King Avenue Five

This is definitely my new favorite hangout in Columbus just off campus. A buddy of mine and myself go here every saturday like clockwork!
They have decent drink specials and a fun atmosphere with plenty of screens to watch a game and a shuffleboard table which is not usually busy, which is a bug plus for me.
I dont see how this bar isn’t pcked daily but thats honestly one of my favorite parts about it. That and the chicken wings of course. Both the bone-​in and boneless are perfect! I like every single sauce but the two best are probably shanghai and firey hot. Its hard for me to order any other flavors but when i do i love them as well! And the mozzarella skewers are a MUST appetizer.

The service was definitely slow. We sat at a table for 15 minutes before anyone came by. And they weren’t busy. The food was not great. I had nachos and there was an odd flavor with the onions and tomatoes.

Decided to give this place a shot on a Saturday night. We open the door, and the odor a foot is filling the air. This immediately would have turned us away, but also when we had walked in I felt like the music just stopped and it was like the scene from Animal House. The only people in the entire restaurant were staggered around the bar 3 of which whom seemed to be employed at this «establishment». We proceeded to join the regulars at the bar and can tell that we were treated like they bartender didn’t expect us to come back… My burger was overcooked and my wife’s chicken tenders were freezer burnt. Place is an embarrassment and I can see why nobody was there during a Saturday evening. Don’t make the same mistake we made and don’t bother giving this place a try.

The worst and most disappointing service I’ve experience. I’ve been sitting here for 45 minutes without a server stopping by and the wrong order of food sitting in front of me. We’re here to drink and eat but haven’t been served more than one beer. Don’t waste your time here.

Great sportsbar! Looking for a good crowd and a place to watch a game, come here. Plenty of places to sit and to get a good view of a TV. I was in the area and wanted to grab a few drinks somewhere and stumbled to this location. Good first impressions. Great weekly specials that can keep your bar tab slim. We didnt eat since we had other dinner plans. The menu was your typical bar food and nothing to get too excited about. This location is easy to access and the staff was welcoming and very nice. Will definitely come back.

This used to be the place to watch a NFL game, not sure what has happenned though it has went downhill. Food just ok, service mediocre and they don’t play well with their audience. Meaning if their are a lot of fans from a certain team you should be playing their game on a big screen. Not just playing the team you like. I will be going elsewhere for my next NFL Sunday.

I have been coming to this place for at least 8 years now and I have to say it is only for the people and drinks. I really want the food to be better but it keeps getting worse.
I have worked in the restaurant industry most of my adult life and I have never seen such a backwards step when it comes to food in both quality and offerings. To start, there is not a signature item on the menu. There is not that item that makes people say, «I am craving „x“ lets go there tonight.» That is key to food success in a competitive industry.
Next, the quality of the food is average. Nothing too bad but nothing great. To be honest, I think most people could replicate it all at home. Who wants to pay money for something they can do at home? For example, on an Ohio State game day there is a special menu. A friend ordered their Italian sausage sandwich with fries. The description made it sound amazing… topped with peppers and onions on a mini hoagie roll. What it was, was a brat on a hot dog bun with the tinniest amount peppers and onions under the sausage with a pile of over salted fries. The presentation alone made the dish look like it was going to taste bland. It would have taken no extra time to put the peppers and onions on top and give it some flare however, the taste was as bad as it looked. Just nothing special at all. The same day I ordered a burger and was immediately told that there could be no special orders like adding items to it besides a choice of cheese. I asked why and was told it was to speed up the game day service. If that is the case then you have the wrong people in the kitchen and the chef should be fired if there is one. A good chef worth their weight knows how to prep a variety of items for quick service on the busiest of days like a game day. Here is where a signature item or game day special would help too. Get people ordering that more and save the kitchen from getting in the weeds. The game day menu is really lacking in options and if you can get a burger, you should be able to get a chicken sandwich as well, but not the case. It all makes me wonder if the chef or head cook has any passion for the craft or if they are just collecting a paycheck. To be honest the food is uninspired, boring and bland. There is no reason a full menu cannot be offered on a game day. That is what the most successful restaurants do.
I love this place but it pains me to see the food option is almost not an option at all. When I go I know I have to eat before I do. This place can and should do better.

Average drinks, average food, average place. This is a convenient spot if you live in Grandview, but it isn’t worth going out of your way for. Also the parking is limited around the bar, so be warned you may not be able to find a place to put your car.
The patio is nice in the summer, and they have a decent selection of beer, but I wouldn’t come here for the food.

I was with a group from out of town looking for a spot with good food and beer to watch an NBA game. The TV setup was nice, the food was incredibly average, and the beer selection was sub par. Service was spotty. My friend got sick off the buffalo chicken sandwich. Point being, no reason to go here.

King Avenue 5 has one of the best rooms in the city for live music.
Nick Pavich, the owner, treats artists and bands fairly. He provides space for non-​profit organizations and other arts organizations that are trying to do something good for the community. He runs a great bar. The staff and service is always friendly and cool. The food and drinks are consistently excellent!

Great venue for bands. Went with a group of friends to see my friend perform on a Saturday night. There food is good, drinks aren’t badly priced. The staff is always nice and helpful.
The place is bigger than it looks.
I recommend getting there early if you want a parking place. It fills up fast.

Visited early on Thursday and was not disappointed. Friendly bartender. Off duty bartender we befriended was enthusiastic about working here and showed us the performance side if the bar before it opened. Very fun and decent prices on craft beer.

I’ve had some very different experiences here.
I went with some friends to see a concert here which I definitely didn’t know they did. It was awesome with plenty of room and cheap beer. I would definitely come back for a show I wanted to see.
However, prior to this I swore off this place as I came to watch a game during football season. The TV/​bars were great but we ordered wings and artichoke dip. It took 1.5 hours… Thats a LONG time for those items. I get that its busy on football game day but… geez. And no one checked in on us, filled us in on delay, or anything. We flagged someone down once and the said «I’ll check on it.» We decided to leave because it was taking so long and wanted to get somewhere with better service for the next game and we were stopped on the way out because «Your food just came out.» We decided to stay only to find out the food was cold. Not a fan of cold wings. So we asked for them to pack it to go and I reheated it for dinner later.
I wouldn’t mind going back to a concert here (4 stars) or to watch a game and drink (3 stars for your typical sports bar experience) but my dining experience was definitely 1 star. Plus no one apologized :-\. Rather everyone just seemed annoyed (again, I get that its busy but you are a sports bar on a Sunday… thats like your bread and butter, no?)

These guys are the best. They let me charge my phone and then promptly handed it back. The greatest of all prompt service.

I came in during halftime of the Superbowl this past Sunday to meet a couple friends. It is safe to say I would never step foot in this building again, even if it were the only safe house in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. There was not one thing that went well. The service was abysmal and the food was flat-​out horrendous.
When I first sat down and joined my two friends, it took 15 minutes and numerous waves to even get a server to come to our table. Fifteen minutes after I ordered my first drink (Ketel One, Soda, Sprite w/​a lime), the waitress comes back to notify me they are out of Ketel. I understand bars can run out of things, especially during a busy week, so I tell her no biggie and that Stoli will do just fine. Twenty minutes later, I finally get my drink without Sprite or limes. After trying to grab her attention numerous times, I give up and just finish my drink, hoping that if I remind her, she will get the next one right. She comes back for round two and this time we all need a round. I remind her to include Sprite and limes this time. She comes back twenty minutes later (now that we’re all parched) with only one drink. And hey at least it’s mine! But wait… still no limes. And she completely forgets about my friends’ beers. FAIL. At one point, I even had to reach across the bar for the soda gun to add Sprite to my own drink. After this exhausting routine, I finally give up and order a Bud Light bottle, simply for the fact that they cannot screw that up.
Now on to the food (if that’s what you want to call it)…
The boneless chicken wings we ordered were just downright disgusting. I’ve seen wood chips with more moisture. I’m pretty sure if you set them out in the rain, they would have expanded to the size of a car seat. Better option: Jack Links Beef Jerky… juicier and far more flavor. Ann Frank would not even them. The ‘soft’ pretzel was harder than an old man on Viagra at a porn convention. I could find a better pretzel on the floor of a movie theater.
And if that isn’t enough to scare you off…
I call King Ave. 5 first thing Monday morning because I realized I had left my charger plugged in behind the bar. I speak to the manager and he tells me my charger is there, asks my name, and tells me to swing by anytime to grab it. I come back the next morning to grab it, and don’t see anyone behind the bar so I sit down. There are three other patrons sitting at the bar with food and drinks, and after about ten minutes of waiting, I’m noticing the other guests start to look around as well. I cough and attempt to make some noise in order to attract some sort of attention. Since that doesn’t work I call them from my phone… winner winner, chicken dinner! We’ve got a bartender! I mean I could have went behind the bar and made the entire ‘crowd’ free drinks (Reconsidering, maybe I should have). I let the bartender know I spoke to the manager yesterday and that I was there to grab my charger. She looks around aimlessly for about ten minutes and says she cannot find it. I asked if she could call the gentleman I spoke with yesterday, and her reply was simply, «he’s not in right now.» So I ask her when he will be in and she says she doesn’t know. Alllllriiiighty then. She takes my name and number and says they will call me back upon finding it. Right. Just like they found a way to make drinks correctly. Yeah, not so much.
Oh, and don’t be fooled by the 20+ large HDTVs because no one knows to work them. The only other time I visited this hot mess of a bar was to watch a Cavs game on a Saturday night. The game had been on for 30 minutes already. Shouldn’t the game already be on? I mean we are in Columbus, Ohio. Oh wait, maybe it’s because not one employee knew how to change the channel, not even the manager. It’s surprising to me they even had the Superbowl on any of the tvs.
If I were the owner, I would be ashamed.
My friends and I all agreed this place has the WORST food and service we have ever encountered.
ADVICE: put up a CLOSED sign. You clearly have zero idea what you are doing, so let someone else who does take over.

King Avenue Five is a place for sports. Sho ’nuff it is. The HDTV presentations cover 3 of 4 walls and most screens are über-​huge. The night I went there was a Monday evening and only one game was playing on every TV so the game friends and I came to see got our eyeballs filled with action.
Sports pubs are/​should be known for their down home cookin’ and with that said I was okay with this first go-​round. My two friends had been before to King Avenue Five and wanted to go so I didn’t argue. A-​OK is where I’m at today on foodie.
My order was a pub pretzel (app) and hummus/​tatzicki cucumber dip with pita. The pretzel was large and very salted (next time I’ll see if I can get unsalted) — came with a small bowl of mustard which I wished I’d asked for more. The hummus and dip, too, came in small bowls (I wished I’d asked for more, again). Tasty dips — the pita pieces were very warm on the plate.
Main course? Friends both got chicken sandwiches w/​fries — they chow’d down! I got a plain hamburger and substituted fries with cold veggies (cucumbers, tomatoes, pickles). I was very cool with the switch… but I wasn’t asked about my burger cool/​heat and I got a near well-​done patty. That was my fault (I guess; shouldn’t server ask me how I want it cooked??).
I’ll say King Avenue Five deserves another shot. The place is very big and very wide open even with its obtuse room divider rising and falling in the mid-​section of the room. Kinda strange looking. Parking was fine. Good location. I’ll do it again to check on wings and other apps — sports pub special items.

The wedding I was in held their ceremony and reception here. It has a very good size back room area with a separate bar and bathrooms upstairs. They were more than accommodating. Anything that was needed, was taken care of efficiently and with a smile. The food was buffet style and it was lasagna, meat and veggie. I know the bride requested no mushrooms as she is allergic, but there were some in it. Fortunately, she caught it before she ate it, and her new groom got her the meat lasagna instead. Crisis averted! The staff were constantly clearing drink glasses and such, making sure everything stayed nice. What a great place to have an event!

I came down here for lunch today, based on one thing; the pepper burger! And boy did it have a ton of pepper on it! It was packed with pepper, on both sides and around the edges. And boy was it good! Besides the pepper, it was loaded up with lettuce, tomato, and onion and placed on a very good hamburger bun.
I didn’t get my server’s name but she was also the bartender and she was right on top of things. And the building that King Ave 5 is in is huge! Of course it was lunch hour and the didn’t have much of a crowd.

So the food is decent. Slightly above average bar food and they make some decent salads. The Cajun chicken Alfredo is pretty solid as well. But I don’t go here really for the food. It’s a fun environment to hang out — for the game or late night. Just a bit off the beaten path and typically you get a nice crowd here. Drinks are well poured and have reasonable prices all around. Don’t go here for a spectacular meal — but try it for a decent one and a fun place to chill.

Was able to grab some dinner at King Avenue Five before they closed their kitchen this past weekend. It is a simple menu, not much offered in my opinion. I went with the Barbeque Bacon cheeseburger and fries. Also had a pound of boneless wings. Nothing really stood out as being special, but all flavors were there and executed at a standard level. It did take what I consider a rather long time for the food to come out (about 20 minutes in a pretty empty establishment). NO qualms besides that.

King Avenue Five is terribad. One of the more obnoxious places I’ve visited lately. I went with a group of coworkers, and I’ve decided I need to start exerting more influence on our destinations because of this visit. The atmosphere was entirely too loud, even for a sports bar. I can hear better at rock shows. The reason? They have the goddamn games on entirely too loud as well. So of course everyone is competing with this blaring announcer to be heard.
On top of that, the food sucked. Someone ordered the hummus and it was the most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen. It looked like honey mustard and had the same texture and consistency. One of our crew joked «what do you expect ordering hummus at a sports bar?» He has a point, although I’m sure you can buy better so why don’t they? I tried it just so I could verify it was as bad as it looked, and it was. It had this nasty, sour aftertaste. Ew. The tzatziki was the same story. At my friend’s insistence, I did try a tiny boneless chicken wing with a pretty decent rub on it. So if you have to go here, I guess I’d recommend those.
Service was average and the saving grace was the restrooms. They were spotless, which is a big bonus for me, and featured some cool rock show posters — an indicator that someone involved with the place at least doesn’t suck.

I find myself here somewhat frequently, whether it’s grabbing drinks to watch a basketball/​football/​baseball game with the bf or getting a later dinner and drinks after a long day. As mentioned in previous reviews, the place is kind of schizo, being half-​restaurant, half-​bar (and now part-​time live music venue), but I kind of like that it caters to different moods.
King Ave 5 is probably one of the better sports bars around Grandview, with plenty of TVs and a garage-​converted-​to-​bar area in the back with giant projector screens and more TVs. Because of this, it fills up pretty easily on big game days so go early if you want a good seat. Most of the other times it’s pretty open. I usually always sit in the bar area — find I have better service from the bartenders.
Something that always gets me is how cheap this place is! I don’t know if they forget rounds of drinks or what but many times I’ve left surprised at how little I spent. Usually around $ 3 for a beer and $ 3.50 for wells. I can’t speak too much for the food, as I ALWAYS order the buffalo chicken salad (delish), but I have had the mozzarella skewers (so freaking good but a ton of cheese if you don’t have a group to share with), and the tortilla soup (meh, but bf liked it). They have a pretty varied menu and I’ve never heard complaints from anyone I’ve dined with. Bf always gets the spicy burger (forget the name but it comes with jalapenos) and he loves it. Again, reasonably priced all around.
Kind of don’t want to mention it because I always have a spot, but nights after 5 and weekends all day, you can park across the street at the Montessori school. Hardly anyone ever parks there and it’s a pretty safe place to leave your car if you have to on a Friday or Saturday night.
Overall, this place is great. Could stand to be a little friendlier, but it gets a solid 4 stars.
