South West Health Spine & Sport is a multidisciplinary sports medicine practice. We treat acute sports injuries both in the field of sport and in the office. Dr. Zappala is a member of the National Concussion Registry and holds the highest level of training in sports medicine avaIlable to chiropractors in the country. We also screen young athletes looking for holes in their game that might predispose them to injury. We care for all athletes and artists from PGA tour players to prima ballerinas and everyone in between. Partner with us today to help take your game to the next level.

History

Established in 1994.

South West Health started out in a small 1600 square foot building with 2 doctors and a therapist in 1994. We outgrew that space by 1999 and started looking for places to expand. In July of 1999, South West Health became South West Health Professional Center, a multi-​disciplinary wellness center. In 2014, Dr. Zappala became an elite level sports medicine professional professional in the field of chiropractic and South West Health Spine & SPort was born. We are a multidisciplinary sports medicine practice treating everything from sprained ankles to concussions.

Dr. Z and the lady at front desk with the gorgeous ring and pretty nails (Diane) are the best! Jose & other lady are great masseuse ! My husband and I got rear ended by a drunk driver. I was in so much pain, in tears, unbearable, muscle spasms, on pain killers & could not function or sleep.
Dr Z. Used his magic on me and I feel like a million dollars! Thank you Dan Carlton for the referral ! I am no longer suffering in horrific and agonizing pain! I sleep better at night which is awesome!

Dr. Joe zappala works his magic like non other.
I can’t even begin to explain how good this guy is. I had been living with so many aches and pains for about four years.
In just three very personalized visits he set and adjusted an old separated shoulder injury and healed my problems.
He also helped a very bad knot with my IT band.
Seriously he is the best. Only 300 professionals like him exist and I am so thankful he is in my area.

South West Health is a superb center for improving your health. I have been visiting for over two years and am always impressed by the wealth of knowledge provided to me. Dr. Z, Dr. Jessie and Dr. G all provide a functional approach to chiropractic care. They focus on identifying the root cause of injuries. Rather than just working on the symptoms, they want to solve the source of pain and misalignment. This center also provides services such as therapeutic massage, acupuncture, nutrition and personal training. It is a great health center that is easy to reach from the 55, 405, 73 and 5 freeways.

Unfortunately I had nothing but problems from the start with this facility. I was recommended to Dr. Z. but ending up seeing the woman Dr. because she was supposedly «in-​network» with my insurance company. I traveled all the way from SJC and was not even adjusted, I had made an appointment with the massage therapist back to back so my adjustment would be easier and the Dr. told me she could not adjust me because of the massage? I was not told of any fees except the massage fee, I paid this then was x-​rayed and given an appointment for the following week. At this appointment I was given a paper with fees for non insurance and I did get an adjustment, I paid for the adjustment and was told I owed $ 300 for the x-​rays. I would not recommend this facility because of the lack of communication. Jose was GREAT I would highly recommend him for a massage.

Dr. Z and staff have been caring for me for the last 9 years. His honest, un-​selfish approach toward his clients is really refreshing. He always provides extra advice, exercises and an encouraging word, along with his comment: «If you don’t want to be my client for the rest of your life, then do the exercises»! And they are always exercises you can do from home. My personal experience has been incredible. Several years ago, around October 2010, I was having neck pain that turned into radiating pain down my left arm. I went in on a Monday morning and Dr. Z said that I would need an MRI. Tuesday morning I had my MRI and by Tuesday evening, Dr. Z called me at home to tell me that he knew what it was and he could fix it. I went in the next day, on Wednesday, to begin my decompression treatment. The MRI diagnosed a herniated disc and a bulging disc stacked on top of one another. I was loosing feeling in my left hand and was incredibly miserable. The pain NEVER went away. It was constant for 24 hours. I couldn’t sleep or carry on a conversation. After the first week, I had no more pain running down my left arm. It was incredible. I think the greatest blessing though was that I never had to have surgery as is the common cure for my issue. It’s been 4 years and the pain has never returned. I have referred many patients to Dr. Z and continue to. You immediately feel welcomed when you arrive and are amazed when he knows «where it hurts» before you tell him. His experience and education are top notch. Give him a try, he will make a believer out of you.

South West Health Chiropractic Center is a really nice facility, and I highly recommend Dr G. I have had a lot of issues with low-​back pain and sciatica, and Dr G has kept me running marathons without needing to take time off. She has a gentle touch that is both relaxing and effective. She also has machines such as ultrasound and muscle stimulation that are very helpful in conjunction with her chiropractic adjustments. I always feel so relaxed when I leave her office.

I just got back from a run. I’m 3 minutes shy of my personal best time for 3 miles. And my personal best was before I hurt my back about 6 months ago. All to say, I’m nearly back. It took about 8 visits to Dr. Pamela Galambos (Dr. G) of Southwest Health Chriopractic Center.
Before the treatments – adjustments, massage and muscle stimulation – I couldn’t sit or sleep without pain. After the 4th visit, I started feeling better and my back started to relax. After the 8th visit, I could walk long distance and started running – about a mile to start.
I’m about 95% fixed – still a little pain but it goes away after about 5 minutes of stretching. All to say, Dr. G is worth the visits. It’s totally affordable, especially when you consider you won’t get any work done when you’re in pain and in my case, I gained 10 pounds due to inactivity. Dr. G also saved me about $ 600 by convincing me to forego an MRI until the chriopractic work had a chance to do the trick.
So now, 5 months after my first visit to Dr. G, I’m back down to my normal weight and I’m chipping away at my best 3-​mile time. See Dr. G – she will fix you!
