I visited a lot of antiques shops in Chicago. Believe me, a lot! And I was impressed by this little gem!
there are several antiques shop in Andersonville, but this was by far my favorite. Items are organized well, the space is thought well and the prices are not crazy!
The other shops either are very cheap and nothing good or very expensive for a mid-​century piece reclaimed after buying it on CL. At Roost, you can find something in between.
The owner is extremely friendly, and the shop overall is not pretentious at all!

First visit, found the selection fascinating! Must come again when I have more time (I was between appointments in the area) as I’m sure there’s new «stuff» every day.

Not only does he get merchandise from Brown Elephant/​Salvation Army, he gets all of the candles from Marshall’s! And sells them at a 300% markup? $ 6.99 for the candle at Marshall’s, and $ 25 at the shop. Haha!!! Feel bad for those dumb enough to pay this guy just for toting candles from Tj Maxx and Marshalls to his junk shop in Andersonville. And even if you did want to pay extra for a bunch of TJ candles, good luck catching the store open during their «hours». This place is for the birds.

Have been wanting to visit, but several times I’ve been and the store hasn’t been open despite posted hours.
Unfortunately it didn’t live up to what I was hoping for. Basically your typical overpriced used merchandise with staff that feel they have more important things to do than greet customers. It is standard to at least greet someone as they walk in and ask if they need assistance. There are nicer shops and much friendlier staff in other Andersonville locations. Tried and didn’t enjoy. Won’t be back and will be sure to let all of my friends know about this experience.

Just stopped in on a whim to explore a little. Andersonville is chock full of these sorts of shops but you can never get enough. We were able to get a great deal on old file and letter holder that goes perfectly in the new apartment. The owner was really pleasant and there was an adorable dog just sitting pleasantly in a chair. Definitely will be coming back to explore more!

This is another cute shop in Andersonville. They have a lot of antique/​vintage pieces for all you antique collectors out there. The owner (I think) also has a dog, so you might see him walking around the store.

Brown elephant/​salvation merchandise= Neiman Marcus prices. Crazzzzzy,! And the owner is RUDE.

My fiancé and I have been here several times in the past few months and enjoy browsing for new items every time we stop in. Depending on your budget and what you are looking for, you can find something to meet your needs. The owners are very friendly and will take the time to chat with you and discuss what you are looking for, as well as suggest ideas. I will continue to keep coming back!

I’ve tried to go here twice, arriving shortly after their advertised «open» hours. Both times the shop was closed. Both times I waited around for 15 – 20 minutes without any luck.
Roost, it appears from your reviews that this is a recurring problem. Treat your customers’ time with respect — change your hours, and stick to them.

This has been the second time I have shown up during the advertised open hours to find the store locked up and dark, with nothing to indicate when, or whether, it might actually open. How much contempt do you have to have for your customers to be unwilling to spend 10 seconds to put a note up on Facebook to let people know that you’ll be closed so they don’t waste their time?

I love this store! It has very interesting little finds and has a very cool demeanor! I love the dog George who hangs out and sniffs you as you walk in. I love old, loved furniture and this place has it, I also get cool decorating ideas for my house as most of the décor is design on a dime!

I went into Roost a few months ago. Nice store with a lot of nice things, though freakishly expensive. I figured I’d give it another shot last week. So I checked the hours and went by. They were closed. No sign on the door. Nothing. Went back this morning at 11, when they were supposed to open. They weren’t open, so I waited with two other people for 30 minutes outside in our car. Gave up. When we called at 1PM, they told us that they had opened at noon and that sometimes they make their deliveries early and they run late. Come on. Not how you should treat your customers (or potential customers). Your prices are high and you basically show up when you feel like it. Not a good business model.

I love a good vintage kitchen/​housewares store and LOVED Roost. I live in California and am always shocked at what a good deal vintage are outside of my state. We got an amazing dish here for a bit over $ 20. Gorgeous pick with metallic overlay. It is Christmas time so there were also some great ornaments and decorations scattered around the store. I only wish I loved closer to visit more often!

But…
It’s the prices. They’re exorbitant.
I’m a barn/​rummage/​garage/​estate sale junkie, and I know what they’re buying their stuff for. I just won’t pay that kind of markup. Don’t get me wrong, I’m also lazy, and if someone has done all the legwork for me, I will absolutely, happily even, pay a higher price just so I don’t have to go to more than one place. Hell, with gas I might even save money. But this place wants too much for cool junk.
I’d shop here all the time if not for the crazy markup. But I do love to window shop. And the place has been open for ages, so obviously there are folks ether lacking in savvy or rolling in dough so, there ya go.

Very cool place, with beautiful things and friendly employees, just way too pricey. I love coming into look but rarely buy because of the prices for second hand items. It seems to be their downfall because there are several items I saw today that I really liked the last time I went in (6mo ago), that still haven’t sold.
For example there is a pretty ceramic egg holder that reminds me of the ones you can get at Anthropologie for $ 12. Roost is asking $ 24!
Lower your prices and I’ll take half your store home.

Unlike most antique shops, which comprise about 99% junk and the occasional gem, Roost is full of things that I would love to have in my theoretical home. There is a fair variety, but generally they feature a vaguely rustic, sort of New-​Englandey aesthetic. Lots of simple wood furniture, sometimes painted; metal basins, buckets, washtubs, and the like; large glass canisters and Mason jars full of corks, marbles, seashells, pieces of coral, and so on. And everything is in very good shape.
This is a great shop for dishes. There is an annex in the back called The Hutch which includes nothing but tasteful, charming vintage dishes of all kinds. Most of them are very handsome or pretty: Currier and Ives types showing country scenes, civic commemorations, floral and faunal motifs, and the like. There are plates, bowls, mugs, teacups, saucers, platters, pitchers… the whole kit and caboodle. If I were opening a country restaurant, I would go nuts in this room.
The coolest thing that I saw in the whole shop was a 1927 Webster’s New International Dictionary which really inflamed my biblio-​lust.
I believe that I was assisted by the owner Daniel, who is everything that you would want in an independent shopkeeper. Besides the fact that he owns a great store, he will take good care of you, answering questions and showing you other items that you might be interested in. He happened to mention that gift certificates are 25% off on their website right now.

I had a good amount of time to spare before meeting friends for dinner, so I decided to do a little antiquing. I was heading to Good Deal Garage and this was right on the corner. My eyes locked onto all the owl figurines and I figured I could easily find a cute knickknack here.
The shop is well laid out and the people working there are pretty friendly. They asked if I was looking for anything in particular, but I let them know I was simply browsing. I only stopped in for about 10 minutes or so and found many beautiful things I’d have loved to buy, but the price was just way too high. Ceramic owls were $ 29+. Granted, they were in spectacular shape, but I rarely spend more than $ 20 at a second-​hand store and I usually walk away with multiple items. That’s not going to happen here.
If you’re looking for a have-​to-​have item then this might be the place. They have a great selection of things like owls, serving plates and random vintage photographs. I just don’t see myself «bargain» hunting here.

Cute little French Country décor inspired shop. The inviting spill of furniture tumbling out the door and onto the sidewalk made me want to check it out. I’m glad I did, it’s packed with country-​chic items, little jars filled with buttons, giant vintage scales, shabby chic stands with plastic dinosaurs in them. Whoever does their decorating has a fabulous sense of humor.

I love Roost and here’s why:
1) It’s an obsessive collector’s dream. Ever since I was little I’ve had a habit of collecting things… first it was Hello Kitty stickers, then He-​Man cards and iron on patches (my favorite was the NASA one), then stuffed animals, then rocks (yes, rocks), then shells, then… well, hotel pens, costumes, buttons, books, hats from the 40s, you name it. Roost brings it all together in an artistic way. It’s a nicely decorated celebration of weird.
2) My entire family collects odd things, so it’s the perfect place to shop for gifts! I found an entire box of 1950s multi-​colored glass Christmas ornaments… in an ornament box from the 1950s. Aweseome! Now I just have to figure out how to convince myself not to keep it.
3) They have the *best* smelling long-​burning soy candles I’ve ever encountered. I bought shea honey, which is on the sweeter end (along with carrot cake and autumn cake), but there’s stuff that’s savory & refreshing, too (like cucumber wasabi and… dirt!). The small ones are $ 12 and the large (70 hours) are $ 26. I’m not typically a big candle buyer, but they were too good to pass up. You can even bring a container and have them fill it with whatever candle scent you’d like… they’re handmade by the owner’s friend. :)
Overall, I’d say that Roost is Anthropologie’s cooler older brother, the one who doesn’t try so hard (and minus the ridiculously expensive girly clothes).

Rolled in here after a brunch up the street. Roost had caught our eye as we were parking and we wanted to check it out.
I, personally, really welcome another home goods store on this street! Andersonville is really getting tons of nice places to shop! One wander down the street and you can mentally (or if you have deep pockets, really) redo you house!
All pillows were on sale, and Roost had some nice ones! They were knitted covers that went over the pillows themselves. I liked a couple, but alas, they would not have matched my place. Roost has some nice iron scroll work for sale. The pricing is good (much better than I have seen elsewhere) and they offer a few different styles. Yes, this is salvaged from somewhere, but the rust adds to the charm. I stopped myself from picking up a couple of pieces for gifts, and am now regretting it.
It seems like things are a bit more organized than when the other two reviewers wrote. I like the place. Not necessarily my style of décor, but they have some neat things that could blend into any home design.
