this place, but it was a disappointment. I ordered the eggs benedict, and they came out lukewarm and with hard yolks. I asked for a redo, but the same thing happened the second time. Since my husband was nearly finished his meal, I decided to keep quiet and just eat it anyway. The woman who cleared our table asked how everything was (she seemed like a manager), so I told her about the problem with the eggs. She told me that they don’t cook the eggs to order for benedict, so I should probably just order them fried if I want to make sure the yoke is as it should be. Call me crazy, but if you’re not able to poach eggs to order, you probably shouldn’t have them your menu. They comped us on our tea, which was nice, but then they made mistakes with the to-​go portion of our order. We had some other gripes as well – toasted bagel was cold, they subbed spinach for arugula on both plates without telling us beforehand, small portion sizes – but the eggs were the big problem.

Lunch was fabulous, we had great service, and wonderful food. We loved the kids menu options and the special touches of house made items like potato chips! Sunflower is a real gem.

Yum! Loved my potato leek soup, chicken dill sandwich and chips! Great service and a filling, tasty lunch with a cute atmosphere.

Wow… Impeccable food, impeccable atmosphere, impeccable food. You would be missing out if you did not come here.

Exactly what we were looking for. Breakfast in a cool local place. Breakfast sandwich was perfect.

Lots of the reviews have pictures of lunch, but breakfast is spectacular! The eggs benedict is amazing. The breakfast sandwiches out of this world. And a breakfast burrito is great. You can order takeout, if you are in a hurry. Robin is amazing as the manager and this is a cozy, warm place to be. One of the servers is brusque, but everything else was A+.

The sunflower is a bitter and wilted flower.
Our server was such a passive aggressive sour-​puss, that it verged on being hilarious! Definitely in the top 5 of worst customer service experiences.
To top it off: the food, while good and flavorful, came in miniature portions. The main entrees were of appetizer proportion and significantly overpriced as a result.

I’m so glad that I stumbled in here during my weekend trip to CB! The service was quick and friendly and the food was definitely something to write home about. The eggs Benedict with lox was soooo good and so was the breakfast sandwich. Awesome atmosphere and the perfect little spot to start the day!

The food is so fresh and local. All the farms where their food comes from is listed by each farm, which is a nice touch. I ordered the eggs benny with bacon and a side of Chipotle potatoes. My boyfriend ordered the eggs Benedict with lox and everything was so good. I would definitely come here again. The décor is super cute and hipsterish! Also, full bar as well.

Only open 9 – 2 in the off season – no way to know til you get there and go up to the door and look at the handwritten note

I really loved this place. A true crested butte gem. The feel is homey and comfortable, and the servers are super friendly.
I’ve actually recreated the Benedict that I ate there at home… You know what they say – imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. A delightful Benedict with a lemony hollandaise and wilted arugula – fantastic!
The husband had the biscuits and gravy, and was blown away. I can’t believe it was vegetarian. It was so chock full of herbs and flavor that you’d never know the difference.
Please stop by if you’re in town. You won’t be disappointed.

Incredible service and a very nice atmosphere. The server was very nice and the food was good. The only problem I had with this café was that it was so expensive! By the time I finished my biscuits and gravy the check was $ 50! But them were some good biscuits!

Excellent dining experience!
Our waiter Nick was great and very helpful making choices. We had a great Malbec wine first.
Then We enjoyed 2 soups, 2 salads, 2 small plates & dessert.
My husband and I shared all the courses. Both of the soups were excellent. The salad with figs and dressing with a little kick was very nice.
My husband liked the meatballs, but the bolognese with pasta was the best! I’m so glad we didn’t skip dessert… it was excellent… cherry tart with a little ice cream on top! Very nice restaurant with a new menu everyday and many ingredients from local farmers.
Be sure to eat dinner here if you’re in the Crested Butte area!

It had been years since I visited Paradise. In this new spot, I didn’t think much about it but I was encouraged to try the brunch. I’m glad I did.
Their brunch on Sunday is really good. They offer really good Bloody Marys with some bloody good bacon if you want it. Everything I sampled was darn nice.
My recommendation is that you get there early. There isn’t a lot of seating, but there is a lot of interest. Expect a wait if you don’t get out of bed before 11:00.

The morning breakfast was great… But it was pulling teeth to get coffee that was ordered and seemed a little pricey. Again breakfast food was good.
Evening meal was fantastic. I give that a five stars. Pricey but well worth it. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

My first impression when walking inside: A small restaurant with a charming rustic atmosphere.
Having driven in from Denver and munching on road trips snacks the whole way there my boyfriend and I were looking for some real food. After reading the Unilocal reviews we decided to try it out.
When we stepped inside we were greeted by a host, Nick (I think), who ended up also being the server. He led us straight to a table and explained the restaurant concept and how the menu was laid out. Throughout the meal he checked in on us and really cared about what we thought of our dishes. It made the whole experience very enjoyable.
We decided to start by sharing a tomato soup, their soup of the day, and a half salad. I would recommend if you are sharing the soup to do a full portion. The half portion was too small for two but we really enjoyed it.
The menu for entrees is divided into two sections where you can order small plates and share or a larger portion for yourself. We decided to order for the sharing side. For our main dishes we enjoyed the oysters, the lamb and one other dish which is escaping my memory. They were all delicious.
We ended our meal with the flan dessert. YUM! Definitely a good choice, and it came with biscotti which was great to have some crunch with the creaminess.
A memorable meal and a great first impression of Crested Butte.
