Metropolitan at The 9, Autograph Collection

A big shout out to the Metropolitan at the 9 in Cleveland, OH. I stay here regularly and am impressed with the outstanding customer service and attention to detail by Pam (manager). She truly works hard to make everything perfect! Additionally, Alex is a Star at the Ledger Bar. He isn’t just a ‘bartender;’ no, he’s a mixologist with a flair for friendly fare, extensive knowledge of his craft, and remembering your name! In his absence (which, it seems like he is always working), Kate and Rebecca do their best to extend a great Ledger experience. Bravo!

I didn’t stay at the hotel but I did come here for a CD release at the ALEX theatre and had a meal here. WOW — this place is BEAUTIFUL. Super classy. I was blown away with how elegant and beautiful it was inside.

from the first person I spoke with (Lauren) who assisted me in making sure the family was well taken care of with a great room, to Jennifer at the front desk, who went COMPLETELY out of her way to ensure my parents 35 wedding anniversary was over the top… I have never been so blown away with customer service (and I work in a 5 star hotel myself)
They haven’t even checked in yet and I already am forever in love with this property.

Beautiful, trendy hotel in downtown CLE! Feels like you’re in NYC when you’re here! Everything is upscale! Rooftop bar and the Vault are a bonus to the uniqueness of this hotel! Definitely worth the price to stay here! Highly recommend for anyone looking for a really cool and fun place to stay downtown!

I stayed in this hotel for 4 weeks.
Chris at the front desk was so nice and helpful. He always had smile on his face and was very accommodating. Also, the person that help you carry your bags to your rooms (I think his name was Damian?) was super nice, too.
On the other hand, the other front desk guy (I didn’t even bother to remember his name) was so rude and nasty. One time, I asked him to break $ 20 bill because of the valet, he didn’t say anything (not even «OK» or «Sure»), went in the back, came back and just threw the change on the desk. I didn’t even hear one word from him. I never saw him with a smile in that 4 long weeks. As this hotel is Marriott group, don’t they tell front desk employees to put fake smiles on their face even bad days!!!
On Fridays and Saturdays, some party people check in to have parties in the rooms. Sometimes I heard screams and loud noises at 2 in the morning. So if you are thinking about staying here with your kids on a weekend, I would cancel it and stay in another hotel.
No coffee machine in the room. Either room service or 1^st floor lobby coffee service from 5am to 9am.

I have stayed in some great hotels, but this one may be my favorite. Beautiful décor throughout the whole hotel. The rooms are spacious and perfectly decorated with an amazing bathroom and large living area. There is a bar/​club in the basement which made bachelorette bar hopping great to start and end the night. Staff is very courteous. Everything you could want in a great hotel stay. Be aware however that valet parking is 38 dollars, which i thought was a tad steep for Cleveland, Ohio and don’t touch anything in the minibar area due to the products being on sensors and the front desk will immediately charge you whether you put it back or not. I was about to call once I got my bill and they took off the extra charges. A great secure venue as well.

Great time on the RSRV floor like always. Dane was a great curator and host. Highly recommend!

The suite was lovely, we had a great stay. They let us have a later checkout we didn’t ask for till that morning. It was important and they accommodated.
The restaurant was good, closes at a weird time in the afternoon. We had just made it in time. I will be staying here again.

What a lovely hotel. I felt like I was in Vegas and not in Cleveland. Wow! The room, lobby, and hallways were all lovely, bright, and clean. The bar looked fantastic, but we did not have enough time to enjoy drinks here. This is a MUST stay hotel if you are in Cleveland.

EXTREMELY BAD customer service. I decided to order food from the late night Menu. I then called Sabra from the restaurant and she had a horrible attitude. She questioned me about my burnt food that I ordered from room service and she had someone come up and check it to «make sure I took only one bite». She talked down to me as if I lived on the streets. I told her to not call back after I sent the food down and she continued calling anyways as if my request did not apply to her. Wether you are a CEO, a bum or LeBron no one should be talked down to. If she were one of my employees she would be fired immediately. Never coming back here EVER. I’m a business owner and I understand how customer service works and this makes the hotel look more like a 1 star motel. I hope the calls are recorded and monitored.

Beautiful modern room with alot of space. We had a room with two queen beds and a living room area. The room was huge as well as the bathroom. Hotel was very clean. We usually stay at another Cleveland hotel every year around this time but will be returning here next time instead. As a tip valet parking is expensive so if possible don’t bring a car or park elsewhere.

This place is beautiful and the employees are really friendly! Def looking forward to our next stay here!

Let me start off by saying that they just lost a potential HUGE corporate client due to their overly sexualized and tacky décor.
— This is not a place to bring families
— This is not a place to put up any business clients or anyone you would actually like to make eye contact with in the future
— This IS a good place if you want to play out a 50 Shades of Gray fantasy
What is so terrible about the room? Well, the art on the walls leaves something to be desired. «inspirational» wall art includes silhouettes of naked women with a red (blood looking) liquid surrounding them… yeah really classy. Also, the shower is IN the bedroom. I was sharing the room with my wife so privacy wasn’t an issue, however if I was sharing the room with say, my sister or friend I would be mortified to take a shower (which is mostly seethrough)
Horrible décor aside the bed wasn’t all that comfy, water glasses did not have plastic or anything else on it to prove that it was clean, and there wasn’t a coffee machine in the room. Our room was kind of tucked away but we still heard a good amount of hallway noise (doors unlocking and closing)

Stayed here for a quick trip to Cleveland and I’d definitely stay here again (if I were again able to use the Marriott Friends/​Family discount). The hotel IS pretty pricey but it’s very nice.
THE GOOD: The glass of champagne upon check is a nice touch. My King room was clean and comfortable. Electrical plugs and dimming light switches are well placed, the Samsung SmartTV is amazing, lighted magnifying mirror in bathroom is great. The bed was good, firm if that’s what you’re into. The in-​room wifi signal is super strong. Never had an issue connecting or staying connected. I love the shower in the room… though it did take a minute for the water to get hot and the pressure leaves something to be desired… it’s super spacious and very sexy. (Speaking of sexy, this isn’t a room that you’d share with someone you’re uncomfortable with. The bathroom as a whole is NOT a separate entity and though the shower has wavy glass, you can still totally see silhouettes through it.)
I don’t believe there’s a way that anyone who is not staying at the hotel is able to get onto any floor outside of the lobby and basement. You need a room key to operate the elevators. I think this is great for security reasons. There’s a Heinen’s grocery store attached and although you have to walk outside to get to its entrance, it’s well-​stocked and the employees were very helpful. The hotel is very close to major downtown attractions. Location is perfect.
THE MEH: I tried to use the extra blanket they have stocked in the cabinet one night. It smelled clean but it left fuzzies all over the bed. Took it off and turned the heat up instead. There are very nice quality drinking glasses in the room but nobody should ever drink out of those. Germ city! I get wanting to keep things fancy but the hotel should seriously consider providing wrapped plastic cups. Maybe put them in the very fancy ice bucket so they’re not in plain view? There is no desk in the room. This was a bit surprising. This could be sucky for business travelers or people who want to eat their room service on something other than their laps. I was awakened early (like 2am) this morning by housekeeping knocking on my door. When I didn’t answer they called my room. They thought I had requested a dental kit. Wrong room. Grrrrrrr. Then I was awakened again at about 4am but someone pounding on the walls in the hallway. I know that every guest isn’t a good guest but it was super annoying. Not the hotel’s fault and I know you risk things like this when there is a bar and nightclub on site. I stayed in room 1116. The view was abysmal. I just kept the curtains closed. Valet parking is expensive as hell. If you drive around a bit, you are sometimes able to find street parking within walking distance. Good luck!

This is definitely a high-​end place but it’s definitely worth going lots of little nooks and crannies to hang out in.

My wife and I stayed here for a quick weekend getaway. Very friendly staff, nice rooms, clean and excellent location. Champagne upon check in was a nice touch. 1 star subtracted for the little things that need touching up – lightbulbs in room burnt out; window leaked during a storm; no water in the room.
Great bar though (shout out to Jen and Kate), excellent gym, and free wifi. we would definitely stay here again.

Excellent, excellent property with rooftoop bar open in good weather, a restaurant/​bar on the first floor, a hotel bar on the second floor, and a swanky dance club in the basement (a former bank vault). This is definitely the most swanky building in Cleveland, and is a must see/​visit if you are in town or are simply a Cleveland resident. Highly recommended. By the way — dress to impress when going to the 9!

Stayed here for business. This place is AWESOME.
The staff is top notch, run well, fantastic guest service. They do it right. The rooms are sweet. Restaurants, meeting rooms = awesomeness.

To be clear, my only review here is of the associated parking garage (where the valet associated with The 9 parks), and NOT the hotel. This is a private garage owned by the same owners of The 9 (according to their front desk). My vehicle window was smashed in and my car was broken into, while my car was parked next to the lit stairwell on the fourth story. I understand that one parks at their own risk, but the owner of the garage offered zero sympathy. The police officer also told me that this is not an uncommon occurrence at The 9 parking garage. Cleveland has a great downtown but in my opinion, avoid staying at a hotel with this risk and find another hotel in Cleveland that has more secure parking.

The coolest hotel I’ve ever seen. Great front desk staff, 1 night club, a roof top bar, and world class restaurant, a crafted cocktail style bar, a full blown 24 hour gym, a yoga studio, and REALLY NICE rooms. It’s almost like Vegas in Cleveland.

Great hotel for the price!
Stayed here when my parents and I went on a roadtrip to Pittsburgh and Cleveland. This hotel was cheaper than the one in Pitts and it was better. Walking in I felt like I went back to Elvis Presley time because of the red and black velvet feels incorporated within the lobby.
The front desk guy who helped us check in was super friendly. This is a dog friendly hotel because we saw residents with dogs come in and out throughout our stay. While we were checking in, a resident’s dog ran up to the front desk guy and he told us the dog knows him because he always gives him treats (irrelevant but thought it was cute.) He gave us a quick tour and sent us up into the elevator.
The elevator was so cool! I don’t know if this has been around, but this was the first time I saw it. There’s an electronic touchpad where you tap your room key on and then you tap the floor you have to go on and then the pad will tell you which elevator to go to. I thought it was pretty cool!
When we stepped into our room it was HUGE! It was the longest hotel room we’ve ever stayed at and it felt like an actual apartment. The décor was gorgeous, the room was clean, just fantastic! It was a very modern vibe, which I love. I don’t like the old victorian hotels because they seem outdated and old.
One night we ordered room service, I got some kind of shrimp pasta, which was a VERY small serving for the price but what do ya expect? Room service food is there to rip you off but when a girl is hungry, you gotta do what you gotta do. My dad also ordered a piece of chocolate cake as well as a coffee pot that had 3 – 4 servings. The worker that brought it to us was very nice and was super helpful and hospitable. As my dad was making his coffee he realized she forgot the cream (or sugar I forgot) but without even calling she sent someone back up to give us what was missing.
My parents and I are super clean freaks and we notice every little thing but our hotel room was spotless and super clean!

I blocked 20 rooms at the 9 for my wedding weekend. My guests booked all 20 rooms, many of which stayed Friday and Saturday night. My now wife and I also stayed Friday and Saturday night.
I’ll start with the positives:
— The hotel is in a good location
— the restaurants and bars at the hotel are pretty cool places to go to but there is a huge caveat to that which will be detailed in the negatives
— the rooms are all suites which is nice
And now to the negatives…
Customer service was pretty rough. It seems as if the Metropolitan focuses on telling you what you can’t do versus what a hotel should be saying «what can I do for you» which is what the hospitality business is supposed to do.
After our rehearsal dinner on Friday night the entire group that was staying at the hotel decided to go back to the rooftop bar for a drink. There were about 20 of us. We told the hotel staff we wanted to go up and they first said we needed to go get wrist bands from someone else. That person gave us wristbands and then a staff members walked us over to some elevator to take us up to the bar. We got to the bar and the door men told us we can’t come in because one of the guests was wearing casual shoes. They literally made 20 of us who were guests at their hotel turn around and go back down the elevator because one person was wearing Vans shoes. The GM, Ahmed, ended up correcting the situation thankfully once we got downstairs and some back and forth was said between me and the hotel staff. BTW — all of the staff said «too bad» until Ahmed jumped in and fixed the situation. I thank him for that, but it is unfortunate that It took me escalating all the way to the GM for them to recognize they should take care of their customers who have 20 rooms occupied in their hotel.
(my wife and I stayed at two other Marriott Autograph Collection hotels during our honeymoon after the wedding. One in Venice, Italy and one in Milan, Italy. Both of them upgraded our rooms because we were on our honeymoon. And the one in Milan even sent up Prosecco and fresh fruit as a gift after we checked in. When we checked in to the Metropolitan they didn’t even acknowledge that it was our wedding. No congratulations. No upgrade and definitely no special treatment.)
— Elevators — they are using some new age elevator system that is next to impossible to master in a weekend. It’s honestly an extremely inefficient system that seems to be in there just to seem cool and different. You have to choose your floor when you hit the elevator button (no up/​down option). It then tells you which elevator to get on. Then if that elevator is missed or full you have to start all over again. Everyone I saw at the elevators was having trouble with this system
–In room refrigerator — it’s great to have a mini bar when you want to use it but it’s also nice to have a refrigerator in your room. In these rooms you can’t have both. If you move anything in the fridge you get charged for it. There are sensors on all things in the fridge and if you so much as move a red bull from one place to another you will be charged for it. Even if you don’t consume it.

Fun Atmosphere /​not well thought out ergonomically.
No coffee maker in the rooms, no robes — for the price these should come standard.
Not kid-​friendly.

At any point during my stay at this property I felt like some serious stuff was about to go down. If you are into that pseudo gangsta vibe — stay here.

This hotel is absolutely magnificent with a hipster vibe! I want to go back to Cleveland just to stay in this hotel again!!!
The staff were friendly, helpful and made you feel at home. The hotel is tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. Our room was one of the most unique and fun rooms I have ever stayed in and I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels.
You will not be disappointed if you choose to stay here!

While the local Ritz may connote more old school luxury; the Met at the 9 has the things I believe the next generation of travelers is looking for. Free wi fi, a great theater showing cavs games, a modern lobby that is always vibrant, and in the rooms, the smart televisions are magnificent.

The Metropolitan is a magnificent hotel in Cleveland.
The location is fantastic. It’s within walking distance of Progressive Field, Quicken Loans arena, Playhouse Square, the Warehouse District, and tons of restaurants and bars.
I arrived at the hotel at about 10:30 on a Thursday. I knew it was early, so I just asked the gentleman at the front desk if I could keep my bag somewhere while I did some sightseeing. Thankfully a room was available and the gentleman happily checked me in.
The room was gorgeous. Modern and upscale, but very comfortable. The room had a king sized bed, sitting area and a large, very nice TV. My only complaint was that there was no mini fridge in the room.
As others have mentioned, be careful of the mini bar snacks. They are über sensitive. I just ended up touching the phone charger and was billed. They were more than happy to remove the charge.
During my stay, I dined at the restaurant, Adega. Breakfast was fantastic. I also had a drink at the Ledger Bar in the hotel. The staff were nice, but $ 15.00 for a mediocre cosmo was a bit steep. I also met with some people and went to the Vault Dance Club. It was a blast.
All the staff were extremely friendly. From the Valets, to the Doormen to the housekeeping staff, I was always greeted warmly.
I can’t say enough nice things about this hotel. I’m already planning a trip next year to see an Indians/​Tigers game and I can’t wait!

The food was fantastic and the service was very good but the communication between the party planner and the staff was less than optimal. There was a miscommunication about the way the bills were to be paid and it held up the night by a good 35 min.
Ps. For the prices requested… Please ask the staff to wear black pants and not denim while serving. The look of the servers should match the quality of the kitchen staff and their cooking.

WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE
I’ve never written a hotel review except for a couple of 5 star exerpmeriences but I had to write about this hotel. While the hotel is very well appointed, the staff were extremely rude and were simply obnoxious.
Highlights — The room was dirty, got charged for charges we didn’t incur, cold room service, terrible recommendations from the front desk, aggressive security staff, etc
Just a terrible experience.

Definitely the hot place to be right now. Contemporary, clean, sexy, right down to the art on the walls and bar napkins. I love the attention to details. If looking to add a little spice to your life, this would be the place!
Bring your spouse for a sexy rendezvous! Or go stag and meet someone!

We stayed here over the Browns/​Raiders (woof, woof!) The room itself was awesome! We booked the king suite (I am a government contractor and received a hefty discount). The suite was an open floor plan, so the bath and shower were not enclosed in a separate room. The toilet, thankfully, was. The tub was extremely large and featured a shower head attachment. The room had a distinct living area with a flat screen tv, wrap around couch, ottoman, chair and footrest. The living area also had a fireplace, but it was decorative. There was another flat screen television across from a queen sized bed.
I didn’t check out the amenities but was told there is a nightclub and theater with reclining chairs.
My only disappointment was room service. It simply wasn’t good. I also wouldn’t book the room for business (no desk). Finally, if you need a fridge, you’ll need to order one from the front desk. Theirs is stocked with a private bar.
