Coronado Beach Resort

Booked this through Resortime as a supposed specific Owner-​Owned condo for Comic-​Con 2015. Prepaid for a week in this «resort» back in January of 2015 for a suite for myself, my wife, daughter and my niece. When we showed up we were told that they had oversold the rooms and put us in a single room at the hotel next door. Even though the room was much lower quality and much smaller, they kept us there for two nights and then moved us to the room that we had actually reserved days later. We got no discount for the two nights of the smaller room, despite the front desk telling us they would «let us know about our credit before we left» and my following up for WEEKS after we left. In addition, the reserved Condo was much smaller than advertised and we left the room for the entire day with the request for maid service (which they provide a door hangar for) and the maid did not service the room at all. Finally, though parking was included, there was no parking at the hotel when we returned late at night and my wife had to park far away and walk alone in the dark back to the room. An entirely unsatisfactory experience and I would never go back to this or any other Resorttime hotel. Next time I’ll either book a hotel suite, or use VRBO and deal with the actual owner, not a resort management company.

Talk about false advertising. We stayed all of 30 minutes before we canceled our reservation and left. For home. In LA. Two hours away.
So what happened? On the Expedia website, the room we booked was advertised as a suite, with a queen bed, and a kitchenette.
Talk about creative writing. Our first «gotcha» was the mandatory $ 17 «resort fee» charge. For parking (which was not necessary due to street parking) and for WIFI (which was not used as we have no need). Oh, if you want to use the pool you have to take a shuttle to the Loews Coronado Bay resort 4 miles away. Not gonna use any of the amenities? Still can’t waive the fee, sir. Ok…
The hallway to the room smelled like various foods people were heating up (poor ventilation), and was papered with 1970’s style tiki lounge wallpaper (with dim lighting to match). This can’t be good, we thought.
The «suite» was a total joke. We walked in and noticed there was no bed, until I moved the coffee table put of the way and realized it was a Murphy bed. And it was lumpy.
On top of that, for as sleepy of a town as Coronado is (there are road signs that ask drivers to turn down their music as soon as they enter the island), the room was surprisingly loud due to poor insulation even though it faces Orange Ave.

We immediately called the front desk and asked for an exchange, when we were told to «upgrade» to a 1 bedroom, it would be $ 25 additional charge.

We promptly canceled our reservation and decided it was worth driving back to LA that night, rather than sleep in this property.
Turns out, this is a timeshare that people bought, and they rent out unused rooms.
Aren’t there truth in advertising laws for this type of situation?

My home away from home! Owners for several years, and there’s nothing else quite like it. Proximity to venues is excellent, and a lot of great features in and out of the community to take advantage of. Parking being a huge one! I feel like a part of the family there, and have a great sense of pride for my mom’s favorite and final happy place :)

Heidi is the greatest! She turned a horrible situation into a wonderful experience. Our room was double booked through the booking agency on Labor Day weekend.

Rip off. Came here for the rooftop spa advertised on their homepage as having been remodelled and reopened last month. They told me at check in it was closed but i could drive 4 miles to use a different spa. Woo… hoo. They also said since their resort fee is partially specifically for usage of the spa, it would not be charged. I was suspicous and, indeed, at check out, they refused to provide a receipt after multiple requests saying it was impossible. Wtf. They also said they already charged me for the resort fee. For «injury to insult» the bathtub has sharp edges on the drain which cut me.

We booked room for my in laws here for an anniversary trip. We talked to them 3 times prior about having something in the room at check in for them to celebrate and were told it would be no problem but sadly at check in we noticed it was overlooked. My husband called the next morning to let them know we were less than satisfied by this and they went out of there way the next night they had flowers chocolate and wine. While this could have been a bad review because of the initial check in overlooking the request the management made sure to go above and beyond to make the trip special!
All in all the rooms were great for the price and the location in down town by the del!

Amazing … To be this close to The Del and on the main street of Coronado for the price I paid, I thought there had to be a mistake.
Normally when I am in Coronado The Del is where I stay. However, even with an advance purchase rate, the cheapest I could get Hotel Del was $ 380/​night. (Not including their $ 20/​day resort fee or $ 34/​day valet parking) No thanks! Having stayed there many times, the rooms are not great at all and the pool is crowded and sucks. The WiFi is bad and its just not worth the price to stay at The Del anymore because in all honesty the rooms and service are average/​below average.
The Coronado Resort looked nice on the website and although I was a bit put off by not having daily housekeeping, I booked it at way more than half off what the Del charged.
The room I was assigned was a two bedroom suite (even though I just booked a one room suite). I didn’t mind the extra space and it was nice having two bathrooms. It had a nice small living room with a breakfast nook/​table and a couch which looked into the wall mounted TV and a gas fireplace.
The bedroom was nice as well. A bit of a classier ‘Residence Inn by Marriott’ feel. It felt more like a nice apartment than a hotel room. Nice kitchen area and overall the suite had a very nice flow to it.
Parking was easy and ‘sort of free’. There is a daily resort fee, which includes parking and WiFi. I think it was $ 11/​day. Not bad considering the Del charges double that for a resort fee and over triple that for parking. They actually waived the resort fee because the roof deck was under construction so the jacuzzi and grill were closed. There’s a shuttle that will take guests 8 miles away to a branded hotel where you can use their pool but I was on business and didn’t have time for that.
They have lots of dining discount offers if you ask at the front desk. I ate my meals at the restaurants at The Del but really wanted to try the Mexican place next door.
The location is the star of the show here (runner up would be the great staff) … You literally cross the street at the crosswalk next to the resort and you are at The Del Coronado. The beach is a 4 minute walk across the street and the relatively safe Orange Street restaurants are on the same street as The Coronado Beach Resort. Everything is right there within a short walk and Coronado is one of the nicest little resort towns I’ve visited.
The downside is that housekeeping is not included, so you will make your own bed, re-​use towels and for some inexplicable reason they give you only a bar of soap and no shampoo. (You can ask for shampoo at the front desk) I found it odd that they don’t give you more than a small bar of soap. Also, as of ⁴⁄₁₅ the top deck is closed due to renovations and who doesn’t love a good jacuzzi?
I doubt I will ever get the same inexpensive rate as I booked again. If this wasn’t a fluke, consider me a regular! Trust me when I say that the rooms and service at the Del are nothing special. Honestly, given the choice between The Coronado Beach Resort and The Del if price wasn’t a factor … I liked the room better at The Coronado Beach Resort than the rooms at The Del the last few times I stayed there!

Perfect location. Walk across the street to Del Coronado. Enjoy a glass of wine upstairs in the patio and view the F-​21 fighter jets and Navy Seals flying over the skies of Coronado. Five star restaurants walking distance from the CBR. Walk to the Orange/​First Street Harbor and dine at one of the many fine restaurants! Peohle’s is my favorite since you have a panoramic view of the harbor.

Been coming here since I was a child. At 52 there is never a time we would choose a different location. Great accommodations with staff to assist with every need. OUTSTANDING! No complaints:)

Stayed here 1 night with the wife and 2 kids. It was nice and I would stay here again only if the price were much cheaper– for $ 250/​night I think I expected a few more «resort» options on the premises. In my mind a resort means there’s all sorts of shit to do right there at the facility. This is not a resort. In fact, it’s NOT even a hotel. They have a coffee station down in the lobby, but there’s no in house café or bar or kid’s area or anything like that. That’s fine, but I guess the word «resort» gave me unrealistic expectations. I booked this place on Expedia in the «hotel» section but once arriving there and then checking in at the desk I was ushered over to a salesperson who wanted to sell me a «time share.» Yes, this is a condo/​time share building and not really a hotel at all. We are literally renting someone’s private time share for the night. Again, that’s fine but I had no clue that’s what I booked.
Now, I must admit the place is not bad at all. The room was a pretty standard condo type room with a small kitchenonette area, a bedroom area with a tv separated with a curtain from a living room with another tv and a sofa/​pull out bed. There’s also a small balcony. It was comfortable enough in the room, especially with the living room giving the kids their own space.
The location of the Coronado Beach Resort is hard to beat. It is literally on the main strip of Orange Ave. with shops and restaurants up and down the street for a good half mile or so. Is it worth the $ 250-​$ 300 per night? I’d say if location is your priority then maybe. But I’m used to getting a bit more on the amenity side without leaving the joint for that kind of money. If I stay in Coronado again I’ll probably look for something under $ 200 on Orange Ave. if I can find it.

We had a fantastic experience at the Coronado Beach Resort. It really is a primo location, and we were trilled that so much was available to us within walking distance. Located directly across from the Hotel Del Coronado and just a short walk to the beach and a plethora of restaurants and shops — it was nice not having to fight traffic or fight for a parking space. Speaking of parking — this place does not charge for parking, which is a non-​trivial benefit when you’re staying a week, and most other places charge $ 25 a day and up for the privilege of using the parking garage.
Overall, the place was clean and well maintained. It wasn’t fancy, but it wasn’t dated and shabby either — we were very comfortable there. The rooms were a good size, and we were pleasantly surprised at how well stocked they were from a cooking perspective. We were a bit skeptical about the hot plate, but it did the job surprisingly well for most of our cooking needs. Plenty of pots/​pans/​utensils/​gadgets. There were also two BBQ’s on the deck of the third floor which, and the other guests were courteous when it came to sharing them. Full sized fridge is a godsend when you have a family of six. The laundry room was right across from our room scored big points from this mom of 4 kidlets. We didn’t use the fireplace in our room (because of said kidlets) but I thought it was a nice touch.
We were there for Christmas, and they had the lobby decked out with a tree and nutcrackers lining the mantle of the cozy fireplace. They host various activities in the lobby, like sand dollar painting and hula lessons, though we didn’t get to many of them. We did go to the happy hour, which could have been executed a bit better — the wine was pretty awful, and given how many inexpensive yet decent wine options are out there these days, I expect better. They had put out some cheese/​crackers/​salami type snacks, but no plates or napkins, which is sort of unsanitary (one woman bellied up to the counter and used it as her personal buffet table — gross). Some minor modifications, and the happy hour could be fun, because the other guests that we met while there were all really nice and I would have enjoyed mingling a bit.
Customer service was excellent! There were some mixups with our rooms when we arrived (we would up having to split up between two separate rooms) and it forced us to play musical hotel room a couple of times. Management was extremely apologetic, and they readily compensated us for the error and inconvenience. They were very responsive to our requests, including on Christmas Day when there was a mishap with the door to our room. Staff was friendly to our kids and made a point of engaging in conversation with them when we were in the lobby.
Pricing was reasonable as well. We would definitely stay here again.

The weather and beach setting is incredible obviously. If you appreciate the historic nature of the hotel, you’ll give it a five, but the room itself isn’t as nice as what you would find a similarly priced hotels.

Spent 4 days at Coronado Beach Resort, and honestly couldn’t wait to leave. I guess it just wasn’t what I was expecting, given so many glowing reviews. Learning to try and navigate the reviews with my own expectations as a person who has traveled perhaps more than average. I should have spent more time reading the reviews immediately before checking in to refresh my memory!
Upon our arrival for our 4 day beach vacation, we were offered the choice of a 1^st floor room available immediately, or a 3^rd floor room available 3 hours later — both facing the Del Coronado (and Orange Ave.). I specifically asked the front desk guy at check in a single question, «What is the difference between the two rooms?» He replied that there was NO difference, and it just mattered if we prefer being on a lower or higher floor. Since there was «NO» difference, we chose the 1^st floor room available immediately.
Upon further investigation, there is a HUGE, GIGANTIC, GINORMOUS difference (at least to us) between being on the 1^st floor and the 3^rd floor. First, the ground floor room is obviously much closer to the insanely busy road that is Orange Ave. You have people literally walking, talking, laughing, drinking, partying, and parking mere feet from the windows of the room at all hours of the night. Traffic noise is extremely loud. Given that you are physically closer to the street on the 1^st floor, this is an obvious difference between the two rooms.
Second, there is a rooftop balcony with hot tub (that was so hot none of the guests we encountered could even go in), BBQs, lounge chairs, and a sauna that is directly accessible from the end of the 3^rd floor hallway. There is even a nice little sitting area on the 3^rd floor near the elevators that the 1^st floor does not have.
Third, the 3^rd floor rooms have a BALCONY with a view of the ocean! Traveling with kids, we felt literally trapped in our dark, noisy, interior room after the kids went to bed. Often, we like to retreat somewhere/​anywhere after the kids are in bed… but we were forced to sit in the living room with only a curtain separating us from the 2^nd bedroom… not even a real door.
My position is that if I ask you a direct question, I expect an honest and direct answer. Not that hard. Had my singular, straightforward question been answered honestly, our experience would have been HUGELY and SUBSTANTIALLY better. I am so aggravated that I spent four days of my life in a substandard room when all the guy had to do was tell me the true differences between the rooms and I could have easily made the decision to wait a couple of hours for the 3^rd floor room. Additionally, the «immediately available» room we ended up in had wet carpets… like really wet. Like smelled like a wet dog wet. The carpets were damp for nearly 2 days and every time we returned to the room, it smelled nasty and damp.
If I ever visit Coronado again, I will stay at the Glorietta Bay Inn. It’s directly behind The Coronado Beach Resort and is beautiful, historic, boutique-​y. With a pool too! And it’s cheaper I believe. I only wished I had booked there and not wasted my money and time staying at the Coronado Beach Resort.
More details:
1. Anything facing Orange Ave. will be NOISY NOISY NOISY. Beware if you’re a light sleeper.
2. The kitchenette was fine (toaster, coffeemaker, sink, dishwasher, full size fridge). No range, just a hot plate that we didn’t bother to get out.
3. Only a curtain separating the 2^nd bedroom from the living area. Weird.
4. Master bathroom had no shower, just sink and toilet. And it was SO dark in there it was unusable to get ready in, so we all used the other bathroom.
5. The lobby is nice — parrot, coffee/​tea and snacks sometimes. Popcorn in the afternoon that the kids liked.
6. The room felt dated and dark to me. Like being trapped in a dungeon! Maybe that is a slight exaggeration, but I’m a natural light person… Lighting was not good and there was very little natural lighting from the small windows. I guess they’ve remodeled, but either they did a pretty crappy job or they only did pieces of it.
7. The hotel is a convenient 5 minute walk from Coronado Beach. We utilized the beach chairs, sand toys, beach towels, etc. for the kids. That was a nice amenity.
8. Great access to a variety of restaurants and shops on Orange Ave.
No way would I stay here again.

I was so thrilled with our stay that I could barely wait to get home to write a positive review for the Coronado Beach Resort!
This past weekend my husband and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary here. A client of mine is affiliated with the resort and was able to get us a really good rate, so we snapped up the offer since we’re on a super tight budget and the chance may never come around again!
There was a couple of booking issues (mostly on my client’s end — not the resort’s fault) but Erick professionally cleared up the issues the day before we arrived. I really appreciated the time he took to resolve my problem, even giving me his personal business phone number in case of any other hurdles.
We checked in on Friday evening and were given a pamphlet of information for surrounding restaurants and activities, including a «VIP» discount at certain participating spots. The front desk concierge that evening (Jonathan?) was ultra helpful as well.
Our room was BEAUTIFUL — facing the Hotel Del with a bit of ocean view from our balcony. The room was impeccably clean — cleaner than any hotel I’ve ever experienced — with tasteful décor and comfortable furniture. The bed was super comfy too. There were two flat screen TVs in our unit, a spotless bathroom with a large tub/​shower, tons of towels and complimentary coffee, hot chocolate, etc.
The kitchenette was perfect for if we had been staying longer. There was a full size fridge, a mini dishwasher, a sink, pots, pans and a selection of pint and wine glasses… I could seriously live there. The upper deck with the jacuzzi and deck chairs is perfect to watch the sun set.
One day during our stay we had a maintenance issue and called down for something, and they arrived at our room in less than 5 minutes. I was floored; talk about great service!
The lobby is beautiful with high ceilings and loungy furniture, complete with the 20 year old resident macaw, Cody.
I could go on and on but this review is already lengthy enough. We were ecstatic about our stay and didn’t want to leave. I can’t recommend Coronado Beach Resort enough and would absolutely stay here again in the future!

The view doesn’t get better than this in SD.
I didn’t stay here at the resort but stopped by their rooftop bar for some drinks with a friend we were visiting and having dinner with in SD. There are firepits situated in various parts of the bar and we sat and watched the sunset over drinks.
Good enough for me!

The Coronado Beach Resort was ok. We had a really small room with our window next to the road. There was a lot of car noise the first night. We complained to the front desk about the noise and they upgraded us to a one bedroom suite. The only thing was that we had to pay $ 25 more a night. We were fine with that because we went from a studio room to a one bedroom suite with no car noise.

First going into the room… where’s the BED? Oh it’s in the wall… lol like the movies
there’s a pull out bed in the couch but you have to move the furniture around to make sure that the bed and pull out bed fits in the room

so we had fun bbq-​ing up top and eating with the fam

there’s a McCaw, Ms. Cody that you can take pictures with and interact, but do not touch, she bites!

We didn’t get to stay here because they accidentally double-​booked our room. However, I’m giving them 5 stars for the following reasons:
1) They handled the booking problem really well. They got us a new room at a cute hotel right down the street. Erick was the person at the front desk that handled everything. He was really professional. He also hooked us up with complimentary cards for nearby restaurants.
2) The location is SO AMAZING.
3) They have ample parking and that is hard to come by in Coronado.

Had a pretty crappy long weekend in Coronado… so it says something about the Coronado Beach Resort that I’m still giving it 5 stars.
Our visit to Coronado started off well. Our room turned out to really be a one-​bedroom apartment with a living area (with pull-​out couch), bedroom (with a curtain rather than door), and a not-​quite-​a-​kitchenette space. It was clean and comfortable and I loved the touch of the towels folded in the shape of a swan on the bed. The location is great – it’s right on Orange Avenue and across from the Del.
The Coronado Beach Resort is really more of a time-​share resort than regular hotel. Bring your own toiletries. I would much prefer the amenities they do provide, however, than the more wasteful little bottles of shampoo, etc. For example, you can borrow bikes, helmets, beach chairs, and dvds free. We really enjoyed a bicycle ride through Coronado which would have cost like $ 40 if we rented bikes on the beach. The lobby also had popcorn in the afternoon and tea and coffee all day. Wi-​fi is free.
So far, so good. Until the weekend got crappy. Literally. (And vomit-​y. Okay. TMI). First, my boyfriend came down with the stomach flu. The fold-​out bed and two tvs certainly came in handy. Then, the night before we were supposed to check out, I came down with a violent case of the same flu. There was just no way I was going to be able to get on a plane the next day. The hotel was actually booked for the following night, but my boyfriend talked to the manager at 7am, explained that he was deploying that morning and I was too sick to get on a plane. The manager was very nice. He was able to get us the room for an extra night – I didn’t even have to switch rooms. And he gave us a super-​low rate and voluntarily waived the resort fee for the day. So, while I missed the ship send-​off that I had gone to San Diego for, it was better than lying doubled up in pain on the street or getting kicked off Southwest airlines. (Also, the send-​off never happened. The ship my boyfriend is captain of had mechanical problems and they didn’t deploy another two days, but that’s another story.)
The manager’s kindness was also just par-​for-​the course. Every interaction we had with the staff was pleasant. Plus, the parrot in the lobby is adorable. Ultimately, I think the Coronado Beach Resort offers an experience close enough to the Del’s without the cost.

My family has vacationed in Coronado for at least 10 years, and we will never stay anywhere else but here!
Their rooms are all beautiful, complete with kitchen and fireplace. If you’re lucky enough, get a room with a view of the Hotel Del and the ocean, but even if you aren’t the other side of the hotel has a great view of downtown San Diego.
The staff is always very friendly, especially the receptionist Erick. Every morning they serve complimentary coffee and tea in the lobby, and during some afternoons they serve fresh popcorn. The lobby has internet access, but guests also have free access in their rooms. The 2^nd floor has a nice lounge with tv and pool table, plus a great view of the ocean. The 3^rd floor has a jacuzzi and grill. Hotel guests are also given access to the swimming pools at Lowe’s Resort (about 10 minutes away) since the hotel doesn’t have a big pool. Parking is free both at Lowe’s and at CBR for hotel guests. You can borrow beach towels, umbrellas, chairs, and body boards free of charge.
The best part about this place is that it’s walking distance (literally 5 minutes away) from the beach, the Del, and the rest of downtown Coronado. They also have a pretty small but legitimate gym. The only trade off is that if you request a room with a balcony, you’ll have a small living room, and vice versa. This is definitely the BEST resort in Coronado!
