Danny is the man. I’m new to the sport and had way too many questions for my first visit but they were all answered thoroughly and diligently by Mr. Danny (literally an hour of questions regarding products, bike capabilities, etc). I’m also on a tight budget and he was able to pull up all the prices of the things I was considering and gave me backed suggestions on what to purchase first for the health and performance of my bicycle (and myself as a new helmet was the first thing they suggested I purchase). And don’t think I always go in the store to ask questions… I email a lot too lol and they are all replied to in a max of 2 days with no shortage of the content I was seeking.
This place is a higher end store with more of the expensive brands eg. Specialized, Felt, Cervelo so it can be intimidating but even when I brought my not-​so-​nice Fuji cross bike in, it was welcomed like any other bike. They just want to get you back on your bike riding again.
I recommend this place highly as I have not had one remotely negative experience here!

I was between getting a Trek or Specialized mountain bike for my husband. After going to both Pulse Endurance and Trek Superstore I chose the Specialized Crave 29 at Pulse Endurance. Daniel was super helpful and knows his bikes and took the time to explain to me all the details I need to make my decision. He also helped me to pick out a helmet for my son. He’s probably one of the nicest human beings on Earth. I’ve done a lot of bike shopping and I know this will be my place to go to get any biking things I need. They also have an amazing lay away plan.

Pulse recently performed a suspension service which I did not request. They were to look for the cause of a grinding wheel hub and replace/​repair as necessary, and even documented this request in writing on the work order (we established when I brought in the bike that the issue was not the suspension). The wheel work was not performed, though it was charged for (I found broken pieces inside the hub after my bike’s two week stay with them), but the suspension was ‘serviced’. It turns out that service means heavily greasing bolts specifically designed for loctite (the bike’s service manual calls this out). On my first ride after service, one of these four bolts worked loose and was lost; it should never have received grease.
I attempted to work through a refund with the shop, as I’ve documented the wheel issue thoroughly. Instead, I was offered partial store credit, which I found completely unacceptable from a shop that does not tell the truth. I did receive my refund eventually, if unconventionally: I called my credit card company who willingly credited me back for the charge I explained was borderline fraudulent. I stand by my position.
This shop does not communicate well internally or with customers, and the mechanics cannot be trusted to read correct service procedures or record their actions. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for mountain bike service needs, and I myself will never return to the shop.

Shout out to the unprofessional management at Pulse Endurance Sports. Went their for an interview and was told I did well and would be scheduling another interview the next week. Never happened. Called to inquire and was told the manager got back from vacation and would set up an interview with the owner that week. Never happened. I called again and was told the owner was at an «Expo» and it would happen that week. Never happened. I was already employed by that time and this was going to be my 2^nd job. But really upset and disappointed at the lies and the runaround. Felt like I was getting played like a fool.

I have always enjoyed each visit at Pulse. After I purchased my bike, I had many mechanical issues, one being where the crank arm fell off. In a state of anger, I posted a negative review on Facebook, and Mike, the owner, contacted me. Not only did he contact me via Facebook, but he took time out of his day to go to the store, talk with the employees who have always assisted me with pleasure, to discuss the issue. It turned out that I was going to drop off the bike for another issue, and there, I spoke with Mike, and we came to a prompt resolution to re-​build the bike, top down, and make sure there wouldn’t be any further issue. In less than a week, I had the bike back, with new tape, ready to go. Ever since then, I had no issues with the bike, and go back regularly for new products, or snacks. Thank you to Mike and the crew for always assisting me and being very informative to a beginner cyclist and always ensuring that my bike will be prepared for the road.

My new go-​to cycling store. Being a Noob to cycling, Daniel was very friendly and answered all my questions. Rest of the Staff was very professional. Got fitted for my road bike and love it. Will definitely be coming here for all my cycling needs. Thanks Pulse!

Just one of those times where a wrong was made right. These guys deserve a chance when you purchase your bike. Open communication is the key. They will make you happy.

I was interested in getting Altras and these guys were the only dealer listed that was nearby my home. Tried to buy shoes at about 3:15 today, the door said they closed at 4. They already had the gates up, but the door was unlocked, I walked in and asked if they were open. They said they were closed. I guess I’m not getting shoes today. boom.

I spent $ 300 total in parts in 2 separate visits, waited 2wks for a brake system to come in, and both times I asked if I should leave my bike at the shop and twice I was told «it’s up to me». So after 2wks, they called me to tell me my part came in, and I asked them when I could get it installed and they said they won’t make an appt without the bike in their shop and they’re 10 days out on work. You mean the one I asked you twice if I should leave? Maybe you could’ve/ should’ve told me I NEEDED to leave the bike to get it on the service schedule. There are too many other shops looking for work to waste my time waiting on these guys. Sucks because I’m literally minutes away.

Just an update on my experiences at Pulse. I still experience great service. I had my Jamis mountain bike serviced by there techs and they hooked it up. The bike is about 8 years old and I expressed my concern that I didn’t want to put that much money into it. The techs prioritized the repairs based on my concerns and I ended up with my mountain bike running good as new at a decent repair cost. Had my Felt F5 serviced here as well several times and it also runs like new.
I did have one bad sales experience here where the sales rep was nothing but a D!*x to my wife but management quickly resolved the issue (won’t go into details). Minus 1 Unilocal rating star cause of this and if he’s working when I go in simply don’t buy anything and will go back later. 4 Unilocal stars cause service techs are awesome.

My bf got his road bike here and he loves it. I went with him several times as he was bike shopping and the guys there are super nice and knowledgeable.

I do business with a number of high-​end bike shops in San Diego County, but I ultimately decided to buy my road bike from Pulse. After years of riding a steel framed LeMond, I decided that it was time to upgrade to carbon fiber.
Pulse had an amazing deal on a Felt S4 Carbon fiber road bike (drivetrain: Shimano Ultegra SL), which was on par with bikes I was looking at from competing manufacturers (e.g., Bianchi, Specialized, etc) at other bike shops. The kicker is that Pulse was selling the Felt S4 for 60% of the cost of similarly-​classed carbon fiber bikes.
The only problem was that I had recently upgraded my LeMond with a plethora of new accessories (carbon fiber handlebars, Ritchey WCS 4-​axis stem, Ultergra Brakes, Chris King «NoThreadset» headset, carbon fiber forks, etc.). Mike, the owner of Pulse, agreed to take some of the generic /​non carbon fiber parts (brakes, stem, handlebars & headset) which were stock on the Felt S4, and swap them out with the newer carbon fiber /​higher quality parts I had just purchased for my LeMond. This «swap» of parts between the two bikes required a decent amount of work because the Pulse mechanic had to remove parts from both the LeMond (Carbon fiber handlebars, stem, headset, brakes, etc). & the new Felt, swap & then re-​install them on both bikes. Mike and his team were willing to do this for about $ 50, which is very inexpensive considering the time they spent working on both bikes.
In parallel to buying the Felt, I also purchased an upgraded Easton wheel package, for which Mike was willing to price match.
In summary, this bike shop is awesome. The purchase process @ Pulse was informative & low key; I was able to demo a bunch of bikes before deciding on the Felt. The staff, from the owner, to the sales team & the mechanic, were efficient, courteous and professional.
Note: I made this purchase from Pulse several years ago, but I had such a great experience that I felt compelled to write about it.

Originally had an incident where I was overcharged, but it turns out it was just a miscommunication. Daniel, the assistant manager was very apologetic and wanted to make sure I was happy. Great customer service here, especially from Daniel. He makes sure you’re happy with your experience at Pulese.

Zero stars! The owner recently wrote back claiming that I wrote this because I’m a «disgruntled former employee», that’s awesome! What a shock that someone might be disgruntled after working for this guy. Bad customer service and bully tactics add up to bad business. Performance Bike or ANY other bike store from now on.

Unfortunately, I did not have the best bike rental experience for my first triathlon. I noticed that Koz Events listed Pulse Endurance as one of their sponsors, so I called to inquire about the bike rental process since I did not have a road bike for the race. The gentleman on the phone was perfectly nice, but simply stated that it was «$ 50 to rent a bike and we recommend you come in 3 – 4 days before.» He neglected to say that it was $ 50 per day and had I known, I would have come the Friday before or on Saturday to pick it up. But, whatever, I can let that go. It’s just a hundred some bucks to practice and use for the Tri.
What irked me the most is that when I returned the bike I was charged an extra $ 100 dollars for «damages.» I did not fall or drop the bike once since I had rented it. However, I did participate in a triathlon in which the bike will inevitably be scuffed up and moved around. I’m not sure if anything happened during the transport in and out of the car, but I find it irritating that they rent out brand new bikes (which will be dinked and messed up, inevitably, as a result of the wear and tear that occurs in a race).
A tip-​off to me that this is a business strategy is that within 5 seconds of me bringing in the bike, the guy goes, «The taping is coming off, the wheel is out of alignment. The bike is damaged, do you just want to go ahead and buy it?» Yep, sure, here’s $ 800 bucks for the bike. The bike had no visible damage to my eye other than the taping coming off the very tip of the handle corner. This cost me an additional $ 25. The breakdown of the other costs I do not know, I was sick and annoyed and had to go to the doc so I said «sure, whatever, and paid for it.»
They sent me a nice email with the receipt letting me know if I wanted to buy the bike, they’d add the fees toward the price of the bike. I would have one month to do this. If I had the money to just buy a bike I would have done that in the first place, but I decided to rent for my first race because I do not have that kind of money. While I appreciate their email wishing me well, I do not appreciate that they rent out brand new bikes (right off the rack he told me) under the pretense that they are planning to charge you for damages and, ultimately, try to sell it to you in the end.
My friend was nice enough to pick up the bike for me in Chula Vista and had I known it was brand spanking new, I would have questioned that in the store. I’m sure it’s a great place to buy a brand, new bike for your personal use, but as far as rentals go you should go elsewhere. Just looking out for the pockets of others. A five-​day rental ended up costing me $ 240+.

As a newbie to the triathlon and biking world, I had close to zilch knowledge about biking beyond recommendations from bike-​zealous coworkers. Turns out that they all led me to the right place. Pulse was a recommendation I received from a coworker who has extensive knowledge of the San Diego area and its bike contingencies.
So on recommendation, I arrived at Pulse an hour before closing after rushing from work. The location was easy to find and had plenty of parking. I was greeted by Rudy, who asked me what I was looking to get into and gauged my minute knowledge on the subject. Man, this guy knows his stuff like the back of his hand. I literally could have spent hours there and not purchased anything and he would have still treated me the same way. He approached teaching me about biking in a very friendly, yet methodical way. He didn’t waste any time telling me things I already knew, and catered my learning experience to what I was interested in doing (mainly learning about road bikes and tri bikes and how to train.) He spent hours with me, even after they had locked up the shop, teaching me patiently about all the components of getting started on triathlon biking. He focused on the basics and got into the weeds when I requested more information. He was neither overbearing nor forceful in trying to sell me on anything and NEVER made me feel rushed or pressured to make a purchase.
I learned more from him than I could have from taking a class and I appreciate how much knowledge he could impart on me without having any expectations from my wallet. It was really a great experience.
I ended up purchasing a Specialized Venge Comp aero rode bike, ordered it, received it in the time he had allotted, and was called in to get a fitting. The fitting was also just as wonderful as my first experience. I was able to purchase the items that I needed to get started while not overdoing it.
He taught me how to use the bike effectively, what to watch out for and what to do and not do. His advice proved to be extremely valuable. I knew everything I needed to and more to get started. The very next day I was able to do a 25 mile bike ride and took all of his training advice to heart. My first bike ride was amazing, and because of all of his tips, I was able to clip in and bike without falling once, able to hook my bike into my truck bed harness, and put the tire back in after wards, I even was able to teach my biking friends a couple of things.
I will definitely recommend this shop to all of my friends and I will be returning to this shop to purchase more items and get advice as I continue to learn and train.
I couldn’t have been able train so quickly and effectively if it had not been for the openness and willingness to impart knowledge and training that Rudy provided me. Take this advice seriously if you are looking to get hooked on biking, like I was. it can only be beneficial to your training. Good luck!

Rudy was really awesome and knowledgeable. He wasn’t there just to try and sell me the highest priced bike there, but genuinely wanted to make sure I got the best deal possible for what I needed it for, on top of that, you could tell that he genuinely loved cycling, because he didn’t come off as just trying to sell me merchandise, he loved just chatting about it as well.

This is THE best bike shop in the County. I have been going to this shop since they opened and always they deliver. I have purchased 5 bicycles there for me and my family and each time they want to get it right for me, not push a certain bike on me. In addition, the staff there is extremely experienced in the multi-​sport world yet never have that arrogance that many other shops have. Keep up the good work!!!

A high-​end bike shop in the Southbay… it was absolutely necessary. Go see Mike, Liam and the gang for all you running, biking and swimming needs. Be sure to check out the Specialized bike selection and the K-​Swiss running shoes.

I was really craving to go mountain biking a couple weekends ago, but I don’t have a bike for myself and a buddy. So I called around to all the bike stores in SD and surprisingly no one rented bikes, except for these guys they came in real clutch, I was about to give up.
I had heard there are some sick mountain biking trails in Bonita, so I called the guys at pulse and they told me there are trails right behind their shop. and they will give me directions around all the trails.
So me and my buddy drive down to Chula Vista /​Bonita, to rent the bikes. As soon as we entered the store they started taking care of us right away, they gave us the bikes and helmets at no extra charge, gave us directions to the trails and we where on our way! (pretty damn quick and painless)
2 hours, a couple falls, and a buncha miles into the ride I get a flat on my back tire. …bummer. I find out on the gps we are pretty close to the store so I call them up and jokingly ask them if they have trail side service… and they don’t :(. (note to mike maybe you should start offering trail side service) So I rode my buddies bike back to the shop and they gave me a FREE new tire and a little air canister to fill the tire with and another FREE tube in case i pop another tire, I was expecting them to sell me a patch kit which are annoying as hell but no they really pulled thru.
but wait its not over
Since I rented the bikes at 12pm and I paid for the whole day, they let me keep the bikes till the next day so I can go riding again. The next day came and I was only able to head out biking around 11AM so I figured I would have less than an hour to ride. I called mike and he told me to bring the bikes back whenever I want as long as its before they close!!!
They deserve 10 stars and I will copy and past this review all over the web so everyone knows where to go for all their biking needs!!!
