Dr. L is my PocketDerm doctor and he’s fantastic. I was very surprised at how thorough his response was to me after I asked him a ton of questions after signing up for PocketDerm for the first time. He also responded very quickly as well. Not to mention, before signing up for PocketDerm, I was spending about $ 100+ on retinol products that weren’t as concentrated/​potent as the one I was presecribed by Dr. L. As for the cost, it’s about $ 49.95 for every three months or about $ 16 per month, which is incredible. Not only does my anti-​aging medication have tretinoin, it also contains niacinamide (known to reduce redness and has been shown to decrease hyperpigmentation with continued use), and also vitamin C (which everyone needs to be using because it can be used day or night or whenever and it improves just about everything about the skin).
A side note here about tretinoin and other retinoic acids/​retinoids. Apparently tretinoin is very effective for anti-​aging, and although not a retinol, it works much better than a retinol does. REtinols can be bought OTC while retinoic acids/​retinoids require prescription. Retinoic acids/​retinoids work right away, while retinolds need to be converted by the body to a form that can do the job. However this conversion isn’t 100% efficient, so you might actually get 30% of the converted ingredient working towards fixing your anti-​aging conerns. This is in comparison to tretinoin (a retinoid/​retinoic acid), which can go to work directly without needing to be converted. Think of it like instant dry nail polish versus a nail polish that needs 10 minutes to dry. Retinols need 10 minutes to dry and in that time you can ruin your manicure, so your manicure might not be «effective.» Retinoic acids are like the instant dry nail polishes where you don’t have to wait for your manicure to be effective.
Dr. L, as part of PocketDerm also doles out medications for those concerned with acne rather than anti-​aging, but I wouldn’t know too much about it since I don’t deal with acne, fortunately.
Just a side note, although PocketDerm is great, it’s not an excuse to seeing a dermatologist in-​person, especially if you are concerned with new lesions on the skin as it might be skin cancer.

I’m a patient of Dr Lortscher via Pocketderm and I highly highly recommend him. I have a dermatlogist locally (who I think is okay) and am so happy Pocketderm exists. I’ve interacted with Dr Lortscher via email and he’s always been very thorough, read every word, and even referred back to information I gave him in the past. My local dermatologist does not do this when I interact with her in-​person!
They also have their own formulations for medications that are much better than the prescription meds you get from pharmacies. I also prefer Pocketderm’s inactive ingredients in these meds over those in the pharmacies.
