Had a mani and Pedi with Ashley! It was amazing. She took her time and didn’t make me feel rushed! Next I enjoyed a Swedish massage and it also was amazing, one of the best I’ve ever had. Lastly I had a Blowout and was very satisfied with the shampoo and style! This salon is great! Nice décor and very clean! Everyone seemed to get along. No Drama! Totally will be back on my next visit to Cleveland!

I was offered a beverage when I checked in and waited only a few minutes. Sarah did an amazing job cutting and styling my hair. She looked at a few pictures I showed her to illustrate what I wanted and was very knowledgeable about modifying the cut to work best with my hair texture. She replicated the picture exactly and really cared about my satisfaction. This was my first visit and I’ve made this my go-​to salon. The only downside was price. I was a very surprised that it cost $ 65 for a basic shampoo/​haircut/​style. I just moved from a city that charged $ 42 at an upscale salon so I had sticker shock. I get haircuts only a few times a year though, and rarely of this caliber, so it’s worth it.

This was my first salon experience in Cleveland. I went to Zen based on the reviews on Unilocal.I was scheduled with Danielle for a hair color! I loved her so much ! I was very worried about getting a color done, she was very patient and explained everything that she’ll do and how to take care of my hair after! She was very pleasant! The result was awesome. I loved the color and the hair style was cute. Everyone at Zen is sweet and nice. I would definitely go back there for touch ups and might try their other services. Thanks Danielle & the rest of the team!

Zen Metro has a gem in Kate, their brow expert. She’s great at pulling the natural contour out of any brow and developing a brow plan for each individual.
That being said, she’s the only reason I go. Reception is extremely difficult to work with. I’ve left 5+ messages in the past, and have never had any of them returned. Parking in the area is difficult (make sure to budget 10 minutes+ to find a spot).
I knew I would be late to my last appointment, so called four times to try and move it; I was put on hold four times for 5 – 10 minutes to the point where I couldn’t stay on the line while at work. When I finally got there, the receptionist was on the phone for six minutes and ignored me. Then, she didn’t ask my name, told me to sit down, and after ten more minutes Kate came upstairs, very confused why her appointment from 20 minutes ago wasn’t there. My appointment was then rushed because no one had notified her of my arrival. When I wanted to pay, I had to wait in line for 15 minutes again. Guys, get a second person on the desk for Saturdays!

Chris Tags is a god. Or wizard. Or maybe a hell raising lord of the underground. Whatever you believe in, believe in this. The man makes miracles happen and my hair is truly blessed to have him. Amen.

I highly recommend Kate for facials. As someone who suffers from pretty brutal cystic acne her facials rock. She gets the problem and goes to great lengths to treat.

So I can’t judge their talent but I went in last evening to look for a new paddle brush as my favorite Aveda wooden paddle brush met its end this week… I walked up to the counter and there was a man standing so I waited and then the front desk girl just stared at me without talking… I said hi and asked if they had any brushes since I couldn’t see any on the shelves I had passed. She looked at me as if I was crazy and told me no. As I walked out, I noticed a shelf with hair brushes on it in the corner by the door… I wouldn’t go back for the brush or any of their services. Not very friendly…

Rob is outstanding! My teenage son’s hair has always been hard to cut and style due to multiple colics. A lot of people can make it look «pretty good» the day he walks out and only for that one day. Rob is the only stylist from any salon EVER that has been able to cut his hair and have it look just as good 3 weeks later with minimal effort on my son’s part!

Love this place. Close to home and very professional. Angela cut my hair beautifully.

I just left the spa, and WOW! Could not be happier!
To preface, I’ve been a fancy salon connoisseur my entire life, visiting the best salons in the Chicagoland and Detroit-​metropolitan areas (I’m rather new to Cleveland). I’m by no means wealthy, but I prefer to seek out spas that generally have higher price-​point, because in my experience these places house more experienced, knowledgeable, and professional stylists. Of course, top-​notch stylists work in all types of salons at various price-​points, but I’ve never really had the time or money to burn trying to find those stylists by chance. In short, I will pay top dollar for the very BEST haircut along with the very BEST service. Anything less simply does not fly with me. With that said, my boyfriend picked this spa for me when he bought me a gift card for my birthday; therefore, I walked in with absolutely no expectations and an open mind.
Danielle cut my hair and Kate waxed my brows. I have very long hair and thick brows, so I let them have at it to anything that they wanted. The result? Perfection. Danielle took a curling iron to my hair and gave it a nice curl without any direction from me. Taking the extra care to give me a nice style for the day rather than the normal round brush blowout was an unexpected and much appreciated touch. I’m going to be honest here: what I secretly always want my hair to look like (but am too ashamed to ask for) is the long, layered Kardashian cut with the long, middle-​parted bangs, and lo-​and-​behold when Danielle was finished, that’s EXACTLY what I saw in the mirror. It took everything in me to not freakin’ SQUEE. The staff was very friendly, with no uppity attitude or clientele in sight. Did my stylist make a comment about how it’s obviously been a year since I’ve had this uncontrollable mane chopped? Nope! That is not to say that this isn’t a classy, clean spa. I REALLY value that vibe. Honestly, despite how good the stylists may be, I do not return to places that make me feel not cool/​pretty/​highfalutin enough to be there. On top of everything, I was in and out within the hour. No fuss. No drama. My time is really important to me. More times that not I find myself really bored and irritated whenever I’m having my hair or nails done. Knowing I can visit this spa on my day off and still have time to run errands, go shopping, and write Unilocal reviews means everything to me.
Let’s get to the nitty-​gritty: $ 65.00 for my haircut and $ 15 for my brows was on point, personally. Anything more expensive makes me less inclined to buy products (I’ve been catching the scent of this Moroccanoil hairspray while typing this, and it is seriously delicious!) and to schedule follow up appointments for needed maintenance. Kate advised me not to pluck or alter my eyebrows until our next appointment, which is advice I’m excited to take considering I didn’t spend $ 35 on an eyebrow arch that I’m inclined to stretch out because it cost so much. It’s pretty neat to find an esthetician with a plan and vision for my brows. Frankly, it made me feel pretty special. O:-)
I’ll be back for a highlight and a brow wax. If I’m still over-​the-​moon with this place after that, the search will be over and Zen will be MY Cleveland salon.

I can’t say enough about Zen salon! The atmosphere is upscale, trendy and just beautiful! They make sure that you are welcomed and feel completely pampered from the time that you walk in the door! Great music plays while wine and coffee refills are served as you’re having your service of choice done with great prices on top of everything else! How can you go wrong? Now onto my stylist, Erin. She is hands down one of the best stylists I have been to! She really listens to what you want and if she thinks that it’s not good for the integrity of your hair, she is 100% honest about that. She is a perfectionist and takes her time which is something that I haven’t experienced in quite awhile. I also have very curly hair and my curly haired friends know how hard it is to actually find a stylist that knows how to color, cut and straighten curly hair. I walked out with shiny, silky straight goodness! I’ve been a Clevelander for my entire life and I’m so happy to have found this gem! I’d rate it 10 stars if I could!

Urban oasis. Best brow waxes and facials by Kate, excellent massages, manis/​pedis, you name it. Not to mention heavy wine pours and lack of cell phone signal downstairs. Take me away…

Over a year later and I’m still loving Zen. I live just a few minutes away and I love being able to walk over for my appointments. They are really great about offering to make adjustments to a cut if it’s needed (I’ve been so happy with all of my cuts that I haven’t needed to take them up on the offer) and are ridiculously generous with doing maintenance cuts on bangs. They’re the best!

Danielle cuts my hair so well I travel 50 miles just to see her! I’ve been going to Danielle for 7 years. Since moving to the Cleveland area. She is by far the best!

My story is like a lot of others. It was Nightmare after nightmare until I found Sara at Zen. And I couldn’t ask for anyone better!
She is very attentive about what I want and if she doesn’t think something is a good idea then she lets me know and explains why in a way I can understand. A lot of times I ask her to do whatever she thinks would look the best. I’ve never gotten a cut or color From her I wasn’t happy with. And I’ve been going to her for around 5 years now. She has a natural talent and gift when it comes to doing hair.
She has taken me from very dark natural hair to very light blonde. Something that many other salons failed to do. Although I have very very thick hair She always takes her time and she is never in a hurry to finish. She has a great personality and is very easy to talk to.
I really couldn’t say enough good things about her. So if you are looking for an amazing stylist I recommend making an appt with Sara at Zen. Definitely call a couple weeks in advance as she has a lot of regular clients and books up quickly.
The salon is also very nice. They offer all my favorite products like Bumble & Bumble, Morrocan Oil, Kevin Murphy, Aquage, and others. They always offer a beverage from lemon water, tea, coffee, and wine.

Kate is the BEST waxer ever! Clean up for bikini season, she gets you in and out and on your way!

OK SO. Zen Metro Spa. NEVER going there again. and it sucks because most of the girls are freaking nice, and i have been going there for years now.
On Wednesday i went in to get my hair colored. my hair is stubborn, and i wanted it lightened. long story short, the end results looked like only my root took. I got that and my ends trimmed. $ 165.00.
The next day i called back to see if i could get it fixed. The girl at the desk said of course, they can fix the color, and I made SURE to mention that i did not want to pay again for a color that did not take.
I came in and said i was there to get my hair fixed from Wednesday. I got the color NOW that I wanted, all was good, yay, it is fixed, etc. EXCEPT they want to charge me AGAIN.
Their reasoning was that i got highlights– that costs extra. I HAD NO IDEA that was the case– I would not had agreed to that. I thought i was coming to to fix my color that did not take. So the girl at the front desk keeps getting more and more catty with me, «I don’t know what else to tell you» «there are cheaper places you can go to get your hair colored» …I get so flustered (and in no way am I ever close to yelling) i start crying out of frustration of the situation, and i paid 75 dollars. SO MAD. AND EMBARRASSED. uggggh. see you later, Zen.

Jonathan at Zen does the best dye job in Cleveland! This place has a cool lofty vibe and is reasonably priced. They also sell hair products that smell amazing! I highly recommend Zen to anyone looking to fix a busted do!

I booked hair and makeup appointments at Zen Metro for my bridal party the day of my wedding and I couldn’t be happier with the service we received. Christy did my bridal updo, successfully recreating the look she had created during my trial. After I mentioned that my hair easily fell out of the pins following a previous trial with another stylist, she used all kinds of powder, products, and brute force to make sure that didn’t happen again. And it didn’t. The day of my wedding, my updo was anchored to my head for a good 12 hours, despite rain, wind, and excessive dancing. All of my bridesmaids left the salon happy with how their hair looked, and I noticed that all of the stylists were very accommodating to any changes that the girls had made. Those who got their makeup done were extremely pleased with their services as well, and Tina and Kate did an especially nice job with my mother and my Matron of Honor’s makeup.
I also want to note that the salon owner and all the stylists were very flexible and even opened the salon early to accommodate our hectic schedule that day. Moreso, we were able to bring in breakfast food and mimosas to enjoy in addition to the complimentary wine that they serve at Zen Metro. Long story short, I’ve never gotten a haircut here, but I was incredibly satisfied with their bridal party services. The location near the West Side Market and all the restaurants on W. 25^th is fabulous, the staff is professional and helpful, and they’re extremely accommodating to large groups, even despite the many changes I had to make to our schedule. I would definitely recommend this salon to other Cleveland-​area brides.

Honestly, I was a bit nervous about this place because of all of the negative reviews about the front desk. But when I called to make my appointment, the woman who answered was delightful and answered all of my questions. When I arrived at the salon, everyone I encountered was super friendly. They offered me a beverage and checked in to see how I was doing while I waited. So I’m not sure if there’s been a change or anything, but I had only pleasant experiences with the front desk.
I went for a wax, which I was also nervous about because it was my first time here. But the girl taking care of me (her name is escaping my mind at the moment!) was so great! I felt so comfortable with her and she also answered all of my questions.
I was so happy with everything I experienced here. I have absolutely nothing negative to say and I will most definitely be going back for more services. I’m so glad that there is a place like this in OHC!

I go to Zen to get my eyebrows waxed by Kate — she’s the best! She’s really friendly and does a great job. You can tell she’s into her job and doing well at it — she even got excited to show me the new waxes she had in!
If you’re looking for a quick and quality brow wax — see Kate. She does other body parts, too.

With the help of Unilocal, I decided to get my hair cut while in Cleveland for an event. Was told that the cut would be $ 55 (It was $ 60 at check out) and having read the reviews and with an event that night where I could use a fresh do, I went for it.
The shampoo nothing special, no massage or conditioning treatment. The cut was very fast but looked fine. At the end we decided to try straightening my fairly straight hair. It looked fine that night and I’m running around so don’t look closely at it.
Now keep in mind that I don’t color, blow dry, straighten or curl my hair ever, so my hair is healthy with highlights from the sun only. So the next day I wash my hair and notice the smell of burnt hair. On inspection about 2″ of the right side of my hair is completely burnt, curled up in a big frizz beyond repair. Been growing out bangs for nearly 3 years and now I’ve cut two inches off one side of my hair and going to have to lose another at least before the damage is out. As you see in the picture my right side is now much shorter than the left and still shows a lot of damage.
Super sad. I could have paid the same amount and gotten an amazing cut from my favorite salon in San Diego. Now it will take another cut end probably a return to bangs to fix the mess I received at Zen.

Not sure if this is a permanent change or not — but went to Zen for a cut and color and the front desk was as professional and amazing as the rest of the Zen experience. Greeted on arrival, checked in, offered a drink, my stylist was alerted.
My cut and color from Nikki was — as always — perfect. I have some topical allergies and she’s been very careful to find products that work with my skin — so no reactions and my hair looks great.
Checking out and scheduling my next appointment was seamless.
Perfect service from beginning to end — in a clean, comfortable and welcoming salon.

Zen is my JAM!
I’ve been coming here since they opened, religiously. I really can’t say more than the other highly rated reviews have already covered.
One thing I will note: I had my bridal party get their hair done here & I have come in as part of a bridal party– both times everyone was completely happy with their looks when they left. Which is pretty huge!

Erin is such a great hair stylist at Zen! I went in a few months ago with a picture of a girl with bangs. I never had bangs before. Erin took that picture and managed to cut me bangs that looked EXACTLY like what I gave her. She also trims them up for me for free, in between haircuts. Such a sweet girl and a great hairstylist.
I have another girlfriend that gets her hair cut at Zen and I am always complimenting her hair.
Prices are normal for a nice salon. I have recommended Zen to my friends (who go to see Erin now as well) and would recommend the spa again.

So it’s been about a month since I have been in Cleveland and I was dreading getting my 1^st Cleveland haircut, but seriously I had nothing to worry about going to Zen Metro, it was incredible. Danielle was my stylist and she is amazing. From the minute I sat down I knew things were going to go well. I have short hair and usually have a long side-​swept bang but was thinking about doing some straight across like real bangs. She explained how she was going to do the cut throughout the process and knew that I was looking for a change. Seriously, one of the best haircuts ever.
I am in awe of how much she took her time and I could tell she really liked the haircut as well. I can’t believe I haven’t had bangs like this since I was in elementary school and now that might be changed forever, or at least until I decide to do something totally different next time.

Sorry, but waiting 5 minutes while the woman at the front desk flirts with some man to get checked in and ready? Not my cup of tea … and she didn’t even offer me a cup of tea (or wine … after being that annoyed, I’d probably need the wine!)
They need to realize she’s the first impression of the place. Deal with your customers first, then your personal life.

Real rating (because there’s no half-​star option here: fistshake:): 4.5 stars
Cons (because it’s the shorter list): unprofessional reception until you actually pay (snippy on the phone, inattentive at the front desk), somewhat sketchy (but trendy!) neighborhood if you’re going after sundown
Pros (because you save the best for last): quality service, amazing staff/​hair dressers, complimentary drinks, complimentary head and shoulder massage, soothing, clean modern décor, gorgeous lighting, good music, VERY reasonable prices, complimentary trims in between haircuts!
In short, if this place weren’t a hair salon, I’d probably live here.
I went about two weeks ago but our destinies were entwined from the start. I didn’t know the name of my future upscale-​hair-​salon-​to-​be, but I’d been planning on having my first, decent professional haircut of my life for some time now. After a childhood and adolescence of ragged, dog-​chewed bowl cuts at the hands of my well-​meaning mom and a few under-​$ 60 trips to Floyds, I was ready to shell out at least $ 100 for some glam and a real lady-​do.
I picked Zen off of Unilocal (thanks fellow Unilocalers!) because of the positive reviews specific to short hair styles (what I was going for). My stylist, Christina was warm, patient, and professional. She spent at least an hour getting the exact results I wanted. The place is freaking gorgeous: dark mahogany wood flooring, track lighting, airy, open loft layout, exposed brick, built-​in mini bar, oversized leather chairs, full-​length standing mirrors. I literally forgot it was a work night in the dead cold of a Cleveland winter. I was in a lovely oasis of soft light. I even caught a glimpse of the owner who was styling another client’s hair a few chairs down and who, I’m told, designed the interior of the place as well. Talk about local business-​owner superstar.
So I expected at least $ 80 for my cut; instead, $ 50 got me waaaay more than a cut without me even asking (in order of receiving): glass of wine, head and shoulder massage, shampoo, haircut, styling, hair product recommendation, offer of complimentary trims between cuts!
The only hitch I had was with the receptionist. The phone attendant was so rude, I almost decided to cancel. Luckily, I ended up having extra time and going anyway but even when I arrived, the front desk attendant completely ignored me. She became completely friendly when I was paying afterwards though. My recommendation: when you’re the first point of contact with a company, keep it professional. You can really give the wrong impression about a good thing.
Still, Zen is definitely a salon with the ambiance and results of a top-​notch spa. On top of looking absolutely fabulous, I came away with a sumptuous, luxuriously relaxing experience and I’ll definitely be returning for those never-​too-​many self-​pampering days.
