Foxcroft Farm

Rode here as a child. Was threatened to stand in the corner if I couldn’t steer the horse correctly. This was during my first lesson, when I was 8 years old. Do not recommend. They do not care too much for proper instruction but rather the income.

Absolute filth. I totally regret bringing my daughter to camp here. She mostly just stood around in their run down disgusting stable waiting to ride or groom the horse. It is 5 – 6 kids to a horse and barely any riding going on. The stable is dirty, disgusting, and in deplorable conditions. Having been to several stables since, I can tell you this is not the norm. I have since found a better, more reputable stable for my daughter to get riding lessons. Don’t go to Foxcroft… they have a terrible reputation among other riders and stables.

Please remove the comments made by Aryn j, as I did not write them & do not have children. I did however board n rent at fox croft, staff is very knowledgeable, horses are happy, footing is good. And Bobby really cares for what he does ! Thanks

We waited to find a horseback riding camp/​lessons for a place that would not only teach our daughter the fun and joy of riding but more importantly how to take care of a horse! Foxcroft Farm is doing just that. Our 8 yr old daughter is learning about horse riding/​grooming/​& feeding. She is also learning how a «real» farm operates. The staff is great & she looks forward to going despite the flies, cobwebs & dust.

Cool facility., one of the guys could be awesome if he stopped making sexual passes at all the ladies.. Have not heard any kids complain. Facility is dirty and needs a makeover. Horses that give lessons are over worked and the camp kids are made to work all day, flier says arts and crafts my child did none.. Just ride 1 hour and worked .

At first we were very excited about my daughters lessons with Bobby. My first impressions were that the place was probably very nice at one time. Looks like they are struggling a bit. I didn’t hold that against them. My daughters first lesson went well at first. Bobby taught her and 3 others how to hold the reigns and make the horses move. Afterwards though, he smacked one of the horses for trying to nip at him. I get it, but right after this we took the horses to hose them down. One of his students of several months was frustrated with her horse she was bathing so she was threatening her to smack her with the rope. I took the rope from her and got the horse to go where she was wanting her to go.
Then on another occasion, one of the teen girls taught the lesson with only my daughter because Bobby was out of town. My daughter rode the same horse as before and as soon as they got in the arena the horse was acting up. Not like previous times. The teen girl was frustrated with the horse and tried whipping the horse, with my daughter on its back, she kicked dirt at the horse, with my daughter on its back and finally the horse took off away from her and jumped over a hurdle with my daughter on its back and she went flying over its head. After the rest of the session this teen proceeded to tell me she hates this horse and squeezed her nails into the horses nostrils then as the horse passed her she took a big chunk of hair out of the horses tail. It seemed like the horse has been mistreated by this girl before and knew it as soon as she got in the arena.
It looks to me that not only is Bobby teaching them how to ride but also how to be abusive to the animals. It’s not the environment I want my child in. Needless to say we WONT be going back. I’m going to find a place that loves their horses.

I see a mixed bag here. I took my daughter for lessons, and the owner basically allows the advanced girls to teach the kids instead of himself. This means the level of teaching competence varies. It is at it’s lowest when a few of the girls get to ride and only 1 or 2 are in the ring helping.
I was very disappointed in the fact my daughter did not receive any one-​on-​one time with any instructor (Bobby or girls) the whole time she was there. She struggled with how to get her horse to trot, and occasionally got an offhand remark on how to do something shouted from across the ring. She became frustrated. When I have to get in the ring and try to help her (I rode 20 years ago… clueless how to teach it) I question why I am PAYING someone for LESSONS. I could have easily taken her to a corral and rented a horse.
The facility was once very nice. You can tell. Now it is filthy. The stables are dank, dark, and covered in all manner of cobwebs. Plywood has been nailed and plastered over many repairs and looks run-​down. There does appear to be a clique there of parents and preteen girls that get preferential treatment and feel entitled. I don’t know if they are patrons, or just family. Read the reviews carefully.
You DO have to pay for drinking water.

Used a livingsocial deal for this. The place was slightly hard to find, but doable and we didn’t get lost, just had to keep our eyes out. Be prepared to drive by a lot of cow farms and doo aromas though. Bring hand sanitizer and shoes that can get dirty though.
Bobby wasn’t the most polite person, but it wasn’t a big deal or anything. He is a farm owner, after all, and customer service isn’t his top priority. Scanning other Unilocal reviews, I’m rethinking things that I didn’t take note of previously. The younger girls did do more of the work, but I feel that that’s part of their horse training. Bobby did note how he practically raised the girls since they’ve been with his farm since early ages.
The instruction was good. He showed us how to board the horse, order the horse, and tips for easier riding and trotting. It wasn’t 100% personal attention but that’s cool, it’s not like riding a horse is all that hard. There were both advanced and beginner riders in the ring, but if there’s enough space for me to do my horse riding business, I didn’t mind. An experienced rider did fall off a horse and a horse ran off though.
My sister and I were goofing off a lot while prepping the horses with the saddles and taking a ton of pictures and Bobby had no problem with that, even though I’m sure he had a schedule to run. We actually got extra instruction time since he had extra free time, so that was really nice.
Overall I had a good experience and would go horse riding again.

I visited Foxcroft Farms on a Living Social voucher. I loved it. Bobby (the man in charge) was very friendly, knowledgable, laid back, and helpful.
It is true that there is only one ring. The assistants whom help Bobby are the advanced riders he trains (girls about ¹⁵⁄₁₆ years of age) which was somewhat of a turnoff because their attitude reflects their age. It is off a dirty road (Remington), so finding the location was difficult.
All in all, (because of Bobby’s great customer service) I would return.

Sleazy.
The man who runs the place smells of booze and ogles the young girls. The beginner and advanced classes happen at the same time in the same ring and he is much too preoccupied with the older jumpers than the newbies. I went for four lessons and in that time there was a rider bucked off a horse, a runaway, and a horse who got down on the ground and scrubbed his rider off. In all cases it was the girls who saw the accidents first and had to tear Billy or Bobby or whatever his name is away from his conversations in the middle of the ring to alert him to what he should have been keeping an eye out for in the first place. He’s just not paying attention. Also, it’s the underage «assistants» who will teach you to ride, not Bobby. So why are you paying Bobby? Pay your money to the little girls who are teaching you how to put your saddle on and how to start and stop.
Another annoyance is that if you follow google maps it will tell you turn onto a nonexistent street. This is a known problem to Foxcroft and yet they will not do anything as simple as put up a sign that says «Foxcroft: Turn on Merrill».
Also be prepared to pay for water — IF they have any that week — and use a porta potty because there are NO facilities on-​site.

My daughter went to Foxcroft Farms for camp a few years ago when she was 6. She loved it. She talked about the experience all year long. She begged to go back the following summer. She went for a whole month! She didn’t want to leave! What I love most about the camp is that it is not structured the entire day. The kids learn how to completely take care of a horse-​from tacking the horse to making their food to giving them a bath. They really learn what it takes to be a horse owner. The kids take care of the horses in the morning and ride for at least an hour during the day. Then kids have water balloon fights, play hide and seek, and just get to be kids until the end of the day. If the weather is mild the kids get to ride the horses a second time in the afternoon. My daughter is filthy from head to toe when I pick her up at the end of the day and she loves it. At the end of last summer she really wanted to start taking lessons. She takes weekly lessons there now. The trainer is very laid back and not in your face. If he sees the rider doing something wrong he will correct them, but doesn’t yell at the rider the whole time. My daughter is very comfortable around him. She has participated in a few competitions and has even won several ribbons. She is 8! He must be doing something right!

I went here for a horseback riding lesson, that I got on Groupon. It was a fun experience, because I Iike to be around horses. It was not much of a lesson, it was kind of a learn as you go thing. The trainer/​owner didn’t give much attention, rather his young students gave the lesson. So I’d like to go somewhere I am given more attention and complete instructions by someone with a lot of experience. I’ll try horseback riding again for sure tho.
