History

Established in 1975.

Dr. Jay Messinger is 4th generation optometrist whose family began practicing in 1889. Dr. Messinger’s father, uncle, grandfather, great uncle and great grandfather were optometrists who practiced in New York and Pennsylvania. The Compton office was purchased from Dr. Robert Alpert in 1975 where Dr. Messinger has practiced for the past 38 years.

Dr. Messinger serves on multiple committees for the California Optometric Association and is involved in Optometric politics as a strong advocate for his profession. His hobbies are travel, photography, sculpture and landscaping. The office manager of over 20 years is Armando Rivas, business office manager is Vicky Marquez. Vicky and the eyewear department manager Karla Berrillo each have been with the office for over 10 years.

Been going here since I was 9 and I’m now 30. Always a pleasure. Dr. Is awesome and the office is always nice and clean. It’s changed over the years but the service is still amazing. I will continue to go here.

Amazing, great tentative service from the first phone call I placed to them to, to the doctor, to picking out my glasses. Over the phone they are very nice and professional. They also call you on the day of and days leading up to your appointment to remind you of it which I think is great. Dr. Jay Messinger was so great. He listened to everything I had to say, which was a lot, and paid great attention and helped me out so much. Then when picking out glasses I was very picky and asked to try out so many pairs and the girl helping me out did not get annoyed and was patient and very nice. Everyone was of great service. I loved this place so much. I haven’t received my glasses yet but I am utterly grateful for their help n service. I finally found a permanent Doctor. Last year I went to Walmart optometrist and they were horrid, at least to me.

I have been going to Dr. Messinger’s since I was in high school 20+ years ago. I continue to go to them even though I know longer live in the area because they have wonderful service and are extremely friendly. I would recommend anyone to go to them because they will not be disappointed.

All of my children & family went to Dr. Messinger over the years. My son received his first of many eyeglasses starting at age 6;he’s 47 yrs. Old now.
I went to this office and my great grandson age 7 went to Dr. Messinger’s office recently & I was shocked at how the office was operating. People with appointments waiting outside because the waiting room was overflowing; initial eye examination «room» with 2 tables with no privacy. It didn’t matter about our appointment time because approximately 15+ people had the same scheduled time.
The office pushes you to purchase very expensive frames. It’s all about money, money, money. The positive thing I noticed was the equipment is modern and up to date.
Unfortunately & sadly because of the «milling» of patients I will not be a patient of this office anymore.

I ordered my refill contact prescription on 4÷28÷15 an to this day 5÷22÷2015 they still don’t have it worst service ever i had to get refund because they wanted me to wait 4 – 5 more days to get them i don’t understand why tell you’re customers that they will have them 7 – 10 days and take an entire month to actually receive them. Never giving coming back to this place again.

It’s a great place there up to date on glasses and it’s very nice and clean. And most of all I got my glasses in about 1week.
Why better then sears… Sears never calls you. And the Glasses get there super late.

Wow what can i say? Dr. Messinger has been my optometrist for about 17 years. Back in the days when it was just him and one other optometrist at the office. His staff has grown and i am still frequenting due the excellant customer service, attention to detail, and the all around health of my eyes which is their main goal. The girls in the front are great (Espi, Rita, Josie, Mary, Sarah and a few more) Armando has been there many years and is an all-​around allstar. I love this place and will continue to go. I love my City, and these types of businesses are what we need! Longevity, good service, and concern.
