Tomizaki’s Champions Kung Fu Institute

We absolutely LOVE Tomizaki’s Champions Kung Fu Institute! Our son (9) and our daughter (4) have been taking classes here for a year now. Both of them needed physical therapy and their doctor suggested martial arts. My cousins took Kung Fu when they were younger and they all remembered Sifu Daniel Tomizaki. We could tell they admired and respected him a great deal. It was upon their recommendation that we came and checked out this school. To be honest, we almost didn’t because we were looking for a location more local to our home. But we decided to go one Saturday and we are SO GLAD WE DID!!!
We have already seen tremendous growth in strength and coordination in both our kids. They’ve reached milestones that have even amazed their doctor. Not only have they built strength and mobility, but they have also gained in their listening skills, awareness, and confidence. It has been fun and inspiring to watch them learn and grow. Our kids look forward to every class; always ready to greet their friends and instructors!
Sifu Daniel Tomizaki, Sijeh Steffani and all the instructors are wonderful with the kids. Although the children are grouped together by age, the teachers invest time and effort on individual progress and development. They have each child’s best interest at heart. We feel that they are not only teaching our children, but also building a relationship with each of them. We love how the older kids help with the younger kids’ class. Everyone looks out for each other with very positive attitudes. It really does feel like a family here.

Our family’s kung fu story began almost five years ago when my son turned 4. My husband and I decided to enroll our son in kung fu to build discipline, confidence, exercise and fun. Based on Unilocal reviews, I chose Tomizaki’s Champions Kung Fu Institute. Definitely one of the best decisions I’ve made for my family! Now, kung fu is a huge part of our lives. All 3 of my children love it and would attend every class if they could!
Sifu Daniel Tomizaki, his wife, Sijeh Steffani, and all their instructors and assistants are top-​notch. They are patient, firm and fun, while maintaining high standards for all of their students, whether they are tiny tots in the grasshopper class, adults or seniors. They teach to each individual’s needs so that everyone can achieve success.
I know my own children love kung fu because, most importantly, they love and respect their teachers. They also enjoy having opportunities to learn and practice different things: hand forms, staff, nunchakus, weapons sparring, point sparring, lion dance, self-​defense and leadership. (As they advance, they will learn to use other kung fu weapons as well.) I love that my children have become confident in themselves and continue to strengthen their minds and bodies.
Sifu Tomizaki and Sijeh Steffani have created a school that has become like a second family for us. My children have made some wonderful friends in their classes and I love that us kung fu moms and dads have also become great friends as well! It will be well worth your time to try out Tomizaki’s Champions for yourself or your child (ren).

The best thing that happened to me as a child and so grateful to my mother that she took me and now as a father I’m passing it on to my son. The teaching of self defense, discipline, order, respect for self and that others should respect you. This institute is well organized and clean with a great staff and Master Tomizaki is awesome. They are all very involved with the students with constant corrections and teaching of proper movement. I highly recommend this institute for children, self and family.

I joined Master Sifu’s «Tomizaki’s Champions Kung Fu» institute in March, 2014 and have been there for over 8 months (upon writing this review). Since day 1 of training it has been a fantastic, super awesome and intense experience and journey. I love Kung Fu. I’ve been doing Karate two years prior and while I still love that, Kung Fu came along and found a special place in my heart. If I had to choose I’d say that I love Kung Fu more. Master Sifu Tomizaki has a lot of passion and a very unique and great blend of compassion, kindness, toughness and intensity. He will push you very hard taking you to higher grounds that you might have not thought was possible with you. Although he pushes you hard, he does it in a kind and compassionate way. He really cares about his students and treats everyone like family. «We’re your Kung Fu family here» he says. That factor has made «Tomizaki’s Champions Kung Fu» an extremely special and wonderful place. Some of the special things great about «Tomizaki’s Champions Kung Fu» is that cardio, strength and flexibility training are core to the curriculum. The student actually trains hard conditioning the body to higher levels of kung fu performance. The forms are really cool in combining kung fu movements yet strengthening the body by keeping all the stances low and the forms strong. The self defense techniques are very practical to real life situations and you are challenged to react quickly to an attack and get those senses trained. I say that the workouts are very well rounded and never boring. Indeed, Sifu has a very strong curriculum here. Having the word «Champion» in the title of the school is a big deal which has its merit. A lot of the students have performed very well i tournaments locally and abroad. However, that’s not why the school calls their students champions. They train each student hard to reach their full potential. It’s the daily hard work and dedication to better oneself which really makes one a champion. They really do bring out the champion in you and help make you a better person as well with the kindness they show amongst the intense training. As for me, I know I’m here for life. That may seem like an exaggeration but for me it really is no exaggeration.

Our little boy started Kung Fu here in Dec 2013 at a little over 3 yrs old. In such a short period of time he have learned and grown so much! All the staffs are so loving and caring. Always brings our little man a smile before and after class. They are also strict but they make it fun and rewarding for the kids. There’s just so much more to say about this institute! Today was there 9^th Kung fu tournament and all the kids did soo well and they were all so proud of themselves! Our little guy wouldn’t put his trophy down:))

My son has been training and learning Kung Fu at this school for a little over four years now (since age four).
He is learning Kung fu, but also discipline, respect and that when you work hard at something, there are rewards.
Many of the older kids, help the younger kids train and learn in addition to modeling good citizenship.

We are on our fourth month and I’m still impressed. Instructors are great with the kids and every parent I talk to loves this place. They hold everyone to the same standards.

I have to agree with all the other reviewers on the quality of this school as well as its instructors. Personally, finding a martial arts school can be very tricky business. It can be hard to determine if a school is truly looking for students or just another customer (if you get my drift). Luckily, I was fortunate enough to come across Master Tomizaki about 6 years ago when I decided to check out the local kungfu academy. There were many excellent instructors, however the one that stood out among them all was obviously Master Tomizaki.
Eventually I went off to college and stopped my trainning for about 2 to 3 years. Upon returning I learned that Master Tomizaki opened a school of his own, and the moment I settled back in after my return from college I signed up for kungfu again. Besides the numermous awards, trophies, and accomplishments, Master Tomizaki is a man of integrity, quality, and humility. Considering his amazing talent in martial arts he is extremely humble.
He treats each student with respect and isn’t afraid to push them a little bit past their limit — I mean how else will one improve if not pushed a little, right? He also has a way of working with individuals by recognizing their strengths and weaknesses and working on a plan to develop and improve upon them.
The other instructors also show the same dedication and fervor when working with students of all ages. Not only do you get a good physical work out, but there is also a mental satisfaction after each class. Although classes only run about 45 minutes, I can promise you that it not only feels longer, but there is no wasted time in those 45 minutes. Everything that occurs in a class is geared toward improving yourself.
Over the course of knowing Master Tomizaki and trainning under him and his other instructors, I have improved my stamina, speed, mental discipline, and overall health. This place not only gives that sense of «authenticity», but also a sense of family and belonging. It’s that sense of family that gives you the feeling that you are valued as an individual and not just a customer. There are very few places that I can call a second home, but for me, this is it. Therefore, if you’re looking for a quality school to guide you and train you in KungFu, but also for a place where you will feel welcomed and valued — look no further.

This is by far the best Kung Fu school around! Our kids joined 2 years ago and have not only become more flexible, coordinated and stronger, but have also become more confident and disciplined. This school really teaches respect and self-​control. Master Tomizaki has an incredible background in Kung Fu and is an excellent instructor. He has a special way with people in which he can teach with humor and is incredibly patient. About a month after my son joined (who was 4 years old at the time) I found him asleep in another room. I went to move him by grabbing his arm and out of nowhere he did a self-​defense move that removed my grasp on him. He never even woke up, it was just something that he had learned to react to. I really like how self-​defense is taught there and applied. Master Tomizaki also spends time teaching the children about safety and being aware of strangers and their surroundings. I also liked how Master Tomizaki handled sibling issues and behavior issues at home. He spent a great deal of time explaining to the kids in a way that they could understand how to resolve their problems and yet made the kids feel good about themselves by opening up about issues they were having. My kids absolutely love learning Kung Fu from Master Tomizaki and all the instructors there are just amazing individuals. The school is composed of students and instructors who come from all backgrounds but we truly consider this school as part of our family. We feel honored to be a part of this special school.

A tremendously positive experience.
I had been looking for a specific school for my kids for awhile. I needed a school that had traditional values with modern teaching methodology. Tomizaki’s fit the bill perfectly. It is not a «belt factory» — you earn your way here. As much as the discipline, I wanted my kids to experience the humble pride and confidence of accomplishment. They have. I also wanted this to be more than exercise; martial arts have always had a self-​defense purpose. Master Tomizaki also believes and teaches this in an age-​appropriate way.
I also wanted a school that complimented my limited previous training without undermining it. After speaking to Master Tomizaki, I learned that he is an incredibly experienced instructor in his discipline yet open-​minded enough to continue to be a student in many other areas. He assured me that he would not try to deprogram my previous training; rather, he asked that I be receptive to his teachings. It was exactly this kind of perspective that I was searching for.
In the year-​and-​a-​half since, I have found Master Tomizaki and his teaching staff to be unbelievably thoughtful yet uncompromising in the demanding standard. They are striving and reaching the goal of creating lifelong students. The school is very welcoming and supportive for students of all ages: the young and the young heart.

I cannot say anything but good about this school. A couple years ago I was looking for a martial art school for my son, and went to a randomly found Taikwando school in Ygnacio plaza, Walnut Creek. An instructor in his late teen years told me my son was not ready for this type of sports yet because he was not listening to him. Wow, this was a surprise! Isn’t this why we give our kids to martial arts — to learn discipline? I went on searching, and found Tomizaki’s Champions on-​line. I called and talked to master Tomizaki. I asked 2 questions: whether he is the owner of the school and whether he is on the mat during classes. Both answers were positive, and so I went there. It is now 2 years that we have been going to Tomizaki’s Champions, and all my family is extremely satisfied with the progress my son has made! We had personal issues with him during the 1^st grade, and as many times as I asked the master for an advise, he would invite my son into his office and talk to him for half an hour, or an hour. He does not regret his energy for children. He is THE master that any parent can dream of for his child.

Best Kung Fu school! A couple of years ago, my husband and I were looking for a martial arts school for our kids. We did our research and heard great things about this school. After trying a couple classes, we knew we found the right school. Master Tomizaki is an awesome Kung fu instructor. He has 28 years of training and 25 years of teaching experience. He’s really great with the kids, and he makes Kung fu really fun. The youngest student he has is four years old and the oldest is in their 60’s. The kids are always laughing and giggling as they learn how to kick and punch. They learn how to defend themselves, and they also learn respect and discipline. For adults, if you’ve always wanted to do Martial Arts, it’s never too late. The school is open to all ages. It’s a very friendly and positive atmosphere!
