The Whole Tooth

If I could give them 10 I would. Dr. Rageb is amazing! She is gentle and thorough and explains everything to you. I have never had to wait and Karen at the front desk is genuinely nice and extremely helpful when you have questions. They check and tell you how much services will cost and will call to let you know. They have been very helpful navigating insurance as well even though they don’t have to. Absolutely amazing experience… for going to the dentist. Lol

The Whole Tooth is great. Dr. Rewinski does a fantastic job, and her staff is very responsive and they follow up really well. Conveniently located and always friendly.

Very happy I found this place. Its located near my work and their schedule is not crazy busy, they accommodate you within the same wee or max 2 weeks. I went here for the 1^st time in October 2013 to get cleaning and a cavity filled and I scheduled for 2 visits which I was able to get done during my lunch hour and be back at work on time. Both the hygienist and dentist were very nice and professional.

Professional and pleasant experiences from reception to hygienist to doctor (Samia Rageb). They rarely run late with appts although I have a few times. Accommodating and send a number of reminders so you don’t forget your date/​time. I left Always There Dental Care to avoid the constant up sell posture and a botched cap. Modern and updated office. These ladies run a tight ship.

I was excited because the practice is close to my home and in my network.
I had a cleaning and 8 cavities filled in 2012. I wasn’t a fan of the practice (just didn’t connect with the staff) so I scheduled my cleaning today with another dentist office.
Turns out, most of my cavities were not filled properly at The Whole Tooth and I now need 4 of the cavities that were filled at The Whole Tooth refilled. Because it is on the same teeth, my insurance will not cover these fillings.
I am horrified that I could so easily trust a dentist practice, and would deter anyone from going here if possible.

I love this woman owned business. They take care of their patients and work hard to make everyone feel comfortable. Not such an easy task for a dentist office. They do it right — I will never seek another dentist again.

I just had the best apt here. I left my old place because I truly felt like they were just trying to upsell me stuff I didn’t need. But the nice lady doc at the Whole Tooth gave me a full explanation of what I should do, could do and what would be a waste of $$. Then she said she would contact my insurance first BEFORE doing any work so I would be fully aware of what I would have to pay out-​of-​pocket for. Love that. She even gave me sunglasses when she turned on the bright overhead light. So thoughtful. I am actually looking forward to getting my cavity filled. Kinda.

I chose The Whole Tooth as my first Chicago dentist experience because of the reviews here, the convenience, and it was covered by my insurance. I will definitely take care to shop around next time someone’s sticking giant needles into my gums.
Everyone — the dentist, the hygienist, the reception staff — is really friendly. Unfortunately, I felt like the dentist’s demeanor was business-​related and not out of concern for my teeth. I admit I have a lot of work to do and that my teeth are not in the best condition, but after barely checking my x-​rays, she was outlining a plan that was to include 10+ appointments, 8 fillings, a deep clean, and lots of money.
I did end up scheduling the deep clean (which was going to be split up into two separate appointments to do one side of the mouth at a time), and I will say that my gums look a lot healthier and my teeth are extremely clean. This avoided the one-​star rating. However, the hygienist caused me to never want to visit The Whole Tooth again. She could not get my gums numb. The first appointment, it took about 15 injections (and, like I said before, not a big fan of giant needles into my gums), and I could still feel it. I eventually decided that I would just stick it out even though I still had feeling in my gums just so it would be over with faster. At my second appointment, I asked if she could use a stronger dose of Novocaine so I wouldn’t have to be injected more than 10 times. She told me I was exaggerating and said she would up the dosage a bit. And yet, she had to go back and inject me again after she started because I could still feel it. I don’t think I have a built up tolerance, by any stretch. I have had fillings before and still couldn’t eat 8 hours later because my mouth was still numb. After my appointments at The Whole Tooth, I could eat almost right afterward and was in a lot of pain from the procedure.
This is not a big deal, and if it happened without the pain I wouldn’t have minded, but the hygienist could not remember to call me by the name I wrote on my forms (kept saying «Jessica,» even after reminding her I go by Jessi). I guess it just drove home the point that if they can’t even remember what name I go by, I don’t think it’s worth going back.

I feel that this is a very consumerist business bent on selling you on the next treatment. So, for example, more time has been spent talking about and pricing bite guards and trying a sensitive fluoride product than cleaning and scraping my teeth. That’s kind of off-​putting…
I wish I were as impressed as everyone else, but I just don’t understand going to a dentist and having an unsupervised hygienist do the work. And the 15 minutes she spends at most are not thorough at all. Have the back of my molars ever been cleaned? I don’t think so. Flossed? Nada.
We were recommended to Whole Tooth enthusiastically by two friends, but we’re kinda sticking with it until we have time to pursue other options.
The front desk people, however, are incredible. Really, really proficient, pleasant and on top of things. So that helps.

Who knew you could actually have a pleasant experience at the dentist? I went in with many fears, anxiety and unsureness, but Dr. Rewinski and Andrea the hygenist, made me feel at ease with their kindness and expertise. They are very thorough and gentle. For the cleaning, Andrea applied a gel to numb my gums so that I barely felt anything.
The front staff is always helpful and they send a e-​mail and mail reminder about your upcoming appointment.
I think my dentist phobia went away for the first time in my life. It feels good. Real good.

I’ve been going here for years. I like this place a lot. Very friendly staff and a clean environment.
Dr. Rewinski is always nice and takes the time to explain everything.
Both Martha and Andrea are great hygienists. They are both great about taking the time to give good tips for brushing and flossing. I like that they always listen to any questions I have and always have a good answer.
I always make my next cleaning appointment at the end of each appointment. 6 months out you can pick any day /​time you want and don’t have to try to remember later to make an appointment.

I made an emergency stop at The Whole Tooth today due to a filling that fell out last night. They were able to get me right in today and patch me back up! I’m very very grateful for this as I really couldn’t eat or drink anything without that spot becoming very uncomfortable.
One note, Dr. Kitchens has left The Whole Tooth and I saw Dr. Slanina in her place. I must say that there was not a drop off in the quality of care whatsoever and she was great.

Like several people, it had been quite some time since my last dentist appointment. I was turned off because despite having insurance, I think my last dentist hosed me buy not only charging me too much despite having insurance but also by telling me I had gum disease and trying to get me to schedule additional appointments.
Anyways, I was a little shocked with how long it took to get an appointment, but it’s within walking distance of my apartment and I wasn’t in a huge rush to go, so I booked my appointment for about a month out.
From the minute I walked in, I knew I liked the place. The receptionist was exceptionally professional but not in a stuffy, uncomfortable way. The office was modern and had everything you’d want in a dentists office in 2010. When I was seated, there were magazines (recent ones that people actually read — like People, US Weekly, some sports thing, and a few others) next to the chair so any time someone wasn’t there, I had something to occupy myself with. Not that I had to wait for a long time. The hygienist was friendly and did a thorough job in both performing her hygienist duties and in explaining what she was going to be doing. I don’t remember the name of the dentist I saw — she was younger — and she was also beyond friendly and beyond thorough. Unfortunately I have a cavity so I will be returning, but I’m not dreading it.
They were nice enough to bill my insurance and not request any payment at the time of service (turns out I didn’t owe anything anyways — this just infuriates me more about the last dentist I went to). They submitted the charges in advance for my cavity. My insurance company sent me a statement showing what I will owe (just the deductible), but the receptionist was nice enough to call to make sure I received the statement from my insurance company so I knew how much it would be. I haven’t been back for my cavity yet, but I anticipate that it will be pretty easy.
On a side note, despite it taking a while to get my appointment, the woman whose appointment was immediately after mine was there for an emergency that she called about that morning. I think the delay in getting an appointment shows not only that a lot of people like them, but they also save some time during the day for people who have emergencies. Despite never having a dental emergency, I find this to be very reassuring.

Dr. Kitchens left. The front desk is still awful. Don’t go here, everyone I know that’s been has gotten numerous incorrect bills, and one of the front desk people is so rude.
Dr. Kitchen’s was the only reason to go there in the first place.

My last dentist was in Lincoln Park and was RIDICULOUSLY expensive — even with insurance. So The Whole Tooth doesn’t seem so bad, even now that I don’t have insurance. Oh no… i fear I have jinxed myself and now will be faced with an array of dental problems. Let me take some deep breaths now…
I’m terrible with names, but the hygienist is wonderful. She is super friendly and gives helpful tips on brushing and flossing. I’ve seen a couple of different dentists here. I think the last few times it’s been Dr. Kitchens (maybe?). She actually said that my teeth were «cute». I didn’t think teeth (especially mine) could be cute. She obviously loves teeth.
Ok, so I completely agree with Jon J., it can be a total pain in the ass to make an appointment. So once you get in, go ahead and make your next 6 month appointment. And then be prepared to miss out on life in order to make that appointment. Friend’s wedding pops up? Sorry, you can’t make it, but you’ll have a winning smile. Death in the family? No, you won’t be at the funeral, but look ma, no cavities! Won a vacation to the Bahamas? Oh, too bad, but kiss that plaque goodbye. So make your appointment in advance, and in the morning for no wait.

Look no further for your new dentist. It is right under the Irving Park Brown Line and it is clean, with new equipment. The dental hygenist and Dr. Heather Kitchens were both fabulous. I will not go anywhere else.
One last thing before I get back to my day job: Incredibly accomodating hours — Weekday, Evening, and Saturday. How ’bout it?

I went to whole tooth a few times and here are some reason why it did not live to my expectation:
Pros
— Clean, Organized Office
— Easy to make appointments and have reminders
— Hygienist was nice
Cons:
— Always get the feeling they are trying to milk as much money as possible out of me. For example:
— Even if you went in for 5 minutes to get consultation for some options they will still find a way to charge it. No other dentist that I’ve gone to would do something like that cheap, especially when no operations were performed at all.
— They will charge you $ 40 for missed appointment.
— Tried to charge me $ 200 more for invisalign than another dentist
— Tried to sell me procedures that I do not need. Was able to confirm this with other dentists after trying to sell me up to $ 500 of additional procedures
— Even with an appointment, be prepared to wait up to 40 minutes when you get there
— Getting a checkup and a cleaning always required two separate visits. i.e. you need to accommodate to their schedule, not the other way around.
All in all, this dentistry has potential but they need to get out of this mindset of trying to fleece their customers. Do your job, do not oversell, and your customers will be more willing to come back.

You know when you hate to rain on a 5-​star Unilocalfest? Well this is going to be one of those times.
It’d be 2 years since I’d last been to the dentist. Longer than it should be, but not that long. It took me awhile to find a dentist after we moved here.
Dr Kitchens was super nice and sweet. I don’t think I’ve ever talked to a dentist that much before!
So what’s the problem? Trying to get me to pay for services that I don’t need that’s what. They tried to tell me I needed a crown. Well that seemed odd to me, but okay. They’re the doctor.
And then I left, with no cleaning. That just seemed like a waste of an hour and a bike ride in the hot sun for nothing! Now I have to come back to get what I initially wanted, plus get a crown?
Then they wouldn’t tell me how much anything would be and made me wait for a quote on fillings and a crown (took about 3 weeks). I cannot pay for a $ 500+ procedure right out of pocket at the moment. And since when can’t you look up my insurance and find out a price. An approximate even? All this on top of they couldn’t take my insurance without a card (which my HR dept at work says they know what to do based on the group number — no Whole Tooth!).
Something seemed fishy so I got a second opinion. And guess what? No crown, and I actually got a cleaning done!
This is a place that I thought would be a sure winner but not a match for me. Which is a shame b/​c Dr Kitchens was really nice. Downtown Dental is my new dental choice!

My aunt used to say that everybody needs to know a good lawyer, mechanic, and a doctor. Never in a million years would I guess that my dentist will be on the top of my must-​have list. Remember the agony of waiting at the waiting area and suddenly you see kids, heck even adults coming out of the room, crying like a baby. Well, not anymore!
I could not have been happier coming to the Whole Tooth. Dr. Kitchens and her staff are amongst the friendliest that I’ve known in my life. They made me feel at ease and the experience was worry-​free. I had fillings done and Dr. Kitchens was more than happy to do any touch ups or even things out for me a few days after. I have scheduled to have my crown done with them and I am confident that it will be an excellent experience. They did however double booked my appointment once and I had to rush to the dental office but they got the job done on time.
If you have any problems with your current dentist, switch to the Whole Tooth. I am sure you will never see dentists the same way again.

This place is wonderful… as wonderful as a dentist’s office could ever be. The office is super clean… sterile but cozy. They had an awesome magazine selection in the waiting area… you think this is unimportant, until you go to an office with NO magazines. I have been here multiple times and the wait is never long, we’re talking less than 10 minutes. Dr Rewinski was patient, explained everything in great detail… I mean step by step… which I love and she was GENTLE!
Best part of the whole experience is that when I laid back in the dental chair and looked up, I could see out the windows and I watched the clouds go by. So calming when they’re drilling in your teeth. And if that doesn’t work for you, they have a computer screen at eye level with changing screen savers for your viewing pleasure. Fear of dentists no more!
