My MacBook Pro had gotten milk spilt over it and I took it to the apple store that day to get it checked out. Apple took it to the back to check out and told me it is going to cost them $ 750 dollars for them to ship out and fix. I even had apple care, but that didn’t matter because it was a liquid damage. Anyways I went to Elán technologies where they instead cleaned out my computer, backed up my entire hardrvie, even got rid of an old virus on my computer, and all for $ 40! The service was professional, affordable, and it was all done within 24 hours. I was never so happy to get that call that my computer was ok and I wasn’t going to have to spend the original $ 750 I expected.

Very grateful to Paul for running my MacBook through the ringer after an Apple Store tech diagnosed a RAM issue. Turns out, there was nothing wrong with the hardware, and Paul’s minor fixes to some faulty software appear to have resolved my issues of sudden crashes and failed startups. Thorough testing saved me some $$$, and I feel that they went the extra mile to run a full workup before swapping out my fully-​functioning RAM. Highly recommend them as your first stop for Mac issues.

I’m sitting here laughing at how similar my experience was to that of a lot of previous reviewers.
I spilled tea in my MacBook Pro last week, stuffed it in rice for two days to get it to dry out, and discovered it to be gasping for life when I tried to run it. I sped to the Apple Store’s Genius Bar. There they said everything but the hard drive had been hit and gave me a $ 1200 repair estimate. Ouch. But because the hard drive was untouched, the data could be recovered. They gave me a printout of recommended providers and pointed particularly to Élan. They said they could do the recovery for me and might even be able to offer a lower estimate for the repair. I acknowledge that they said that. They were geniuses to say so. But I was dumb not to listen to them right away.
Also on the list was a place I was already familiar with over on the west side, nearer to where I live. You might know the one; it’s on Bethel. I won’t name it, but I decided to try them first. I went in asking for data recovery, not repair. Estimate of $ 120: half for the external hard drive, half for the labor. A few hours later, I got a call. Since the hardware is proprietary, they didn’t have the ability to get into the drive. They’d have to send the laptop to somewhere in Denver, and it would add up to around $ 450. Not for repair, for data recovery. All because it’s a newer Mac. Since there was nothing on there I truly needed (I back up my data but not as often as I should), I simply picked up my machine.
So I decided to take the Apple Genius’s advice and journey the half-​hour across the city to try Élan. I figured, Élan was described as a «Premium» partner on that list he’d given me, so they might be able to work with proprietary Apple products. I made it there at 5:59 (they close at 6), but Mark was perfectly patient and completely unfazed by me causing him to stay after closing. He opened the back of the Mac with me there and took a cursory look at the damage. It really looked like a dirty mess, dust and cat fur everywhere (I was embarrassed), which he said was because the liquid had most likely flooded the dust from underneath the keyboard into the whole of the case. He confirmed what Apple Genius said, that the hard drive was unscathed, and data recovery shouldn’t be a problem, but would I like a diagnostic to see what they could do about the damage?
I agreed to the diagnostic, which I had to pay $ 43 upfront for; if it required repair, the $ 43 would then be placed toward the cost. They had the computer for the weekend, and Paul called me on Monday. The news was far less horrific than anything I’d heard so far. After they had gotten the innards cleaned up, the computer actually ran fine. Seriously, fine. After a $ 43 cleanup. The only real damage was to the logic board, they explained, which was necessary for allowing the laptop to run off the battery. They could get that fixed for $ 580 plus a bit more for a new battery. But if I didn’t get that repair done, the computer would still work as long as it remains plugged in when it’s on. You know, being cord-​dependent works just fine for me, so I passed on the repair.
Then they also helped me transfer the data to an external hard drive. Unlike the other place, which was charging for the labor, Élan charged me nothing at all for it. I just purchased the hard drive and brought it in. This is where my only complaint about Élan comes in. They said it would take a couple of hours, so since I live half an hour away, I figured it would make more sense to hang out in the area than to go home and have to turn right around and come back. So I camped out at Starbucks on Morse and waited for their call. Well, I got there at 12:30 and, when I hadn’t heard from them by 5:00, tried calling. I got a recording and left a message that didn’t get returned. I swung by again right before closing to check on the status so I could grab my computer before heading home, in case the call hadn’t made it through. Alas, they hadn’t even started with the data transfer. They’d been swamped with walk-​ins all day. Mark apologized, and I sighed and went home.
They called me first thing the next day. They’d left the data to back up overnight, and it was ready by morning. I picked it up, still amazed that I didn’t have to pay any more than the $ 43 I’d originally deposited.
Although I was irked that I’d ended up spending five hours in a chilly Starbucks for nothing, I’m not reducing my five-​star rating for it, partly because I was waiting for a free service and partly because really, I’d give six stars for the work if I could. So taking a star off is really six minus one. Still five.

I cannot recommend these guys enough! Exceptionally fast, friendly, and knowledgeable.
My hard drive was failing and I was under an approaching deadline to complete a project. These guys had me outfitted with a new hard drive, all my data transferred, and an upgrade in RAM in just 24 hours.
Top notch.

Go here once and you’ll never use the Apple Genius Bar at Easton/​Polaris again. Now to be clear, I’ve never had bad service at the Apple Genius Bar – but the Genius Bar is always a zoo, I have to make an appointment days ahead of time unless I want to wait around forever for a walk-​in appointment, and half the time they tell me that they’ll need to ship my device off-​site for repairs.
By contrast, I waltzed into Élan Technologies without an appointment, was helped within 5 minutes of arrival (as soon as they finished with the guy who was already there), and they diagnosed my problem + got all the paperwork for the AppleCare-​covered repair done in 10 more minutes. My machine was ready for pickup *the next day,* and this was not a trivial repair (replaced the entire front assembly + the battery on my MacBook Air.)
Pretty much their whole staff used to work for Apple, so these guys definitely know what they’re doing. They’re also calm, patient, and good at explaining complicated things to computer novices. (I’m a geek, but the guy they were helping when I first walked in clearly was not, and Paul the branch manager did an excellent job explaining that guy’s hardware problems in simple English.) Awesome!

Working with Élan has been a wonderful experience. The service I have received has been professional, courteous, and timely. I highly recommend Élan to anyone who has difficulties with an Apple computer. The repairs have been quick and handled with expertise. The employees are extremely knowledgable and friendly!

I spilled unsweetened iced tea on my 3 yr old MBP. It fell mostly on the same side as the USB ports etc. After taking a look, the Apple store in Easton gave me a list of Apple Service Providers with Élan Technologies on it. I walked in to Élan and met with Paul. He took a look at the laptop by taking off the back cover in front of me and showing me the burnt logic board where the iced tea had corroded some of the circuitry. It’s a costly repair option so I am putting it off for now. Paul checked the hard drive and all is well. He dropped it in one of those anti static bags so I may transfer the data on to a new device. Great customer service delivered efficiently by professional techs.

Wonderful experience with the Élan folks. My 5 year old MBP is up and going like new again. Service was fast taking only 3 days to replace the lcd, logic board, and dvd drive. Price quoted for lcd alone also covered the other items. Will definitely go there if any issues arise in the future, and have already told friends with macs to bypass the apple store :) Speaking of the apple store, they are certified to do apple warranty work, and will tell you if you can save money by going to the apple store instead of using them. Even though I have a Macbook I am definitely not geeky and don’t understand computers beyond the basics. When my sound mysteriously stopped working I ventured to the Apple store at Easton and visit those know-​it-​all genius bar people. I was genuinely embarrassed at first because I thought it’d be something really simple. The genius who assisted me figured out what the problem (it actually had to do with something burning out internally, I think) was but said it would take X amount of WEEKS to get my laptop back and there was no guarantee that all my files wouldn’t go kaput in the process. I, like anyone else, did not have weeks that I could just go without my laptop. At this point sound really didn’t seem like it was a necessity after all.
And then the genius told me about Élan and how they work exclusively with Apple products and that Apple Care warranties are honored. In fact, the guys who opened and work at Élan are former Apple genius employees. So I drove a few miles up the road from Easton to Élan and left my laptop in their care. The entire process was incredibly simple — tell them why you’re bringing your product in, run a quick test, fill out/​sign some paper work and that’s it. As I walked back to my car, I realized this must be what it feels like when you drop your kid off on their first day of kindergarten — am I ever going to see them again in this condition? My laptop was ready within a couple days (I think less than 48 hours). Sound was restored. Files were all intact. And best of all it was free!

We were sent to Élan from the Easton Apple Store, because they assured us they could handle our repair cheaper than Apple themselves. They were right! We have always had great experiences here, and their prices are fair. They also stand behind their repairs and are happy to make adjustments later if necessary. They are very professional and helpful, and so friendly. I recommend them to everyone!
