Kung Fu Tea

A great place for hangout!!! Definitely have to try their milk tea! I’ve had all their milk tea and my favorite milk tea is the oolong milk tea and the winter melon milk green tea. The texture of the bubble is very soft and chewy. Don’t miss the bubble if you’re getting the milk tea. I also like the peach oolong and the pineapple tea. You can adjust your sugar level and the ice level.

I was surprised to see a tea house open in Columbus, and very thankful it did. It’s tucked away in the corner of Kenny Center, between all the jazzercise and salon shops. There’s an electronic menu near the front window so you have time to read it and decide what you’d like before even entering. The lighting is ample, and there are plenty of wall outlets on the back wall/​booth if you wanted to bring a laptop or tablet and do assignments/​work.
I’ve tried every milk tea drink offered and some of their coffee/​espresso options as well. Each drink teas a few minutes to prepare. The tea is sweet and flavorful. The coffee is robust with subtle flavor notes. The only drink I didn’t care for was the oreo milk tea.
Definitely want to try their punches and slushies.

When ordering at this place you have to make sure you get something you truly like, there are a lot of good tea items on the menu, but a few bad apples. My first experience with this place want good, I got the almond milk tea and I realized it wasn’t for me, it tasted soapy, after a few more visits my favorite is the peach oolong tea (: its a good place to chill. This is favorite bubble tea place in Columbus.

Best bubble tea place in Columbus. Weekend can be very busy. So if you don’t like waiting, call ahead.

My first time heard about the Kung Fu Tea is in Chicago Chinatown; however, I haven’t had a chance to try it. I’m surprised to see another one in Columbus. The Classic Milk Tea is my to go favorite. This time I try the Oreo Milk Tea, which is added in a little crump of Oreo. Their Sunshine Pineapple Tea have a touch of sourness and it’s quite different from the milk tea.
I like that they have different option for iciness, coldness and sweetness. Make sure you try different drink if you become regular.

My first bubble tea was this oolong milk tea with bubbles today at Kung Fu Tea. I got it with regular amounts of sweetness and ice. You can also get more, less, half, or even no sweetness, so it’s really customizable to your tastes. I thought the regular was just right. It seems a little odd to me that bubbles are a topping and cost 50 cents extra at a place known for bubble tea. If you don’t pay the 50 cents, it’s just tea.
With nothing to compare to, I’d say the bubbles were a good texture and taste and worth getting. Apparently there are some nasty ones out there. We were all playing the game of trying to get the last of the bubbles out after finishing the drink. Hint: pull your straw out and turn it upside down. The pointed end that pokes through the lid is not conducive to getting the last bubbles, but the flat side works well!
This place was packed the entire time we were there. After ordering, we realized based on the numbers they were calling out that we’d be waiting a while: about 12 orders were ahead of ours. Despite that, it still seemed to come out pretty quickly. For how busy they were, there wasn’t quite enough seating, although many people were only sitting until their drinks came out.

What a unique place! The name King Fu Tea (Kung Fu Tze) is pretty awesome as well.
This is a fun shop to get a drink and chat with friends. They specialize in bubbles. They look like marbles in the bottom of your drink, but they have the texture of tapioca. There are many other add ins for your drink but the bubbles makes for a really unique drink.
We met up with some friends and were introduced to this really cool drink place. There was a solid line and non stop drinks the entire time we were there. This place was busy, but the drinks come pretty quickly.
Order:
Oolong milk tea w/​bubbles — a milk beverage with oolong tea and of course the bubbles
Red bean slush w/​bubbles — the red bean was mildly sweet. It was like a frappuccino.

Bubble tea is delicious! I love that they’re open later because i always get off work late. I’ve tried many drinks here and haven’t had one i didn’t like. There are tons of variety so I’m sure there’s something everyone will like. I’m a bit of a plain Jane so my favorite has always been the lychee bubble tea no jelly.

This plaza just got even better with Kung Fu Tea’s arrival! I’m glad there’s a new place closer to where I live so I can get my hands on boba so much easier.
I ordered the lychee punch, which I was hesitant about initially, but it was an okay drink. They didn’t have lychee jelly, so I opted for the pineapple jelly instead. It wasn’t too great, leaving my drink with a milky look and aftertaste. The location is small but just perfect for catching up with a friend over some tea and boba.

I’ve tried Kung Fu Tea in Dallas, Atlanta, and DC and finally we have one in Columbus as well. Hands down the best bubble tea in town.

Before I get into the details, I want to say I had a fabulous first time experience here. The ladies behind the counter where helpful in describing what jellies are; I also did not know the difference in flavor between green tea and the black tea. I’m set now!
I made my own concoction: Coconut Black Tea with milk and balls. That’s balls of the tapioca kind. Geez! Clean minds, folks. Thank you. I got several extra scoops of tapioca pearls. I like them. No, really I love them. There’s a few spots around town that have distasteful pearls (literally, they leave a fowl after-​taste on your tongue), so I was pumped when they told me of their cooking process that involves honey, amongst a few other key ingredients.
The end product was quite good. Diverted from my regular peach green tea with lots of balls, and was glad I ventured out and tried the black tea. More pronounced tea flavor. Worked for me!
There are other drinks that caught my eye (Slushies, other fruit bubble teas, etc). This establishment has more tea choices and variations, compared with my go-​to ZenCha. So I like to think I’ll make the trip back up here in time. It’s a bummer there’s no Kung Fu Tea out east!

I’m glad to see another bubble tea option in Columbus. While generally speaking I’m not a fan of chain restaurants, there’s something to be said of a successful business mode. They’re doing something right! There’s also usually an aspect of quality control in the product and you get what you order.
I thought the bubble tea from Kung Fu Tea Twas pretty good. Granted this is based on only one almond bubble tea, but it was milky and delicious. The tapioca balls were soft and slightly sweet. They have a variety of flavors. I think i’ll still give Zencha the nod when it comes to bubble tea, in terms of tea quality, but it’s close. I think Kung Fu Tea’s drinks tend to be sweeter and more creamy.
The nice thing about Kung Fu Tea is that you can customize the amount of ice and sweetness of each drink. This saves you from an unsweet or overly sugary drink. In terms of pricing, a large bubble tea is ~ $ 5.50. So pricing is pretty comparable with other places. The wait was a bit longer than i’d like, but I think they’re still working things out after just opening. Anyways, Kung Fu Tea is definitely a good bubble tea spot.

I stopped by here per the recommendation of a few friends that this shop had pretty decent boba. Given the otherwise lack thereof in Columbus, I figured I might as well give it a shot. Worst case scenario, I’m back where I started.
The first thing that caught my eye (asides from the opening-​week BOGO sale) was the fact that they serve mung bean drinks. I am a diehard mung bean fan, and have definitely gone out of my way to go get mung bean desserts (I swear I don’t forcibly drag my fiancé into stores/​restaurants just for that reason…), so obviously, that was the drink to get (aka Green Wow Milk, which is milk tea with mung bean and boba). As per always, I ordered mine with less sugar (25%) and no ice.
Verdict? The boba’s not bad, but the drink itself is pretty meh. The mung-​bean factor added a star for me, but it’s still only maybe a 3.5÷5 on a good day. It doesn’t have a very strong tea flavor, and still felt a bit too sweet (even with the reduced sugar). Prices are also high for the size/​quality, but I guess that’s to be expected for the Midwest.
Although I haven’t tried any of their other drinks, I do give them credit for variety (wintermelon and ginger? Okay, you at least have my attention). Quality will have to be judged on another day.
All in all, still not somewhere I’d go out of my way to frequent (even if I’m having crazy milk tea cravings), but it’s worth stopping by if I’m already in the area and in the mood. Plus… mung bean. I can’t hate a place that serves mung bean.

I stopped in here while I was visiting in Columbus. I guess they were only opened for a few days, but it was packed! I love bubble tea, and I was sad to hear that most of the bubble tea cafes had closed in Columbus. So I was super excited to hear about Kung Fu Tea opening! The service was fast, the servers were kind, and the bubble tea was great! I think that they sweeten the bubbles, which was really good (especially for my friends who don’t really care of bubbles, they thought these tasted better). I got the taro milk tea with bubbles, and I am excited to back and try the different flavors. I do wish that they had thai milk tea though.

Do I have to explain myself of this hidden gem of a franchise? I’m so glad that there is a franchise bubble tea here in Columbus (other than the ones started in Columbus– i.e. Bubbles) Kung fu tea has franchises in bigger states such as TX and NY. So you can say I was surprised to see it in our small town. Although I do support the whole «shop local small business» ordeal, some things need to be left up to those who have gone through trial-​and-​error to perfect such a marvelous concoction. With that being said, I think KFT has the best bubbles/​boba tea in Columbus. My favorite thing to get is the green milk tea. The bubbles are cooked to perfection with no raw insides. Yes, they take a while, but you can’t hurry love. Oh, you’ll just have to wait.

I’m a self-​proclaimed bubble tea addict. I drink it way more than I’d like to admit: D
It’s nice to have an alternative to ZenCha, which is my number one place for boba in all the land. I’ve figured out when is the best time to go to ZC, so I typically don’t have a problem with parking or it being busy (in and out in under 5 minutes), but it is nice that I don’t have to worry about paying for parking at Kung Fu. It’s also in a more convenient place for me, as I do most of my work in Upper Arlington.
I’ve been to Kung Fu about 3x now, and the wait is a little longer than I’m used to but it’s not bad. The longest has been 15 minutes because they were waiting on more bubbles, that’s fine, I’ve made my own and know they’re kind of a process. I’ve only tried the Almond Milk tea here, and it’s actually quite refreshing. At first sip I thought it was a little bland but it’s not. They have lots of flavors and types but their milk tea selection is a bit limited… I wish there were more fruity milk tea flavors, but maybe you can combine the fruit teas and milk teas? I don’t know, I guess I should ask. My usual at ZenCha is Peach, but the Almond will probably be my standard here. Bubbles are cooked well and pretty well flavored with honey, which is nice when mixed in with the liquid.
Price wise it is a bit steep. ZC I pay $ 9.40 for 2 teas with extra bubbles (I told you I have an addiction), whereas that’s $ 11 something at KFT. So I’ll probably come here on days I really have a hankering for bubble tea but can’t make it down to the Short North. Definitely a good backup.
I think this place will be massively successful in this location with Tensuke, Akai Hana, Belle’s Bread, etc. all over here. Columbus is in the need for more bubble tea places, and Kung Fu certainly fills that void.

I stopped by here after a noodle break at Tensuke. I love taro slushes with bubbles — I miss my days in college when we would all go to Joy Yee’s in Chicago and get slushes! I haven’t found one in Columbus that I was terribly impressed with.
This place is good, not great. I think they’re still working out a few kinks — it was kind of a long wait for just one slush and a not very busy store. The slush hit the spot and the bubbles were cooked well, not too much and not too little. I like the idea that you can adjust the sweetness level, although I didn’t try it. They have a decent sized menu, nothing gargantuan.
I will be back to try some more and hopefully they will be more streamlined!

I’ve been hearing about the hype from my friends about Kung Fu Tea since it opened. Being from California, I’ve grown to drinking hella bubble tea and after I moved, I was pretty bummed when I found out there are barely any places in Ohio that sells good bubble tea. I’ve tried it at restaurants and none has ever met my expectations. So coming to KFT, I was pretty excited.
My family and I ordered 4 drinks. The wait for the drinks took at least 10 minutes, but since they just opened I’m not too anal about it. After getting the drinks, I got into the car and stabbed my straw through the lid and took my first sip. The drink I got was the milk green tea. I didn’t know how to feel about it after taking that first sip, but a while later I couldn’t stop drinking it. It has a nice subtle flavor. Not too sweet which is perfect for me. The bubbles in the drink were soft and chewy which is what I love.
After tasting my drink, I took a sip from my mom’s Lychee Punch and scrunched my face right after. The lychee flavor was not what I was expecting. I was expecting it to be sweet, but it was still good nonetheless. It looks like they blended in real lychees into the tea which is a plus. Continuing on my tasting spree, I asked my dad for his Taro Milk Tea and sipped it. The taro flavor is too strong for my liking but my dad seems to enjoy it.
The fourth drink was the Passion Fruit GT. Unfortunately I couldn’t take a sip from it because it was my mother’s friend’s drink, but the guy at the cashier said that the drink is pretty good so I’ll take his word for it.
Overall, I’d say that KFT is pretty darn good. I will definitely come back again to try out more flavors on their menu.

Just opened up, so I’m not sure if the flavor and/​or service will change over time. But it shhooouuuldddd stay consistent as this place is a chain (though I’m not sure where from originally, I know there’s one in Chicago’s Chinatown).
At the time of writing, there’s only two other reviews, with them being on opposite sides of the spectrum. I’d agree with both, this place having both good and bad aspects, but ended up with a higher rating simply because I think this has been my favorite place in columbus.
Like another mentioned, the tea itself doesn’t really have much tea flavor. It is a very creamy taste. Some may like that, others won’t. Tbh, I’m guessing it is geared to a more western palette. That said, it’s probably why I enjoy the tapioca pearls/​bubbles so much. It’s not straight tapioca, as it’s been boiled/​soaked in sugar/​honey so they’re super flavorful just by themselves. The tapioca is definitely the star of the bubble tea. The consistency on them is most definitely the best in Columbus. Perfect amount of softness/​chewiness without being mushy. As with all bubbles, they’ll get hard if you leave it for too long, especially in the fridge. True here too, but I found it to be a slower process than other places so you can keep your bubble tea longer.
I’ve had the regular milk tea and also the red wow tea, which is basically the regular tea with less pearls and more red bean. The latter was definitely good, just a little too much red bean… made the whole tea texture a little thicker.
Also nice is you can specify ice and sugar amounts… which is great for me as I never get more than half sugar.

Came in today because friends were talking about how a bubble tea place finally opened by tensuke market.
The line was really long because they just opened, but it was worth the wait. My boyfriend got a strawberry milk slush with bubbles which tasted like a yummy strawberry ice cream blend. I got the matcha milk with bubbles which was a really strong tea blend with the milk, but still really good. They also soak their bubbles in honey so they’re fluffy and sweet.
They’re tea overall is creamier than most places, which I like, but they also have juice like teas on their menus that I want to try.
Definitely would recommend!
