1906 Lodge, A Four Sisters Inn

What an awesome little place ! A historic, renovated little gem just one block from the beach and much pricier «Hotel Del»…Lori at the front counter treated us like family while doing extra duty as concierge and travel guide. Laura was warm and inviting and treated us to a great little breakfast each morning. Can’t wait to go back !

Large, well-​appointed, clean, comfortable rooms. Very friendly, helpful, accommodating staff. Great location — close to the beach, ferry landing, and tour pick up spots. Delicious breakfast with a different hot dish every morning. Late afternoon refreshments and snacks. Complementary bicycles, beach towels and beach chairs are a nice touch. We were there during heatwave, and our room was not cooling off. The staff gave us a different room, and also adjusted our bill.

We stayed here a year ago and again this past month. Last year it was wonderful — a beautiful place with great services, attention to detail and lovely rooms. It’s only a few blocks from the beach in the middle of the hot spots in Coronado. We loved it so much we booked a follow-​up trip this year.
The owner changed since and we did receive an email saying, «You may be wondering how becoming a Four Sisters Inn will impact the 1906 Lodge. What will change? Frankly, not much.» Put more specifically, what is changeable did change — the rooms are the same, but the services are not.
While the place is still very nice, the amenities from last year are gone and while the price was the same (and by no means inexpensive), we felt like we were getting less for our money this time.
When we arrived on Friday night we were looking forward to unwinding with a glass of wine and some snacks in the parlor as we did last year. Upon arrival, we dropped our stuff in the room and hurried downstairs only to learn that they had to apply for a new liquor license, so no wine. Ok, it happens, but it would have helped to be informed of this prior to arrival since we were there last year, this was a change (although temporary) and we would have avoided looking forward to something that didn’t exist. And while understandable, why only have a few pieces of a single fruit and some nuts out? They could have done better to make up for the unexpected change.
Also gone, permanently, are the great breakfasts served to the table. Instead, there was food, but not that great and made for the masses, like an all in one dish breakfast casserole on the buffet. It was edible, but not very good. I wish it didn’t include breakfast because I would have preferred to eat elsewhere. Also gone are the other little niceties like fresh baked cookies at night.
The most frustrating part of the experience was the beach equipment. The main activity and reason for staying there is to go to the beach, but the chairs provided are incredibly uncomfortable. There’s a bar right at your neck so you can’t sit back in the chair. Kind of the point of a chair. They are really cheap and while look like a chair, are not really usable. And even worse, for the whole place they have 1 or 2 umbrellas. Why wouldn’t they have enough umbrellas for the people staying there? I had to buy 2 little ones on my own the first day and I got up early the second morning and grabbed a larger one before anyone else. That’s crazy for the amount charged per room and an incredible miss for a beach oriented hotel/B&B. I left mine there, an unexpected donation.
While several of these things are minor — breakfast could have been better, snacks could have been better, cookies would have been nice (they cost that much that the new owner had to discontinue providing cookies?), these are the things that make the difference between a standard hotel and one, especially a B&B, that wants to deliver an experience. It shows a lack of attention to the details that make the experience.
I would have given 5 stars had the experience been the same as last year. It’s still a nice place, but I didn’t feel it was worth the money for essentially just a room, albeit a nice one. The details do matter. While I was planning on making this a yearly get away, it’s no longer as tempting.

My wife and I stayed here for four days when in San Diego for a wedding. We had decided to add a couple days to the trip for a short vacation, and we were delighted with 1906 Lodge. On our previous stay in Coronado, we stayed at the Hotel Del, and while we certainly enjoyed it, I think for future trips we’ll opt for 1906. The lodge is really a great value when you consider the many extras: free parking, a wonderful breakfast (including a delicious hot item every day), loaner bikes and beach chairs and towels!
The location is perfect, unless you insist on an ocean view (and are wiling to pay dearly for it!) It’s on a nice quiet street, but only a few minutes walk from the beach or shops. Best of both worlds.
The staff is wonderful; service is attentive and friendly. This felt more like staying at a friends cottage than a hotel (which I guess is the whole point of a B&B.) The rooms were very well appointed with great attention to detail. The linens were so nice we went on a search to find out how to order some for our home.

Highly recommend this fantastic B and B. Spent a weekend, already rebooked for Christmas time. Wonderful spot for everything. Parked the car and walked everywhere. Beach, dinner shopping right across the street. Breakfast was fantastic!

I took my girlfriend here for our 6 month anniversary. It was on memorial weekend but this place felt like it wasn’t busy at all. Compared to other nearby hotels that were probably busy I consider this place to be a hidden gem.

We decided to meet some friends for a weekend getaway. They had chosen Coronado (our old stomping grounds from my husband’s Navy days) and were staying at the Hotel Del. I love the history of the Del, but we thought it seemed overpriced and needed updating, so we decided to stay a few blocks away at the 1906 Lodge. Boy, did we make the right choice!
Fantastic service, food & accommodations. From being handed a glass of wine at check-​in, to discovering the tranquility of the grounds; its like stepping inside a haven, right in the middle of town.
Our room, the Ferryboat Landing, was gorgeous. The 4 poster bed was so high, I actually had to use the stool provided to get onto the bed. Plus, the bathroom was spacious. Plus, they provided dark wash cloths to wash your face of make-​up. Nice, when all the other towels are white.
We also enjoyed the wine & cheese hour in the late afternoon and the breakfast was fantastic.
Our friends were so jealous when they walked over from the Del. They did not have the same experience as us.

We stayed in the Ocean Blvd Suite for three nights this past weekend as a honeymoon pre-​curser to our Alaskan cruise. We originally planned to stay only two nights but once we arrived we knew we had to stay longer. I can’t say enough about this Bed & Breakfast… the staff, rooms, location, grounds, and service was outstanding. I give everything about the 1906 Lodge 5 Stars!
I’d like to thank everyone for making our stay there special. We will definately be returning.

Love this place. Very close walking distance to beaches. Quiet, tranquil place to stay set back in a residential neighborhood. Extremely helpful and friendly staff. Stayed there a number of times. Complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres in the evening and decent breakfast. San Diego is by far the best to stay in all of SoCal.

Such a great experience at this adorable B&B. Stayed for 2 nights and experienced wonderful customer service and a lovely room. They even gave us bikes to ride around the island and provided beach gear.

This place is so quaint and adorable. The staff is betond friendly and the breakfast is delicious. I came here for a. Night with my bestfriend and I cant wait to be back!

My husband and I stayed at 1906 for our baby moon and were impressed with the room, breakfast, location, staff and service. The bike rentals, parking and movies were included in the price of the room. We would definitely return!

Stayed for four days. The staff is super friendly, providing local advice on where to eat, things to do, how to save some money. The daily breakfast is a combination of cereals, hard boiled eggs, pastries, coffee, tea, juices, but then they also prepare something special each morning. One morning it was amazing French toast, and another a Mexican inspired egg quiche. The room was really nice, quiet and had the expected good water pressure, hot water and A/​C and Heat. My only complaint about the room (Winchester) is that it didn’t have a closet. We had to hang our clothes on a coat hanger in the room. The hotel has free underground parking, WiFi, complementary drinks/​cheese in the evenings. The location is perfect, and is a short (less than 5 minute) walk to Orange Ave, Del Coronado. They offer free bikes, and we rented a golf cart right from the lodge to tour the island. In all, a great stay and I will definitely return.

Stayed here several times in different suites. The best one comes with Jacuzzi tub and fireplace. It’s a bit pricey, but it’s located in the middle of everything in town. They have private underground parking so you don’t have to circle around for a spot. It’s nice and quiet, and they serve homemade breakfast dishes along with the usual continental breakfast side items you can help yourself to, like cereal, granola, different breads and juice. They also have a wine and cheese social hour early in the evening. It seems to cater to an older adult crowd and I’ve never seen any children around, so it makes for a more peaceful stay.

An enjoyable stay in one of the suites somewhat overpriced but everything is overpriced here. Comfortable bed, clean, quality place overall. Would stay again.

Our plan on Saturday the 16^th, the night following our wedding, was to go to the Hotel Del Coronado… But it wasn’t until the night before that we realized that both of us thought the other was going to take care of it. By this time, all of the cheaper rooms in the Del were booked, so I decided (after looking at the reviews and website) that the first surprise of our marriage would be taking my new husband here instead of there. I saw online that this hotel offers romantic set-​ups with rose petals, chocolate, candles, and champagne in their rooms, but then I was disappointed when I saw that they require 72 hours notice for that. I booked the hotel online around midnight and asked in the special requests section if it was in any way possible to get the rose petals and candles even though it was on short notice, and they did it! There were even chocolates sitting on the bed! (Being a nondrinker, yes I had specifically asked for no champagne, and thus they brought none.) I had called the morning of our arrival to confirm and spoken to Lori. She was very nice on the phone, and told me that she already knew of my request and was going to do it for us.
We arrived in the afternoon, still in our renaissance-​themed wedding garb, and Alyssa immediately knew who we must be, checked us in, asked if she could get a picture of her awesome-​looking guests (I’ll post a photo in an update) and told us about the hotel’s Happy Hour. Happy Hour is complimentary to all guests and they serve wine, sliced fresh veggies, fancy cheeses, and lemonade for those who don’t drink.
Alyssa showed us to our room, which was the Author’s Study. It was not like any other hotel room I had seen before. At the 1906, every room has a theme, and this one was decorated with furniture that looked like bookcases, posters featuring The Wizard of OZ/​Frank Baum, and even an older version of a typewriter. (And the aforementioned romantic setup.) I’m not sure if this is true in every room or not, but our room had a showerhead mounted on the ceiling instead of the wall, making it ideal for both couples and extremely tall people. (or extremely tall couples!)
In the morning, we got up and went down to our complimentary breakfast, served from 8am to 10am. The granola, which was made in-​house, was delicious. They also had the fairly standard continental breakfast setup to include bagels, English Muffins, Toast, Cream Cheese, Jam, Cereal, Milk, Coffee, Tea, etc… Plus hardboiled eggs dyed light blue, which is cool. What sets this breakfast apart is that they have a main entrée, which is personally brought out to each guest by the cook, Jill. The eggs Franconia were delicious. :)
At the end of our stay, Lori helped us take pictures in the hotel using our camera (She knows how to use a DLSR!) and also informed us that if we had not booked the very last room they had that night, she would have upgraded us to a suite at no additional cost for the occasion of our wedding. Wow!
In conclusion, this one deserves six stars! Lori, Alyssa, and Jill are all really nice people, the rooms here are bigger and nicer than at the Del, and so many complementary things to make you feel at home, and if you ever feel cooped up in your spacious room, just go down and sit in the entry room or the dining room or the garden. If you’re going to stay someplace really nice in Coronado, skip the Del and come here. It is worth every penny for the memories you’ll have. And don’t forget the camera!

For a bed and breakfast this place is awesome. Very quiet and cozy. Great location very close to the beach and shops.

I booked a stay at this hotel online for an anniversary weekend away with my hubby. I was a little nervous because we usually stay at «The Del» when we go to Coronado & that hotel is hard to beat. BUT once we arrived at 1906, all my concerns were gone. I was super impressed!
What a charming little B&B. The staff was very friendly & accommodating. We stayed in their «North Island» sweet. Which was perfect for our romantic weekend away. The room had a fireplace, jacuzzi tub for two, a separate sitting room & it’s own balcony. A-​MA-​ZING! We also really enjoyed the breakfast that was included each morning. Great selection of items & the presentation was darling!
This hotel is close to everything. Once we parked our car, we never used it while at Coronado. Your just a 5 minute walk to the beach & some of our favorite Coronado resteraunts.

I have never stayed at a more charming hotel. I absolutely love this place. Charming and clean with gorgeous, comfortable rooms — and the best staff and friendly service hands down. They serve gorgeous breakfasts every morning in the most charming little breakfast room and have a beautiful room with big picture windows that you can sit in and drink wine or read by the fireplace. It is so peaceful and lovely — a great place to unwind and relax. You can easily walk to the many shops and other restaurants in Coronado as well as the beach or Hotel Del, you won’t need a car — and honestly, walking around Coronado is part of the charm of staying there.
This hotel is a real gem. I cannot wait to stay there again.

I really enjoyed my time here. I found this place on Unilocal and had pretty high hopes for it, and I wasn’t disappointed. It’s a bed and breakfast so it feels very quaint. The innkeepers were great, friendly and knowledgable. It’s just a walk from the beach, Orange street, and Hotel del Coronado. You basically don’t even need your car once you get here.
My room was a little smaller than I expected from the pictures, but the amazing bathroom made up for it. We stayed in Isabella and I was so in love with the tub. I want to come back and try out all the rooms!
After reading all the raves about breakfast and the wine hour, I wasn’t too blown away. There wasn’t a great selection but at the end of the day, this place isn’t a restaurant.
I had a nice weekend here. I especially liked how quiet it was and that I could walk around like it’s my house. When I came downstairs no receptionist was there to stare at me and I was able to just wander around aimlessly which is a big plus! I would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a nice relaxing weekend.
