The Rink at Wrigley

Pros:
— good location
— novelty of skating at Wrigley
— free hot chocolate and popcorn

Cons:
— more than 2x more expensive than other places to skate in the city
— rink was poorly maintained
Worth doing once.

This was a fun birthday activity.
Cost: $ 10 on fri/​sat/​sun for admission
and then another $ 10 for ice skate rental.
I hadn’t been ice skating in years and the last time was at the one near the bean.
This one is probably twice as big.
My ankles are really not prepared for all that so we only skated for about half an hour.
They really did pump some sweet jams tho so that was a plus.

This rink is kept in god awful conditions, big chunks of ice missing, and easy to catch the front of the skate and bust yourself down. It’s a temporary rink, true, and the skates are, well, dull to say the least. The location is nice… ish. I guess.

Skip it.
$ 100 for a family of 5 to rent skates and skate? Absolutely ridiculous. That the Cubs are trying to spin this into a public service… even more ridiculous.
There are plenty of places in the Chicago Parks that you can skate for free and rent skates for a few bucks. And you don’t have to look at the crappy landscape at the corner of Clark and Addison while you do it.

My boyfriend and I realized quickly that this place is a rip. Luckily, we went on a Monday, since we had the day off so we were not charged the ridiculous weekend price. We also were smart enough to bring our own skates and have them sharpened at Sports Authority (the one on Clark) for $ 2 a pair. I’m pretty sure they’re sharpening price was at least $ 6 a pair. It’s just sad that the rink is in the parking lot at Wrigley.
If you want a touristy skating experience that’s worth it — you’re better off at Millenium Park. You’ll actually save money!

I’m a huge fan of Rink at Wrigley we live a few blocks away and love having an ice rink in our neighborhood my kids used the rink several times a week all last year and had lots of fun. My only complaint is yes it is very expensive and there isnt a City of Chicago residents rate. Why cant the City of Chicago residents get a break on the cost? It is being partially funded and run by the Chicago Park District. If I go to a suburb and use their pools, beaches, golf courses or ice rinks I am charged a nonresident rate. Time to start charging these suburbanites a premium rate to use our City of Chicago facilities.

Not the best rink, but it was a rink next to WRIGLEY. Come on. Kinda cool, right? I mean, that’s honestly why you would go — to check out a temporary opportunity to skate next to Wrigley Field.
Yes, its a little pricey. But they played good music and it wasn’t too crowded. We honestly had fun skating round and round in a little circle and trying not to fall down. We laughed. We had some photo opps. We quickly then left to go warm up with some chili at Rockit.
Worth checking out if you’re a casual skater who doesn’t mind plopping down $ 20. And you’re a Cubs fan.
Skip it if your good enough to own your own skates.

Note to whiny complainers that suck at life and having fun:
It’s expensive because it’s TEMPORARY.
1. They have to purchase permits and lots of insurance in order to make this possible in the first place
2. It requires a lot of heavy machinery to operate, like a mini zamboni, and whatever the hell it is that they use to MAKE the ice in the rink, and skate sharpeners
3. They have to supply plenty of ice skates that are safe and in good condition
4. They have to pay the people that sit in that trailer handing out skates to all the jerks and their jerk children
5. They have to rent that trailer as well as the snack shack (which does serve hot chocolate, even though I heard some 40 something crabby ass Botox infused woman complaining, «the otha rink in Evanston has haute choc-​o-​late!» THEN STFU AND GO THERE)
6. They probably have to rent that sound system for the kick ass music they have blasting
7. Utilities are probably a bitch
I agree, the whole concept is kind of a train wreck and clearly not that profitable on their end, BUT!
For $ 10 on a Tuesday night, I got to skate around a rink listening to Iron Maiden and Thin Lizzy while laughing at all the little bastards that fell down. And surprisingly, after 15 years of NOT being on ice skates? I was not one of those bastards.

Since it is in our neighborhood — why not go? BUT it is small and expensive. That is why we went on a Tuesday night when it is half off — $ 10 total for rental and skating, vs. $ 20. Monday nights are also half off. This rink is open through the end of February.

This was actually fun to check out. Went on a Saturday night and it was not packed at all. It’s kind of disappointing that they charge a fee to use the rink when other rinks don’t. Still fun and close to home so I’ll probably be back before it closes.

«The Rink at Wrigley» is in a parking lot. It could be anywhere. If I’m paying $ 10 plus rental to skate at least put the rink inside the stadium. How lame.
Also, all the other rinks (
) have free admission.

this is by far, the worst skating rink that you could go to in the city. If you don’t go on a Monday or Tuesday (which is ½ off nights), it will cost you $ 10 for entry, and $ 10 to rent skates. If you go on said nights, it will cost you $ 5 for entry, and $ 5 for rentals.
The rink itself is small, not well kept, and really not worth your time.
