Swissôtel Chicago

So to start. We booked our room a month ahead of time, with a king size bed and a river view. Sounds nice right? Called a head the day of our trip to make sure they had a king waiting for us after our 6 hour car drive. Said no issue. Get here at 10pm and all the sudden there are no king rooms left? Along with that, they said to comp us for that issue, we were upgraded to a river view room. Which we already booked anyways. Rooms are decent view is decent. Shower soap smells like dog shampoo. I thought I was sleeping with a dog after my boyfriend took a shower. Wifi is 15 $ a day and doesn’t work. Parking is 70 $. Toilet flushes for like twenty minutes after you use it. Concierge was very helpful. Not a bad room and it’s in the center of Chicago but not worth the high price.

We were playing at the Country Shakes the Lake and we were check in here. A very nice hotel on the upper end of the pay scale but I’m sure worth every penny.
The gym was nice and the hotel is located to everything fun.

I want to make clear that my one star reflects my total experience with Swissotel Chicago.
My initial thoughts were that this was a nice hotel with friendly service and a great restaurant attached. I enjoyed my stay but that is where the pleasantries end!
Upon my departure, I was told that I would receive my bill in an e-​mail and when it never came, I called and requested a copy. There were a few charges that I wanted to move off of my corporate card and onto my check card since it was not a lot of money and was told that would not be a problem and was sent a link to provide the necessary information to do so, which I did. Upon checking my account the next day, I discovered that they had charged the entire bill to my check card which gave me a negative balance. I called immediately to get this reversed and it took almost all day to move the charge back to my corporate card which HAD NOT even been credited yet and I had to wait three more days for the credit to hit my check card and reverse my negative balance. In the mean time in those three days of not being able to purchase gas, groceries or any necessity, I was hit with overdraft fees from my bank because of what was in process when the hotel charged my card. I made several phone calls in those three days to everyone from accounting to the hotel manager and never received one call back! The hotel has made no attempt to compensate me on lost money because of THEIR mistake and the only apology I have received is from the only young lady that has tried to help me with her limited authority. This has not been a very friendly hotel for this corporate traveler and I will never stay here again and neither will anybody from my company or our clients! To have so many willing, helpful people out front, their administrative services have been deplorable!
And I hate that I have had to resort to this platform to air my grievances but this may be the only way I may ever get a response or my situation correctly resolved.

In the corner suites there is a secret 180 view of everything. You can push the curtains to the other side of the wall and slide behind the column… BEST. VIEW. EVER!!! I can sit there for hours!

I stayed at this hotel in April 2016. Several days later, I started experiencing a severe case of bed bug bites. I missed 3 days of work because of the itching, had to take prescription sleep aids so I wouldn’t unconsciously itch at night, there were more than 50 bites, and I am still recovering 2 months later. I reported the incident to the hotel, and they confirmed that bed bugs were found in my room (#409). They offered a voucher for a free stay to compensate me for the night I had stayed. I still have not received a voucher. They did not refund the money for the night I stayed to my company (it was a business trip). The hotel policy is to check all rooms for bed bugs 2 – 3 times a year, but this must have been a severe infestation. The hotel itself was very nice and seemed clean, but the cleaning staff must have ignored the signs of an infestation and I paid the price.

We had a really good experience here! My husband and friends stayed here for a work conference so we got a special conference rate, which was awesome. We might have felt differently if we had to pay the typical nightly fee. We came very early after our flight and attempted to check in. We didn’t have high hopes because it was about 6 hours before check in time. There wasn’t a room available but they held our bags and texted us when a room was ready. We wanted a king bed but a room with 2 double bed became available first so we took that. The room was very spacious! The beds were small but we knew we were getting double beds so that was expected. The beds were pretty comfortable! We lucked out and got a great view of the river. Really beautiful.
The bathroom was huge. The shower was separate from the bath tub which I feel like is pretty unusual. High quality amazing smelling products were given in the bathroom. Also there was a huge variety of products offered: soap, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, a shower cap, q tips, cotton balls, lotion. I feel like that is pretty unusual. The only issue with the bathroom was that you could see a trail of dirt on the floor from the door to the toilet. As if the floor had never been washed and this was permanent from people’s dirty shoes over the years.
Caribou coffee is offered for the coffee maker and is restocked every day. Better than the standard no name coffee typically offered in hotel rooms. It would have been nice for tea to be offered for non coffee drinkers.
The only thing that I didn’t love is that during my stay they put sizable deposits (think close to $ 1000) on my credit card for incidentals. They were removed as soon as we got back, but why not just charge when we leave? I guess this is pretty common practice at hotels these days though. Scare guests into not breaking or ruining anything.
Breakfast is not included in your stay, as is true with most expensive hotels these days. That’s fine by me. Gave me and my husband and chance to get delicious breakfast in the city. Wifi in included with your stay. You are centrally located to a lot of the tourist destinations in Chicago so it is ideal.

So when you make reservations and they are paid in advance your room should be ready when you arrive. That was not the case for my room since it was suppose to be a nice memorial weekend in the city. Now I’m probably going to have to wait till 430pm to have my room Possibly ready. It’s 3:47pm. I will follow up later and see what time I get access to that room.

I really like this hotel. It’s a nicely kept Chicago hotel with European flare. I was on the 22^nd floor & as you can see in my pics, it overlooks navy pier and the river.
The rooms are well appointed and clean wth quality linens and comfortable beds. The bathrooms are all ceramic tile with marble showers and a seperate tub to soak in.
The BIG BONUS is The Palm steakhouse is located in the same building. There is also a Dunkin Doughnuts & full bar in the lobby that has awesome cocktails. Plus there is the conference center, which makes it a perfect business hotel.
Its within walking distance of miracle mile/​Michigan Avenue & Trump Tower.
It has one of the best locations in the city. You can pretty much walk to all the major attractions in the city from the hotel easily.
Will def return.

We went to a tasting for our son’s upcoming wedding. All we can say was WOW! Amazingly friendly staff from the door man and our event planner — Francis, to the chefs and servers. Our private tasting was held in a glass room within the kitchen. We were served beautiful and delicious very substantial servings of 4 freshly prepared types of rolls by the pasty chef, 2 outstanding salads, and 5 different entrees. In addition, there was an example of each of the salads and entrees that were plated just as they would be for the wedding to see the presentation of each item. Our dining experience was accompanied by unlimited red and white wine pairings. To end our experience, we were presented with the most delightful individual desserts plates that even included a delectable ‘happy birthday’ chocolate since it was my birthday. We had the most attentive servers who were there working with our private table the entire time. The chef was continually checking in with us and was so very friendly to chat with about the exceptional food and amazing flavors. At the conclusion, the chef beautifully boxed up all the food items for the bride and groom to take home and enjoy. I am so excited to bring our family and friends to taste this really exceptional food for the wedding and experience the wonderful staff.

We booked this hotel through HotelTonight. We got it for $ 180/​night, taxes included. HotelTonight noted that the hotel would assign us our room at check-​in and that it was guaranteed to fit two people. Upon check-​in, we were told we could get a room with two queen beds. When we were asked if we’d rather one king and said yes, they said it’d be $ 45 extra — not necessary for a one night stay.
The lobby itself is big and popular, people were packed into most all of the bar tables snacking on bar bites and with drinks. I took a quick glance at a menu while waiting for our Über to go to our dinner reservation elsewhere, and the drinks ran from about $ 13-​$ 17, certainly not cheap by any means. While only about half a mile from Miracle Mile, the area the hotel itself is in is quite dead in terms of any restaurants for the weekend, and certainly seems to be more of a work-​week area of office buildings.
The room itself was a good size, but the beds were far from comfortable. Neither my husband or myself had a good sleep and the bed felt small, even for a queen. The room itself was also a bit stuffy. The shower was also painfully small and water shot outside of the shower when you turned it on, because their space for the actual shower was so small.
I’d meant to pick-​up a travel toothbrush at CVS but had forgotten, and asked for a toothbrush at the front desk. Unlike truly almost any other hotel, they charge you for toiletries! They have a little shop next to the front desk area to buy things like toothbrushes, shaving cream, etc. — the ultimate in cheap! They were out of toothpaste and so gave me the toothbrush for free. They told me someone could go to CVS in the morning to get me toothpaste — no thanks, I can go myself as they’d have charged me for someone to go too. On top of that, internet, gym, etc. all had fees attached to them — very stingy and the hotel itself gets expensive if you factor all of that in. It was fine for one night but I wouldn’t stay longer. Chicago has so many other hotels, that it definitely wouldn’t be worth coming back here.

Got this room on Priceline as a four star room. This is not a four star hotel. Double size beds are not four star, but maybe for the Swiss. Bathroom plaster was peeling away all over. Hair left behind in shower from previous guest always a nice surprise. Room size was as expected for Chicago. What really upset us was the fact the room wasn’t ready at 3 pm, check in time. I asked the front desk to give me an eta on when it would be ready and he responded sometime after 3. Well no $hit Sherlock. Very poor customer service as I was supposed to get a call/​text when room was ready which never happened. After our 4^th attempt at the desk we finally got our room.
Parking is way over priced even for Chicago. Down the block is a garage for $ 15 a day.

The Swissotel Chicago is your typical conference hotel with a phenomenal location. That reason alone gives the hotel four stars.
The hotel itself is sleek, modern, and functional. An example of the function is the elevators. Instead of your typical elevators that you push specific buttons for, you type in your floor, and the system points to which elevator will be first to arrive. It then takes you directly to your floor without having to do anything. Pretty nice to be non-​stop when you are heading to the 40^th floor.
Almost all rooms have a solid view. Ours faced the river as well as Navy Pier. The furniture in the room was in great shape, but the bed was quite hard. The room also had a Keurig, fridge, and safe.
We didn’t try the restaurants in the hotel, too many other places that were appealing within a few minute walk. We did try the ²⁴⁄₇ shop, and found that it had a great selection of domestic, but also European treats, such as Manner wafers (from Austria).
The concierge was disappointing. When we asked for fun local places to eat around the hotel, we were given a print off which included Rain Forest Café– not local and not at all what I had in mind. They should have more local knowledge should be able to provide better suggestions than a one page flier.
The parking for the hotel is valet and is parked in a secure garage below the hotel. The valets were quick and able to bring our car around promptly. Expect to pay about $ 50 a day for parking.
The location is really the primary reason I suggest this hotel. It is right on the river and off of the Loop. It is a two minute walk to Michigan Ave, five minute walk to the giant bean, and 15 minute walk to Navy Pier or Art Institute. Cant beat it.

We stayed here for the nearby Cubs Convention. Really can’t complain about anything. We had a nice view, and the bed was mighty comfortable. Might stay here again next Cubs Convention.

I’d give this place a solid four stars. This was another four and a half star scored on Hotwire! Checkin was a breeze, but I must say that the bellman was less than friendly. They were out of luggage carts and we’re basically told we were SOL.
The hotel was in an area within walking distance of the Navy Pier, Riverwalk, and if you get bored with the hotel restaurant here, the surrounding hotels have several restaurants and cocktail bars too. We walked down through the pedway, to the Radison (which was the next hotel over) and the restaurant and bars there were a lot more to write home about than the ones at Swissotel.
The room was cozy and clean. The bathroom was impressive too. The shower door leaked, so we had to use the extra towels to sop up the aftermath. I liked that there was a separate bath tub though. The towels were large and soft.
In the end, we accidentally left a bag of clothes and didn’t realize it until we got home five days later. The process of getting them back was a nightmare. I had to make at least 5 different calls and follow ups. So hang on to your stuff, triple check if you’re the last one out.
Now the good… There is an attached pedway, just outside of the lobby, and down the escalator. What’s a pedway? I didn’t know and it’s still quite mysterious. It’s basically underground hall ways, with stores and shops and exits leading to other surrounding hotels. The mysterious thing about it was that there were very few people down there. One bad thing was that one of the doors locked behind us on the pedway, and we had find an alternate route, so be cautious of that. Even though there are specific hours of operation for it, you can still easily enter and exit the close stops.
Overall, I’d stay again and actually wished that I’d chose to stay here for my entire trip to Chicago, instead of just staying here for the weekend.

Unobstructed views of the water from the 37^th floor. Clean and trendy. Excellent location with proximity to community and shopping centers.

Great hotel. I love the bamboo floors in the entrance way of the sleeping rooms. They have spectacular meeting space with some of the best view in the city. Fairmont can’t say that, nor can the obnoxiously huge Hyatt located in the same area.
Rooms are nicely appointed. Elevators are a bit confusing. Stay here and you’ll get what I’m saying but nothing you can’t figure out. Keurigs in the room, yay!
Palm restie is on site. Great breakfast buffet for a reasonable price.
The meeting room space on the lover level has the most amazing restrooms for large groups. This may not matter to many folks but as an event planner, this is a HUGE bonus. Their catering staff is also top notch.
This is not one of the newest or trendiest hotels in Chicago but they have a great location and the rehab they did a few years ago was excellent.

My husband and I stayed here for New Years Eve. We got a great rate, and close to our party. All the employees were friendly and willing to help although they were very busy!

The Swiss is a great place to stay. I loved the corner room which overlooked the city. The view was simply amazing. I don’t have one bad thing to say except that the leather desk chair was cracked/​peeling and the TV was a bit outdated. The city view rooms are a nice size and the décor was modern. Great service!

I booked through a 3^rd party site and after I read the reviews I took a chance and boy am I happy!!! From arrival to check-​in the experience was absolutely great. I believe her name was Latoya she was a gem she upgraded my room to a corner lake view absolutely breath taking!!! I went to the bar area to get some food and drinks and met Heather very friendly, attentive, and very knowledgeable of the area and mind you she’s from LA… All & all I’ll recommend this hotel it’s near everything and I’m sure you’ll have an enjoyable experience just as I did.

The hotel gave our room away despite the fact that we paid extra to have a specific type (king size, lake view) and called when we landed to confirm the availability of the room. Management tried to make it up with a suite room that had two twin beds. Not exactly the romance my partner and I hoped for on this trip. The hotel does not seem to be very well run, be careful that you may not get exactly what you booked. Advise against a later check in too.
The city view suite (3711) was spacious If the décor was a bit outdated. The major issue was the room’s «city view,» which meant during the Monday of our stay we could clearly see office workers in neighboring buildings and vice versa (the reason we wanted a lame view in the first place!). Also the hotel has an up charge model. Prices are listed before tax and service fees to make them seem more reasonable. Parking was $ 70 per night and the $ 18 eggs Benedict came out to $ 36 before tip.
Alright hotel but not a good value for the money, even if you are getting a good rate online. Advise against this one my friends.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Swissôtel. The location is excellent! It is walking distance from Millennium Park, downtown Chicago shopping and dining as well as other conveniences like a nearby drugstore and supermarket. There is a Palm Restaurant, a spa, fitness center and other great amenities that are ideal for those traveling for business, who have a bit of down time for leisure. My room was modern and comfortable and I had a great view of the Chicago skyline and the lakefront. With excellent service at a great price point, Swissôtel will be my hotel of choice the next time business brings me to Chicago.

Excellent location with breathtaking city views. Fluffy robes, and the pool has wonderful lake views. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The lobby bar was functional. But really if you’re here you owe it to yourself to venture out and explore the city.

I found this hotel to be, odd.
I stayed here for 3 nights. The building is beautiful but you can definitely tell where they cut expenses. I walked into my room and it had the lingering smell of cigarette. The person before me probably smoked in the room and housekeeping had not adequately ridded the scent. It was late and I was tired, so I decided to light a candle and deal with it. The bathroom was beautiful but the bed sheets were definitely noticeably cheap and scratchy. The elevator situation is pretty annoying. but I get they’re trying to be «high tech» but that sucks when you sacrifice efficiency in the process.
I then went to the ²⁴⁄₇ snack shop located by the check-​in lobby. Everything was way over priced, but that was to be expected. They had «gourmet» snacks like «all natural ginger root candy» and «specialty popcorn» along with chips and candy but no granola or protein bars for people seeking a health friendly alternative.ok. So, I grabbed an oatmeal. When I went to pay for the oatmeal I inquired about the microwave location. Turns out, they don’t have a microwave for hotel guests. (Yet they sell microwaveable foods?).
The positives? The location.
For my future trips to Chicago, I will not be staying here again.

During my last trip to Chicago, I had heard this was a great hotel chain to stay at as they were a high-​quality location to stay while in the city. After booking our hotel online, we were excited to stay for not only the photos but the company as a whole, and the location in Chicago. The location itself is very difficult to get to by car (parking is about $ 30/​day and is located underneath the hotel) — after going around in circles, we finally called the hotel in order to get directions to the actual hotel (the address does not put you at the hotel in a gps or phone-​based map).
Upon arrival, it was quite busy, however the line moved quickly. The front desk staff member was not as friendly to me as i felt the other staff were to other customers. Thankfully, the check-​in process did not take very long and we had finally been able to drop off our luggage at our hotel room. We had a great view of the riverwalk from our room on the 31^st floor. The room was clean and very nice — the bed was quite comfortable and there was a hairdryer and full tub available in the room as well. We were able to adjust the room temperature as it was too warm for us during our stay but was easy to change.
The top floor boasts 360 views from the gym/​spa area up top which are accessible to any hotel guest. While we did not utilize the gym or hot pool area, we did enjoy the view as well as the fireworks from the Navy Pier. Sadly, during our time here with all the photos and laptops that we brought with us, the hotel does not offer any wifi services. The hotel restaurant and café areas were small and very overpriced for a simple meal. There was a convenience market available for those who forgot items like toothbrushes — but they were too expensive, especially considering CVS and Walgreens were right down the road!
While we opted for the eco-​friendly option (in exchange for not having daily maid services, you get $ 8/​per room credited toward the café area for breakfast, which we received by our last day). When we went to check out, we were told we could not utilize the $ 8 credit for the eco-​friendly option as we had just checked out. Had the front desk lady told us this, we would have delayed checking out at 9a — and walk over to the breakfast bar area to pick our breakfast. This woman was quite nasty with us (and obviously did not want to be working on a Sunday morning). We were disappointed she did not let us know this beforehand. As we rushed to our flight, bellies empty, it was another mark against the hotel.
Overall, when we return to do another trip to Chicago, I will not be staying here again. Considering the overpriced rooms, no WIFI, lack of great customer service, and far distance to transit/​subway areas, I feel I would rather spend more for better service and overall a better experience!

Excellent location, fabulous views, close to river walk navy pier millennial park and an $ 8. Taxi ride from Union station. Easy check in… very clean and we paid 35 dollars for upgrade from our Priceline express deal of 105! Worth it to watch the river, navy pier and lake

I have a mixed feeling about this hotel.
Pros: Great location. Walking distance to Navy Pier, Art Institute of Chicago and Millennium Park. Great view from the room.
The bedding is very comfortable. Great insulation in the room. We didn’t hear almost anything from the walls. Perfect temperature/​humidity control in the room.
Cons: Poor amenities. I forgot tooth brush and tooth paste. They told us to go buy in their ²⁴⁄₇ opens market. I asked for spoon from room service, they said they don’t offer it. (never heard of hotels don’t offer spoons) No free wifi which is very strange for high-​end hotel. We booked for a king size bed but ended up getting 2 full sized beds. They said if we waited longer, we could get what we booked for. It was already 4:30 pm, so we didn’t want to wait anymore. They should’ve expected us coming at check-​in time, no? Everything is super expensive. They would charge $ 8 for a in-​room bottled water. Breakfast is $ 29 + tax + tip with no drink.
I’m not sure if I want to stay here again.

I was kinda worried about staying at Swissotel when I was reading such negative reviews about the hotel. But on the other hand, I kind of get it. The most basic room starts at $ 218/​night. I was actually clever and booked the hotel over Hotwire and got a 55% discount. So let me tell you the pros and cons to this hotel and you can be the judge whether you want to stay here or not.
Pros:
1) Dead smack in city center. All the major tourist attractions were no more than a 30 minute walk away. Millennium Park/​Cloud Gate/​Art Institute of Chicago/​Boat rides were a 10 minute walk, Willis Tower/​John Hancock/​Navy Pier was 20 minutes away by foot. Oak Street Beach was probably 30 minutes away. I did not take the metro at all besides going to and from the airport
2) Right next to Chicago Riverwalk. It’s simply just beautiful and calming to walk along the water during the daytime or night time.
3) There’s a huge Whole Food type supermarket in the back of the hotel called Mariano’s Fresh Market. We were able to pick up a few bottle of wines, water, and snacks for our trip.
4) I love the bathroom at Swissotel. I’m a big fan of standstill showers with a glass door separate from a bathtub (Swissotel had both) and the toilet was off to the side away from everything else.
5) The view was amazing from the hotel. I didn’t feel like upgrading to a river view, but the front desk was able to put me up on the 28^th floor and gave me a partial view of the water. The design of the hotel is quite unique. During our boat ride, they mentioned that the architect designed the hotel in a shape of a triangle so all 3 side of the hotel would get the least amount of obstructive view. Brilliant idea actually!
Cons:
1) It’s a 15 minute walk from the Blue Line Metro (Clark/​Lake stop) to go back to O’Hare airport. Not bad, if you’re not holding onto your luggages.
2) When I first walked into the hotel, there was huge smell of bleach on the bed sheets and towels in the bathroom. It was kinda weird, but we got used to the smell after the first night. Save your facial towel because they don’t provide it to you after your first day. We ended up using the bigger hair towels afterward.
3) The beds were decent but not the most comfortable beds I’ve ever stayed at. They had the mattress top cover to make it more cushiony but I kept tossing and turning on some nights.
4) Do not book any activities through the hotel. They are a total rip off. For example, they recommend Shoreline Architectural Boat Ride (Book with the Hotel and it’s $ 39.50, book with the Boat line itself by the riverwalk and it’s $ 32). I recommend the Wendella for $ 35.50.
5) Room service was really weird. Housekeeping rung our doorbell at 8:30am to asked if we wanted our room cleaned. I told them to come back later. Checkout is 12pm and we still wanted to explore and buy last minute gifts for home on our last day. Usually, if it’s your last day, they do housekeeping after you check-​out. This wasn’t the case for us. They made our entire room when we left in the morning. My friend and I wanted to take a last minute nap before we checked out since our flight was at 4pm, but we felt so guilty because the room was made for the next guest to use.
6) $ 15 wifi (for a 24 hour period) is insanely priced.
This hotel is really a 3 star rating (in terms of just the hotel alone), but I upgraded it to 4 stars because the location was just perfect for our stay.

I will start with the positive:
— We were on the 37^th floor with some nice views of the city
— The location is great but about a 10 – 15 min walk from the subway
— The hotel room was clean and staff was nice enough
That’s where the good stuff ends. Here are the cons:
— Front desk apparently has no toothpaste like every other hotel I’ve ever stayed at and directed me to their lobby shop where they had small toothpaste packets for over $ 4 (if you’re in a similar situation the good news is that there is a CVS 1.5 blocks away)
— No minibar. If you want drinks, snacks etc you have to go down to the lobby shop again (overpriced)
— No free Wi-​Fi at all and $ 15 a day for paid Wi-​Fi
— We found strands of blonde hair on the hand towels in our bathroom and you can trust that neither of us are blondes
— The fridge in bedroom was quite weak — may have been broken because it never felt cold but after leaving food in their overnight the food was cold the next morning
— Expensive in-​room dining (ordered a 1L Diet Coke and bagel with cream cheese in the morning which came to $ 27 before tip due to service/​delivery charges)
Nope, I wouldn’t recommend staying here especially given the number of hotels in the area.

For the price for three nights. It was a steal, but when I realized we had to pay for wi-​fi. I was pretty upset.
I don’t mind paying for wi-​fi, but can I at least get a reasonable price. $ 15 for one day is pretty crazy. The room was for my mother and she only needed to use the wifi to do some surfing, while she waited for me to come and pick her up.
The hotel itself is amazing. No wait to be checked in. Everyone courteous from the front door. To the reception desk and for the breakfast staff. Which was $ 35 a day o_​O. Which I still think is crazy, but at least it was buffet style. Love the décor and the European feel, but come on Swissotel. I have stayed at a Econo Lodge in the middle of Ohio that has offered free w-​ifi or at least a free bagel in the morning.
I guess I should say THANKS for the free water with fruit in the lobby. I doubt I will stay again, but good job for the first round.

This hotel is beautiful! The location is ideal for tourists or for a nice weekend getaway for the locals. Everytime I’m in Chicago I love walking to the Bean, so I got excited especially because I forgot my winter coat and the hotel is in walking distance to the Bean.
The rooms are spacious, especially for a downtown hotel. The beds are comfortable and the bathroom is amazing. Especially because I can choose to have a bubble bath or take a nice hot shower.
The front desk staff are very informative and knowledgeable about any questions you might have. Love the friendly service and the amazing room!
