On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina

Despite having to wait 35 minutes for our margaritas, the food and service was amazing! The manager was wonderful and made up for our wait. We will be back. :)

Service gets a 5 here because it was awesome. It gets a 3 for food for me personally my wife would rate it a 4. I love Mexican food so I’m really picky the enchiladas were good but nothing really spectacular. The price was decent for the serving size. I felt that it lacked a lot of unique flavor and heat that makes enchiladas delicious. I might’ve just not picked the right one. All in all great service, good prices, mediocre food.

Tonight I had a great experience. Andrew was our server. The service was great, the food we fresh and delicious! It was fast as well. I’m very pleased with everything!

I’m astounded by my experience this evening. Our waiter Eric reeked of alcohol, and not the kind that gets spilled on you, he was intoxicated. Needed to ask another server, Thomas, for more salsa because we never saw Eric again. He was very short with us, and condescending. And we then asked to speak with a manager, who had been on his phone and cussing and joking loudly with his other employees, about why he employs someone who reeks of alcohol. This manager is Mike Peebles, he gave me his card, and I need to make this known to his upper management that he is quite the unprofessional man. As we are leaving, Thomas hollers out to a family who was leaving, saying «Her sister got fired,» with a couple of other employees.
I have been here a few times on work trips, and they all have been not so great, but not terrible like tonight was. I enjoy On the Border out here in Texas, but I must say tonight was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I will not be spending any money towards this location until that environment of employees and management are withdrawn. Shame on the upper management that sustains such people to act in a such a way, on repeated occasions.

Now no one goes to OTB for authentic Mexican food so you need to go into this place with reasonable expectations. However, our mission today was solely to properly celebrate National Tequila Day. $ 2 house margaritas and $ 1 tequila shots deem this place an honorable mention for happy hour. The chips and salsa were constant and the drinks were flowing. They have several tv screens for your sports viewing pleasure. Overall, good atmosphere, nice patio, would definitely come back for more debauchery.

I love dropping in here for lunch. I’ve always had good service that’s attentive and the food has always been prepared properly. The chips and salsa keeps coming while I’m waiting for my meal as well. I love their chips.
The Santa Fe Chicken Tacos are my favorite, but there is a lot on the menu I love. It’s not what I’d call authentic mexican, it’s really a tex-​mex restaurant. I find authentic mexican to be fairly bland. While this certainly isn’t my favorite place to get tex-​mex, for a chain restaurant it’s really good.

At least the moment when I went they did not have hosts/​hostess’ which I don’t know if that is their business model or not, but it seems weird cause they page over their little radio for some server to come to the front which can take sometime.
Speaking of those radios; Thru out the lunch I witnessed servers talking on their ear piece while at tables/​taking orders which is just rude.
We browsed the menu and were not very enthused but found enough to order. Jalapeño Poppers, fish tacos, chicken tacos and coronaritas.
The poppers were actually pretty good, I could eat those again.
The fish tacos didn’t really taste like anything but breading.
The chicken tacos tasted like I was eating a bbq chicken sandwich, not mexican food.
Coronaritas were fine, nothing special but fine.
I would never suggest to go back to any On The Border again.
2 Stars cause it wasn’t the worst experience but the food, which should be the star, was bland. Somewhere around a 1.5 star rating I would think would be more accurate but I couldn’t justify a 1 star.

We ordered dinner through grubhub which always takes forever so On the Border isn’t losing points for that. What they are losing points for is the following: Hubby’s carne was supposed to be on a bed of onions, there were no onions to be found, my chimichanga had only meat inside, it was mostly tortilla and the minimal amount of cheese on top wasn’t melted. We called immediately to let them know that they forgot our side order of guacamole dip and they said they’d send it right over. It’s been 2 hours. I’m pretty sure we’re not getting our guac (I should point out that we finished eating), and we’re probably not getting a refund.
Hubby was happy with his food, that’s the only reason they got 2 stars, I would have given 1. VERY displeased.

I think this place deserves at least three stars overall.
Good: love the thin chips n salsa, brisket tacos, coke, lunch chicken fajitas (Wed special), love the tortillas
OK/​could do without: beans n rice, guacamole that comes with fajitas
