Jack’s is now Dirty Frank’s West. Same location, same bar, same big room for groups. Radically different décor. Many more dog selections. But, no longer parking in the back. Minor bummer.

Stopped in on a Tuesday 2pm. Good parking in the rear. Was like walking into 1962! Not«retro» just a time warp! Staff were kind, and when I asked what was good-they looked shocked and said Coneys! I had a cheese and a kraut coney. Both were good, tasty, and made a fine lunch on a hot day. The fresh pink lemonade topped it off. I will be back.

Had this for lunch today, carryout again. Staff is very nice over the phone and faxed over a menu. Here is the break down: Cheese coney: Good, a little small, good amount of cheese, thin on the sauce. Kraut dog: bad, the kraut tasted off and there was nothing else i tasted on there except meat and sauerkraut. I have a feeling this one will haunt me in an hour. Slaw dog: Great, they have a really smooth slaw that goes super good on the hotdog. Chili: good, portion was a reasonable size and the taste of tomato was just right. Chili cheese fries: Real bad. It didn’t use the same chili as above, instead it had some meat paste, and the oil from the cheese soaked the fries. We threw these out. Hilltop cheese steak: Awesome. The best thing we got, the grilled onions tasted spot on and the meat was well seasoned. I’ll get this again for sure. All in all I don’t regret it, the price was right and they have good daily deals(friday had .50 off any coney). I like going to small locals like this, and now we all know what to to get and what to avoid.

Stopped in today for another bowl of Jack’s fantastic bean soup. It was filled with onions and ham and was it good! Also had another coney and that was all I could eat. But he does have some other sandwiches that I’m going to have to try on my next trip.

Since I live in the Hilltop(for now) I have decided to go and find some places for good food. I’m a coney fan, so I decided to try out Jack’s. Its a small place, but they keep it very clean. The folks that do the cooking/order taking are very nice and welcoming. About the food… when I came here I got two coneys, an order of fries, and a bottled water; it was $ 1 coney day(on Tuesdays and Thursdays) so my bill came to $ 4.25. The bun is soft and fresh, the coney sauce is ok, but their hot dogs are very good. The fries are frozen and simply deep-fried, so nothing special there. If you are in the Hilltop and got the mood for coneys, this is a very good place to come to. The owners are good folks and the eats are very cheap with a good taste.

Jack’s Coneys is a tiny mom and pop restaurant that I never noticed til today and thought I’d stop in to try it out. The owner is friendly and told me this place has been open for a couple of years. The menu consists of coney dogs, of course, and a handful of choices for sides including fries, etc. I went with a slaw dog and a can of Mountain Dew which was under $ 3. The bun was soft and fluffy, the slaw was creamy, not runny, and the coney sauce and mustard all worked well together with the dog. This is a good spot to check out if you’re out on the west side and you’ll probably want to order more than one if you’ve got a serious appetite.
