Robert S Wier, DDS

Doctor Wier is a great guy and a skillful dentist. I was relieved to find him, because I’d previously been to couple of lousy dentists and had some pretty bad experiences. All my experiences with Dr. Wier’s office have been very positive. As other commenters have pointed out, he’s not into trying to hustle patients into procedures they don’t need. Pretty close to pain-​free, too. And he has a sense of humor.

Dr. Wier is great! I started going there because I lived a block away, but have kept going even though I’ve moved to a new neighborhood. The staff is friendly and welcoming and the service is great. He also never tries to sell any cosmetic procedures or unnecessary tests like other people I’ve visited. I had my first cavity ever this year and was pretty terrified. Dr. Wier and his staff completely calmed me down and talked me through every step of the process, which was so helpful.

Needed to have a molar pulled in an emergency. They had me in the chair and taken care of within hours of my call. Personable staff and reasonable priced. Would definitely come back again…

I feel that the staff here is very friendly, caring and knows each client and their needs. For example: Before I stepped into this office it had been 4 years since I had been to the dentist and I have 10 cavities and a root canal that need to be done YIKES! Through out this process they worked with me (mentally and financially) to make sure I could get everything done in a timely manner without coming into the office afraid for my life.

This 5 star review is bittersweet. Sweet because they deserve it, bitter because they might get too busy for me to get appointments in ;)

I was going to the dental salon for a few years before coming here and loved them too but made an appointment here earlier this year in the summer when my son got knocked in the mouth by accident with a laser tag gun during a birthday party and could not get an appointment at the Dental Salon to get his tooth checked for trauma.
Dr Wier took us in right away to check and X-​ray the tooth and I was so happy with the receptionist’s (Vicky) friendly service that I scheduled cleanings for myself and my 3 kids in the fall.
My 3 & 4 year olds loved their check up and keep asking when they can go back for a check up again, and my son loved them too so I forced my husband (who hadn’t been to the dentist in years) to get his check up with them.
My husband was blown away and was very pleased by their service.
Fast forward to April 2014…
All my kids and my husband and I have had check ups and cleanings. They were super thorough! I’ve never had such a thorough check up so I then scheduled myself for a simple procedure to fix a tooth and Dr. Kalkanas has been wonderful!

I never got in to see this dentist because I wouldn’t agree to their billing policies. I went there because they are part of my p.p.o, but then they said that if the insurance company wouldn’t pay as much as they wanted, I would have a balance beyond my copay. Why bother being part of a paid provider network if you won’t accept the negotiated rate? Not only that, if the insurance company pays late this office wants to ding the customer $ 25 a month.

The hygienist was great, but I’m sorry I cannot say that about the dentist, Robert Wier. He replaced a filling on a tooth with which I had no problem except for the replacement of the filling which he claimed was leaking. But he was so careless in his drilling that he ended up crumbling my tooth. As soon as I ate something, I felt grainy stuff in my mouth; then when I felt the tooth with my tongue, it felt completely different as if half of it was gone. The following day, I experienced pain when eating a crunchy apple. The dentist also completely failed to explain the procedure prior to starting.

Just wanted to add to the love here. I found this place through neighbors and was in a semi-​urgent situation. They took care of a situation I had with efficiency, great care and good communication, at about ¹⁄₃ the cost of my former dentist for the same procedure. They threw in free x-​rays, too, since those would have exceeded their original estimate for treatment. Great staff and dentists. A real neighborhood dental center with caring, understanding people. What more could you want from people with easy access to instruments of torture? :-)

Dr. Wier, where have you been all my life?! I am so excited that after numerous terrible experiences, I have found a wonderful dentist. Dr. Wier is not only very concerned with your comfort, he is honest and down to earth. Finally, a dentist that acts like a normal person.

Going there for about a year and a half. Root canal and crown, cleanings, old filling fixed. Everything was great. Very pleasant staff. All consultations seem honest, saying some things could be put off instead of pushing for procedures. The deep cleaning hurt a bit, but that was my fault for not going to the dentist for so long (about 20 years! – no insurance for a while). Appointments have always been on time. Anyway, I would definitely recommend this place to anybody looking for a dentist.

Fantastic! I was so happy to find this dentist! Their office in Lincoln Square is a bit old fashioned, but way better than the «fancy, trendy» place I tried last year when I first moved to Chicago. Dr. Rob is very calm, confident, and keeps you informed while he’s working on you. I had such a pleasant, pain-​free, and stress-​free experience. The entire staff is friendly and professional, too.

I’m not the best at going to the dentist every 6 months, in fact when I went last week it turns out it had been 18 months since I last visit… oops! I like that they didn’t make me feel bad about not coming every 6 months.
I appreciate that they have nighttime hours because those of us with jobs outside of the city have a hard time making it within the 8 – 4 office hour range of other dentists. The receptionist is fantastic and friendly. I had some pain and needed an appointment last week. They were booked up till early Jan so I made an appointment… the next day they had an opening and she called to see if I wanted that spot… that’s some excellent customer service!
The hygienist is great as well. She doesn’t cause any pain while cleaning and does a thorough job. She does whatever she can to minimize any pain — like numbing the area before cleaning if you have sensitive teeth/​gums. Also she answered all my questions and didn’t get that annoyed sound in her voice that I was asking a million things. Dr. Wier is also great. He is gentle and knowledgeable. You can tell they really care about their patients.
I have nothing negative to say about them and would highly recommend them.

My review is waaaaaaay overdue. I’ve been going to Dr. Rob Jr for many years now, and he’s wonderful. Personable, engaging, and very attentive.
Vicky, the receptionist/​office manager is incredible. She is so personable that even over the phone you can tell she’s smiling~ she’s absolutely wonderful. Not only that, she’s efficient, remembers your voice/​name/​face and makes an effort to always be kind and inviting. She’s a great asset.
I always leave their office pleased. I’ve discovered since going there, that I ENJOY getting my teeth cleaned. I haven’t felt that way in the past. They are just that good at what they do:)
Their hygienist, Diana, is the reason for this. Not only does she thoroughly clean your teeth and inspect your mouth with care, she does so without causing pain. She stops regularly to check in with your comfort level, and she is incredibly knowledgeable. I always leave the office with a new morsel of information.
I really can’t rave enough~ I’m so glad I found them.

I’m pretty happy with Dr. Wier and his team. Everyone there is so friendly, knowledgeable, and thorough. They really try to be involved with their patients, going out of their way to ask about daily life, which I find helps take my mind off of the anxiety of being at the dentist’s office. Their scheduling is a little tricky (closed on Wednesdays), but they do whatever they can to squeeze people in.
*Bonus: If you’re like me and love reading magazines in waiting rooms, they’ve got a massive selection.

After seeing a very negative review, I’m compelled to update mine. I do see Dr. Wier, the son. Last year, I needed to have quite a bit of dental work done. I couldn’t be happier. Not only was all the work well done but, when my insurance did not cover the gum treatment, I was given an incredibly deep discount.
Another plus — no thanks to a crazy work situation, I had to reschedule two appointments, both at the last minute (within 90 minutes). The office was more than accomodating and didn’t charge me a cent.

I don’t want to say too many bad things, so I’ll leave it at this: It was very nice of Dr Wier to take $ 75 off of my bill for all the trouble that I incurred. (Trouble, basically, being 5 appts to take care of a mere 3 fillings. 2 appts to do the fillings, and 3 trips to fix mistakes.)
That being said, all the reviews on this site appear to be about Dr Rob Wier Sr. (who is no longer in the business) and none about Dr Rob Wier Jr (who is currently running the practice). Cant find a place to review Dr Rob, Jr. :(
So, yeap, I got in the chair thinking I was sitting with the aforementioned Dr Rob, and instead I got the latter. A very nice man, no doubt, but 5 trips later I saw my error.
Am again on the market for my «local denist.»

Dr. Rob is a great dentist. The whole office is pleasant and helpful and very caring. I had a terrible experience at my last dentist and went to Dr. Rob to get a small cavity filled. I told him I was nervous and he was extra careful and explained everything to me. Not like it was my first time getting a cavity filled, but my past experience had left me a bit shaken up. Definitely the only place I will go from now on.

I hadn’t gone to the dentist in: mumbledymumble: years, due to financial difficulties and a burgeoning dentist phobia. When a dental emergency forced me to bite the proverbial bullet and schedule an appointment with a DDS, Dr. Weir’s positive reviews on Unilocal convinced me to make the call. And boy, am I glad I did!
Everyone at the office was great, from the lady at the front desk to the hygienist to Dr. Weir himself. They fit me in for a consultation the same day I called, and scheduled my procedure for the first available date that worked for me. Although the procedure turned out to be a bit complicated and scary (at least for me), the whole team was really fantastic – sympathetic, funny, and kind. Dr. Weir even called to check up on me at home that night.
From here on out, Dr. Weir is officially our family dentist. I couldn’t be more pleased! Thanks, fellow Unilocalers!

OK, so I am first to say I am sure I am the exact same as the other 99.999% of the world that is not a huge fan of dentists. I used to go to another dentist, and had not been for about two years, a little mix of not liking my old dentist and not having insurance. I found Wier Dental and decided to give it a try since my wisdom teeth were coming in and were getting painful.
I called and they got me an appointment after my work schedule which is nice, that I did not have to take off of work to go. While waiting for my appointment date to come, my wisdom teeth starting painfully killing me, so I called and asked if they had anything earlier or if they could recommend someone else to look at my teeth.
This is a major part why I gave them a five, this and all the other awesome things they do. They opened room for me to come in later than they usually take appointments, not this would not surprise me if I had been a long time client, but they had never seen me before.
The consult was painless, and Dr. Weir was pleasant, laid back and made me feel completely comfortable.
I went back for a cleaning, and it was amazing, well as amazing as having someone place their hands in your mouth and poke around can be. The lady that cleaned my teeth, the hygienist I believe is the correct term, was compassionate and cared, that A.) I did not want to be there, and B.) was uncomfortable with my wisdom teeth still in my mouth and still some what in pain. She took her time and made sure to check if I needed a break or anything.
They explained everything to me as thorough as they could, and if I had a question even if it was the dumbest thing they have ever heard, they answered it and never rushed anything.
I am not saying I enjoy going to the dentist to get my teeth cleaned or to have work done, but with the stress free and completely down to earth staff and killer environment I don’t mind spending some time there.
Highly recommend this place, if you didn’t get that from the first part of this review…

I have been going to Dr. Weir for 2 years now, and he is very good. The hygienist is also great, she is very thorough, and takes time to make sure you understand everything that she does during the normal cleaning/​check-​up. The office staff are friendly as well. Convenient location, right in the middle of Lincoln Square.
