History

Established in 2001.

Benjamin Knox was drawn to rebuild the College Station train depot because of its historical significance to Texas A&M and the city. Texas A&M was established in 1876 in the Brazos Valley mainly because of the existing train service. The original location of the depot marked the main entrance to the campus in front of the Academic Building. The train conductor would yell «All out for the college-College Station!»

In 1883 a small Victorian structure was built as the depot, and the Southern Pacific Railroad replaced it with a more prominent building in 1900 (which is what the gallery is modeled after). In 1938 the City of College Station became incorporated and derived its name from the College Station Depot. To add historical significance, the event was held at the depot.

The use of the automobile eventually replaced passenger train travel, and by 1958, the College Station Depot was no longer in use. It sat dormant until it was destroyed in 1966 due to the widening of Wellborn Road.

Meet the Business Owner

Benjamin K.

Business Owner

Benjamin Knox was born on April 3 in Lubbock, Texas. At an early age he excelled at art, music, and sports, and developed a love for nature from the many family trips to the back-country of New Mexico and Colorado.

Benjamin launched his professional art career from his dorm room in 1988 while he was a sophomore member of the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M University. Benjamin’s popularity as an artist multiplied while he was a student as he broadened his mediums to watercolor, acrylic, and oil and started offering artwork for other universities and landscapes.

By the time he graduated in 1993, with a degree in the College of Architecture, he already established a very successful gallery in College Station, TX. In 2001, he designed a new landmark gallery facility next to the Texas A&M University campus that features the rebuilt historic College Station train depot.

Today, Benjamin is more focused and passionate than ever about his life as a professional artist.
