History

Established in 1984.

In 1984 Phil Carter purchased ‘The Ski Store” a family owned business located in Costa Mesa, California from the Dase family. His immediate focus was becoming the highest customer service focused Ski company in Orange County. At the time there were several large Big Box stores that also carried ski & snowboard equipment but lacked in the customer service. Phil soon earned a reputation for his knowledge and customer care. Once the service was in place he focused on providing the highest quality ski and snowboard equipment. He began only carrying the best brand names available which is still his trademark today. He works closely with the reps for Capita/​Union, K2, Rossignol, Armada, Niche, Salomon and others in staying ahead of the technological curve on all equipment. Today Phil’s Ski and Snowboard offer the only computerized binding calibrator in Orange County. Fun & safety always go hand in hand at Phil’s Ski & Snowboard.

Phil Carter has been in the skiing & snowboarding business for over 30 years. In college, he began working in ski & snowboard shop where he learned everything he knows about the sport. He bought the shop over 30 years ago & has been running it ever since. In 2002, Phil contracted a flu shot-​related illness leaving him paralyzed. He was in a coma for 3 ½ months. When he woke up, he had to learn how to walk, talk, ski, & snowboard again. Phil did not let this situation get him down. He believes God has a reason for everything. Phil & his wife, Nicole, have two sons. They have been involved in The Crossing church in Costa Mesa for many years. Phil is passionate about his job and strives to keep the store family and community oriented. Each year, Phil donates a snowboard to The Crossing’s Recovery Program and High School Youth Group, he donates gift cards to local school’s silent auctions each year. This last year, funds from the store, helped fund a mission’s trip Nicole took to Uganda
