Harbor Smog Test Only Center

Friendly service and cheapest prices in town. I highly recommend this smog station. I usually call ahead to set up an appointment and within 20 mins my car is done. I have had positive experiences with this shop and will continue to take my car here in the future.

This is a smog check facility not the Ritz. They do a good job at a fair price. If you are looking for ambiance you will be in the wrong place. I have been taking my cars there for years. Don’t go there if you are looking for a Latte and your nails done. Go there if you want to get your car smogged. In and out in about 20 minutes or less.

First things first: I spent two days researching smog test stations on Google, in an attempt to find the cheapest as well as the most reputable smog station in Costa Mesa CA. What I found was Harbor Smog, time and time again, coming up as the best place in town. Not only did I check the prices on their website, but I also called them personally to ask if in fact the pricing on the site was correct. I am a serious bargain shopper and NEVER spend my money without doing my homework first. So… with confidence on my side I headed over to Harbor Smog, feeling very safe that I would have a great and AFFORDABLE experience!
When I pulled up to the shop the first thing I noticed was that it looked completely deserted and really filthy. I’m a reasonable person and understand that any shop that deals with auto’s is likely to be a little dirty, but this place was truly uncared for. I walked through the entrance of the shop and there was not one single person in there to help me, there wasn’t even any costumers. I stood there for about 3 minutes, looking around, hoping to find at the very least a bell to ring for service… I finally found one employee… in the back room (which resembled a bachelor’s living room)…with the TV on… take out containers all over the table… and the employee was ASLEEP on the couch! I tried making some noise to get his attention but he was totally knocked out. I wanted to walk right out and go to another shop, but what kept me there was the fact that they were the cheapest smog test in town and being a single mom who is unemployed it really mattered to me to save some money. So… I stood there waiting for him to wake up. It took about 10 minutes before his phone rang and woke him up. I assumed once he realized I was standing there watching him sleep that he would jump up feeling bad for his laziness, but I was wrong. He didn’t care. Good job buddy… way to go with the costumer service! Anyway… my next complaint is that he began doing the smog test before he handed me any papers to sign, so when he did I saw the estimate on the paper and it said $ 70! The website claimed that it was $ 39.95 and the guy on the phone (I’m guessing it was the same dude who was sleeping) told me the same price of $ 39.95. When I called him out on the discrepancy his response was: «You have an old car»??? O.K.A.Y…
Long story short (sort of), this shop is crap! They have lousy service, lousy aesthetics and they lie to their costumers. Ya, my car is old and it looks like hell, but it’s still worth WAY MORE than the treatment we got from this crap-​shoot of a business!
