Should have known better. Sad when a locksmith only has 3.5 stars — tells you all you need to know! Primarily this dude is Rude. Hung up when I called the first time. Refused to come out when called. Not much use to a locksmith that doesn’t do after hours service. Found out they charge 185 for lockouts when competitors in concord charge 95 for same service. Ripoff company. Stay away.

I went there to get a key for the snug top on my pick up, I told them the code for they key which is stamped on the lock. The guy told me that was not the code and he had to cut the key by taking out the lock to find the cuts that needed to be made on the key. He told me it would be $ 47.00 and be 45 minutes. Actually that is the code for the lock and I picked one up at a camper supply place for $ 10.00. So either they are ignorant and not good locksmiths or they were trying to rip me off.

I wanted to thank you for going out of your way yesterday to help us obtain a new battery for our alarm lock.
The battery went out on the lock that is used by patrons of our building’s café as well as a wine bar. Our office manager was initially told that it would take until Monday to get the new battery, but when its urgency was explained, your rep was able to get a hold of one for us within hours.
We really appreciate your effort, and I wanted to personally thank you for going the extra mile.

Beware of Rex Lock & Safe — Bait and Switch…
I called Rex Lock & Safe to see how much it would cost to pick or drill the lock on my trailer hitch. The woman that answered the phone said there would be no charge for picking or drilling the lock if I purchased a new lock from them. I arrived at Rex Lock 20 minutes later and told her I was the fellow who called. She sent a technician out to the parking lot with me to look at the lock. He said he might be able to pick the lock but that he would probably have to drill the lock. He said in either case it would take about an hour to do the work and that I would be charged $ 90.00 labor for removing the lock — regardless of wether or not I purchased a lock from them. I told him that the woman on the phone told me there would be no charge for labor if I purchased the replacement lock from them. He told me she did not know what she was talking about and that it would take him about an hour to do the work in the hot sun (it was 75 degrees). I told him that Rex Lock was engaging in bait and switch tactics and that I would never use them in the future as I could no longer trust what they say.
From the parking lot I called County Lock & Key, also in Concord. I was told the cost to pick or drill the lock would range from $ 25.00 to $ 45.00 regardless of whether or not I purchased a lock from them. I did not mention mention my experience with Rex Lock. I drove straight over to County Lock and I timed how long removing the lock would take. The technician spent 5 minutes trying to pick the lock and then told me he would have to drill it. It took another 10 minutes to drill and remove the lock. He charged me $ 35.00!!!
From now on I will go to County Lock & Safe, no lies and no bait and switch.

Well, this company actually did not help me what so ever. The 5 stars are for strictly following their policy of proof of ID that you live at the location you’re trying to get into. So you can trust that they won’t be letting any rando into your place.
I locked myself out of my home today and they came in a timely manner. However, I had no ID or mail with my name on the address to prove I lived there (because it was inside) so I was turned down for their services. In the end, I ended up paying $ 100 less for accidentally breaking my window to get in than if I had been assisted by Rex. I only had to pay to replace the glass on my kitchen window.

These people are amazing they made a key for me out of two broken halves!
I called around, and out of everyone, they told me to come down that day and attempted to make it before closing! They made me a key that worked flawlessly and at an outstanding price!

I purchased a safe after one had been broken into. These guys opened the busted safe for free and had a new one installed the next day. Very good customer service but there prices may be a little high after comparing models online.

Fast service and good price. I called for the rekey and door repair. Very nice service person. Everything was as expected and much cheaper than I thought.

Called them prior to ordering my replacement key fob from Ebay. They told me they could reprogram the used key. Not! I spent a lot of money for this key. When I called to arrange the reprogramming, they still told me they could do it. When I arrived, the locksmith said they could not do it. Only the dealer could reprogram this.
What a waste of my time and money. They did not apologize, but they did make me a duplicate key for my tool box and did not charge me. Otherwise, I would have given them 1 star. Now I have to spend three times the amount I had originally figured I would spend on this spare key.
Total disappointment.

First off why do they block off parking spots, so there drivers dont have to walk to darn far. While all the other plaza customers have to walk. I thought a business was supposed to put the customer first. Not at Wrecks. Will not use again. Had a vehicle with a storage box on the back. The door keys would not work. Brought it in have a key made. Picked up vehicle and the new keys worked fine. So did the door keys. So did anything, basically they were not even locks anymore. Anything that would half way fit would open it up. Thanks Rex, or should I say Wrecks.

Came here based on a neighbor’s recommendation to get a new lock for my mailbox. It was fast, easy, and inexpensive. I showed the employee a picture of my current mailbox lock and he gave me the appropriate new one. I’ll be back if I need anything else lock/​key-​related.

We’ve used Rex Key & Safe in Berkeley before so we knew they would have everything. And they did. They made me a copy of a weird key I knew no one else would have. They also provided excellent customer service.

With the help of Ace Hardware in Lafayette, I was referred to Rex Lock and Safe to take care of my door handle that Bomac’s was not able to repair. Instead Bomac gave and estimate of between $ 400 and $ 1000 to repair and replace the hardware. I went to Rex’s and was help by Craig. The whole hardware system was broke down to me in layman terms, so I understood what he thought he could do. Well, he did it. He fixed the 40 + year old handle and saved my family hundreds of $$$, as I only charged $ 30.
Lesson learned — «always get a second opinion, and to not go by the reputation or location of a busy.
I received Great customer service from Rex’s!
FYI… When they say they close at 5 pm… They are CLOSED. But I was able to leave the lock next door and Craig picked it up in the morning.

Needed a Medeco lock key copied so drove from Antioch to Concord as Rex is the only Medeco authorized locksmith in the area. They copied my Medeco issued plastic card in order to send to Medeco for replacement key. Two weeks later they called to say I needed to return so they could repeat the process as they photocopied the card instead of running it through the Medeco slide device (like a credit card machine of old). Even I knew that it needed to be done with the Medeco slide device but they did everything out of my sight. I told them that was pretty inconvenient and since they made the error maybe they should send one of their locksmiths to me to make a proper copy. They suggested that I might want to take my business elsewhere so I will. Medeco is very picky about how their high security keys are copied and Rex, as an authorized dealer should know the procedure. I think they do but whoever helped me didn’t. Very rude of them to tell me to take my business elsewhere when they made the error. Would cost me $ 10 in gas and a couple hours to return to their shop but they didn’t want to work it out. Lady on the phone was very polite but quickly handed me to someone who was rude.

Rex lock and safe came out to replace a lock on the door at our office. After we realized that our electonic door opener no longer worked due to the new lock. They ended up fixing our old lock and came back to re-​install it so it would work. Thank you!

Rex Lock and safe is reliable they show up when theysay they will. They don’t under price the job when you call then jack it up after they arrive. Call Rex Lock and safe you wont be disappointed.

Great service as usual! I’ve been busy with property turnovers and Rex Lock has been able to accommodate my last minute appointments.

I had Rex L&S install hockey puck locks on my work van. Why? Because Rex L&S has a bunch of work vans that have the exact same lock. And they apparently have (or had) one guy that installs them. I figured that experience would prove valuable.
Unfortunately that experience didn’t seem to help. I could not leave the van and go, so I was there during much of the installation. At one point the installer kept slamming the rear door. I’m not being picky here. He really was slamming the thing hard. At the time I was in the driver’s seat on the phone with a client and couldn’t see what was going on. By the time I was ready to ask about it there were other things on my mind…
…like the fact that the hasp portion of the lock warps the passenger door. The causal observer may not notice, but I do. How the van looks is important to me. They understood that because I explained it in no uncertain terms up front. I even had the locks professionally painted to match the van prior to installation. Nevertheless the door is warped. There’s not much that can be done about it now, at least not for any reasonable dollar amount.
Then a few days later I shut the (not often used) passenger door and the same hasp mentioned above slammed into the edge of the sliding door. I get treated to a disconcerting metallic thud every time it does. No doubt the installer got the same thud as well. Funny how he didn’t bother to mention it. I was not there for every moment of the installation. (Got lunch at the pizza joint.) I obviously missed that part of the day’s fun. The passenger door hasp may eventually come loose, which might require a body shop to fix. My only saving grace is that the passenger door isn’t used much, so it may not come to that.
I also later found out that the passenger window didn’t work. They forgot to reconnect the window’s power when they put the door back together. I took care of that myself.
Any one of these issues isn’t necessarily worth a bad review. But in total it was a bit much. The staff was mostly friendly, but they were disorganized. Their explanation was that one guy was on loan from another store. Again, that’s not a big deal unto itself. But taken in total it was a bad experience that leaves my van with an unfixable (for any reasonable sum of money at least) problem that I’ll just have to live with.

I’m not sure if the guy who came and unlocked my office was named «Rex» but we will just refer to him as such.
So I was in my office around 4pm with the door shut and locked. I was tucked away nicely hidden from everyone else in their offices.
Then I decided that I wanted to go home so I piled all my belongings on my desk and remembered to go get my left over lunch from the kitchen fridge. Then on my way back from the kitchen Id just pick up all my belongings and walk out the front door.
Two steps out of my office it slams shut behind me with the door still locked. So all of my keys, purse, phone, lap top, breast pump with expressed milk… EVERYTHING!!!
I lunge for the small lock box near our bathrooms to find a key for my office only to try every single one and not find it. I bent the hell out of my secretary’s letter opener and a 25% discount card that our company used to give out to customers. This bitch wouldn’t budge.
My secretary thankfully had Rex Lock & Safe on file and thankfully they take P.O. #‘s. THANKFULLY!!!
«Rex» showed up with in a half hour and about a half hour after showing up had the door opened and a new lock with two keys ready to go. One safely in the office lock box down the hall near the bathrooms and one on my key chain.
You never feel more stupid until the moment you lock yourself out of something. It isn’t everyday that you or others around you lock themselves out of places. (If they do, get new friends).
I rarely think of a locksmith. Until that moment of complete dread and your absolute stupidity. Thank god for locksmiths. They are the most wonderful people when you need them.
Great customer service very fast and no B.S. about it. They are in and they are out, and you are back in. Thank God! Oh and thank «Rex» too.
