I haven’t physically dined at the West Indies Restaurant & Bakery, but I have eaten their food [jerk chicken/cabbage/rice-beans & plantain] quite a few times at the cultural festivals held in Washington Park. When I decide to eat from a food vendor at a summer time event, the food must be «visually pleasing» to my eye and most of all, the food must be handled in such a way that doesn’t tick-turn me off, meaning, «covered» and not all out in the open for the annoying flies to partake in. ALSO, don’t be handling money and then handling my food w/out washing yo hands. I always stand back and observe, before I make my decision on where to eat: D To say the least, the West Indies Bakery gets a B+.

When a friend and I ventured down in search of jerk chicken, we got chicken at Tropic Island Chicken and the hard dough bread they served to sop up all the goodness that your fork couldn’t handle was from here. The delivery guy happened to stop in while we were at TIC and gave us a card for the bakery, so after we were stuffed full of jerkiness, we headed down the street to get some of this fine bread! The woman working was super nice and flattered that we had come in search of her bread. The hard dough bread makes THE best pb&js.
