I recently took advantage of a local Amazon deal to get my Brakes Redone at a local shop in Clackamas (AAMCO Transmission). They were advertising Front or Rear Brake Service that included Brake Pads, Resurfacing of Rotors, and Tire Rotation with Labor included for $ 59, which is normally a $ 250 Value. Being a Single Dad, I am trying to always look for the best deals to save money and I thought that this was a ‘Killer Deal’. I made the appointment and dropped my car off the next morning. The owner was nice enough and he let me know that he’d be calling to share with me the status of my brakes.
Within two hours of dropping the vehicle off, I received a call that my rotors on my Front brakes were warped, that I needed ceramic brake pad because that’s what was recommended by Honda, that I needed front brakes replaced, that the brake fluid needed flushed and I had leaking oil due to a faulty valve cover gasket. Holy Schnikes!!! Really? How much is that going to be? Since I already paid for the voucher, which included labor, they would subtract that from the price and my new total would be $ 320. I let him know that I just couldn’t afford that right now and that I would be picking up the car until I could budget what I needed.
My instinct after I had my car picked up was to call the mechanic my family has been using for 20 years. I called them and explained the situation. I knew I needed new brakes because I could hear metal on metal — I was overdue. A couple days later after further inspection from the mechanic my family has used, this is what they found:
1)ZERO issues with Front Brakes with 80% left —
2)Brake Fluid was good to go
3)ZERO issues with Valve Cover Gasket
4)My Rear Brakes were TOAST and needed to be replaced.
WTF, AAMCO??? Not only did you lie about what was going on with my car, you misrepresented what you were advertising. After checking Unilocal, I see that a few other people had the same issues. I almost had my front brakes done and would have driven away with the original issue not being fixed.
My advice, as I almost learned a hard lesson today is; Do your research! Ask questions! If it’s almost too good to be true, it probably is! You get what you pay for!
I was fortunate the Amazon Local Deals refunded my money. I would not recommend using AAMCO transmissions. It was evident that one of two things was going on; either 1) I was being lied to and being taken for a ride or 2) they were 100% incompetent in what they do, either way, not a company I want to be doing business with.

This place is under new management and doing an outstanding job of fixing situations related to the previous manager (I am one of those with a problem). Bottom line– wrong brakes put on my Xterra and they (new Mgr Michael and owner) sat down w/​me and not only fixed the problem, they kept me informed every step along the way, which included owning up to another mistake that was made. Their transparency and honest effort to keep me as a customer was much appreciated and I will continue to come here even though I live in Vancouver.

I usually do my brake service myself but was recovering from surgery so when I saw the Amazon Local deal for $ 59.99 I decided to check it out. I know how these deals work as they make their money on the up sell. So I called them and was told they did a free 21 point inspection and would give me a call before they started to go over what they found.
I was going to wait to buy the deal until after I talked to them. Eric called me and I too was told that ceramic brake pads were required. He then said the Amazon deal included organic semi metallic brake pads but he could do the ceramic ones for $ 51. Since the deal was $ 59.99 and he says they can do it for $ 51 I asked him, «$ 51 total»? He said yes.
When I called to check if they were done, which was later than he promised, Eric said «I never include the cost of the certificate, I just quote our extra charges». I reminded him that I had asked if that was total and he said again that was the extra charges and I misunderstood. I told him that I thought it was very odd that it required ceramic pads as all my Nissan’s had never «Required» them before and that I would be calling the dealer to ask and was on my way to pick it up. Of course when I called the dealer they said the OEM pads are semi-​metallic, and then I called the shop I usually go to and they concurred. I was Pissed!
When I arrived I told Eric of my phone conversations and he said not to worry he wasn’t going to charge me as he did remember saying yes when I asked if that was the total and said it was his fault as he could see how the misunderstanding took place.
Since he didn’t charge me the extra I gave them 3 stars. I was going to rate them lower just because of the dishonesty about the pads required. Still not sure if he didn’t charge me because he really thought it was his fault or because I told him I was calling the dealer when I got off the phone.

Saw the email from Amazon Local for Front or Rear Brake Service (Includes Brake Pads, Resurfacing of Rotors, and Labor) at AAMCO Transmissions & Total Car Care — Clackamas. I read the fine print and it stated «Offer valid for most makes and models; contact merchant for details».
I contacted AAMCO Clackamas and spoke with «Tom» and after giving him me vehicle information (2007 Infiniti FX-​35), he «confirmed» that my vehicle fit the profile and I was good to go.
Purchased the deal and then made an appointment a few weeks later. I delivered the vehicle the night before my appointment and was assisted by «Erik». I again asked that AAMCO confirm that my vehicle fit the profile and again was assured that it did.
The next day, I received a call from «Erik» who informed me that my vehicle required ceramic brake pads rather than the standard semi-​metallic pads that are included with this deal (as expected, he also tried to upsell me for a brake fluid flush, a new hardware kit and additional labor — that would all come to over $ 400).
I indicated that the semi-​metallic pads would be fine. He then indicated that he could not install semi-​metallic pads as they required rotor work and I just wouldn’t be satisfied with the results.
At this point, I indicated that I just wanted my car buttoned back up and I would take my business elsewhere.
I applied for a refund from Amazon (pending) due to the mis-​representation that my vehicle met the «Valid for most makes and models» requirement. If they had checked, they could have told me at the beginning that my vehicle required special pads and I would not have purchased the deal.
Update: Raised the score from one star to 3 stars — Tom and I renegotiated the repair and agreed on a compromise and the service was performed at a reduces additional charge. Might have moved this to a four star, but the «Free Brake Flush» he promised was not performed according to the paperwork.

I had mike replace the clutch and the day I got it back it began to make a grinding noise when shifting. I also noticed when I disengaged the clutch the pedal would still have an inch or so to fully be disengaged. I’ve gone back 3 times complaining of the same issues. They say oh I will let the mechanic drive it and we will go from there. Needless to say. my car still makes the noise and there is no problem.

Mike was very helpful in diagnosing and charged me very honestly to solve the issue. Will go back.
