I didn’t check their hours I just came by with my mother to get a new violin bow and they were so kind to help us out even though they technically weren’t open.
I’m pretty novice when it comes to violins and bows and I admit a little shy when it comes to asking for help. They gave me quite a range of violin bows to check out and play with my violin. They were so helpful and encouraging even when I told them about myself. Thanks so much for everything!

We have purchased two violas from this family run business over the past two years and could not be more satisfied with their professional service. They are very knowledgable about string instruments and care deeply about their reputation and providing customers with valuable service and guidance. The perfect store for beginners through to accomplished musicians.

Multiple violin students have rented instruments and purchased instruments from them and I have been very pleased with the quality as well as the price.
I had my cello end pin repaired here and it was quick and easy (even though he grumbled about the quality of the instrument — unfortunately all I can afford at the present time is a junky ebay cello).
Recently I had my viola bow re-​haired and they did a great job on that as well.
My only complaint would be their hours as they overlap with my work hours most days (it took me over a year to find time to actually go there when they were open), but that is to be expected for a smaller shop.

My violin has been repaired only by the Weisshaar family since 1963. Hans, the father, since passed on, wrote a veritable bible of violin repair, and was very demanding about quality work. He apprenticed in Mittenwald, and after coming to America, he worked for the Sacconis. He started the west coast shop in the late 40s. When my violin came to Hans, the bouts had come unglued, the button pin had twisted the end block, and it was missing 3 original pegs, which were ruined from water damage. He fixed it all within the week. After Hans took my violin, He played a joke on me. While he chatted with my teacher, whom he’d known for several years, he gave me an ugly black violin and told me to take it in the other room and play. Afterward, he asked, «How was it?» I gave a kid’s answer. I said, «It’s OK». Hans said, «It’s a _​_​_​_​_​Guaneri». I think Pietro. Anyway, I almost dropped it from fear. He laughed and took it from my shaking hands. He even offered me a sip of beer. I said, «Naw, that’s OK». He laughed again. After Hans, only Michael and Rena have worked on my fiddle. I have absolute confidence in their craftsmanship, and they are fair. You’ll get a top-​notch job. I don’t know Daniel, but he’s a Weisshaar, isn’t he? All in all over the years, I’ve had a new soundpost, the bass bar was replaced, Rena crafted a bridge to fit my low fingerboard, I’ve had the fingerboard planed a few times — all excellent work. She makes fine quality violins too, if she’s not retired yet.

This is a the best shop in Orange County for string instruments. Period. The Weisshaar family has owned this shop for years and the services they provide are top notch across the board. They offer superior rentals and will help match students to the most suitable instrument. They have great teacher referrals, and a very good selection of violins for sale. I referred a friend who moved to So-​Cal from Atlanta who is really into American fiddle and old-​timey music. He was blown away by Dan’s expertise, and won’t take his baby anywhere else. This is the type of shop you would expect to see in an art-​movie. When you walk in, there is the comforting smell of varnish and rosin. There is a bulletin board in the foyer posted with local events and there are violins hanging from the ceiling. You can, of course, play different instruments or try different bows in a separate room. The Weisshaars themselves are super friendly and down to earth. Everyone I know, from beginning students, to a friend who plays in the first violin section with the PSO thinks highly of them. So, if you need new strings, or if your sound post has fallen or whatever, just go into the shop and get to know them. Even if you didn’t buy or rent your instrument from them, it’s really worth your while to do business with them.

I brought my violin for string adjustment late last year. Since I’m an adult learner, Michael suggested to install 4 fine tuners. He even put a tiny leather on the bridge so I won’t keep hitting 2 strings at a time. The price is so reasonable, how I wished I bought my student violin from them. Excellent service.

I simply had to put my 2 cents on the table after having an amazing experience there yesterday. I have always loved everyone there, but yesterday they were truly exemplars of outstanding customer service.
It will suffice to say that after having more than one issue with a string purchase I made, they gave me a complete set of new strings to compensate me for my trouble, even though one of the issues may have been due to a personal error. This went above and beyond any service I have ever received in a store before, let alone a violin store. I thank them very much and cannot recommend them enough! Though their hours are difficult, it is worth it to expend the effort to fit into their schedule.
As a side note, they do not carry sheet music anymore, which is a slight downside.

This violin shop, by far, is the best violin shop in the area. Being an advanced player now, I had to say goodbye to my Yamaha violin and start searching for a place that specializes on strings instruments ONLY. So I found this place on Unilocal,having the highest rating, and decided to check it out. When I walked in, I immediately fell in love with the place. There are violins hanging at the tops of the walls, booking and cello cases by the door, and my favorite, a violin room. The one thing I love about this place is that the family working here know what they’re doing and make sure that the instrument you pick the right one for you. Unlike general music stores, the shop workers only know that basic information about each instrument and don’t really take the time to find the right instrument for you. But here, they ask how many years you’ve been playing, what’s your style, what you play music for (ex. Professional, just for your own enjoyment, school, ect.), and what your price range is. They will give you at least six violins that fit your criteria and lead you to a room to test each violin and see which one you like (but sometimes the rooms are taken by other people, so you may or may not get a private room). The violins they picked for me all sounded good, so I was hard to pick one, but I finally did, so next up was to pick out a bow. I already had a 200 dollar bow from this place (which is also great quality and adds a wonderful tone to your violin) and offered to buy a more expensive one to go with the new violin, but they insisted that I should stick with the one I have until I become even more advanced. What I love about the people who work here is that even though they could have gotten 300 – 500 more dollars from me to buy another bow, they didn’t because that knew that the bow I have right now is fit for my level. I would highly recommend this store to anyone who plays violin or any string instrument. The violins and bow are very high quality and you will be very satisfied with the customer service.

This is such a cute little violin shop! The customer service I received from Dan, the Weisshaar son, was really wonderful and the shop had a warm family feeling.
I had played violin growing up, but eventually dropped it as I got older so I was just looking for a rental to see if I could pick it up again. Dan asked me if I had a teacher and patiently flipped through his 3-​ring binder of contacts to see if he knew anyone who matched my needs and personality. When he gave me my violin, I was pleased to find out it was a brand new instrument with a pretty good quality sound.
The violin rental price seemed reasonable, but to be honest, I didn’t really have anything to compare it to. I got charged $ 25/​month and it is billed quarterly.
Overall, I’m a fan of the M & R Weisshaar & Son Violin shop. It’s small but seemed to have a good selection of instruments, family owned, and had good customer service.

This is a great small business in the middle of Orange County. I recently dusted off my old violin and thought it needed some work. When I brought it into Weisshaar Violin Shop, I was told that my instrument was in pretty good shape and that I should only replace the hair on my bow. I expected I would need to have more extensive repairs done, so I was happily surprised to hear that no other work was necessary at the time. For me, that’s a sign of an honest business.
The cost for repairs seemed pricey. I’ve been away from having regular work done on my instrument so maybe I don’t know what shops are charging these days. I made the mistake of not asking for an estimate of the repair work before I left my sweet old bow in their trusty hands. I returned to pick up my bow and learned that the total cost to rehair it was $ 60 (I was expecting between thirty and forty). Do ask for an estimate of cost before you leave your instrument so you can avoid any surprises. Do bring cash with you, because they do not accept credit cards on small repair jobs (I’m guessing «small» means under $ 100). I didn’t ask, but it seemed like they would accept a credit card for purchasing instruments.
The shop is lined with violins all over. Even in the entry there are cases of instruments. This seems to be a well known shop among musicians, and for good reason – they do really good work here.
Overall, I was pleased with my experience. The time to complete the rehair was reasonable, and in my chit-​chat with the folks here I learned some ways of taking better care of my instrument. I would feel comfortable coming back and would recommend this shop to all string instrumentalists.

Excellent instruments. Superb service. We rented, then bought our first violin here when our oldest son was in 4^th grade, and we have returned numerous times since for additional instruments, service, and advice. This is the best shop for a quality experience.

Lots of great instruments, and exceptional repairs/​maintenance. I have a couple students who swear by the place, and drive from the outskirts of Orange County to go see the Weisshaars.
Their rental instruments for K-​12 students, particularly the violas, are just superb. I’ve always had a tough time finding smaller (13″-15″) violas for my younger kids, and their instruments blow away the quality of the rentals offered in most general music stores throughout the county. Repairs, restoration, and bow rehairing are all superb.
It’s not a huge store like Guitar Center or anything like that, so individual accessories are going to cost a bit more compared to ordering online. If you are as impressed with the service here as I have been, then consider it a gesture of goodwill to purchase strings, rosin, etc. from them. Despite the slightly higher prices, you are supporting an honest, hardworking, family business that is not interested in making a quick sale and forgetting about you, but wants to establishing a long-​term relationship with you or your family members as they explore the world of stringed instruments.

I recently picked up my violin again after a 5 year hiatus. I needed new strings and my bow rehaired. I found Weisshaar Violin Shop using a simple internet search. I was pleased to find a really knowledgeable, friendly family running the store. They offered great prices on everything I needed, better than all the surrounding music and instrument stores. I trust their expertise and love that it’s a mom and pop shop. Highly recommended.

This is the place to buy or rent a string instrument (violin, viola, cello, bass) in orange county. Extremely knowledgeable staff. Family has been in the industry for several generations.
Rental violins are are much better quality than the quality that you usually get.
If you are buying the staff can help you find what you want. If you are spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on a string instrument, you’d be foolish not to rely on their expertise.
Mama Weisshaar is also an accomplished fiddle maker. The son (trained in Europe) does most of the repairs.
