Tree House BDVM Mac Lean Spay/Neuter Clinic

I brought both of my cats here (one male, one female — on separate days) for neuter & spay services. I emailed my request in over the weekend and promptly received an auto email stating the days and times they are open (Tues through Sat I think) and I would receive a response once they opened. Jennifer emailed me back quickly on Tuesday and got my cats scheduled.
Lucky for me I happened to schedule in February which is Spay & Neuter month, and the state of Illinois was offering $ 40 rebates on both spay & neuter. Their regular price for a spay is $ 50 and the regular price for a neuter is $ 75, so I only paid $ 45! Their regular pricing is still much less than a veterinarian’s which is upwards of $ 250+ per cat! AND the Clinic filed the rebates so I didn’t have to deal with any rebate forms.
Arrive EARLY, I went late the first time and waited at least 20 minutes til my turn to drop my cat off. Remember people love to talk about their cats! So even if there isn’t a long line, be prepared to wait. There is a small loading zone in front, but both times I went it was full, but there is typically plenty of empty & free street parking across the street.
It’s required to have your cat vaccinated prior to getting spayed/​neutered. This Clinic will do this for you (for a nominal fee of course) but they will do it on the same day! Unlike Banfield who said that they highly recommended getting the 2 rounds of shots about 3 weeks before the surgery in case there were side effects. Yeah right, so I can pay for three office visits AND the operations? NO thanks Banfield (see my upcoming 1 star review of Banfield…)
I digress. Anyways, the staff there is incredibly friendly. Doug (I think is his name) was there both times at the front desk taking everyone’s forms, and he was so nice, friendly and accomodating. I could tell he really cares about all the cats that come through.
Jennifer is also great! She’s there at the end of the day when you go to pick up your cat. She is very thorough and will go through everything with you and answer any questions. She tells you how the surgery went and if your cat is doing well, if they ate or not, etc. I saw her spend about 15 minutes showing a girl how to care for her cat that didn’t take the surgery very well. For female cats — they provide pain medication for included in the price of the spay. They will even throw in some wet food if you say you don’t have any. They don’t give anything for male cats, since they bounce right back. Oh and they will clip their claws for free as well!
I’m giving 4 and not 5 stars because… remember this is a CLINIC which means people bring in stray/​feral cats. These cats are dirty, they have fleas, and they are sick, who knows what they’ve been in. The first cat I brought in started sneezing 3 – 4 days after we brought him home, we realized some other cat must have gotten him sick. He had never sneezed until then. He was very sneezy and had watery eyes. He got over the cold, then passed it onto our female cat who just returned from surgery. It took her a LONG time to get over the cold since her immune system was already low. ALSO, on the 2^nd visit we had for our female cat, Jennifer called saying another cat that came in had fleas, and asked if they could treat my cat for free. It was great for them to offer it free of charge and to obtain my permission ahead of time. But yeah, cats are dirty, so beware of your cat getting sick when they get home…
In all, I had 2 very pleasant experiences here. I highly recommend them for a low cost way to spay & neuter your cat. Both of my cats are now much more friendlier than docile than they were before the operations. While I wish I hadn’t waited so long, I am glad I was able to take advantage of the rebate program. But their pricing is so low that I would have gotten them done here even without the rebate.

I think it’s awesome that the clinic offers low cost spay/​neuter services for people who can’t afford the $ 300+ services their vets offer. They are doing the community a real service.
However, we took our cat in to get neutered, and came back with a limp. He hid for 3 days, would hardly eat, and now even though he’s not hiding anymore, he won’t let us touch him. He’s really flinchy and skittish now. I managed to get a hold of him today to take a look at his limpy leg, and discovered that at least 4 – 5 of his nails were cut too short. They are red and inflamed, and one is cracked in half and appears to be causing him pain/​discomfort. So, yay for cheap services, nay for spectacular treatment.

The spay/​neuter clinic was wonderful. They do a spay or neuter for only $ 50, and they offer other vaccinations and microchipping which is very helpful. They were flexible with appointments, and very friendly on the phone.
I took my new persian Stanley there first and I dropped him off and picked him up on the same day and they answered all my questions about the surgery. When we took him home he acted as if he never even left. Even gobbled down all his food.
When it came time to get my baby girl Zelda spayed (we had procrastinated for a while) I was really worried because she was our first baby, but she was almost a year and we could not stand the yowling. I asked some more questions and they assured me they would take great care of my kitty. I told she was a bit feisty and they said told me not to worry.
When it came time to pick her up I was at the door waiting. The nice polish lady explained everything about the medications and how the surgery went (very well, though she was in heat– no extra charge!) Her nails were trimmed for me and they sent me home with a few doses of painkiller, also no charge. She was mopey for a few days but eating and drinking okay.
About a week later she had developed a bump on the site of the incision and I freaked out and called them right away. I got no answer but I left a message and waited for a response. I didn’t get one for a few days and I was starting to get a little mad but then I got an email from Alan and he said they tried to call all my numbers and never got an answer. We have really bad reception so that makes sense. He explained the bump was normal and as long as it looked healthy, and wasn’t weeping or pussing it was fine. He told me to keep an eye on it and bring her in if it got worse.
A few months later everything healed nicely and the bump went away. It was so nice of him to send me an email when he couldn’t reach us, and I appreciated it so much. I think he was the same guy that was there when we were checked in and he is so nice and friendly, I was relieved to know I was leaving my kitties with super nice people.
If I ever get another kitty, they are getting fixed here and I will recommend them to everyone I know.
