I’ve wanted to visit this bar for 3 years, ever since I heard that the people behind Wurst Bar took over what used to be Muz’s. I really like Wurst Bar and how can you pass by a dive with rocking chairs out front?! Well, I did for 3 years… Finally made it this past weekend and ended up here two nights in a row! First off, this is definitely a dive bar. There are maybe 10 seats at the bar and then a couple stools around a table and that’s it. It’s not clean and the crowd can be hit or miss. However, Transition Bar has a few things going for it that add up to 4 stars for me: 1. Friendly bartender. This is a no brainer but a bartendress who actually chats to you instead of sitting on her phone or whatever else in between drinks is a win in my book. 2. Free popcorn. Yep. I ate three bowls. 3. The aforementioned rocking chairs. Now, Transition Bar does not have an outside liquor license so technically as soon as you walk out from under the awning in the front you are in danger of open container violations. But the rocking chairs are sweet. 4. Quiet. I was there Saturday and Sunday evenings and both times there were stools easily acquired, which is quite the change from the other side of Mt. Lookout Square on a weekend night. 5. SUPER cheap. $ 5 Bulleit Bourbon, $ 2 Coors Drafts, and overall«the cheapest in the square» according to the bartendress. If you’re into dive bars, or are in the square and just need a break from the chaos, I definitely recommend stopping in for a transition drink!

Divey, cheap, and a perfect get away from college bars near it like millions. Rarely busy but my absolute go to for a drink on the square. Darts in the back are normally missing, Jenga blocks are normally knocked over. Popcorn machine rarely has any popcorn. All of those nice things is not what this dive is about. If you’re looking for something upscale go elsewhere.

Considering what bars are in the rest of the area this place is the best of the lot. It is a small dive bar that has some decent tap offerings and sweet peace and quiet unlike some of the neighboring bars. So if you’re just looking to grab a drink in peace without throwing on a polo this is your place.

How glorious! A dive in Mt. Lookout. A great place to get away from the 20 something party crowd at MLTs and Millions. Tiny space, but everyone is super chill and friendly. It’s a neighborhood hangout and I know I’d be frequenting it if I lived in the area.

Great dive bar in the heart of Mt. Lookout. It’s not like the other bars in MLO. We inevitably have something odd happen… one night there was a bulldog sitting at the bar on a stool, next visit crazy drunk girl tried to fight us and flash us — simultaneously, another time a «regular» bought shots for everyone at the bar. This place exhibits all the qualities that could make it a regular spot, however, it’s often open until 4:00 am which doesn’t make for a productive morning after or days after. Old and young come together in this place that my fiancée warmly(and with good reason) refers to as the«Star Wars Bar». Enough said.

This was our post-softball Monday night bar for the past several weeks. It’s on the NE end of Mt. Lookout Sq, just a few doors down from Ruthai’s and Ramundos. It’s a no-frills bar, but we always had a good time. The drinks are dirt cheap, the employees friendly, and they allow you to bring food in. I’ve ordered a Ramundo’s pizza to bring over there and even had Wurst Bar deliver a meal to my seat at the bar. As with all places in Mt. Lookout, the parking is awful. We typically have to park on a side street a block or more away. All in all, Transition Bar is a pretty good weeknight option for some cheap drinks, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit during the weekend.
