Clayton Valley Shell

While the mechanics there are very friendly, the money I spent there was not spent well. I brought my car in with no idea what was wrong with it and relied on them to figure it out so I could have them fix it. However, after paying for repairs suggested by them, my car was still not fixed. I took my car back and asked for a full diagnostic because it still wasn’t running right. According to them they couldn’t figure out what else might be wrong with my car. However they did suggest repairs to the car unrelated to the problem. I agreed, trusting that they knew what they were doing. The repairs ended up being in the $ 500 range, but did not do anything to solve the problem I had with the car. Since they couldn’t fix my car, a friend of mine suggested his mechanic who he had been going to for years. I took my car to the new mechanic and in less than a day not only did he figure out what the problem was (the spark plug wires needed to be replaced) but my car is running like a dream. This seems like a problem any mechanic would be able to identify if they did a full diagnostic, which is what I requested when I brought it back a second time. As someone who doesn’t know anything about cars I rely on the mechanics to not only fix the problem, but to give me a fair deal which I feel they didn’t do (I seriously wonder if the unrelated repairs were even needed). I will not be relying on them again should I have a problem with my car.
In response to the owner:
I don’t believe you planning to tow my car has any relevance to the fact that the problem wasn’t found or fixed the first two times I brought the car in. Not to mention I came to pick the car up a second time in November and found that the car was still not running properly so I brought it back immediately. Then I talked to Gary on Dec. 3^rd when I was informed that the only possible problem you could find had to do with the ignition, I was given an estimate and I gave Gary the go ahead on the repairs. If I not only picked up the car in Nov but also talked to Gary at the beginning of December how could the car be abandoned for 2 months? Either way I brought my car there 3 times and the problem was not figured out or fixed. That to me is the issue, since from what I have found the problem should have been spotted the first time I brought the car in.

Clayton Valley Shell is where we’ve taken our cars for service in the decade we’ve lived here. Honest, never try to upsell, and once they even paused midrepair when I found that a costly repair they were about to start on was in fact still under warranty. So they completed the other stuff and I took it to the dealer. Professional and kind – always – and close to home!

My car showed the battery light in the message center of my car. I took it to Clayton Valley Shell because they fixed my car before. They checked my car (Gary) and first said it was the battery only. Gary said he would call me to tell me the price. They charged me 199.00 for the battery 62.50 for them to check it and 47.60 to replace it (labor). The total came to 327.99. I signed and authorize it because I had no other option of replacing my battery at that time. 2 weeks later, the light comes on again. I take it in because I’m under warranty for the battery. Amir has 3 customers in line and he’s helping one customer and the phone rings. He answers it and starts to help the customer on the phone, instead of the one waiting in front of him. As he hangs up he dosent say I’m sorry for making you wait sir. He says when it’s my turn after checking the whole car that it’s the alternator and he could fix it but he couldn’t give me a price in person. He said he would call me later. Which he did 3 times. All I needed from him was to leave a voicemail about how much was the alternator was going to cost Instead he insisted on me coming back in and wasting my time waiting. I called Amir and asked about getting a refund and he just kept saying it was the battery that was bad first and now it’s the alternator. That they weren’t at fault and he was not going to give me a refund. I will never go to this shop again. I give it 0 stars they overcharge people for there parts, labor so they can make a profit. Amir is unprofessional and Gary needs help with his customer service skills. It wouldn’t kill him to smile. Amir reads each negative review and quickly comments to save the reputation of his business. If I could help one person to not make the same mistake I made by going to shell. I advise them to read the reviews on Unilocal before taking your vehicle to Amir.

I’ve been meaning to write a review for awhile. Having just slammed another local business, I figured I’d better write a positive one or you all might think I’m a curmudgeon.
We’ve been taking our family vehicles here for over 20 years, and for good reason. They’re honest, quick and do quality work. They’ve had plenty of opportunities to stick it to us if they were dishonest, and they never have. They keep records on our vehicles to track what they’ve done over time. They helped us teach our kids about the importance of regular maintenance. I definitely recommend Clayton Valley Shell. Oh yeah, check their website for coupons, you’ll save $$.

Unfortunately I have had to change my mind. Turns out my car had a more serious issue that was only found after $ 700 of ‘fixing’ did not fix. Reluctantly, I am now paying through the nose for another car and it’s servicing. Still get gas there, though.

I recently had a serious ‘emergency brake’ issue &, within 10 minutes, Gary resolved it, without a charge. These guys are great! Russ & Jem.

Had my truck in for a major tune-​up and filter/​fluids change service.
Amir and Gary are very nice to work with and the fellows in the service bays are very polite and friendly.
My truck runs smooth and has lots of horsepower, again.
The total price was even $ 80 or so less than the original estimate worked up by the shop over the phone the day before. That is always a nice surprise. And saved a lot of money over the Ford dealership prices.
I left my truck for the entire day, but it was ready by mid afternoon and they promptly called to let us know it was done.
If you need you can even pick up your vehicle after-​hours, in the evenings… as your paperwork and keys are transferred to the gas station kiosk after the service shop closes for the night. Very convenient if you need to do so.

My car broke down on Ygnacio Valley Rd and I had it towed to Clayton Valley Shell as it was the closest garage in the area and would be the cheapest tow. I told Gary, the technician, that everybody thought it was the Alternator but what do they or I know; we’re not the professionals. I, mistakenly assumed, that Gary would diagnose the car and do the proper repairs. Gary, instead, simply changed the alternator and gave me back my car ”fixed”. Driving home from Shell, that same day, I, again, broke down. The car was still exhibiting the EXACT SAME symptoms it had before Gary worked on it. Not to mention I was charged $ 733 to fix an alternator which is a $ 200+ part that he charged 400+ for and $ 200 in labor!!! RIDICULOUS RIP OFF especially since the car AGAIN broke down. I will NEVER go back to this garage and will tell everybody I know to STEER CLEAR of this place. Horribly disappointed. What a joke. LUCKILY, Raymonds Automotive in Hayward took care of me. They PROPERLY diagnosed my car and found a laundry list of items including a bad battery cable which is what was draining the battery and alternator and causing my car to break down. It is now fixed and runs like a champ, NO THANKS to Clayton Valley Shell. Lastly, do you think Gary offered to reimburse me for his BAD handy work? NO… not for a minute. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND HARD EARNED MONEY HERE.

I will NEVER be a customer again! Today my son stopped for gas and had car trouble. We got his car into a parking spot and as we headed out to auto part store a very rude man approached and told him «you see the sign? No parking! Be gone by morning or I will tow you!» He never offered help or assistance it even advice. Then at Noon when we returned to fix the problem, a woman yelled at me for parking when the tanker was there. I had no idea there were rules about parking relevant a tanker. Again, no service from her at all. The manager took my complaint but it was clear to me the man and woman were probably owners and there was noting he could do. Too bad. Been a customer with four drivers in my house for years. Never again!

I originally had a negative experience here. I was then contacted by the owner who was very pro active and resolved the situation.
I think that it is great when a owner steps up that accepts responsibility and takes ownership.

Let me tell you why I rated this 5 stars. I stopped by to get some gas. While filling up, I went into the waiting room and looked out and noticed that some of the technicians or mechanics were going up to cars at the pumps and helping the drivers. They were wiping windows, lifting the hood, and especially attentive to seniors.
I asked the gentleman behind the desk (Gary) where the owner was as I wanted to complement him on the nostalgia performance. He respond, he’s the one that is helping that elderly woman back into her car. (I noticed he was checking tires and asking her if she needed anything else). When he came back into the reception area, we briefly chatted. His name is Amir. He explained that when ever his technicians aren’t busy, they are to be out on the pumping islands assisting customers.
Then a client who was in the shop, talking to the service writer turned to me and said, they are always like that and I’ve been coming here for years. It turns out he was a state senator. Now that’s an endorsement!

I pump gas here EVERYDAY, the price is okay but the gasoline last for a good amount of time

This station goes above and beyond to provide excellent and friendly service. Gary is the greatest. He has patiently explained every detail I ask him about and has let me know the exact information on cost, recommendations, and outcomes.
Peter is a wonderful mechanic and among other things solved a very elusive problem I had with wheel noise several months ago. He is obviously proud of his work and goes to great lengths to make the job right.
When I needed help this last time I used their online form to tell them the problem and set up a time to have the troubleshooting done. This was late at night on a weekend. I got an answer and advice from Amir within a couple of hours. That was way beyond what I expected.
I will always come to this station and recommended it to anyone who needs help with their vehicles.

Went there because my truck didn’t pass smog and I didn’t want to go through the hassle of driving to my regular mechanic in San Francisco. I had a print out of exactly what was wrong with my truck yet was quoted by Gary $ 228 for a diagnostic and $ 373.52 for the repair. I asked him why should I pay for a diagnostic when I have a printout of exactly what was wrong. He said fine then just pay for the repair. I didn’t like that answer so decided to make the drive to SF to see my regular mechanic. I was charged $ 154 to fix the sensor and had my truck back in 45 minutes. I will NEVER go to Shell for repairs again.

Many a time people ask, why do you send your car to Concord when you live in San Francisco? Here are my reasons.
1) They are always friendly.
2) They remember who I am.
3)The waiting room is clean and comfortable.
4) Clayton Valley Shell always takes responsibility and pride in their work.
5) They are honest.
My family has been using their services for years now and I find it nerve racking to change mechanics. So I stick the Clayton Valley Shell.

EVERYONE here is nice and more importantly, they all seem honest… that’s right. I’ve actually used the term «honest» when writing a review about a mechanic. I’ll give you a moment to let that sink in. …
My car was making strange noises. I took it to the shop; it ended up being my rotors and brakes that needed to be changed. They were so efficient and detail. The mechanic called me within the hour to give me a quote, which was completely reasonable. Then in a couple hours my car was ready.
The shop is very clean, and the customer service is amazing. You are not a number; they treat you as if it was their own car.
They have also answered so many of my little questions about my car– why it acts the way it does, whats normal vs. not normal etc. Since I pretty much, just expect to put the key in the ignition and want it to start. Not knowing what else is connected to what. I just don’t know what the strange sounds are or what needs to be fixed when. However, they were so patient, professional and most important Really nice guys.
They’ll be my mechanics from now on– and they should be yours too.

I was so glad to find an affordable, and speedy mechanic in town that I can trust, but I don’t live here now.
Every time I brought my car here Garry and the staff have been very helpful. They don’t add any «fluff» (unnecessary stuff) here — they just tell you what you need and how much it’s going to cost you.
I have done major maintenance and repairs here and I’ve always been very happy afterward. Their prices are very reasonable and the work they do is an «A+»

Clayton Valley Shell is an honest shop with great customer service. They maintain my company landscape trucks and do a great job. They are conveniently located near our shop in Clayton and the price is right.

This place is close to my work. I usually take my car here for oil change and other maintenance problems. They do a good job, Gary does a great job of explaining the problem my car has and giving me different options to go about fixing it.
Another thing I really like about CVS, is the fact that the owner gives me ride to my work/​home if my car has to stay over for hours! So overall the customer service is excellent.
