This place went downhill over 2 years ago. Went from a family atmosphere to wannabe bikers, and rude hipsters. It also became booze and bands in a dirty hot old warehouse. Food and staff nothing like it once was. Took some time, but finally gone. What a shame, caused by irresponsible kids and society rejects who will never know or even care what they have done. They will move on to the next nice place to continue their parasitic behavior. Nice places take hard work. When the lazys show up, get rid of them.

Best beef fajitas I ever ate. Their flour tortillas were delicious. Sad to see it gone but the food got very pricy.

This place is CLOSED! To be honest, the best part about it was the large dining room, stage, and the booze. The food was average at best. Having been to places like Austin, Lockhart, and San Antonio, to me there was no way this place was even remotely as good. Hope it re-opens as a live music venue.

One of my favorite restaurants. Best place I know for TexMex style food. The fajitas are amazing

I really wanted to like this place, as I walked in it looked like a fun place to have bbq. Although that may be true the bbq itself was tough, dry and grisly and no amount of sauce I put on it could save it.

Shitty place to eat. Service sucks balls. I should have gone to Taco Bell. The place is dirty food is bad. Had to send my plate back twice and after that I just ordered another plate that was also burnt . Also my waitress was a bitch and she knew it.

The city of Covina hosts this parasite of a place. The first major issue is the lack of air conditioning, saying it is hot is an understatement No industrial fans not even any open space inside to catch a breeze unless you are willing to suffer in the smoking area patio to cool off with the linger of second hand smoke in your face In the handful of times I have been there the bathrooms are dirty and never have toilet paper or hand soap. The line for drinks is very long and that is always the case Not somewhere I would recommend or return to again

I was so disappointed in this place. Went to a show there 7−26−14. This place had NO air conditioning. How can you have a concert with a r restaurant full of people without air conditioning? The food was okay, but I will NEVER be back. Fix your air conditioning!

So sad! We have been coming here as a family for over 10 years. This place has gone completely downhill this year. New cashiers/order takers are rude and rarely get orders right. Today, I called in my order and when my friend went to pick up it still took another 40 minutes. What’s the point of calling in? And, when they called him it was plated not bagged to go. Really? While my friend was there a woman walked by him and said she would never come back. Mind you, there were two people eating in the restaurant. Two! Terrible service. Regrettably I will not be coming back either.

I was going to go to Nick’s Taste of Texas first, but I walked a couple of blocks south to El Matador where I enjoyed my meal. After reading Unilocal’s reviews on my not-so-called-smart-phone, the latest reviews in general did not seem to give Nick’s very good comments, many recent ones seemed to be one-star.(I know there are bad days and everyone has different tastes and expectations.) I decided to look in since it was close to where I was getting work done on my car and it seemed the nearest place for a small lunch. I did go in to look with the idea of getting a bite to eat anyway. There were several cars in the lot thinking it would not be that bad, but after walking in and looking around, I was under-impressed and left. I cannot comment on the food, only that I was turned-off with the place and lack of a simple sign telling me where to go(I knew I had to order my meal like at a fast food joint) or be seated. Although the place was large, like I remember many years ago when I did live in Texas, the lack of customers in a large room seemed cold and unfriendly. The mirror(s) on the south wall exaggerated this feeling. The one star rating only reflects that I did not feel comfortable when I walked inside and spent a minute or two looking around. The one person behind a high counter did not even say anything about where to go.

Dirty tables and cheap plastic table cloths tht don’t cover the table. Not enough help. Bartender is also busboy but only has time to bartend. Customers were trying to clean tables to sit at. Flies flying around. cooks in the back have no hair nets men and women. That can’t be good. This owner is cheap and needs to put money back into this place… they have great food but I highly recommend it should be taken out not eaten in diner…

This place is consistently slow, consistently has an odd odor and sometimes has great food. I have been coming here for about 14 yrs. The food use to be excellent but as the years have gone by the owners appear to be more concerned about having local bands here than the quality of the food and how their establishment looks. I like the majority of the soft tacos they have. I also enjoy the fajitas and the salsa. Hopefully you come on a day where the food tastes like it use to… Good Luck

Well. Came here for some authentic TeX mex food. It’s always been over priced here but we have little to no choices for TeX mex food in this area… the old spot was great but ever since the original owner passed… they did not honor his legacy with the new location. No customer service. plastic forks… Pick up your own food .no more delicious salsa in bottles. On this cold semi rainy day they had the front door open and it feels like 40° in here. No carpet in this converted warehouse. The restaurants in Texas put this place to shame. It’s really sad and with only a couple of customers I wonder how much longer this place will survive. They definitely need a restaurant makeover!!!

I went here to have my lunch with my family on feb 9th, 2014. We used to come here all the time when I lived in West Covina. This place needs a «Resturant Impossible» redo ASAP. The chairs are inconsistent, old and remind me of pic & save. There is no customer service, or waitress in this restaurant. I remember when the waitress would tell where to sit, ask you how your meal was, and bring the meals to your tables. I also remember how great the atmosphere was at the old location; When you walked in, you smelled the food immediately, and you couldn’t wait to eat. When I was there, I couldn’t wait to LEAVE. Now the customers have to pick up their own food, and plates themselves. Are you kidding me?! This isn’t king taco, this is a freakin«Texas style» restaurant! Our family wasn’t given silverware. We had to eat our meal(the family deal $ 45) using plastic forks?! Seriously, how cheap is this place? The food has suffered from the lack of management as well. The meat comes out burnt, and I could get better rice at ‘el pollo loco’. Do your self a HUGE favor, and save the money! Go elsewhere. anywhere else. ZEROSTARS!

Service was TERRIBLE!!! there were only 2 of us and we both ordered the fajitas and shared a small bowl of chili and we seriously waited 32 min to get our food!!! The food was good, don’t get me wrong, but I will not go back, refuse to wait 30 min for an over priced meal! The only reason this has 2 stars is because yes, the food is good! So sad the staff is just so terrible

I love this place!!! Been going here since their old location over on Azusa. Best flour tortillas I have ever had other than my Nana’s home made tortillas. I think they make them fresh daily. Also fantastic lunch special with 2 tacos(the steak fajita and BBQ brisket are my favs) with 2 sides for like $ 7. Probably my favorite place to eat in the Covina/Glendora area

Came here for their taco lunch special($ 7). You get two tacos, two sides, and a drink. For the tacos, there are different types to choose from. While the bbq brisket was good, it was kind of strange to eat it in a taco. Failed tex-mex fusion there. However, I really found myself to enjoy the fajita taco. The meat is vinegar-brined so if you don’t like that kind of sour flavor, don’t order it. The meat was tender and the generous amount of guacomole they put in brings everything together. I recommend you double up on the fajita(if it’s your thing) and call it a day. I won’t mention the sides because the beans were nasty and the salad was standard. 3 stars.

Taste of Texas used to be my favorite restaurant. Ever. I would kill for their Fajita Tacos and would preach to everyone I knew about them. My family had been coming here for 20+ years and up until 5 or 6 years ago they were still the best I’d found anywhere. Unfortunately, something seems to have changed in the culture Nick founded all those years back. The rice and beans aren’t really flavorful and while the tortillas are still among the best you’ll find the meats aren’t really juicy anymore. You find yourself noticing that the extras on the burrito are whats giving it the flavor, not the main ingredients. This placed used to be the King of food, let along the King of Tex-Mex. Now I don’t know what to think of it. I’ll still stop in every so often for their Fajita Tacos and the BBQ Beef Tacos since they’re a nostalgic favorite for me but each new bite only reminds more of what used to be.

I have a couple of friends who are from Texas and who live in Texas and since I am not there to try the real deal in Texas BBQ, Nick’s would have to do until I get my ass over to the red state. I ordered the Resendez Combo, which comes with brisket, polish sausage, and one beef rib. The meats are smothered in BBQ sauce on a bed of mojo potatoes, with a lettuce salad, boracho beans, and some tortillas. It was an okay meal, nothing special. I had to test the waters, so that’s why I got the platter. The beef rib was garbage. It was dry and overcooked and had no meat on the bone at all. The polish sausage and brisket were great, though. I made a taco out those with the flour tortillas that were provided. We also had some chips and salsa. The joint is pretty big and they have live bands and it looked like they were setting up for tonight’s show. Service is a bit weird in that you order the food up at the counter and then when they call your number you go over and pick it up. If that’s the case then I wonder why they have the tip jar and tip option on a receipt if I have to do all the work myself? Granted, I still tipped, but then I wondered if I even should have. I’ll give them another chance, because the brisket was the bomb. I need a mound of it next time.

Came here for lunch and ordered the Resendez combo, which was worth it IMO. BBQ tasted good and sauce just slightly tangy and you get a whole lot for the price. I believe it comes with one beef rib, one slice of brisket, and one polish sausage with beans, salad, potatoes, and tortillas all on the side. Wow the warm tortillas were so fresh and tasted good just on its own. I’d definitely come back for lunch again. Forgot to mention, bathrooms definitely need some work and a fresh air freshener.
