Grace Dental Care

I’d give this place –5 stars if I could. My grandpa is covered by health insurance and his dental care was under this horrible place. His gums were hurting and he wanted a new set of dentures, but this place only cares about money and told him he should just stick to his original ones. Now he can’t even eat properly because he can’t wear his dentures for more than a certain amount of time. I also heard my friends telling me that this place doesn’t do a good job with teeth in the first place. Thank God my grandpa no longer has to deal with this crappy service and dentist.
Just read all the reviews. All he cares about is money. It’s funny how the only three people who gave this place 5 stars happen to post at the same time. Probably made his friends write fake reviews for the sake of his unworthy title as a dentist. This place needs to go out of business.
To Mr. Cha and the rest of your untrained staff members, please do our community a favor and stop… For the sake of everyone’s dental health.

If I could, I would rate this dental care a 0. This place is a bunch of money hungry adults who don’t give two damns about their patients dental issues. Worst experience ever.

I want to share my experience at Grace dental care.
I was a patient since 2005 almost 10years. I had a good treatment which is no problem until
crown was done perfectly so couldn’t find the difference between my tooth and crown. Explanation about treatment was accurate and understandable, treatment fee was reasonable.
I recommend Grace dental to my friend because Dr. cha is dependable, reliable and very skillful dentist.
These days no more cigarette smell.
I think that he quit smoking
which is really good for me and himself.

I am so happy I could find this dental office. I love this office and have been a patient here for over 5 years. Dr. Cha and his staff are extremely professional and friendly. All the staff made me feel welcome. There are smiles on all the employees’ faces and a cheerful greeting as well. My appointments are always on time and treatment completed in a timely manner. During my appointments at his office, Dr. Cha took the time to explain processes and procedures and answered all the questions I had and made sure I felt comfortable before he started treatment on me. I’m very satisfied with the root canal and crown I had done here. No pain at all. He did an amazing job at doing my tooth problems. Dr. Cha is awesome and excellent!
I have already refereed Dr. Cha to my family member. My daughter’s front teeth were so ugly but, Dr. Cha did an excellent job fixing them too. Now my daughter has a great smile to share with the world. If anyone is looking for a new dentist, I highly recommend this office!!!

I am seriously surprised this place even still exists…
So I had some work done back in 2007 – 2009 and I must say that this is the worst experience that I have ever had with a orthodontist. He constantly reeked of cigarettes as so many other reviewers have stated, and had no real people skills. He was absolutely horrid to his staff and there were constantly new people working for him. Dr. Cha was also the only orthodontist on site who apparently does not know how to properly schedule people. I would come in for my appointment on time and would end up waiting in the chair for another hour and half while falling asleep…
I had several root canals done here along with my braces. The root fillings constantly fell out and had to be replaced by another dentist. Braces… I would have been absolutely better off without them. Yea my teeth would have been crooked, but at least my jaw was still straight. I had a horrible experience here with braces. His dental assistants were poorly trained and took hours to replace my rubber bands and have made me bleed on several occasions because they slipped and stabbed my gums… My brackets constantly fell off and he started to say it was my fault and wanted to charge us an unreasonable amount to reapply them. Seriously Dr. Cha? I totally sit at home trying to rip off my brackets because I love being at your office so much!
When I had my braces taken off, I had permanent retainers applied to my lower teeth which fell off constantly. Yes… TOTALLY PERMANENT! You would think that for something that is supposed to stay on and falls off when I’m doing absolutely nothing would be replaced free of charge. Nope! Not with Dr. Cha because according to him you’re some monster who feels the need to constantly rip things off your teeth for amusement so that you may be at your beloved orthodontist office constantly! Who needs a life when you have Dr. Cha as your ortho?!
In the end, I found out his braces fixed absolutely nothing for me. I have gone to other ortho’s and dentist who have said that my teeth are completely screwed (Yes, I went to several orthos/​dentist so that I may get an accurate consultation). He took all my moms money since I was a minor at the time and we do not have health insurance. IF ALL THESE BAD REVIEWS DON’T TURN YOU AWAY, I DON’T KNOW WHAT WILL! (Seriously 0 stars is being nice, this place deserves a –5 stars)

The worse place to go. Especially you have HMO insurance. Staff are fine and nice. The dentist is not recommended at all.

All I wanted was to have my wisdom tooth extracted, and here’s what happened:
On the day of the surgery, the front desk receptionist called to cancel the appointment. Her name is Maria.
When asked why, she said the dentist couldn’t perform and wanted to refer out. Fair enough. She said she needs to request from health insurance company a referring office and sends a referral form to the insurance company. I asked how long would this take? She said 3 days. THREE DAYS.
One week later, I spoke with Gina, the office manager. She said that Maria was new and was wrong. It would take a month. Fine. Out of mine and their control.
One month later, I got a letter from insurance to find out the form was incomplete. Called to ask why. Turns out that the referral form needs to go to ME to give to the referred dental office, NOT to the health insurance company, as they have nothing to do with it. At this point I was livid, as I’ve waited a whole month (close to 2) for nothing while my wisdom teeth have been acting up.
I went back to the office to clarify with Maria, who happened to be out of the office for lunch even though she said her lunch was 12−1pm when I called in the morning. I spoke with a dental hygienist, who seemed frustrated, but I don’t blame her. She got pulled into a mess that she didn’t create. All this time the office manager is nowhere to be found.
Then, finally getting a new referral (30-​day time limit on a direct referral), I went to the new office to see if that was enough. Sure enough, it was good. Now they’ll need my panoramic X-​ray.
Today I took an hour off early from work to come to their office, arrived at 4:45pm on Tuesday. Their office is closed despite the fact that I had called earlier to come pick up the X-​ray. This is absurd beyond belief.
Oh, and they charged me $ 40 for a copy of the X-​ray. Wouldn’t budge on waiving the fee. The other dental office charges $ 25.
TL;DR
Terrible customer service by Maria at the front desk. She has the professionalism of a 12-​year old.
I waited 2 months for what could’ve taken 2 hours, which was just a simple written referral.

Agreed with the horrible smell of Dr. Cha– he tries to hide the cigarettes, but you can’t hide it when you’re working in someone’s mouth.
I started coming here last year and didn’t have many problems, or I didn’t realize the issues that were coming up.
I had six fillings done from March 16, 2013 to May 6. After the first 2 or 3, they started telling me that my insurance was maxed out and i had to pay everything out of pocket. They seem so nice and I knew my insurance barely covered anything so I believed them and started paying hundreds out of pocket for the rest of the fillings.
About a month later I speak with my insurance in an attempt to increase my coverage and find out that they only billed my insurance for the first three fillings AND I had enough to cover the 80% on the rest of the fillings! I contacted Gina, the one who handles the accounting the same day and she kept telling me that she’d look into it. She first said that it was the root canal I had done that wasn’t covered by my insurance. I didn’t argue that, but I paid for that out of pocket too. She then argued that the insurance doesn’t cover the type of filling I put in because it’s more expensive. This made no sense because the fillings were all done using the same filling and they submitted the first three so there’s no reason not to have my insurance cover the rest. It also made no sense because they never told me I’d have to cover the insurance– this also isn’t how they billed me for it! (I confirmed with Anthem that they have contracted fees, and whatever the dentist charges over that fee is loss for the dentist). She kept changing the reasoning, then went into several excuses of her personal life. She stated that she was sick for awhile, and the dentist was sick (WHY WAS HE DRILLING IN MY MOUTH WHILE SICK???).
I called 2 – 4 times a week for the next month. She was never in the office. I went into the office 2x and she wasn’t there. I dropped off a spreadsheet for her in May and even faxed it to the office, showing her what was owed to me (what I paid, what should have been covered by my insurance if they had submitted it, and how much of my insurance remained to prove my insurance wasn’t tapped out). For the past 3 weeks Gina was impossible to get ahold of. I kept leaving messages asking her to call me back and didn’t get a response. This morning I had to call twice– the second time on a blocked number because they didn’t even pick up the first time. They said they’d have Gina call me as soon as she walked in. 5 hours later I call back and Gina answers. I could hear some of the staff laughing in the background as I told Gina that she told me THREE WEEKS AGO that she’d fix the problems and get back to me. Gina then tried to make up more excuses that they were shortstaffed and she’s been really busy (funny because Gina was never there when I would walk in, and the receptionists always told me Gina was out of the office when I’d call).
Gina finally promised me today that a check was sent to my address for the amount that was overpaid. We’ll see if I get it within 5 days.
Also, I looked at the explanation of benefits from my insurance. I compared the statement for May with the previous one in March (which shows the first three procedures submitted to my dentist). It’s funny that the dentist’s submitted fees went from $ 160 for each of the first three procedures up to $ 250 for the last three procedures. They were all for fillings and had the same procedure code! So my insurance actually paid the dentist more for the second set of fillings than for the first, leaving me with less insurance coverage for when I actually find an ethical dental office.

Well, what can I say that hasn’t already been said about doctor Young Ho Cha of Grace Dental Care, Rowland Heights, California? When I first starting going there in 2009 everything seemed so nice; charming, ostensibly Christian folks assuring you that all is well… until you need some real dental work done and then it’s time to enroll in your CareCredit account. That’s when everything went south! Never mind that the whole time I’m going there his staff members kept disappearing, one by one, who all seemed to have reasons for moving on or being fired for something they had done. Never mind that I soon found that the initially charming doctor lacked any chair-​side manner. He seemed to work very hard at being a pleasant fellow, as he proceeded to stick you with his needle, but it just never came off as sincere. And when you tried to ask him to slow down long enough for the local anesthesia to take effect, he snickered with a condescending nod, and continued coming at you with his dastardly needle. Never have I ever experienced more excruciating physical pain than the infamous doctor Cha’s needle. Compared to his hideous shots, the implants and surgery were a mere walk in the park.
But far beyond the physical pain (which I’m sure is the greatest dread of any potential dentist patient), I have never experienced more pain than the pain I have experienced when it comes to the man’s billing practices. Once again, I am referring to his incorporation of the CareCredit card service. This is where the real pain came into play, pain that after more than two years still has yet to be alleviated. So once Dr. Cha convinced me that I would need extensive dental work, he invited me to sign up for CareCredit and so naturally I did without much thought as to what I was getting myself into. When I first signed up, then, I was happy that they provided me with what I was told would be an $ 8,000 line of credit. Now to those of you who know anything about CareCredit you might already be aware that this particular service claims that it can not only be used for dental care, but that it can also be used for medical and vision services as well, so I liked that added bonus and was looking forward to using some of my $ 8,000 for that in the future. But little did I know doctor Cha and his revolving door of a staff failed to mention there was one minor flaw in my plan. For you see when you sign up for your CareCredit card, courtesy of the ever-​so-​charming doctor Cha, what they don’t tell you is that they immediately bill you for the total amount of your credit limit, thus negating any of the promises that the CareCredit card people so graciously offer their customers. Apparently it never occurred to the wonderful folks at Grace Dental to mention this fatal flaw in their quaint offer to provide me with their dental services.
That’s when I found out the awful truth about their underhanded billing procedures. When I asked them why I had been charged for a total of $ 8,000, for which I had only received $ 5,500 worth of actual services, they flatly informed me that that was their standard procedure to charge a person for the full amount of their card. To which I then asked them: What if I had intended to use some of my credit line to pay for other services for which CareCredit had advertised and forgone some of the dental work that the dentist was recommending? Never did I anticipate such an incredible lack of concern. When I asked them about the unethical nature of charging me in advance for $ 2,500 worth of services they had not yet rendered, doctor Cha’s financial person simply shrugged her shoulders and said that she was simply following normal business procedures. Well, as you can imagine, this was the straw that broke the proverbial camel’s back. That was when I contacted CareCredit directly and was advised to request that the doctor refund the $ 8,000 and bill me for the more accurate $ 5,500, but when I asked Grace Dental to comply with CareCredit’s request, I was informed that doctor Cha refused to do so because he wanted to avoid all the messy paperwork.
So the moral of this entire tragedy, from start to finish: Beware of grinning dentists bearing the gift of credit, poised with needles to dull the pain. Meanwhile, unsuspecting, gullible saps like me (and God forbid someone like you) are left to pick up the pieces of my precarious credit card experience, with the faltering help of the people at CareCredit, who admittedly abhor the practices of such shady operators like the «gracious» doctor Cha, and who assure me that they will continue to make every attempt to rectify such absurd business practices. So the next time you plan on going to a dentist, don’t merely take into account the physical pain that you’ll likely be expected to endure, take even more care to beware of the financial burden that might last long after the effects of the Novocain have worn off.

i finally decided to face my fears and call grace dental to see if they would consider replacing the dark colored crown that was put in 5 yrs. ago since it was paid for. dr. cha’s wife answered the phone and she was very nice and understanding and told me to come in. i was nervous but i went and was treated very kind by everyone there including dr. cha. in 3 appt’s., he replaced my crown and made it a color that blends with my own teeth and he apologized and was actually, very nice. my new crown is beautiful and i’m glad i went.

The WORST dental experience of my life. Dr. Cha: smells like cigarettes, is rude, has a difficult accent to understand, left me for long periods of time, he had to correct his techs who were labeling the right side of my teeth as my left, didn’t want to finish my consultation, said after two hours, that I had to come back. is one of the worst communicators I’ve met in my life, is insensitive, said I needed to cap every single tooth in my mouth, even though since then I’ve had 2 more dentists tell me that is not true, said «I don’t know what we’re going to do with your mouth», as if scare tactics would work.
His wife Gina helps him run shop. She said she would work with me on installment payments whether I could get a loan or not. She said not to tell Dr. Cha because he would get mad. She seemed nice at first, but once I was denied a loan, even though I had some money I could put down on a credit card, they didn’t return my calls.
At one point, I needed emergency care and couldn’t speak to the Dr. or his wife, whom the techs said were the only ones I could talk to. It took 3 days, no returned phone calls. When I finally did speak to him, he was yelling at me, said there are no such things as installment plans, that he would not put Gina on the phone, and he hung up! Just like that.
I truly don’t know if he has the credentials or degree to work on people. His wife said something about him being told what to do in school and that they only had $ 7000 left to pay on their business any way.
Very shady. I’d actually think they’d want to harm someone for writing an adverse review. They don’t care at all. Physicians take an OATH to care for people, to practice ethical business practices. This office violated several oaths and they’re lucky I don’t want to pursue my issues with them on a legal level.

Huh. It seems people here have had some pretty bad experiences. I’m so glad to say I haven’t run into any of those problems. Srsly glad.
Been coming here for several years. I never really had anything done here other than some regular checkups, x-​rays, and the occasional deep cleaning.
They are well equipped, well stocked, and well lit. Very clean too, every potential contaminatable (is that even a word?) surface is covered with protective film. X-​rays are connected to a computer in each room which allows for instant scanning. The monitor is facing you as well, so you get to see all the bitty gritty parts in the inside of your mouth too. Pretty cool.
Every visit has been pleasant enough and I never really had to wait very long. The dental assistants are some of the nicest, coolest, and down to earth people I’ve met. The doctor himself is a little gruff and could work on his bedside manner, but that’s not too big of a deal to me. Maybe its because hes stressed? As it seems that hes the only primary doctor here, he seems to be overworked.

I made an appointment for my brother and myself 2 and ½ weeks ago. The appointment was for 1130 and 1200 on Saturday. I stop by a week before the appointment to drop off my insurance information as they requested. I asked if I should come early to fill out the paperwork and the receptionist told me «not necessary».
Brother and I got there on time and began filling out information. I had a question and I went up the the receptionist and overheard the assistance whisper to the receptionist «hey i dropped the bracken in the back and can’t find it. Can you help me find it?» I don’t know what a bracket is, but I sure hope it doesn’t end up in somone’s mouth.
Around 1210 I was taken in to the chair. As I sat there waiting and while I waited 4 things occured that made me want to leave.
1. The doctor was on the phone as he was doing his procedure, with someone who works for him (I assume). He yelled, «I PAY YOU, I TRAIN YOU AND THIS IS HOW YOU WORK?! COME IN RIGHT NOW OR DON“T COME IN AT ALL.»
2. I told the girl that I have made an appoinment for both the cleaning and exam and asked how long that would take. She tells me the doctor is too busy and he will only do a quick exam and probably won’t have time to clean so you’ll need to come back.
3. He yells at this receptionist/​assitant. «I DONT PAY YOU BOTH TO BE UP THERE. GO TO THE BACK AND WORK!!»
3. One of the girls that got yelled at was in the back crying.
1230. still waiting. I call my brother waiting in the waiting room to ask how long he is willing to wait. He is surprised I’m still waiting in there and doesn’t want to wait too long. Then I hear one the the girls (there are three total and this one is the one that dropped the bracket) yelling at my brother so i rush out.
apparently…as he was on the phone with me she over heard that he doesn’t want to wait too long and tells him to pipe down and that she can see him him right now if he wants. He is confused b/​c I who went in already is still sitting and waiting. so he asked «How can you help me?» Then she tells him to sit down or get out. THat’s when I reached them and I asked him, «DId she just tell you to get out? Is she being a bitch to you?» So I walk over to her and asked, «Did you just tell him to get out?» Her response, «Did you call me a name? If you don’t want to be here then get out.» I asked to see the doctor and she pulls him out to the back and talks to him and the doctor goes back to the exam without coming out. We waited another 15 minutes until the doctor came out. We would have left, but the receptionist wouldn’t give us our paperwork back with our names, social, copy of license and all that. THey refused to take us out of the computer b/​c that’s apparently impossible. Still wouldn’t give back our personal information. Doctor comes out and acts like he has no idea what is going on and wants to know what’s happening. Still with no apology but we got our files at least.
Few other things I heard from the 2 girs (1 girl that was crying in the back didn’t come out) in the process of getting our paperwork back.

«You only waited 5 – 10 minutes. What are you complaining about? Filling out paperwork doesn’t count as waiting so its only been 20 then»
