The Wit – A DoubleTree By Hilton

Enjoyed our stay however it is very had to find because of traffic, no real obvious sign on the corner and construction. We drove 40 extra minutes because we couldn’t find it. They were somewhat sympathetic but not really. We paid 80 bucks for a few glasses of wine (and crappy service) rooftop, elevators were slow and then when I paid our room tab — I was shocked for valet. It was just a lot! The hotel was fairly clean but I would have been happy to stay outside the city and have it be calm and quiet and a lot cheaper.

This place unfortunately lost its luster for us this past visit. Our first time there was the night after our wedding (Nov 2012.) Not only was the service impeccable, we must’ve been upgraded to a suite because our room was unbelievable. We were in Chicago for Memorial Day weekend and were excited to stay there again. There were several reasons we left disappointed:
— miscommunication between reception and rooftop bar staff. When we checked in (approx 7:30pm on a Saturday) we were told we could access the rooftop bar via the elevator from our floor (19) anytime before 9pm. We had dinner reservations at 8:45pm so we’re excited to grab a pre-​dinner. However, what they told us wasn’t true, i.e. In order to get to the rooftop bar we had to come back down to the lobby, go to get a wristband, get inline for an elevator esp for the club, and go up that way. Seems like not a huge deal, but see the next point to see why it was…
— the elevators are excruciatingly slow. We waited at least 5 minutes to get an elevator up to our room, and there was a crowd of people behind us. I’m assuming part of the reason for this is that 1 bank was held for club-​goers and another was roped off by a maintenance guy. By the time we actually got up to the bar — and waited in line to be served — we only had time to order/​drink a bottled beer before heading to dinner.
— «The Roof» was unimpressive. It’s not open air, so we’re shocked it was ranked «one of the top 3 rooftop bars in the country.» There are many better in Las Vegas and LA. Additionally, there was no place to sit or even to really stand so we just quickly downed our beers and got out of there.
— the AC in the room won’t allow you to set it below 69; it was so warm (felt much warmer than 69) our first night we couldn’t sleep. It was so late we didn’t want to call for an engineer.
— finally, and what rubbed us the wrong way most, was the reception staff’s reluctance to help refrigerate leftovers to take home. We went to Mastro’s and spent approx $ 250 in dinner (we treat ourselves once a year, this time to celebrate a new job) and when we got back that evening, asked the 2 front desk staff if there was a corporate fridge that we could store our leftovers in (to take home w us.) the woman rudely quipped «no. You can remove all your mini bar items but will be automatically charged because they’re on a sensor.» Fortunately, her colleague corrected her and said «if you go ahead a remove the items to store your food, just let the front desk know when you check out and they’ll refund the charges.» Great, no problem. We unloaded our goodies into our room’s mini-​fridge.
The on Monday, we decided we wanted to do brunch up north before heading out of town. I called down to see if they could house our leftovers for a couple hours so we could pick up on our way out. She first said no, and when I pushed/​asked if she could just throw in q staff fridge, she said they’d make an exception. So, we’re already feeling annoyed that this has become such an issue 2 times. Oh, but wait. When we get to the front desk to check out, the rep said «we don’t have anyplace to put it.» She called over her manager who said «sorry, we don’t store outside food.» we explained that we’d called down and a front desk staff had told us it was okay. She looked around as if to accuse someone, then gave us a dirty look, and said she’d try to figure something out. Wtf?! I’ve never had a hotel pose such a problem re: housing leftovers before — seriously, a couple hours? And you have w restaurant connected to the hotel with ample fridge space? Oh, and we’re Hilton Gold members so you’d think they’d be accommodating. Horrible customer service. Not only did this leave w bad taste in our mouths, but she managed to make us feel really uncomfortable.
Unfortunately now instead of thinking about the amazing place we stayed the night after our wedding, we will think of this negative experience.

Overall it’s a nice place right down town so there is a great deal surrounding it. The hotel is clean. Although went down to the front desk to ask for towels and instead of just providing them they stated someone would bring them… Well 30 minutes later I was still waiting for a towel. Apparently there were a few calls before me. Even though I went down stairs myself and could have just been handed additional towels and save them the trip. Tiles were dingy and valet was slow. Incredibly slow.

I’m still giving it 5 stars! The warm cookies upon check in and check out were a really nice touch. Thursday night and Friday nights being under the rooftop bar were noisy. Would be a great place to go with the girls for a bumpin night! I slept through it fine, because I’m a light sleeper I brought earplugs. I imagine the lower the level your room is, the more street /​train noise you hear and the higher up is more club noise?

We had stayed in The Paramount Suite which is their best suite. It had spectacular views of the city.
The room was big. It took up the entire side of the building. The staff was very nice. They give you fresh baked cookies at the front desk. They also gave us them when we left. They gave my 7 year old son a small stuffed animal which was very nice. The bathrooms where nice and clean. The room was spotless. The bedroom was clean with a beautiful view that was lit up at night. It was peaceful to just sit looking out the window. We ate at the Tavern on State and Lake (in the hotel). Food was good. But there seems to be a lot of options within walking distance. Check out is at 12:00 which is nice so you can drink your coffee and enjoy the view without a rush. The club upstairs is only open on weekends but during the week it’s a cozy little lounge with a great menu and fireplace. All in all it was a wonderful experience. I would definitely take my family there again. Close to everything. Valet parking is a nice feature.

I have no complaints on my stay here. We were doing a staycation and everything was perfect. Don’t forget your chocolate chip cookie when you check in! This is a Double Tree hotel :). I have been to the Wit several times, but never to stay. Our room was a decent size, beds were very comfortable, and the view was of Millennium Park.
One thing I definitely noticed was the bird sounds in the hallway. Some people would find them annoying, but I found them quite charming. :) You get used to them after awhile.
I love that Roof at Wit is right upstairs. We went for cocktails one night and had a great time. I would definitely recommend the Wit to tourists or visitors. Great for a romantic staycation or just time with the girls! Also it’s in the heart of downtown. Tons of shopping and theater district is right near by.

Stayed at the wit from 2÷25−2÷28. I was in town for a conference Thursday and Friday and my wife met up with me Friday evening. We stayed in a spa King room with a soaker tub on the 20^th floor with a great river view. The soaker tub was great for some relaxing time in the room and view was fantastic. The bed was very comfortable– my only complaint was the extra couch and table by the window made the room feel a little cramped even though it was a very good size.
We went to the rooftop on Thursday night and had a couple drinks– I would go back again.
The hotels location is great for pretty much anything you want to do in Chicago and we will definitely stay again.
The breakfast vouch for Hilton golds/​diamonds is a great value as breakfast at state and lake is fantastic.

Phenomenal service and amenities at this hotel. I was very impressed with the service and the décor. I’ll definitely be back!

One of my all time favorite Chicago hotels. Amazing breakfast at State and Lake Tavern. Impeccable service l. And of course warm doubletree cookies.

Bouncers have crazy egos, and will get on your case for everything.
The DJ tonight was playing bedtime trance. No one was dancing. People were literally passing out due to the music by 1:30 am.
With so many options. This should be a last resort.

I had expectations of a beautiful downtown hotel overlooking the river or lake Michigan.
Our suite did have a great view of the Chicago River and the hustle and bustle of the city around it. We were told when we checked in that they would bring bottled water to our room which never happened. The TV in the suite had several channels that had no sound which was aggravating. The curtains on the huge windows were messy and cheap looking, there were no robes in the closets? When we walked into the bar on the lobby level (which was 4pm when it opened) to take a look at it, I noticed the entrance looked like it had not been vacuumed in awhile. Although it was overall visually beautiful, when we looked closer, things could have been better. the location was perfect for going to the Oriental theatre!

I’ve stayed at my share of Double Trees and this has by far been my favorite! Before checking in, we had the doors opened for us. Of course, after checking in, we were given our bottled water and those warm, delicious chocolate chip cookies.
I absolutely loved the sink and shower in the bathroom. The water flowed out of the sink ever so gently, it was a nice surprise while washing my hands! The removable shower head was also another added bonus.
The décor in the room is a bit difficult to describe. Definitely modern inspired, with accents of green and red. The view from the room was incredible! We had a great view of the surrounding buildings as well as the bay in the distance.
This DoubleTree is in prime location, near the river, shopping and plenty of restaurants. My stay here was during the Chicago Marathon. This hotel handled the extra traffic perfectly. I will definitely stay here during my next visit to Chicago!

Christian at concierge totally made our trip!!! It’s our first time in Chicago and he went above and beyond the customer service standard! We were so happy he was beyond helpful and generous!!! Thank you Christian for putting a cherry on top of our first Chicago experience. You are THE BOMB.

By far one of the best hotels that I have stayed in a while. It was clean, the service was great, and even though it was New Years Eve, the halls stayed quiet and I got a restful nights sleep. I will return soon.

Our family loves coming here at least once a year. The staff is willing to lend a hand. I totally recommend this hotel.

What use to be my favorite hotel for years has deteriorated to average. Maybe it’s the rooftop club that cause wear and tear on this hotel, but it’s not the same.
CHECK-​IN: At check-​in, they told us they are giving us a nice lake view, but forgot to mention it was a handicap room. If given the choice, I would have sacrificed the partial lake view. After a long trip to get there, we decided to deal with it. It was just aggravating seeing the hotel was empty for the holidays. She also asked us to sign a paper stating we would not be making noise in the hallway after 10 PM. That was a first for me in my travels. That should have been my first red flag. As usual, they did give us two warm and gooey chocolate chip cookies.
ROOM: Nice and clean enough. No robes, which is a big bummer for me. After a long trip in, I wanted a hot shower and only got a lukewarm one. The next day I was able to take a hot shower, so I know it’s possible. If the hotel were at capacity, I would be more understanding.
SERVICE: Although, we did get a handicap room, the service was great. Everyone at the check-​in desk had a big smile on their face and very helpful. The Bellmen were very attentive and eager to help us catch a cab when needed.
Overall, service is good, but the hotel is getting a little run down. It has an upscale frat house kind of feel. Maybe I am getting older, but I think I need to find a new «go to» hotel in Chicago.

I recently stayed at The Wit Hotel on a business trip to Chicago and I couldn’t have been more pleased with the hotel and all of its amenities and staff. It’s located in a prime area of downtown Chicago so it’s very easy to get around. Their rooms are ultra comfortable and luxurious (without the hefty luxurious price tag), the Rooftop bar with a view of the city is something to definitely go and see and their restaurant is top notch.
Everyone was super accommodating and friendly. It’s a given… The Wit will be my future go-​to hotel the next time I’m in Chicago for sure.

Absolute garbage customer service. Spend your money elsewhere.
The room is modern with excellent furnishings and bathroom fixtures. However the heat did not work. The thermostat did not adjust. Called twice before the engineer came up. When I called the second time the person told me he was busy running around «doing something». I stated this was not acceptable and he came. He went through a process of changing settings from autumn to winter. It still didn’t work. After 90 minutes we called again. This time it was fixed. Once the room became too hot I adjusted the settings and it stopped working. We gave up and asked for a blanket which was supplied.
In the morning we informed the front desk clerk. This lady told us the heating system was set to run on motion sensors. I told her we had moved enough for this not to be an issue. We asked for a manager. We were informed the manager would be in at 6:30. When we went back at 6:30 another agent said 7. I explained that we had been told 6:30. She said well actually anytime between 6:30 and 7.
I did eventually speak to the manager. She agreed to take 50% off the bill. Then she proceeded to lecture me about being abusive to her staff because I called one an idiot for not giving me the correct arrival time for the manager. Considering that I made multiple calm efforts to get my issue resolved I thought the manager was highly inappropriate. Her approach explains why employees here think they can be lazy, indolent and provide poor service.

This is my go-​to hotel when I visit Chicago. It is SO close to CTA– I get on the blue line from O’Hare and make my way to Clark station for $ 5 as opposed to a 60+ minute/​$ 50 cab ride.
Check-​in: Always quick and a pleasure. Staff are incredibly professional and nice. I have never had issues.
Rooms: Standard or spa rooms (standard rooms with tubs) can be fairly small. I like to request rooms at the end of the hall for nice views (from the room as well as the bathroom!) If you can, get a suite because the panoramic view of the city is just incredible. Once, I had a two-​room suite with 270-​degree view of Chicago. It was absolutely incredible. Comfortable bed, nice turndown service, clean rooms, good bath products. I have no complaints.
Amenities: Gym is on the smaller side, but honestly, leave the treadmills and hit the streets to millennium park just a few blocks away. ROOF, obviously, is an incredible bar and deserves its own raving reviews.
Check-​out: Seamless. Quick and painless. Have an HH account? You’ll have your bill in your e-​mail before you leave.

AWESOME hotel! Right in the heart of the city, this hotel is in the perfect location for shopping, dining, and tourist activities. I live in the suburbs and stayed at this hotel after a Blackhawks game. This hotel is just a couple blocks from the United Center Express bus stop, and it was so easy to maneuver back and forth! The CTA «L» station was right next to the hotel and there is a huge Walgreens a block away. You really can’t beat this location!
Additionally, the staff was very friendly. The room was very spacious for a city hotel and I had a beautiful view of the river! The valet attendants were very nice and personable too. Highly recommend this hotel!

Back in the late summer, I started researching hotel suites downtown for my birthday weekend.. The Wit seemed like an ideal choice due to its reasonable prices for suites, central location, and modern rooms. A couple weeks after booking I comprehended the fact that the hotel is literally right next to the CTA train tracks, and was concerned that the trains might keep me up all night. Instead of canceling, I just decided to hope for the best.
A day before my stay, I received an email to pre check in. This allowed me the opportunity to request more towels and pillows for the room. I also noticed that it looked like my room had been upgraded from the luxury spa suite, to the paramount suite. For some reason I thought this was a typo and too good to be true. When I picked up my keys at the front desk during my formal check in, I learned for sure that I had been upgraded. I was upgraded to the over 800 sq ft paramount suite on the 25^th floor (2501). I was also celebrating my 25^th birthday, so it was meant to be ;).
The room was very clean and neat. The kitchen was stocked with many items you would have at home (cups, bowls, plates, silverware, etc). After dinner, about 10 of us came back to hang out before heading out again and the suite was spacious enough to accommodate everyone.
This hotel has a well known rooftop bar, and we could hear a little bit of music when we came back from our night out around 1:30am. The volume was pretty faint, and I was tired by this time, so it did not keep me up. Also, since I was on the 25^th floor, I did not hear the train, so that was a relief.
My stay at the Wit for my birthday weekend was wonderful! The hotel staff I encountered were all very pleasant to deal with, and the room was fantastic. This is a Chicago hotel I would definitely stay at again in the future.

My partner and I stayed at theWit for two nights, and overall, it has a very nice location, but with some service and marketing issues.
We took a little city break in Chicago and used Hilton HHonors points to book a corner room in this hotel. We ended up on the 19^th floor, and there were so many windows, it was a long process to close all the curtains for the night time. It was a gorgeous view right over the Chicago Theater including a lake view. By far, the best part about this hotel is all the windows and a good location right on the Subway line.
The checkiin here, however, left a lot to be desired. We stay in a big number of Hiltons every year, and so were kind of used to the drill of how to check in and what to expect as a Diamond member. I won’t go down some long list of all the mistakes they made, suffice to say that checking was very perfunctory and there wasn’t a single thing special about theWit hotel.
Also, there’s a very popular roof bar on the top of this hotel. At night, the lobby turns into some form of pre-​club where there’s a bouncer outside and it’s very random. Because the lobby is not very large at all, it makes for a very cramped and rushed experience when I have to fight with drunk twentysomethings for room in an elevator to my hotel room. At the same time, I would check out the roof bar, because it does have some nice views.
Another thing about this hotel, they sell rooms as «spa rooms» with «spa tubs» — but that really means nothing. In our heads, we are thinking there was a Jacuzzi tub or some kind of special amenities that came with these so-​called spa rooms. But really, all it is is a tub with a sign on it that says if you want some essential oils for a «spa» experience, here are the prices they charge. What does that even mean? That’s not special and whatever marketing ploy they’re trying to do was not successful.
Overall, the room was in a good shape and there is a very good location. Service is hit or miss, but the breakfast restaurant is actually a very good restaurant that outsiders go to, it’s not just a «hotel restaurant» that you wouldn’t be caught dead in otherwise. Would recommend.

Just spent the past weekend here for my birthday and have nothing but positive feedback to share. My boyfriend and I had never been to Chicago and all of the staff was so friendly and helpful. Special shout out to TJ who works concierge/​bellman (?) .He’s extremely knowledgable and was always there to answer any questions or give us recommendations. He definitely deserves recognition for being so awesome!
Beyond that, the room was beautiful and the location of the hotel is perfect. We flew in from midway and took the el straight to state/​lake. $ 6 trip and super convenient. Also a short walk away from navy pier, millennium park, shopping, and the Willis tower.
Would definitely stay again! Thank you wit for providing me with an amazing weekend.

A high rise destination hotel. Not your typical Doubletree. (Not even close based on the other Doubletrees I’ve stayed in recently.)
With a rooftop DJ bar «The Roof» that was pretty rocking on a cold rainy Friday in October. Prices for drinks there were stiff, but it was crowded and fun.
Great rooms with great views. Good service. Very good breakfast in the lobby restaurant. I had the homemade pastrami hash with poached eggs and my partner had the green smoothie and fresh fruit, plus GF toast. Great!
Right on the North Loop tracks. Do yourself a favor and take the train or a taxi here. Valet only and $ 60+ a night if I recall the sign.

Decent and clean hotel.
Very busy during the weekends which could be loud due to the top roof bar open on the weekends.
Valet is $ 65 which is pricey. Even if you are a guest you could only get a complimentary pass to the bar upstairs and still have to line up outside.
I would probably try other hotels closer to the river next time.

TheWit is a very good hotel, centrally located in the Loop area, close to Michigan Avenue, with very big rooms and a very interesting rooftop that offers some possibilities for the evenings.
The bad points are related to the fact that some rooms overlook the railway (the actual «loop» that goes around in the center of Chicago) so they tend to be quite noisy. Special mention goes to the internet connection, maybe it’s just me, but I find that having to pay for internet in the rooms is a bit out of order in 2015. Especially when staying at expensive hotels such as this one. There are some «free areas» in the premises, but really free internet should be anywhere. This is actually the point that got me the most because in a country where you gett free hotspots almost in any restaurant/​fast food/​store not having it in a 200 euro per night hotel is quite strange.
Apart from this staff was great and generally speaking TheWit is a good hotel.
