Always friendly when I’m shopping and ready to answer any questions I may have. The previous homeowner had a cat and it seems the cat liked to claw at the window screens. I know it would be cheaper to do the screen replacements myself but I can’t ever seem to find the time. $ 36 per screen and they have them ready for me within a few days.

Nice for the basics when you don’t want to go to a large store like Lowes or Home Depot. I can usually find what I am looking for in a few minutes. The customer service is great, some of the items are over priced like a 4 pk of Charmin about $ 3 for the little rolls. Most of the Hardware and paint is a fair price. When they have a sale it is a good sale. They also send out great coupons if you are on the rewards program. It helps also that it is in walking distance. I love it.

Another reason to buy local. I needed to rent a chain saw. I called Lowes who told me they rented chain saws. After I arrived at the store I stood in line at the service counter for 20 minutes while the one person at the SERVICE counter answered phones, took returns and rented tools. When it was my turn they informed me they did not rent chain saws. He said he did not know who answered the phone. No sorry or any concern. I headed over to my local ACE hardware. Not only did they rent chain saws, but they were quick and very friendly. The following day My wife had an emergence surgery so I did not get the opportunity to return the chain saw. When I mentioned why I did not return the saw within 24 hours, they not only appeared concerned for my wife but they only charged me for a one day rental. Lowes waisted 1hour of my time and could care less. Ace respected me as a customer. ACE will always be my first stop for any hardware needs…

I had such an unfortunate, and completely avoidable, experience at this ACE today. I work for an art gallery that is part of a local educational institution. We have a lot of options when it comes to purchasing but today we decided to go small, locally-owned and support this ACE. The store itself is fine. A fair amount of selection crammed tightly into a small space. We found what we needed and made the purchase. We dropped our heavy bags off at the car parked in the lot adjacent and ran quickly into the coffee shop next door. We were in there no more than 15 minutes(coffee shop can attest) and ACE had called to have our car towed. The only signage in the lot, which is painted on the parking curbs, says«ACE parking only». There is no time-limit signage or anything additional to indicate that if you patronize ACE and then do any other, even quick, shopping in the area that you will be towed. We spoke to the employees and explained we had been customers of the store no more than 20 minutes prior. We asked if there was anything they could do to help. The employees deferred to the manager. We spoke to the store manager«JC»(a.k.a. John as stated on his nametag) and he was so rude. Very dismissive. Totally unapologetic. Gave no indication of care that we had just patronized his business and with our purchases had used their parking lot. We left without much of a fuss, really just trying to get a grasp on the situation and understand why and how our car was towed. Waiting for a ride from a friend, we began talking more and decided to try to talk to JC(John) again or at least ask for his business card to follow up. We waited politely in the store for him to finish helping a customer. He went to the back and didn’t return until another employee paged him for us. When he got to the front, JC(John) escorted us outside to speak(in a bit of an aggressive manor, but okay, fine). We very calmly asked questions just to clarify the situation and understand why, if we were customers of their business, we were still towed. He stated that because we were not in the store at the time we were towed, it was completely fine(both legally [which is true, yes] and ethically). We asked why it was not okay, «were we inhibiting other customers from parking in one of the 18 spots?» JC(John) said that was beside the point(not really answering the question, knowing we were the only car in the lot at the time). After that he said he had nothing left to say and stormed inside. We remained calm and simply inquisitive the whole time. Willing to listen to JC’s(John’s) responses and trying to understand the situation. We were perfectly willing to secede that yes, at the time of towing we were not in the ACE store, etc. But, JC(John) never answered any of our questions directly and his body language, with wild, big movements, and aggressive tone of voice were so offensive and unnecessary. Luckily, the store employee who paged him for us was able to provide us with his business card as well as the owner’s card. We will be contacting the owner directly to file a complaint both about the towing issue and the store manager’s behavior and response. Additionally, the 4 Schreiner ACE hardwares(High St, Parsons Ave, Grandview and Worthington) have lost all of our future business.

The selection is pretty specialized and seasonally dependent(which is understandable given the smaller size than big box store hardware stores. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and even helped us to load up 12 bags of soil into our car. This is agreat local business with reasonable prices

My go-to. The staff always greets you upon walking in, especially when you have the«Oh, dear god, what have I stepped into. I know nothing about hardware!» It is easy-peasy to find anything in the store, especially with the staff assisting you. Not to mention it’s any easy COTA ride to get to. Just get off @ High/Hudson. Driving? Don’t fret — parking is on the right side of the building in the alley! I have made keys here, bought stuff to tape up a broken car window, and just simply looked around in fascination of stuff I have no idea what it’s used for. Oh, and did I mention they offer free coffee at the front desk? Nothin fancy, but still, how nice.

Don’t think I’ve ever walked in without them offering to help me find something. Ever courteous, ever knowledgeable, and great to have nearby when I realize I need an anchor bolt for something. Well-rounded selection of tools, electrical, plumbing, and other hardware necessities.

There is something about this location that draws me to it. I know one big factor is the layout. It has this very cozy kind of atmosphere, despite being a hardware store, that is unlike most places you’d visit. It is a multilevel space, and they really cram in the products. It has an earthy/woodsy feel whereas big box places like Lowe’s or Home Depot have more of an industrial feel. There is off-street parking so if you’re driving here, you don’t have to park on the street. The customer service has always been stand-out. Helpful, attentive and knowledgeable.

As corporate as the Ace franchise may be, there’s something about shopping at Schreiner’s Ace that makes you feel good inside. The store is simple to navigate, the prices are always competitive, and the staff here is knowledgeable and helpful without being pushy or sales-oriented. As the Ace slogan goes, this friendly North Campus hardware store truly is «The helpful place.» Being situated in the middle of a very pedestrian-oriented neighborhood, location is everything for Schreiner’s Ace. The days where you could walk a block or two to do all of your Saturday errands may be gone, but picking up a set of keys or the tools you need for a weekend project is still within the realm of possibility thanks to this store. It’s obviously not even 1⁄8 the size of the Lowe’s located a mile up Hudson, but when you take away all the lumber, kitchen sets, and appliances that the big box stores have to offer, Schreiner’s still manages to stock just about everything you’d ever need.

While this isn’t store isn’t as large and doesn’t have the selection of a Lowe’s or Home Depot, it definately has it’s advantages. First is it’s location: there aren’t any other hardware stores on high street or as easily accessable via COTA as this one. Second, as an Ace Hardware affiliate, it really is «The helpful place.» The clerks aren’t intrusive, but if you have a question they’re right there, with useful ideas and information on how to complete your project. Worth your patronage.
