It was good, I got the two additional sides for 2.50 so I could put slaw on my coney to make it «West Virgina» style I did not know that the bottleneck fries are coated. I ordered another coney to take home to my Mom but my daughter liked it so much she ate the whole thing. The bacon cheeseburger is really good. A favorite place for the senior citizens.

The Best Coneys in Columbus. I went to Phillip’s a few times and I have never disappointed. I recommend their famous coneys, the bottleneck fries, and Onion Rings with Horseradish sauce that was house made. I got 2 coneys with chili sauce, onions, mustard, and shredded cheddar cheese with the fries and Diet Dr. Pepper. I thought I would not like Horseradish sauce, but I did when I dipped in Onion Rings that a wonderful co-worker shared with me and 2 other people. Fries was tasty, too. Their chili recipe is very secret and guarded. One server told me that she started coming to Phillip’s when she was 11 years old, and sat at the counter, and has been employed ever since. It gets very busy at lunch time. If you do not want a coney; there is other salads and sandwiches like the Fried Bologna, burgers, chicken sandwiches, and more. I will have to try their hand dipped milkshakes when I come back. They have been around since 1912. They are open until 6 pm six days a week and closed Sundays. If you want great coneys in Columbus, go to Phillip’s Original Coney Island because it is the best since 1912.

Husband and I had a lunch of together and have herd great things about Phillips. So we headed down for lunch and arrived at 12:30 to a almost full house. Menu is very reasonably priced and some really good options. Husband got two Coney Island dogs they offer on their menu. My eye spotted a fried bologna sandwich. Mmmmm my favorite. Husbands coney was delicious and my quarter inch thick Bologna sandwich was very good. Place is over 100 years old and has been very well taken care of. Holds the charm of a place that grandma and grandpa took me as a kid. Also service was very good and friendly.

Little pricey. Small dogs. Good flavors. Great service. Get there before the lunch crowd. Very popular.

WHY have I not reviewed this place??? I have been going there absolutely EVERY chance I get, for YEARS! I CRAVE their coneys! They know who I am and remember my favorite dessert and that I want to take it to-go. They ask if customers want a soda to take with them? These guys are great. This is a mom’n’pop joint that’s on its third generation, I’m pretty sure. All kinds are there … Downtown office workers, construction workers, the neighborhood parish priest, people with their kids when school is out.(It’s very close to COSI) THE best coneys in this town and I KNOW, because I have tried them all. But I only CRAVE one. And I go back every chance I get. Try ‘em and you’ll see why.

Nice local business to support. Coney’s are really good along with some onion rings. Service is friendly and good and plenty of room to sit where you want. For a quick bite in a nice place, you cannot go wrong here!

As hotdogs go, this is a three-four star joint. Order up to or three coneys, and call it a day. I wouldn’t deviate to anything else. I think that a lot of the other stuff is pretty much pre-made and in the freezer until you order it, which is why I give this two stars.

Philips isn’t your ordinary«hotdog» joint. They have coneys which they are known for and your typical food stand options. They do get insanely busy for lunch as it is right outside of downtown so they get the downtown crew. Now if you can stand the potential wait for lunch which isn’t long even by Hawai’i time then it is worth the wait or potential none wait and get right to a table to get your grub on asap. Now upon my visit, it was during this everyman for himself lunch time. My girlfriend and myself walked into a busy cafeteria and thought… Um are we waiting this long for lunch. Well to our surprise we went in sat down and was expedited our drinks and my chili I ordered. Before I could even use the restroom to wash my hands. Now the chili wasn’t «to die for» but it was good. The Coney I ordered was really good. My girlfriend ordered a hamburger and onion rings. She was very happy with her food and said it was very good. The price for everything chili, two drinks, one original coney without cheese, and a burger was $ 20. Seemed a bit pricey, but then again location and convenience does cost. Now to the point. Would I come back? Most definetly. Will it be soon? Oh for sure. Would I recommend Philips to my friends? Yes, I will.

You looking for some old fashioned coney dogs without having to scroll through a million choices? Phillip’s will save you the hassle that you might find down on S. 4th Street. The only thing you have to decide on here is whether or not you want cheese on your dog. Phillip’s actually has a menu of more than just hot dogs, and had I known there were no pictures of it, I would have snagged some. You can get hamburgers and fried bologna and a few other options, but it’s not a large menu, and I can’t imagine you’re really coming in here for anything but a coney. The dogs here hit the spot, and they’re pretty cheap too at $ 2.50 a coney and bigger than their Skyline brethren. I was actually pleasantly surprised by how good the meat tasted in comparison to the price. My advice is to ask for some hot sauce in the back to throw on these. I put in an order of onion rings as well, and they were pretty standard but nice and crispy with a great dipping sauce. You shouldn’t really be sketched out by the neighborhood. It’s right off the Broad St. exit from 325, and there’s a private parking lot. It’s kind of in a no man’s land with a lot of decrepit buildings across the street. The service was friendly, and the food was out within minutes. If you’re looking for classic coney dogs, I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t want to check this spot out.

I go here about once every few years. Never seems to change much décor wise. And I don’t think they’ve changed the food since it opened. Original fat laden and greasy, sodium loaded. Hot dogs are pretty small, especially given the price. Nothing to go on about, and you won’t be wishing you could go there again tomorrow. Nice as a switch up and you can carry a bag of em back to the office.

This place has the history you look for when searching for a diner, with over 100 years in business. Do yourself a favor and grab some coney dogs!!!

Wow! I hate to admit, I’ve lived in Columbus my whole life and had never tried Phillips until today. It was AMAZING! From the time I walked in and was warmly greeted, til I finished my last bite of food, Phillips showed why they have been around over a century. My waitress handed me a menu and directed me straight to the coneys. A regular sitting next to me at the counter told me to get the bean soup and cornbread, but also assured me I couldn’t go wrong with anything on the menu. I went for both of their recommendations and I’m glad I did. The coneys were great! A slightly spicy, smokey flavored coney sauce was perfect on my grilled hot dog with mustard and onion. The bean soup had a great consistency and was a perfect pairing with the sweet cornbread. Can’t wait to come back!

NOFRUFRU here, but what’s not to love ??? Old school diner with GREAT coneys, hamburgers, fries, onion rings, etc. in the heart of Franklinton. They definitely didn’t survive 100+ years by serving bad food. Great place, with really good food that isn’t real good for you…

I can’t believe that I have never been to Phillip’s Original Coney Island on Broad St. in Columbus, OH before, but I decided to go today. If the number of customers in line for food was to be any indication of how good the food was going to be, I was definitely in the right place. I need to use a walker for mobility and was humbled by the number of patrons and staff who were willing to assist me in and around the restaurant to get my order. But, be aware what time you go because this is really a target for people wanting a quick and satisfying lunch. Mark K. had suggested that people should stick with the namesake, «coney hotdogs,» which I did. I was taken aback by the small size of these coney hotdogs, but what they lacked in size, they made up in flavor. The buns were small to accommodate the dog to go in them. The meat itself was fresh and juicy. Onions I’d ordered had just enough of a bite to compliment the dog, but not overpower the flavor of the meat and this whole feast was slathered with layers of brilliant orange, cheddar cheese. I don’t believe these were kosher hotdogs like Nathan’s etc., but they were very good. I didn’t ask, but didn’t see any signage that might indicate otherwise. Noticing on the menu that they had bean soup, I jumped on that. Perfection in a bowl! My only regret, was that I didn’t get a larger bowl or multiple servings. (Maybe next time I’ll see if they will let me bring a bowl from home.) The broth was spattered with small pieces of pork, and the beans were soft without being over cooked. The clerk also asked me if I wanted a small container of onions for the soup, which I took. These were the same onions used on the coney dogs which added a nice flavorful touch. Overall, this was a wonderful experience. I saw other foods; sandwiches, wings, etc, but knew what I wanted when I entered and did not let anything deter me from that plan. Perhaps next time. .. No! Probably not.

This place is pretty cool; has an old diner atmosphere because, well, it’s an old diner. I can’t comment on much about it other than their coney dogs, which I’ve had my fair share of. We pick them up for lunch(carry-out) occasionally and its a pretty quick process. They are delicious, however they are pretty small for the price. But I still go back so that’s saying something as to their quality.

How can you not love a family run restaurant that is 5th generation? I’ve been going here since I was too young to remember and my wallet loves the place as much as my stomach does. It’s like stepping back in time without the gross ghettoness of some cheaper dive places… this place is clean, super professional and it’s just nice to feel like you’re at home. the owner nick always comes over and says hi and checks on our table… you just don’t get that kinda treatment anywhere else… the conies are incredible and even though they’re not that healthy… its got to be 1000 times better than any pizza or fast food place… I never feel that gross after this place… I love it. Go here at least every 2 weeks… no matter where I live… I always come back.

Another establishment that we’ve been going to for years. They are no-frills and consistent. If you got chili and/or chili dogs there 50 years ago it’s going to taste the same now as it did back then. They have never tried to be something they’re not, simple tasty food at a decent price.

Forgot to stick to my previous review of only getting the hotdogs, and boy was it ever miserable this time. I got the chicken fingers, but I only ordered the side order(of 3?). I was given the entire dinner and charged 2x the price, and they would not let me argue it. I should have walked but I paid. Unfortunately I paid, because those were the worst chicken fingers I’ve ever had. tiny strips of chicken in an insane amount of breading(enough that I could peel it off), they were greasy and overcooked, like the fryer was not hot enough so they were left in too long. Not sure I’ll go back after this, it was quite an off experience. Maybe next time I need to remember«hot dogs only».

When you’re an Indian-American kid, you tend to be deprived of all types of glorious, greasy, classic American fare. Therefore, as an adult, places like Phillip’s Coney fills a childhood void. On a recent visit, we tried the fried bologna sandwich, BLT, tuna salad sandwich, fries, and a side salad. My first experience with a fried bologna sandwich was memorable and delicious. Our awesome waitress informed us that the thick-cut bologna is specially sourced and is only available at Phillip’s Coney Island. The lightly fried bologna was appropriately topped with melty swiss and grilled onions, making it a killer sandwich. The tuna salad, though standard, was of a top-notch variety. And that BLT was INSANE. ½ pound of bacon! The fries were crispy and the side salad came with my fave, Marzetti’s dressing. So happy to have discovered this place and can’t wait to go back!

Phillip’s Coney Island has been operating around town for nearly 100 years, and for good reason. Although only the Broad St. Location remains, you feel as if you’re in the original location. The family portraits on the wall greet you even before the super friendly staff does. So old school, so awesome. The coneys are on the smallish side, so grab a couple if you’re hungry. Steamed dog on a perfectly steamed bun with a very good coney sauce. Not at all sweet like so many Columbus area chilis and chili sauces. Went all the way with chopped onion, mustard and nuclear-orange cheese. Go with the hand battered onion rings too. The server recommended the regular fries if we wanted them plain, and the battered fries if we wanted cheese on them. I went with the regular, I’ll get the others next time. Oh yeah, there’ll be a next time.
