History

Established in 2009.

Short North Tattoo was founded in 2009 and was acquired in 2015 by Matt Carlisle, an artist who started working at Short North Tattoo in 2012. Short North Tattoo has four full time artists; Matt Carlisle, Ben Chambers, John Miller, and Josh Kendrick. Located at 1042 N. High St. Columbus, OH 43 201, in the Short North Arts District, Short North Tattoo features a spacious, inviting gallery and a full working tattoo studio operating under the most current sterility procedures and techniques. The gallery features a permanent collection and a rotating monthly exhibit. Short North Tattoo participates in the monthly Short North Gallery Hop, premiering new exhibits the first Saturday of every month. Striving to include the community and local artists, submissions are always welcome from interested participants in group shows, and for consideration for solo exhibits. Please stop in and see what makes this gallery unique

Meet the Business Owner

Matt Carlisle C.

Business Owner

I started tattooing in 2011 after working as a medic at OSU Medical Center in the acute coronary, interventional cardiology, and the trauma departments for about 8 years. I love the fast paced environment of interventional and emergency healthcare – but at the end of the day, it is not what I want to bring home with me every day. I appreciate the freedom that tattooing has given me and I am very thankful and grateful that I was given a chance to walk away from a career in healthcare and follow my dreams.

I started tattooing at Short North Tattoo in 2012 shortly after I finished my apprenticeship. I have worked in a few shops around the city of Columbus and I have had the opportunity to work as a guest artist in many different cities across the country. In the summer of 2015, I had the opportunity of a lifetime to become the owner and operator of Short North Tattoo.

Life is only what you make of it…
