Paulus Hook Ferry Terminal

We made a trip over to Jersey City this past weekend for brunch. We came over using the PART train… and had that usual PART train experience. Going back to Manhattan, we opted to take the ferry back. In doing so, we encountered the Paulus Hook Ferry Terminal.
The terminal and docking area itself is fairly new and shows it, although fairly minimalist in styling. Very clean, well taken care of, and enough space for taking care of ticket business/​waiting for the ferry. The staff was helpful and no complaints with our interaction here. The area and building are inviting for someone using the ferry system… I know as my first interaction with using the ferry I was pretty impressed with it. I plan on using it more often if coming/​going in the area.
Bottom line: Paulus Hook Ferry Terminal is a nice facility, although simple in structure. Clean, well maintained, and definitely worth the investment. It definitely encourages me to take the ferry there more often, I am a fan!

While commuting by ferry is by far one of the most relaxing ways to get to and from work, contending with this terminal flat out sucks.
Positioned at the point where the Hudson begins pouring out toward the Atlantic, you are almost always fighting what feels like gale-​strength winds to reach the pier. And because the boats dock and undock so quickly, if you see your boat before you’ve stepped foot on the pier, you have a very good chance of missing it.
The terminal itself is very small and is without any services besides a bathroom, ticket counter, and a few bench seats. It’s fine for what it is, since you generally won’t be spending a lot of time here.
Hopefully as Jersey City continues to increase in popularity and desirability, the Port Authority will invest more money into the ferry system and the riverfront in general. It’s definitely the most enjoyable way to get around.

It’s a ferry terminal. Not much to review, but we just missed the 2pm ferry & I’ve got 15minutes burning a hole in my pocket. So with that said, I guess the first star goes to the ferry service being punctual. Arrived at 2:02 and sadly watched the ferry already making its was to WFC.
Terminal itself is relatively new and very clean. Nothing in the way of amenities aside from bathrooms. Ticket agents are fine and there is a heliport for the true ballers trolling Unilocal for a good place to land their chopper.
Ferries rub to midtown and downtown during the week. Currently running weekend service to WFC while WTC PATH is out of commission. Not sure if that’ll continue indefinitely.
A ferry ride will cost ya on the weekdays. $ 8 one way to Midtown. Ouch.

This is not going to be a long review cause there not much to say about the terminal itself. The staff is friendly enough and the facility is clean. My favorite thing right now is that they’ve slashed their price for weekend rides while the PATH train isn’t going to World Trade Center on the weekends. What?! Public transportation is throwing us bone?! Unreal!
Price to ride is $ 2.50 each way $ 1 extra for bikes. Yeah, its a little more than just taking the PATH to 33^rd but if your only interested in hitting downtown why would you go all the way up to mid-​town just to cab or subway it back down? It’s a 5min ride and the view is awesome. Downside is parking in the area is terrible but I think there is a parking garage not too far away. My advice for everyone going down to see the memorial this coming fall is to take the ferry and save yourself the headache of driving or adding unnecessary transfers to your trip to the Big Town.

So since the PATH jerks sprung the whole «no WTC train on weekends» shenanigans, I’ve been trying to do my part to keep the ferry between Paulus Hook and WTC alive. I just took my first ferry ride about 6 months ago. Before that I was a total water punk and you would not have caught me dead there. But now I love it!
The Paulus Hook terminal situation is nice and clean and the ticket peeps are cordial enough. It’s super easy to get to and the boats are usually on time. But even if they’re not on time, you won’t be waiting long. The round time is actually kinda mind blowing lol. It’s dumb cheap, at only $ 2.50 per ticket. Totes worth the monies.
Anyway, if you like being about to get to the WTC on the weekends… make sure to support this ferry route!

Easy fast and enjoyable to go from there. Easier then boarding the boat at Disney World. Will be back. Totally safe feeling day or night
